Perfect Work From Home Coffee Maker

1.5 big travel cups of coffee is my daily habit- usually prepared in a one-cup pod machine from a well known maker of such things. With that set up, I generally make 2 cups of coffee and half of one gets wasted as I just never get around to finishing it. WIth this Mr. Coffee 5-cup coffee maker, though, the small pot turns out to be just about perfectly 1.5 of my travel mug's capacity, it keeps the pot hot and if I have company, I can now make more than one cup at a time! I haven't used the timer yet, but look forward soon to waking up to the smell of already-brewed coffee just waiting to greet me in the morning!

    Good coffee maker

This Mr Coffee 5 cup coffee maker is a good little machine. It's pretty basic, fill the reservoir with water, put a filter and coffee in the basket, and push the Brew Now button. You'll have fresh coffee in a short time. The whole top lifts and the basket and water reservoir are underneath, rather than two separate lids. It's not quiet, but not noisier than the usual gurgling that indicates it is brewing coffee. It doesn't have the option to pause and get a cup, but I don't use that anyway. It does have a Brew Later button. If the time is set (manually) on the clock, you can set a timer for brewing at another time, an essential feature for me. It also has automatic shut off, which is a very helpful feature- most coffee makers do, but some of the inexpensive ones still don't, and this has that safety feature. I also used it for hot water for tea, leaving the basket empty, and it works well for that. It's small, saving space on the counter, and black to match other appliances. Overall, it functions well and exceeded my expectations.

    1. The basket is too shallow for normal filters, forcing you to shove the arm over the filter every time you make coffee. 2. Turns off randomly. Sometimes halfway through brewing.

I just unboxed it to replace a similar machine that lasted a long time, and this thing reeks of plastic. I ran 10 water cycles hoping it was priming the heating element, and it still has a sour chemical smell like a storage tote or shower curtain. There is no way this thing is food safe.

Bought this for a friend as a gift. But, it came broken. Didn't want to open the box and just notified my friend to check whether it works or not. When they opened it, they found the cup with crack. Already, the return period was gone. Such a mess. DON'T buy this one.

I travel frequently for work, and hotel room coffee is foul. I like to take a small coffee maker with me so I can start my mornings with a decent cup or two. This little coffee maker is perfect. It's very light and compact. Unlike my last pot, this one has a brew timer so I can wake up to fresh coffee, and it's pretty quiet. It has a two hour shut off timer as well so no worrying about whether I remembered to turn off the pot. This is a great little coffee maker.

The coffeemaker is a nice size for someone that drinks an occasional cup of coffee. It is fast and having the delay set is a nice feature for getting up in the morning to your coffee already brewed. The water reservoir is very nice to pour into but is definitely made for a right-handed person.(I am left)

5 Cup is 25 oz. NOT 40 oz.

So let me start by saying that this wasn't at all what I was expecting. This is my very first coffeepot, and I got this because it was advertised as a 5 cup coffeepot. Being in the US, I assumed that this meant it was 40 ounces (since 1 cup = 8 ounces). I totally missed the reference to this being a "mini brew." I was shocked and dismayed when it arrived and it was only 25 ounces. Rather than being the great big brewer that I was expecting, it was a rather small and simple thing. I did some research, and apparently the "cup" is not an international standard of measure. Apparently in Europe, a cup can be anywhere from 4-6 ounces. After adjusting my expectations accordingly, I tried to make use of this coffeepot anyway. I have to say that I am largely happy with it. First, before you first use it, WASH IT. My unit came reeking of very strong chemical odors. I thoroughly washed the carafe and then ran it through a brew cycle with nothing but water to clean it out. The machine doesn't appear to come with any directions, but it's simple enough to operate. Fill the carafe with 25 ounces of water, lift the lid of the machine and poor the water into the reservoir at the back of the machine (there's a gauge to see if you're accidentally overfilling it), add a coffee filter to the basin near the front of the machine, and add your ground coffee. At this point, you can just hit the brew button and about 6 minutes later you will have a pot of coffee. The machine also has a clock built into it, and it supports a delay brew function if you want to set it up but actually have it run at a later time. If you want to use this to make hot tea, follow all of the same steps for coffee but omit the coffee filter and ground coffee and place a tea bag in the carafe. As far as maintenance goes, running it through a cycle with a dilute vinegar solution in place of water should remove any scale (nasty while film) that develops. Then you just need to run a cycle or two of plain water to remove the vinegar odor. This wasn't at all what I was expecting, but I think that I'll be happy with this nonetheless. I appreciate its simplicity, and it makes a fine cuppa.

I went against my better judgment and purchased this coffee maker. This is the cheapest thing I have ever bought. When i opened the box, the coffee maker had a crack by the water reservoir. Cheaply built garbage!

I needed a small coffee maker for my desk, and this is perfect. No frills, easy to setup. Works perfect, brews fast. Minimal features, but that is what you are looking for if you are buying a small coffee maker like this.

Nothing fancy--just a reliable coffee maker

After many years of satisfaction with a 4-cup Mr. Coffee maker, I decided to get one of those fancy machines that brews all kinds of specialty coffees, one cup at a time. I have enjoyed that fancy machine, but its footprint was pretty huge, taking up a lot of counter space. So I decided to try switching back to this Mr. Coffee 5-Cup Coffeemaker. I haven't been disappointed--it is still the solid Mr. Coffee product I've known over the years. It is easy to fill the water tank to exactly the right level because there are clear markings on the right side of tank. You can pull the carafe out in the middle of brewing if you want because the drip automatically stops--pretty much a standard feature on coffee machines. And you can program it to brew at a specified time. As a former 4-cup Mr. Coffee user, I wondered how much different this 5-cup model would be. Well, the 4-cup model brews 24 ounces of coffee and this 5-cup model, 25 ounces. So, essentially the same. In my experience, Europeans consider anywhere between 4 and 6 ounces to be a "cup" of coffee, while Americans want cups or mugs of coffee to be 8 or more ounces. My daily "cup" of Joe therefore requires 2-3 of these Mr. Coffee 5-ounce cups. Taste-wise, coffee made with the Mr. Coffee machine is fine, either with a paper or metal filter (sold separately). But not quite as good as with my larger, fancy machine. Not sure why that would be, and maybe it is just my imagination. But what I really miss about the big machine is that you can fill its large tank with water, which will last me for several days, making one cup per day. With Mr. Coffee, whatever water you will put in the tank will be used for that pot, so you have to add water each time, even if you drink a cup a day like I do. In the end, I think I am going to switch back to my larger machine for convenience when I am making a cup only for myself. It is so easy to just push a button for a single cup of any size, and no worries about filling the water tank every time I brew. True, the large machine does not have a warming plate like the Mr. Coffee machine, but that's hardly an issue when making one cup. I will keep the Mr. Coffee machine stored away though, for when I have a friend over, because it can make more than a cup at a time.

Takes up little room on my kitchen counter, brews a full pot very quickly, and easy to cleanup/maintain. My only complaint is no filters are included by the manufacturer to get you going. If they threw in 5 or 10 filters it would cost them next to nothing so they kinda cheaped out on that. But for $20 you can't go wrong with this coffee maker.
