Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard's affordable price, ease of use, and solid performance. Many appreciate its user-friendly BIOS, extensive features including multiple USB ports and fan headers, and compatibility with various components. The inclusion of USB-C and RGB lighting are also frequently praised. While some users found the motherboard slightly large, the positive feedback significantly outweighs the negative.

I purchased this motherboard as it was the one that most youtubers recommended as an overall great value for performance and price. If you are planning to as well for the same reason, read my review before committing. I can say from experience that this motherboard is a component in my pc that does it's job in allowing my computer to function properly. However, this motherboard lacks a features that may seem unimportant for computer performance, but I personally feel is still very important as it has become very popular to man people planning to build a PC. This motherboard has 12 volt headers versus 5 volts. Now I didn't even know what that meant, but later I would find out that if you want to have nicely controlled RGB in your computer build, You need a motherboard that supports 5 volt header plugs instead. There is absolutely nothing that can convert the 12 volt headers into 5 volts, so know that you will be giving up any possibility of having an awesome looking computer station. It's still possible to have fans that have single light colors in them because those just turn on when the PC is on, but you wont be able to do anything fancy like use rgb fans that rely on the 5 volt headers and run a program that controls all the RGB on all the component to make your computer setup flow in sync and look really awesome. If you are planning to build a PC with RGB in mind, I would not recommend this motherboard. If your not about that life, there really isn't anything else to complain about.

Excellent choice for any Ryzen 3000 user not wanting the pcie 4.0 storage at an excellent price. No update needed, Zen 3000 ready. Purchased this for my daughter to pair with her 3600 and was one of the most flawless and painless builds I've ever done. As an administrator and moderator on numerous AMD pages on Facebook and a moderator on amd's official page, I used to call the tomahawk crowd a Colt clan but now I see why they loved this motherboard so much.

Easy to install, BIOS is very simple to navigate, and the subtle, color-changing LED’s are very soothing to the eye. Performance-wise, my computer gets to the lock screen in about 20 seconds (maybe less) from the time I press the power button, which is very impressive.

I'm a huge fan of MSI mobos. This is a great board for beginners to use. The BIOS is already set for Ryzen 3000 drop in. I just put in the Ryzen 5 3600x and was ready to go. Even though the board only supports 4 sys fans, you can use the pump fan and a splitter to power 2 additional case fans if you don't plan on using an AIO. Then go into the bios and change the pump fan regulation to smart temp. Been running it for a month now and no issues. The only bummer side is that Corsair icue and mystic light don't play well together, so rgb color coordination is a no go from what I've tried and researched. You'll need to run both programs.

This board has everything you need. The built quality, the speed, the ports and USB-C at a very good price and the bios\firmware is built to support AMD Ryzen 3000 CPU out of box. I went with this B450 vs the B475 due to the fact that I do not need PCI 4, I have a RTX 2070 Super at the moment and will not upgrade until 3-4yrs. At that point I'll just update my entire system. Who is this for? If you are looking to game on a mid-high budget. If you are on a budget. If you have a Ryzen 2000 or 3000 chip. If you need rebuilt wifi. Cons... Not as fast as the 475 boards but... the difference is so small (7-15% in nanoseconds). Does not have PCI 4.. But the new RTX 3000 series will still work and reach maximum data transfer speeds.

It had been time to replace my old PC for a while now. I wasn't exactly caught up with the times on current gen hardware, but after looking around I decided on a Ryzen 5 3600X cpu and started from there. The MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX came with high reviews everywhere I checked, and was recommended on many youtube channels as the most value for your buck alongside the aforementioned cpu. I paired it with the RX 5700 XT graphics card and other assorted components. After installing all the appropriate drivers and updating the BIOS, everything turned out working great. I am happy with the purchase, and glad that I was steered in the right direction.

A beast of a motherboard for the price. Lacks bluetooth and Wifi but can buy a separate PCIe card for that about $25-$35 dollars. Besides that, this motherboard is great. 5 USB ports, 3 I believe being USB 3, USB-C port, HDMI port, DVI port, a lot of audio poets and your ethernet port. Little red LED ok the board to know when the computer is on and many different connections for all your other components needs. Works great with AMD 3000 series CPUs. Great value.

A pretty good motherboard for the price, support for ryzen 5000 through bios and decent performance on ryzen 9 without overclock, I would not recommend overclocking on ryzen 9 with this motherboard, in other lower ryzen if I would, the only downside is the pcie gen 3 connectivity and that you can not use all at the same time because it lowers the speed when sharing channels, but from there a cheap board and that gives battle.

A great, easy to work with motherboard for a mid range build. Paired with a Ryzen 5 3700x and 32 GB 3200 RAM. Very satisfied with the build and performance. Hard to go wrong with Tomahawks! This is my second build with their boards and I have had zero issues. it has no RGB and is no frills but a great value at the price (I paid $115)

First time PC builder here. Instructions were pretty clear. Worked immediately with my 3rd gen Ryzen CPU without having to flash the BIOS. The first motherboard I got was only half working, but Best Buy swapped it for a fully functional motherboard (thanks). And... well... it's a motherboard all right. That's all I have to say about that.

Took me a long time to look for a good motherboard, if you are new and still trying to understand the whole motherboard stuff. I will recommend this one, it is great, affordable and allows for a lot of growth to your parts. I spent 1200 for my pc and this was a perfect choice.

Running a new-gen Ryzen 1600 and had some problems with a cheaper Gigabyte motherboard. I upgraded to this motherboard and returned the board with issues. This motherboard works great out of the box, bios was updated already, and I have yet to find any issues with it.

I had such an easy time installing this into my ATX case and flashing the bios on to the board couldn't be much easier with the flash bios usb port. It works great! The amount of I/O is also super convenient to have, especially the option to use a USB-C port.

Supports latest AMD CPUs and great VRM can support high end chips. What more can you ask for? Super happy with the purchase has been running great. Easy to use bios. Already upgraded to support latest Ryzen chips. I overclocked both my cpu and RAM and board doesn’t get hot. Only suggestion is to at least use an aftermarket CPU cooler on AMD chips if you’re overclocking.

This motherboard goes above and beyond for a price of $120-130. With a reliable BIOS and the motherboard being Ryzen 3000 ready right out of the box, I would not recommend any other motherboard for a first time PC.

This MOBO has the BIOS already flashed to the correct version that you need for the latest Ryzen chip sets as of 09/2020. I can't say enough positive things about this board, especially for the price.
