After owning my old acer aspire e5 575g gaming laptop for 5+ years I’ve decided to get an new upgraded Msi cyborg 15 a12 gaming laptop from best buy and after when it came in ive done some upgrading and testing. After the full result I immediately fell in love with it and would say definitely worth it for your buck if you are looking for a high performance gaming laptop. The only downside about it is once you first recive this laptop it will come with default of 8gb of ram ddr5 4800mhz and 512GB. But after installing more ram with 4800mhz and maybe storage youll be pretty much set. (If upgrading ram use 2 sodimm ddr5 ram slots of between 16GB - 64GB) (if upgrading storage it only has one m.2 pcie x4 slot. So you can do between 1TB - 4TB if not satisfied with 512GB).

really solid specs on the laptop but was unable to do video editing until I upgraded the RAM. I went with 32gb (2x16) but i’m sure even just adding 8 would be plenty. with only 8gb it seems to run smoothly until you try to run a heavy workload, cpu and gpu will remain underutilized and the ram at 99%. build quality is what you would expect at the price point, if a bit more sturdy since the top is made from metal. great for light editing, can smoothly decode 4k 10 bit 4:2:2 in real time, especially when plugged in (after ram upgrade). 4 stars instead of 5 because accessing the area to upgrade the RAM voids the warranty. do so at your own risk or pay a professional to do it for you! best buy probably offers this service

I bought it knowing I’d need to upgrade it. 8Gb of RAM isn’t enough and the CPU and GPU would max out. I went way overkill and got 48 Gb of RAM (16 GB would be more than enough for most people), it was super easy to upgrade, and still cheaper than the 16 Gb option, so no complaints here. Don’t buy if you aren’t able to/willing to upgrade though. Also for those complaining/curious about battery life, I’ve seen more expensive laptops with worse battery life, gaming laptops just use a lot of power, you’re not getting 2 hours of battery life in most situations (Photos: First 16 Gb RAM upgrade, Pre upgrade, and post upgrade task manager)

Best laptop for the price with the Nvidia 40 series, lacks in the ram department which will still allow you to play games like fortnite Minecraft and a lot of low ram games, but a high ram game like warzone gives a little bit of fps drop, i recently bought a ram upgrade to help with this problem. This laptop looks easy to upgrade and install parts.

Absolutely love this laptop so far. Like all gaming laptops, the battery life leaves much to be desired but that’s not a problem with this specific laptop, just in general with the type. I have not yet used it for gaming but I’m sure it will hold up well. Only removing a star because the battery runs super hot even when on an aerated surface and not running games, which is mildly concerning. I wasn’t even watching videos. No other glaring flaws.

Bought this for my wife to replace her aged GTX770 Desktop, Desktop was more than aged and had given its all to our gaming habits. It was time and since I have moved away from desktop PC's to go mobile, She decided to go the same way, Looking at the RTX40xx series and her budget, I found this little gem that will suit her needs plus more for a good while. Everyday Use - though 8gb RAM may seem dated it has proved to do well with everyday usage for her needs (email, browsing and streaming her favorite reality shows). Editing documents in MS365 no problems. Screen is nice - though it usually hooked up to an external monitor - roaming around the house, its not bad - but not a mini-led or oled either. For her use - perfect. Gaming - Mainly play Heroes of the Storm - no issues and can run it at max settings. It does get warm, but not as hot as my razer blade 15. Also the fans aren't that loud compared to other gaming laptops out there. It is quiet when used doing basic/everyday computing needs and rarely spools up - Haven't ran any benchmarks or monitored the temperatures for thermal throttling, but I don't think HotS is that demanding of a game in the first place to have it hit thermal limits. All in all - for a budget gaming laptop in the RTX4060 space, I think this a great value. I will be adding an addition 8gb stick of ram and maybe upgrade the SSD to a 1TB drive - but out of the box not a bad deal. Oh it is super light - chassis is plastic, but tough and feels very sturdy. If you are in the market for a capable budget gaming laptop i would consider this one. If you are looking for a hardcore maxxed speced out laptop, this isnt the one for you.

This is my 1st gaming laptop. It is good for the price when you find it on sale. For a 45W GPU, it does indeed game pretty decent at 1080p medium settings in some AAA titles. If you get the 8GB ram version, upgrade it ASAP to at least 16GB. Same thing with the base 512GB storage, more storage is required for gaming these days. For the heat it gets while tasking/gaming, it's actually not that bad, despite having one fan. For low power gpu, and cpu, it is kinda expected to produce not too much heat. Use a laptop stand, or a cooling pad though. Overall, not bad for the price if it's on SALE (again).

Surprising performance. Some curious design decisions, too. I'm not sure why a gaming laptop would require a numpad... but it's here. It's small. Some of the main keys are resized to make it work which probably were an unnecessary sacrifice -- I actually use my tilde key as a bind in games because it's close to WASD, but on this laptop it's smaller. TAB is smaller. Right Shift is smaller but that's less noticeable. Still, it's all workable for average typing. I wouldn't create the next great American novel on this but I can smack talk someone on a forum easily enough. But yeah, the performance is great. She runs hot. Wifi is fast. Display is good in average to low lighting, but in full sun you'll have a very bad time. There's very little bloatware installed -- I recommend removing Norton 360 "gamer edition" unless you really want it. Registering the laptop with MSI had a hiccup where I could not receive their account activation email/verification... but I opened a ticket with MSI and they replied within minutes and manually activated me. Then I could register my warranty. I'll note I won't travel with this much. Certainly not a daily driver I would take out into the world. It could be in someone else's hands. I'll mostly use it at home when I want to get away from the desk and on the occasional trip I'll take. I doubt I'll ever be far from a plug so I won't comment on battery life. Get yourself at least 8GB additional memory. Installing it is pretty easy if you have a small enough phillips head for your driver, and a spudger/pry tool ... preferably plastic so you're not marring the case. One screw is hiding under a "factory seal" sticker that may discourage you from doing the upgrade... don't be deterred. Per MSI themselves, you aren't voiding your warranty to add RAM. Just be careful and take your time, the retention clips on the laptop shell take a little work.

I'm still stoked that I got this laptop, on sale, for $800! I still upgraded it, with an extra 16GB stick of DDR5 RAM and a 2TB XLR8 NVMe SSD, but it's a beast for the price - after upgrading. Most AAA titles recommend having 16GB RAM, even if it's DDR5, so 8GB is the only major drawback. Luckily, DDR5 RAM is super cheap now. Upgrading is easy, and the warranty sticker being removed does NOT LEGALLY void warranty. Overclocking is easy, with MSI Afterburner, and I play most AAA at 60FPS-100FPS, with High / Max Settings. Older titles, or less graphically demanding titles, will easily hit over 120FPS - even with settings maxed out. Currently playing Alan Wake 2 with most settings MAXED. I'm still getting 45FPS-60FPS consistently. PS - DO THE MSI REGISTRATION / SURVEY FOR FREE 3 MONTH WARRANTY EXTENSION
