I was looking for a gaming laptop that I could use as an actual travel/work/leisure laptop that could do both work and gaming and this truly exceeded my expectations. The case is a beautiful, aluminum and thin and light compared to the clearly cheaper Omen and bulky and still plastic Alienware equivalents. It is new enough to Best Buy that it wasn't on the shelves in the config I got, which has the 8th Gen I7-8750H and upgraded nVidia geforce 1060 with 6gb rather than the budget 3gb version. Between the new processor and the vidio card, I've been running games like Overwatch and PUBG on high with a standard 60fps and no lag.
When it's running a game it does have a noticeable fan noise, but, honestly, when compared to my Alienware R4 running a 1070, it's practically silent in comparison.
The built in Steelseries RGB keyboard is absolutely beautiful and fully customizable and squeezing in the number pad is always a plus for me in a 15.4 form factor.
The screen is standard 1080p., which is fine for the size, but you can project on a 4k monitor for better rez, but it does affect framerate if you want to play above low settings.
For everyday use the most amazing aspect is the battery life. I left the power cord at home one day, and just had the computer. Even with the keyboard in 'disco mode' lighting which got a few laughs from colleagues, and a couple of breaks gaming, the battery lasted a 9 hour day no problems.
If I were to have a bit of gripe, it would be the touchpad. You do have to play with the settings a bit to get it to emulate all of the standard functions of a Synaptics touchpad in Windows 10. It still doesn't quite do what I expect on occasion, but more tinkering should fix that, particularly with sensitivity.
You'll likely want to upgrade the SSD's in the system and it takes one M.2. and one 3.5 form factor hard drive, so it is upgradeable there. It comes with a standard 16gb installed, but I believe you can upgrade to 32gb.
No optical drive, no touch screen, but 3 USB 3 ports, one USB 2.0 and a thunderbolt/usb-c port. The camera is not Windows Hello for login for those who have an Alienware, and the speakers aren't super great, but fine. An HDMI and minidisplayport are available for multiple monitors.
Also, the base of the computer has a felt surface, which makes a difference for when using as a lap laptop. I did notice that there was some heat up in the upper right side during use, but not scorching like an HP Spectre, which I have two of.
Overall, for the size, the processor, the video card and performance I would say get them while you can. This is a great upgrade from the previous version and is better for battery life and performance than any of the other 15.4 screen gaming configs available in store in Best Buy.

Great thin and light laptop

Really great laptop. It is a thin and light new generation laptop. It comes with a clear 1080 display although it is surrounded by a thick bezel that I am willing to forgive because it is thanks to that that the laptop is wide enough to have a numerical pad in the keyboard, which I love and is a must-have for me.
Some other great stuff: the 0.7 thickness around the diameter of a penny; it comes with a gtx 1060 that allows you to play every new game so far (although not always with the best graphics); great battery life (so far); and an amazing keyboard and trackpad.
A few drawbacks. It comes with a preinstalled norton antivirus while bestbuy already gives away a free antivirus with the purchase (not really a drawback but kinda weird). The MSI laptops always have this weird layout, normally the windows and the function keys are swapped but you can swapped them back with the bios settings although they will still have the text of the other key. Other weird keys in the keyboard layout can easily be fixed with the help of software (like autohotkey). And although it boots up in the blink of an eye it sometimes stutters while opening a program for the first time.
It is also important to clarify that part of the prices comes from the "thin and light" part of the laptop; you can get a laptop with similar specs cheaper if you are whiling to have something thicker and heavier. But if you are looking for something thin, then this is a good choice.
The flaws are small and/or fixable, so even with them I've been having a great experience and I can recommend this if you want a strong thin and light laptop.

I was due for an upgrade since my earlier notebook was about 7-8 years old. Its graphics card was GTX 560M. So yeah pretty old. I needed a notebook which could handle bigger computing tasks. This laptop caught my eye in terms of its design. I had this image of thick heavy gaming laptops with red accents all around which was not my need. This laptop is everything but that. Sleek and lightweight.
The RGB customization for each key is certainly an added bonus. The keyboard has good key travel and is comfortable to type on. The speakers could've been in a better position near the top but they sound pretty decent.
This notebook certainly is adept at handling various tasks thrown at it. The 16 GB ram does its job pretty well.
The port selection is a goof. Memory card reader is a good touch and a much needed one too.
The heat dissipation is pretty well handled. It does not get too hot. It handles Autodesk Inventor(C) and light to medium Ansys analysis work smoothly.
All in all this notebook is worth every penny.

This laptop checked quite a lot of boxes for me. It comes in a slim form factor. It is built of quality materials (yes there is some flex but it is a metal chassis that is good quality), it contains above average components, it has thunderbolt ports, it has an excellent keyboard, it's light, it's fast, it's quiet. Overall this thing is the nicest computer I've ever owned. I have owned several computers and laptops and have even built my own rigs. This far surpasses everything I have used. Overwatch runs at max settings at 70 FPS constantly. It doesn't get hot. The only thing I feel that could be improved is that the screen should have a 120 hz refresh rate (has 60 hz). If that's a deal breaker then you'll have to spend a few hundred more for the GS65 but I don't really see why you would.

I am a college student majoring in computer science. I was doing my research on multiple different laptops and trying to find the best fit my needs. I mainly wanted a laptop for School purpose, on the go coding and light gaming here and there.
This GS63 Laptop has great spec that offer me the power to do everything i want to do plus little more. 8th gen CPU and 1060 6GB GPU are powerful enough to give me the edge at running all games i play, multitask and have good enough battery to last me good 4 to 5 hours. For a gaming laptop at this spec, i really like the battery life!
Pro:
- Nice and thin
- Light for 15 inch
- Customization of keyboard lights
- Keyboard keys and slick and easy to type
- Ethernet Cable port is a big PLUS from me!
- Cooler boost works really well! Love it!
Cons:
- The design on the front seems little cheap
- finger will smudge the laptop covers
- Mouse tracking pad isn't the best for normal usage (scrolling issues with few apps)
- It does tend to get hot quickly even on normal use (eg, watching youtube or typing on word or browsing the internet)
I love the Nahimic Audio MSI offers and it is wonderful software! The audio is slightly less louder than most laptops but it does offer good sound quality.
This laptop has a nice easy detachable back to do any upgrades to RAM or the storage.

This laptop is excellent in all regards save the life expectancy of the battery while playing console quality games. To fix this I just plugged in the laptop while playing.
While researching, composing notes, and streaming video the battery appears to last decently long considering how lightweight this laptop is (depending on workload 3-5 hours). This lightweight frame may give off the slightest sense of flexibility so I prefer to carry it with either two hands or one hand in the middle to distrbute the weight with another on top for balance.
The games that I have to base this review on are Madden 19 for PC (does not require internet access once initially downloaded onto the hardrive), and Forza 7 and Forza Horizon 3 for Xbox (yes you can play xbox compatible games on this platform with connection to an internet source).
When playing Madden 19 on the standard settings the stick controls felt delayed and sloppy. Once the graphics for the game were slightly reduced, however, the stick feel returned back to console like levels. The big difference for this game was that the interface reacts much more quickly than on Xbox One. Where Madden 19 on Xbox One from time to time feels as though the images are having a hard time catching up to the command when moving from different screens. This laptop’s transitions are much more fluid and quick, subjectively speaking.
When playing both Forza games I immediately reduced the graphics due to my experience with Madden 19, which could have been a fluke. I have never actually tried Madden on a higher graphics setting again. Forza streamed wonderfully. The graphics performed as well as I set my desired levels to, low, but the game ran perfectly. Forza is a game that relies on split second reactions and inputs from the controller, and the ability to convey that action into the car on the screen doing what you ask. In this regard, again, the laptop succeeded exceedingly well. I would venture again to say it had a console like feel to the fluidity of the courses and open world around the car. The laptop’s responsiveness to the controller was also very similar to a console making driving a breeze even with the assists turned off and steering in simulation. To play games you just hook up an xbox controller to a usb port, wired or wireless, with an adapter.
This laptop is an excellent buy and is well worth the money. The gaming capabilities, coming from someone who mainly plays on a console, are well worth the money as well. This laptop is also helping me work through a full courseload in college, and all the studying that brings with it. This laptop can literally do everything you need it to.
P.S.
The keyboard lights up. And you can change the colors of each individual key and make color effects across the board like transitions, waves, and anything you can come up with, through access of the steel series app.

Just your average PC gamer that needed laptop for traveling and playing games on the go.
MSI packed the laptop and accessories pretty nicely in the box. Very thin and light for a laptop with amazing specs.I was able to throw it in my backpack and carry it around with ease.
SSD makes the laptop boot with 5 seconds.
The main games Ive played so far on this laptop have been WoW, Overwatch, and some VR titles.
Its been able to max everything out perfectly fine. Able to keep a constant 60fps
The fans will get loud when gaming but if you wear headphones you wont hear them at all. Around 2 hours into gaming the keyboard will get slightly warm but nothing that would make you want to stop.
I have a Windows HP mixed reality headset and it was slightly upsetting that the usb port on the hdmi side is 2.0 so I couldnt power my VR headset. I had to get an extender to make it reach the other side. It ran Beat Saber and other VR titles perfectly fine tho. Syncing with bluetooth with the controllers was super fast
Upon first opening the laptop the keyboard has very nice RGB lighting which can be customized in the steel series engine app. Very easy to use and the keyboard felt nice on the fingers. I love how when you press the FN key it lights up the keys with function actions.
One of the small quirks I didn't like about it was the touchpad placement and how theres no windows key on the left side of the keyboard. The right shift key is also half its size to keep the arrow keys in which may bother some people. The touchpad is very hard to press and didnt like it at all.
The only other small quirk I didn't like was how the led indicators for your laptop charging and num lock status was on the bottom rather the on the top but thats very minor and just me being picky.
For a gaming laptop I could squeeze on average about 5 hours of battery life just watching youtube videos or anime on VLC.
Speakers are above average but if your in a busy/crowded room you may have trouble hearing them.
Over all tho only a few small things bothered me but its nothing to take a star off for it. Everyone has different things that they like or dislike but for the price to performance ratio I would definitely recommend this to anyone that needs a gaming laptop on the go.

Was looking for a good all around computer to buy for the next few years. I need it for work, post production editing, and even for games to relax and have fun. Because of my need for work and post production, I needed a good screen, plenty of ports, and for it to be portable and sturdy. Needless to say, I was looking at some pretty expensive things to have all the functionality I was hoping to get, and often times I was making a lot of compromises between what I really needed and the price I was looking to get it at. A lot of the laptops nowadays seem to cut corners, and you often find yourself longing wishing to combine laptops together.
I eventually ended up debating between the XPS 15 and the GS65, and I decided to go into Best Buy to check the two out in person before buying them. And then all of of a sudden this beauty was lying next to the GS65 and it literally had almost everything I could ask for. The screen isn't as good as the other two, but its good enough for content creation, it has a stupid amount of ports including thunderbolt and an SD card, i7 8750h, gtx1060 6gb (runs everything I play at 60fps minimum on utlra). good build quality (and pretty conservative style for a gaming laptop. I do miss the the gold flair of the GS65 though), a 256 SSD and a 1TB HDD (which blows away a lot of the competition). OH and a number pad, because for some reason those things are disappearing as well.
Keyboard has programmable lighting as well, which is super useful if you want to highlight specific hotkeys for programs. It definitely speeds up your work by having some of those lit. It also is just a eye candy at time too.
This thing is a processing monster too. It can handle most stuff you can reasonably throw at a laptop, and perhaps even some desktop related tasks. Though thermals will sometimes be a concern? With all that power comes the cost that this thing will run relatively warm. Everything I can find says that its within tolerance, but can't help but feel that its fast performance will ultimate degrade itself. Only time will tell, but hopefully by the time that happens, you'll be ready to move on.
Can't really think of a bad thing about this machine, and honestly for all the stuff you get for the price you get it, its insane. This is a steal.

I researched a lot of computers from Dell, HP and Razor before ending up getting this laptop. Does everything I need it to do for school plus more.
Pros:
*The build of this computer is great , it is a metal chassis which coming from a Macbook air I'm not losing any quality.
* Has a customizable RGB keyboard which is really cool
*Its very powerful. I am a student going for engineering and it can run everything so far flawlessly.Like Matlab and solidworks.( I will say so far I have only rendered small assembles on it so I don't know the full extent of what it can handle yet.)
*Awesome at gaming , its been 8 years since owning a gaming capable computer and it runs circles around my PlayStation 4.
*Upgradeable ram to 32 gb and storage unlike some computers where everything is soldered on
*Has two HDD/SSD , this helps alot when you want games on one and work on the other
*Thinner than I thought it was going to be for a 15 inch gaming capable laptop. Its slightly thicker than a macbook pro
Cons:
*It does get hot when you game for long periods of time, Im looking into under clocking the CPU and GPU so they don't get quite as hot . Also investing in a better cooling pad to help for the long game sessions
*Track pad is stiff and hard to right click at times
*This con is more of a windows problem but since it happened to this computer I am including it. It took about 2 days of trouble shooting to get windows to update to the newest patch. It just kept failing to install it.
*the 1 tb HDD is way to slow to my liking so it will be getting a upgrade to a SSD in the near future.
*I do not like the location of where the power plug is. It is towards the middle instead of the back of the PC , so the cable does sometime get in the way
*Does come with bloatware that needs to come off
I got the computer on sell and with the student promotion discount and I have not regretted buying it at all. For the money and what your getting in this computer I would recommend this to anyone.

I was a few days out from a trip across the country when my 2012 Macbook finally kicked the can. So i started researching and finding things in my price range, with quality specs and upgradability. I was surprised that Best Buy had some nice MSI and ASUS laptops on the show floor. After a day or two of more research, i settled on this MSI GS63 STEALTH 010. Big Screen, thin design, plenty of CPU power, upgradeable RAM, and a GTX 1060 with 6GB of DRAM. This was quite a jump from what i was used to. Plus no waiting for shipping, and Best Buy's helpful techs got me in and out with my new laptop in no time.
Now i do not really game a ton on PC's, so i was skeptical of looking at gaming laptops. I do a lot of 3D modeling and design for 3D Printing, and other hobby projects. More work station aimed laptops seemed bland, big, or just out of my price range for the tasks i required. Don't have use for a 2:1 either. But this MSI impressed me with affordability and nice specs. Comparing it to newer ASUS gaming models, i didn't need a GTX 1070 or 1080 really, so why spend another $500 for something i won't fully utilize? And so far using it, it powers through things like Fusion 360, Simplify3d, Inventor, Sketchup. I'm quite pleased. Especially since Windows literally boots in >5 seconds, compared to my 5 min wait for OSX...It's nice stepping into the current realm of computing power! Lots of great I/O, and it has a LAN PORT! For crying out loud i don't want 1800 dongles just to use my laptop. This thing's got HDMI ,Thunderbolt 3, Mini Display Port, 3 USB 3.0, SD card reader (great for transferring files to my 3D printer!)
Now i must talk of some of the things i wasn't too impressed with. First off, i like illuminated keyboards, but the darn stock program was this RGB rainbow of a circus that i had to immediately turn to a solid red. This was after multiple updates to the keyboard control software until it took. Minimal problem, but i don't need the bells and whistles. Also the thing is a fingerprint MAGNET! It looks great with with brushed metal like finish, but 2 mins into having it i could see all the finger prints, palm marks, and dust all over it. I'm considering getting a skin or hard shell case for it. There's a average amount of bloatware, and recently after a MSI update installed, i can here my fans rev up quite a lot, with task manager not really showing anything unusual happening. That's another thing, it plays Fortnite and Minecraft like I've never played it before, but man, the fans get LOUD. Speakers are decent for background music play but can get tinny, so i will definitely use headphones for gaming and movie watching. Keyboard feels good, although the chassis above it where the speakers are is quite flexible.
Overall 4/5 stars. Affordable, powerful, not bad on the eyes, and has some expand-ability in it's future. I would recommend for those casual gamers, hobbyists looking to step up from an older machine, students who need something to do school work while having some power to game on the side.

I recently purchased the MSI GS63 Stealth (intel 8th generation), after having my 7th generation experienced hard drive failure. Instead of bestbuy sending it out, they gave me credit for it and I purchased this newer, 8th gen version.
I loved my 7th gen, everything about it just felt great, a perfect size, ran any games that I wanted at max settings, and was extremely portable. If anything the 8th generation version has only improved.
So far, unlike with the previous models, I havent had any direct hardware issues, so that's definitely a plus. I had many hardware failures with the previous gen, internal mic broken/wireless card. Then total ram failure. Then hardware failure. Each time Best Buy replaced the computer for free and I still picked up the same 7th gen MSI GS63.
Seems like I shouldve just switched and thats what people told me, but this computer is exactly what I want in a computer. To me, bulky laptops defeat the purpose, if I had to sit with a 10 pound computer on my lap or carry around I might as well get a desktop. This is the perfect size. very comfortable just keeping on your lap or stomach. The keyboard feels great and looks great too, it's not one big sheet of keys nor does it have any of those annoying bumps. The track pad is also nice texture. It can play any game I want, from an emulation that's high in CPU usage to any of the labor intesive AAA games on max. The entire suite of operations from MSI is fantastic and makes it easy for anyone to learn how to overclock or manage other settings safely. This is all about the previous model as well, but it is definitely the same with the 8th gen processor model here.
Here's a small list of things that I feel have become even better since its last iteration:
-Boot up is even faster
-New shell is less prone to finger prints
-Higher quality display (Colors feel deeper and richer)
-More customizable keyboard and general settings (Quality of life things are often overlooked)
-Slightly smoother
-Better at multitasking for everyday use
-The cooling system (fans) are insane now
-Batterly life feels much much better, feels like hours more of streaming, games, and general use.
These feel like small adjustment that make a computer I enjoyed a great deal, even better.
I'm hesitent to say 5 stars only because of past hardware issues that I have had with MSI and would say that even though everything was always replaced, it was still annoying and tedious. Here's hoping to no issues.

This gaming laptop is a beast! The specs are among the best with Nvidia GTX 1060 GPU, 16GB ram with intel core i7 8th gen, 1TB HDD, 256GB SSD. With all these specs the laptop weighs just 1.9-2 kgs, which is fantastic! The laptop isn’t too bulky too in terms or it’s dimension. Makes it compact for a 15 inch laptop and easy to carry. Graphic intensive run very smoothly. I got this to train deep learning models and I’ve have read great reviews about MSI GS63 ability to train with great speeds. I would definitely recommend to go with this one if you can stretch your budget a bit. It won’t disappoint!

Bought this laptop because I wanted I high powered laptop for Software Development and content creation, but did not want to spend a mint to get that power. So far this laptop has been a pleasure to use so far. I have mostly used it for editing and building in VS and the 8th gen i7 handles running multiple processes with ease. With the Nvidia 6GB grafics card and 3 different display port options (mini display, HDMI, USB-C), this thing easily runs both of my external monitors and laptop panel with no fuss (while playing Fortnite on the highest settings). The boot time is crazy fast with the SSD, no more hitting the power button and walking away to grab a coffee.
The big selling point for me is the portability. I looked at the Alienware and Dell G7 and both were much heavier and bulkier then this MSI GS63. The build quality is good with it's aluminum case, but can feel a bit flimsy because of how thin it is compared to it's competitors. The keyboard is also very nice. Just the right amount of spacing between the keys, full number pad, and each key is RGB programmable.
Overall I have been very happy with this laptop. For me the gaming aspect is a bonus when needing to take a work break. Great all around.

I have recently enrolled in a college and i decided to go for this laptop (16 GB RAM) version and i am very very happy with my choice. I am from Computer Science major and this notebook is excellent for my academic projects.
It comes with the 8th gen Intel i7-8750H, 256 M.2 SSD Storage, and an 1TB SATA HDD at 5200 RPM, which makes the work even better and a GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5, 16 GB of DDR4 memory @2400Mhz (RAM and SSD are upgradable) which is powerful enough to run all the latest games on medium/high settings @60hz refresh rate.
The base has been designed in a way that it generates less heat compares to it's counterparts and the fan noise is also negligible unless you are running something big for hours.
The battery life is also decent. For normal use it ran for 5-6 hours for me and i assume it will be around 3 hours while gaming.
The sound of this notebook is good but not excellent.
i did a lot of research before buying this notebook and i am really happy with my choice.
I will definitely recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a single portable device that provides advantages of a Notebook and an awesome gaming device with amazing features.

I purchased this laptop to replace my older model Lenovo Y50-70. I needed I smaller lighter system that could handle gaming on the road. So far the MSI has been nothing but smooth and snappy. It seems to stay amazingly cool when gaming. The fans do ramp up quite a bit during intense high end settings, but the noise is not excessive. The form factor of this laptop is nice and compact, it is much more comfortable to game on the keyboard than the Lenovo, which is much thicker. It has ample cooling exhaust ports on the back and sides.
The audio seems to sound real good, although I normally use a headset.
The keyboard lay out and keys feel nice. the stroke on the keys is a bit long, but they have a nice snap back. I enjoy the back lighting on the key board. Being able to customize it for different scenarios is amazing.
I love the matte finish on the screen. keeps the fingerprints and glare to a minimum. The display is very sharp and thin. The bezels could be less, but seem reasonable for the size of the laptop.
Overall, I am very impressed and pleased with the purchase. It has handled every game I have thrown at it on max settings. *mostly Blizzard games.

While I have a gaming desktop at home, I have recently been shopping around for a gaming machine for on the go with work travel. After much shopping around, I finally landed on this MSI Stealth laptop.
Overall, I very pleased with my purchase of this MSI Stealth laptop. The performance has been stellar and the looks are sleek.
PROS:
Looks - This laptop has a great look and feel. At first glance, this laptop doesn't scream gaming laptop. The aluminum body gives this a solid, sturdy feel and an upscale look.
Size - This is a very compact laptop among gaming varieties and is quite light as well (less that 4.5lb).
Speed - The i7-8750H and the SSD coupled together make for a very quick and speedy experience. Boot and program loading times are very fast.
Storage - As mention already, having the 256GB SSD for OS and program files makes for a very quick environment. Having the additional 1TB HDD leaves a lot of space for whatever you're trying to store.
GPU - This laptop comes equipped with a 1060 (not Max Q) that will handle most of today's games on higher settings.
Keyboard - The keys have a 1.9mm travel and feel fantastic to type on compared to most laptop keyboards. The backlighting is also a nice touch. With the inclusion of a steelseries keyboard you get the steelseries engine that allows you full customization of the keyboard, including lighting effects, macros, individual gaming settings, etc. This allows for a massive amount of customization with the keyboard. One last perk with the keyboard is the inclusion of the number pad.
Battery - The battery life seems to be decent when not pushing the computer. When doing normal tasks, the battery can easily last over 6 hours. Obviously, while gaming and pushing the laptop, you won't get near that type of longevity while not plugged in.
Dragon Center - The dragon center app allows you to easily tweak the major settings on the fly to allow for quick customization. This can let you shift from an eco mode to performance mode as well as monitor the "vitals" at any time.
Ports - You get 3 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0, and 1 USB-C with Thunderbolt capability. You also get an HDMI and a miniDP for additional display options. If you're looking to hook up to a LAN you also get an ethernet port, which is definitely a perk in my book.
Cons:
Touchpad - The touchpad on this laptop is atrocious. Luckily, this is a non-issue for the most part as almost anyone will be using a separate mouse when gaming on this computer.
Screen - Sadly this build does only come with a 60hz display. However, you can output to another display through the use of the hdmi, miniDP, or Thunderbolt for more robust options.
I am a huge fan of this laptop and would definitely recommend it to others.
I would recommend this to a friend

Great PC for Live Streaming or Gaming!

I bought the MSI STEALTH GS63-010 because my Mac obviously could not use a lot of Windows only programs that are necessary to live stream with TWITCH. The keyboard is just magical and so colorful. The color combination possibilities are endless. It is very quick and everything is easily found through Cortana (which is convenient for me since I've ONLY been a Mac user for the last 9.5 years). Another great thing is HOW THIN IT IS FOR A GAMING LAPTOP! I did NOT expect that. It also has a better range of motion as far as how far it can open. My Mac book Pro can't do that. The only thing I would have to say that I don't like is how easily it picks up finger prints, both on the inside and outside, including the keys, but it has a nice, large microfiber cloth that it comes with to clean it. Other than that, I'm still learning all that it can do. So far it has been a dream!
