Although the specs and portability seem good for the price, the build quality of this laptop is downright horrible. There is a lot of chassis flex, especially around the power button and underneath the keyboard. In addition, the trackpad is odd by not being physically clickable from the middle to the top. The very far bottom corners are not clickable either. Trying to click when not staring directly at the trackpad always felt like a gamble and I had to be ready for when my computer did not register a click. Out of the box, the trackpad would pick up unintended drags (not clicks, DRAGS), making something as simple as viewing a webpage a problematic nightmare. Through software tweaking, this was fixed. However, during gameplay most games would not register camera movement with the trackpad 100% of the time (always felt like 65% of the time, no matter how often I changed the trackpad settings both in-game and within Windows). Not to mention the other numerous software glitches I experienced with this unit, such as unnecessary graphics switching (which would make the computer freeze and skip momentarily every 5 to 7 seconds), failed Windows updates on different networks, and random instances where the current window I was viewing would either be clicked off of (without touching the trackpad at all) or would close out completely and not detect it crashed. My particular unit was plagued with terrible screen bleed and had 3 stuck pixels. To me, all of this is unacceptable for a laptop that costs $2,000. The size and weight of the laptop is excellent for a machine with these specs, but of course it would be with no chassis reinforcement. Do not purchase this machine. I see there are plenty of positive reviews from others regarding the same device, however I have a lot of consumer electronics experience (especially in computers) with different builds and brands, and this computer falls on my “do not buy” list, which is pretty rare.

I am not sure I would recommend this laptop to anyone. Purchased this back in October/November 2018 for my work and occasional gaming. The laptop itself performs great (when it worked). A week in and the laptop FAN (right fan) started making a whistling noise, it wasn't bad to the point of concern but nonetheless it made more noise than when I first operated the laptop the first week or so. Few weeks went by and the laptop is now SCREAMING so loud, it sounds like a jet engine taking off, headphones on max volume and I can still hear the laptop SCREAMING and getting boiling hot. I have been deployed in Afghanistan and is the reason why I purchased this laptop in the first place. The laptop has been stored 100% of its life in my AC controlled room. I have been using it for work and light gaming. if I was in the states I would of returned this right away. Unfortunately I am stuck over seas with this broken $2200 piece of junk that doesn't work. I am stuck here till the last week of Feb and are using a co workers computer for work related projects. I really, really hope BEST BUY stands by their products and can get this junk RMA'd when I return home so I can purchase something more solid. Sorry to be such a downer, when the laptop worked the first week or two it was great, powerful, quiet and FAST. But unfortunately the laptop HAS to keep working past 2 weeks. Very disappointed at the quality of this labtop, it is my first and will be my last MSI product.

Failed to be a gaming PC

I bought this laptop to use for gaming while on extended travel. I chose the MSI and this product particularly because of it's high ratings and excellent reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite. The computer could not support Overwatch on low settings, constantly overheating, freezing and glitching. Be sure to turn off any and all windows notifications because if any popup during a game, the game will freeze and crash. When playing online with friends, I would experience freezing, glitches, and crashes approximately every 4 minutes. Completely unacceptable for a gaming rig with the specs that it has. The computer runs very hot, close to 90C on normal gaming which causes the fans to be extremely loud. I often could hear the fans when wearing headphones. From an aesthetic view, the computer looks nice. The screen quality is amazing and the best feature of this machine. However, I couldn't fully appreciate it when I had to turn every game to low settings just to play a few minutes. A minor gripe, but no matter how clean your hands are, you will leave finger prints and marks on the top of the lid. I ended up returning this machine after 1 week for a full refund since it could not perform its primary function. Pros: - Beautiful Screen Cons: - Finger prints everywhere - Runs extremely hot - Could not support games on low settings - Loud - Windows popups crash all games

    Overheating

Updated bios. Updated filmware. Took to MSI technician. Told me everything is normal. Still getting 100C temp with thermal throttling. Have attempted to lower cpu percentage to keep temps down ( which is pointless in buying a powerful laptop in the first place?) This will cause games to crash due to not having enough power and still seeing temps in the mid 80s even with CPU down to 80%. I regret terribly in buying this computer and wish to no longer have any MSI products due to this experience. Your tech support has told me things are okay but there is not anything ok with an overheating computer and poor performance. I never see frames over 60 HZ on this 120 HZ monitor because the laptop is trying to keep the temps down harming the overall performance anyway. I get home and spend hours not enjoying the computer but trying to solve problems. My 700 dollars entry level computer was performing better.

This computer is the biggest waste of money. I bought it and i've only had it for 4 months and it is falling apart. its flimsy, it rattles. the screen is drooping, and it constantly has problems with audio and visual with windows 10. It was manufactured cheaply and it overall just has issues with windows 10. please dont buy this. I hate to waste my time writing this review, but i'm now battling with warranties to get support. I need a pc for work, but i know my next computer is going to be a macbook, for the quality and support alone. this computer is garbage. im so upset. again, sooo cheaply made. msi is also really sketchy to work with for warranties.

Okay so first of be advised that this is not an NVME SSD... that is why it is cheaper. It is SATA and considerably slower. They partition the drive and have several hokey partitions which would require unecessary work to set this up simple and utilize the 512 gg (including large restore partition). Screen is very nice. Aluminum body is so thin it flexes like junk imo. Feels cheap. And I found that mine stuttered/froze for a second all too often (M/B?). Sound is okay. Had all kinds of problems with Xbox streaming app freezing up that I do not have with other systems on same network. Returned. Buy a Surface 2 or a Razer Blade 15.

I am now on the third catastrophic failure of this laptop. The first it lost all power and warranty replaced the motherboard. That time it came back broken already crashing when the GPU had a load and a buzzing fan. I sent it in for that and it came back functional for 2 weeks now it is doing the same thing again. I have only owned it for 6 months total. I am truly beginning to lose faith in a company I used to buy most of my parts from. I dont know if I will ever buy another MSI product again

I wanted to love this laptop. It looks so awesome and it has wonderful reviews. However, for me, this laptop is horrible. The laptop updated windows and then after the windows update the wifi driver has disappeared completely. I am planning on living abroad so I am looking for a very reliable gaming laptop and this just does not fit the bill atm. I need something that is easy to fix outside of the United States where English is not spoken that much.

i bought this for 2,000 doars and it just keeps giving me issues. i'm not sure if it's the laptop i've recieved or any of that but left clicking would make this laptop lag HARD and i'd have to reboot to get it to even resolve. then it would shut down randomly, it was a terrible first intro to this device. i had to hard reset the entire laptop to get it to work fine. it's okay now but i'm still extremely paranoid.

    Broken

Just so everyone is aware the version of this laptop currently in stores all have the same problem that msi software ruins the frames. I went through 3 laptops all with the same problem, if it wasnt for the worker working the exchanges that day i would have never known that the only way to fix this bug is to format all the hard drives and clean install windows and even then the laptop slowly degrades right back down to broken.

Right off the bat, you'll notice that this computer is solid plastic, not the advertised metal constructions. I feels flimsy, and creeks every time you click the mouse pad. It come's jammed packed full of bloatware. Mine, upon receiving it, will not charge the battery. For the money spent on this thing, I was expecting a much higher quality built device.

Overall it is a great computer, but I have had two of them now (warranty replacement) and both of them have the same issue. The WIFI stops working the very first time you update windows. Spent 20 hours trying to troubleshoot the issue. This is not acceptable for a $2000 + laptop.
