This is a great notebook, especially for the money. I began my gaming laptop journey with an HP Omen and I was less than satisfied. Due to the competitive pricing and similar form factor, I opted to go with this MSI instead.
I have so far not been disappointed. I am not much of a gamer though I use graphically intense applications from time to time. I also multitask very frequently. To me, this laptop has been more of an investment for the future because the hardware and build quality seem to be very solid.
For productivity, the keyboard and display are excellent. The "steelseries" keyboard is one of the best keyboards I have used and the illumination effects are very visually appealing.
My particular Apache has been completely bug and bluescreen free since I have started to use it and it does not appear to have any glaring faults with the system, at least in my experience.
I could go on and on about the Apache Pro and its attributes but the bottom line is: it's a solid notebook.
It has lots of potential and I do not see it going out of date for quite a while with games and even longer for casual users such as myself.
My final word is if you're in the market for a well-performing gaming laptop with solid specs, a wide range of use, and a great look, this should be a solid contender.

Overall Great Laptop, Bit too Pricey..

Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to my review of the GE72VR.
I'll make this quick..ish..
This laptop is a great laptop, clean graphics, good look, runs great! A really great laptop for gamers and students if it means using it for casual gaming, hardcore gaming, or even just using it for Microsoft Word!
Packed with a 7th Gen i7(Quad Core) and a 3 GB GTX 1060, this guy definitely gets the job done in my opinion. One thing that is kind of annoying is that the top of the laptop gets warm to the touch if running graphical games such as Witcher 3, GTA 5, Etc.
Even with H1Z1, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, The Sims 4 and CSGO, this computer does get hot on the top so note that. Have had no real FPS issues with this guy, usually capping my games at 60 FPS because that's all I really need. Some games I have jitters where the FPS will drop from 60 to 55 to 50 to 60 to 57 FPS but nothing too too bad. CSGO runs beautifully, GMOD runs beautifully. Blah Blah blah... Witcher 3 and GTA 5 do have FPS issues (30 FPS and below) and may result in you messing with the graphics settings a bit to achieve smooth FPS.
The screen is a Anti Glare screen which means it shouldn't glare in direct sunlight but yet it does just not too bad and the screen IS NOT 120 mz (5ms) as I do get a lot of screen tearing that results in me turning on vsync in a game to get rid of that. The fans in it are loud...ish.. and yes they do sound like a jet taking off if you turn on the CoolBoost button that is located on top of the laptop, so yeah don't activate it in a library! The fan on the left side (CPU side) will always blow more than the one on the right side(GPU side) IF the game is a "low graphical" game. (If its a game that is crazy with graphics, such as Witcher 3, it will use both CPU and GPU power and result in the fans blowing hot air out of both vents).
I always keep the charger plugged into my laptop because you only get 30 mins or so of gaming off the charger so yeah... I don't mind that. (Also, you get 60 fps if you are plugged in and if you unplug, your fps will drop, yeah weird huh?)
Fast load up times with videos if streaming YouTube. Starting up the computer is perfect, no problem there because it has that 128 GB SSD
(Please note, games will save on C: drive and will use up the 128 gigs. You have to change the directory to D: drive (1 TB) when installing games and programs, which isn't hard just.. yeah).
The computer chassis is a dirt magnet, hair magnet, dust magnet, oil magnet and does get annoying, cleaning it every time I lay my palms on it and what not to make it look nice again but I'm not too bugged about it.
In conclusion, I have not had any real problem with this laptop. I think its a great laptop! The price is ridiculous though. Any other questions, ask away in the questions section and I will do my best to help!
Game On,
Patrick

The laptop did perform ok for window task however for games the system crash on me playing just league of legends ..also the panel is not 120mz 5ms view , this is the ge72vr 7rf , the ge72vr has 3 variants and this one is the low end variant it can only do 4K at 30 fps won't handle heavy games , fans sound hard like a jet the speakers .. they are awesome that's the only good thing if you wanna get the laptop get the one who can do 120 mz I don't remember the series, also get the one with 6 gb nvidia 1060 not the 3 gb , won't be enough for your games trust me I return the laptop the next day , if you wanna enjoy 120 mz you must connect a screen that can enable nvidia g-sync.
Oh I forgot to mention the keyboard lighting effects bad , lol and the audio mode is really bad, but the feel is good

I owned this for 3 weeks used it a total of 6 times and the gpu went out, causing a blue screen crash. I contacted msi and sent back for warranty repair. If you decide to purchase this get the geek squad plan. It costed me 98$ to send it in for repair.

The computer runs great. Fast startup and good system speed.
But it has a Poor Video Card Connection. The ribbon cable Going from video card to the display is flimsy and not well constructed. Had a long green vertical line across the whole screen after opening the laptop a few time. The hinders are really poor for the display size.

Bought this in June, worked great until Sept, then just shut down and won't restart. This is the shortest lived computer I've ever bought. 3 whole months! Back to using my 10 year old dell.

This laptop is pretty pricey. Never in my days as a human would I have thought about buying a laptop for more than $500. But I couldn't play computer games on the smaller laptop I had. Let's just say I was VERY nervous and hesitant to buy a $1,300 computer, but it is well worth every penny. The speed alone is unlike any computer I've ever had the pleasure of owning. I have 3 laptops, a tablet and a smartphone, and this is faster than ALL of them. It plays my games seamlessly and the graphics are extremely clear. It gets warm when I play games for any longer than two hours, but it never overheats, burns me, freezes up, etc. I noticed a lot of people also made comments about how loud the fan is, but it's really not that bad. It's definitely louder than your average computer fan, but if the humming noise generally doesn't bother you, it won't make much of a difference. And it only hums loudly when you're playing a game or running a more intense program for a longer period of time.
I definitely recommend this computer, or one similar. The best decision I could have made was buying this computer over a few other choices, despite the price, because the specs went above and beyond the capability I needed to play my games. And, if price is your only issue with this product, you can purchase it with interest-free financing for one year. So you can spread out your payments over a year. You also get a three-month extended warranty if you register your device with the manufacturer.
If I had to make the decision to buy this computer again, I would buy it in an instant!

The graphics look great. The top does get hot but not too bad. Some people might say that the laptop is a bit over priced but for me, in store it was more money then ordering it. Every game I play gets over 70 fps even with hardcore games, but you might have to Tweak some things in the settings. I never get screen tear or never get a sudden drop in frames. If you buy this laptop you won't be disappointed.

To be honest the only thing stopping me from returning is the ability to upgrade the RAM to 32GB and the high storage. This laptop is very heavy and gets hot very fast. The trackpad has this weird texture making is very hard to use. It came with a lot of bloatware as mentioned before. If I could change anything it would be to run a clean install of windows and request a smooth trackpad from MSI. Reaching out to them today to see if I can swap it out. If not, returning this desktop of a laptop tomorrow.

The MSI model number for this laptop is GE72VR Apache Pro-416.
This model does not have the 120 Hertz 5 ms Screen (which I did not need).
This GE72VR is well equipped with:
Intel 7th generation Core i7 CPU
Intel HD 630 graphics processor
nVidia GeForce GTX1060 with 3 Gig of GDDR5 RAM
Dual Drives 128 Gig M.2 SATA and 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Intel 3168 WiFi
Excellent Display
Plenty of Ports
Under 6 Pounds
Bottom Line is this: If you need a fast, capable, workhorse of a Laptop, the GE72VR is an outstanding choice.
Recommendations:
Clean Install Windows 10 onto the Laptop to solve & avoid lots of problems. Search "western gents united" -- he has great videos explaining how to do a Clean Install, and how to do it easily.
Uninstall and Clean Re-Install the nVidia Drivers & Software. Search "guru3d driver uninstaller" for an excellent tool that will help you do this easily.

This is one of the best gaming laptops I had ever bought. It is very quiet and it does not get very hot underneath due to the cooler boost 4. It is VR ready and the SSD + HHD hybrid comes in handy. games run great. the downside is the battery life. it drains too quickly.

This laptop is a great overall gaming laptop. The processor is plenty fast and graphics are great as well. The 17" display makes for a very pleasant gaming experience. The only bad things i would say are the battery, you have to almost always have it plugged in or it will die within about 45 minutes. Also, the speakers are some of the worst i've heard. Watching movies and I was struggling to hear what they were saying. Also, my webcam only works half the time on special occasions But overall this is a great laptop to use for gaming.

This laptop is great. Everything runs smoothly on it. Even though the GTX 1060 is a 3gb version i did some research and the 6gb version of the 1060 is not that much different. Runs games smoothly and could never have gotten a better deal!

I looked up online what was the best gaming laptop money could buy and the MSI stealth was repeatedly rated number one. So I upgraded it to a 17-inch screen in a terabyte the memory and bought it just to play a few simple games 2300 hours later the computer showed up and within a few weeks it started making all kinds of noise from the fans the computer started getting hot to where it would burn your fingertips if you touch the top of it above the keyboard. I took it back to Best buy they sent it out to be repaired this was six weeks after I got it total and the company effectively junked it and replaced it with the new one have a $2,300 computer could be not worth fixing 6 weeks after you buy it is beyond me but that's what they did. Few days later I got the new one delivered to my house I opened it up I turned it on and the keyboard won't work and nothing I could do would make it work so I brought it back to Best buy they tried to fix it but it couldn't be fixed it was a hardware issues so once again I'm having to replace it for third time $2,300 on the best gaming laptop money can buy and I've had to replace it three times in 8 weeks this computer isn't worth your trouble I don't care what the reviews say don't buy it MSI does not have quality products and they're not worth paying for.
