Customers regard the Mountable Solar Kit for Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Video Doorbell 3 Plus favorably for its ability to extend battery life and its ease of installation. However, some users experienced issues with the charging functionality, particularly in areas without direct sunlight, and reported compatibility problems with certain Ring doorbell models. The product's effectiveness appears to be highly dependent on sufficient sunlight exposure. Improvements in charging reliability and compatibility would enhance customer satisfaction.

Do not buy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do not recommend this product. While it is easy to install, it doesn’t appear to charge the doorbell at all. I live in Florida. Lots of sun here. At least 4 hours a day of direct sun. And yet the doorbell kept losing charge every day—faster than before I installed the product. Even after I fully charged the doorbell battery and left the solar charger in full sun for 10 hours. I have spoken with the Ring help desk twice to get answers. They tried, but couldn’t help me.

Posted .Hello MJNN,
Thank you for taking a moment to leave your review of the Ring Solar Panel. We know how important it is to have peace of mind when it comes to your home security, and having an unresponsive device can be concerning. Please know that we are here to assist and are confident that we can find you a resolution in a timely manner.
After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Solar Panel is not fully charging your Ring Video Doorbell 3. Ring recommends at least three to four hours of direct sunlight, depending on your usage. Make sure there are no obstructions that could cast a shadow on your solar power device, such as an extended roof, tree branches, or bushes. If your installation area is frequently very cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives.
The solar panel requires direct sunlight. Filtered/indirect sunlight through the clouds will not provide a charge to your doorbell/camera. Here is a helpful article that explains this in more detail: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360061517732-Solar-Charger-and-Solar-Panel-for-Ring-Doorbells-troubleshooting.

It does not work.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It does not work as I had hoped it would. My ring is on my back patio with direct sun and it does nothing. Very disappointing and waste of money.

Posted .Hi Dwatkin87.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
We understand the importance of your Ring Video Doorbell 3 or 3 Plus receiving a charge from your Ring Solar Charger so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Video Doorbell 3 or 3 Plus, is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home. Rest assured, we are here today to provide you with some information in order to ensure you get the most out of your solar charger! We are confident we can find a solution that works well for you and your home’s environment.
It sounds like your Ring Solar Charger for your Ring Video Doorbell 3 or 3 Plus is not working as expected. The Ring Solar Charger requires several hours of direct sunlight every day to recharge your device. The ability to recharge varies based on device settings, motion notifications, and sun exposure in the area of placement—not ideal for porches. When the Ring battery is over 90% charged, it will no longer take a new charge. Below 90%, it will accept a new charge. If a battery is 89% charged or below, it will charge from the solar panel. The Device Health page for your Ring Video Doorbell will continue to show that the power source is a battery. Visit our support center for more details on how the Ring Solar Charger works.
