Summary- Good: -great speccs -beautiful, fluid display -nice keyboard layout, buttons are larger than other 15” laptops which I like -MSI software is intuitive and useful and lets you choose what you want/don’t want -easy to customize user experience, from graphics settings to keyboard lighting and fan speed, to overclocking the CPU/GPU. -quality build -power port in rear (personal preference but I like that) -good amount of accessory ports -unit stays cool even under intense gaming Bad: -onboard speakers suck -as mentioned build quality is good, but I like the all metal Razer build more -screen is bright, had to tone it down (rather be too bright and turn down than too dark though) -heavier than other laptops in its class and the power brick is large. If you’re a highly mobile gamer the extra weight may be an issue for you -With Razer I liked how everything was holistic (assuming you bought Razer accessories) and worked seamlessly with Synapse. MSI doesn’t make a lot of accessories I use, and the built in keyboard which is Steelseries (SS) is fine, but I don’t care for their mice or headphones, so I have to install third party stuff like Razer synapse or Corsair. More detailed review- Excellent Excellent. Sold my Razer (2019 Razer Blade Adv 2080) to buy this. The speccs are GREAT and it’s a good price especially for a RTX 3080 w/ 16g VRAM and an 11th gen i9. The screen is GORGEOUS, the QHD at 240hz is perfect, amazingly smooth and fluid, very picturesque. The screen is a little bright, so I had to tone it down some. After set-up, first boot was super fast, booted to windows in seconds. As a techie, I also adjust things, so future boots will be even faster. The onboard RAM is good-32g at 3200hz, that’s good enough for me. I prefer the power port on the rear makes it easier to game in various locations (desk, chair, couch etc without having to worry about which side of the computer the port is on). That was a constant annoyance of Razer where the port was on the left side. This computer is thicker than my Razer was by probably 50% maybe more. The power brick is also larger probably by twice (maybe a bit less). I am not an overly mobile gamer, so the added weight of the unit and brick don’t really matter to me as I seldom travel with the laptop, when I do travel, usually work related, it’s in a backpack and I haven’t had any issues. The Razer got HOT, the brick would burn if touched and the computer would get quite hot too. My first temp tests on this computer went swimmingly. The thicker build adds for more airflow and better fans, while the fans can be loud, especially on a higher setting, I typically game with headphones, so it’s a non issue for me and the unit stays cool, add a coolmat or external fan mat and even better. I do miss the metal construction of the Razer. While the MSI is a quality build, it is mostly high grade plastic with some metal, but is an attractive design and not too ostentatious (as long as you disable the light bar otherwise it looks like a Jedi attached his lightsaber to the front of your computer…) I prefer the keyboard on MSI, it’s slightly larger, the buttons are also slightly larger, which I prefer. It’s a Steelseries board, so it’s definitely quality and has the per key RGB, while the software from SS isn’t as intuitive as Razer Synapse, it’s fine. Biggest complaint, (doesn’t apply to me as I wear headphones but I think some people would notice this) the onboard speakers suck. The sound is not overly good, and if your fans on turned on medium+ they can drown out the computer speakers. Then again it’s a laptop, not a full rig, so you get what get. I would suggest using headphones to play. The front bar that lights up, I find annoying and turned it off. It’s distracting and too bright. I would have preferred the unit not even have it. Maybe it appeals to some, just not to me. Whatever floats your boat. Some people have complained that the power button is in a bad place, I have no issues with it I find it to be convenient. Let’s be honest, if you’re a gamer and concerned about battery life on your gaming laptop, yo should buy a desktop…the battery life is average for a computer of its type. I do not play on battery. I keep it plugged it, allowed battery to drain fully once. I think i got about 2 hours of gaming on battery, maybe 1:45 mins, but gaming on battery will affect the quality of the gaming experience depending on your settings. If you’re very battery conscious, you may want to look elsewhere. The computer didn’t come with too much bloatware, very little actually. I find the MSI gaming software helpful and useful especially for tracking usage and benchmarks. Overall, for me 5/5.

I purchased this laptop prior to travelling to school so that I wouldn't have to worry about a unit that would frustrate me while doing assignments or just being able to seamlessly switch between studies and intense gaming and I must admit that I got what I was expecting plus more. The keyboard is very comfortable to type, though it may not have a number pad on the side the numbers on top are large enough that 1 could utilize them without breaking too much of the rhythm of typing, the lighting of the keyboard is also nice though I tend to just have it off due to classes and professional settings. The display is fantastic with no glare (as advertised) regardless of the angle in which it is positioned. The specs speak for themselves, a RTX 3080 with 16 GB VRAM with a pre installed 32 GB RAM an 11th gen i9 processor and 1 TB SSD it basically runs better than most PCs. Now the battery, it is well known that gaming laptops and battery life don't get along very well and that also holds true here when running any sort of content that enforces the use of the RTX 3080 you will get roughly 1.5-2.5 hours of battery, but during my time in classes I could easily get 5-6+ hours straight of battery life when taking notes watching lecture videos and doing practice questions seamlessly, which in my experience if I have to be using a laptop for more than 2-3 hours I would most likely look for an outlet to connect to. All in all I highly recommend this purchase as I feel that not only is this a high end laptop, but also one that will last me with a piece of equipment that will still be high quality a few years down the line.

I am absolutely loving this gaming laptop. It is a BEAST of a machine. I have become accustomed to having at least a little lag when doing anything on a computer all my life. Boy have I been missing out. I almost did not get it as my brothers tried to talk me into getting a desktop instead because of the GPU performance difference. I'm glad I did not listen to them! This thing is so practical for me and I can literally game anywhere at home with ease. it is not as bulky as I thought it would be. The power brick is roughly twice the size of a normal laptop charger. It's not crazy huge though. The display is AMAZING. I am spoiled with how smooth gaming or watching videos is at 240hz in 1440p. It is so buttery smooth and the colors are nice. It is a matte finish, which I like, but some people may not. I am not sure about the other complaints regarding this thing coming with a jet engine are all about. I was expecting it to be super loud and while its much louder than other laptops I have owned, it is not bad at all. I usually have the speaker volume at 16-20 and I hear perfectly fine. I do recommend a cooling pad as it keeps it a bit cooler and helps with performance. I have my frame counter setup for my steam games, and I have yet to play a game on Ultra that will drop below 150FPS. I still cannot believe how powerful this laptop is. If you are on the fence and have the funds to get this, DO IT! My only concern is getting two BSOD when I setup two new razer mice. For some reason it had an issue when I was setting up the mice and trying to configure them. It self resolved and has worked like a charm.

THE gaming laptop when it comes to performance!

To get to this laptop I swapped out 3 other gaming laptops, this is definitely the one! The overall layout of the laptop is solid. It has some weight on it, but it's not insanely heavy, I like the balance of ports on the side with a few on the back. Hiding the power cord in the back is a better layout to me, and the HDMI port definitely makes more sense to be on the back. The RGB lighting strip on the front is a nice eye-catcher, if it's too extra for you it can be turned off. The keyboard is...cool. Buttons feel a little mushy. It's not a Macbook keyboard, but, most gaming laptops don't have the greatest of keyboards. Sound quality...? If you're playing on a gaming laptop speakers are going to be lacking, add in fan volume, and across the board, it's a mixed bag...you're going to need a headset. The fans don't get too loud but get a gaming headset. The MSI GE66 comes with a 15.6" 1440p screen with a 240 Hz refresh rate. I know 4k gets tossed around a lot, but at this screen, size 4k is overkill for GPUs that won't hit it with good frames without burning up. 1440 is the sweet spot, and, with the 16 gig 3080 with 130w TDP, I'm playing Apex Legends on its highest settings hitting 120+ FPS. I averaged between 90 and 100 FPS at 1440P with everything maxed (including raytracing) on Black Ops: Cold War with balanced DLSS. I ran some Battlefield 4 in preparation for Battlefield 2042 and I averaged 192 FPS with maxed settings at 1440! I know a lot of people prefer AMD processors for their efficiency, but, let me say this; I had another laptop from a popular brand with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900 processor. In a 14 inch chassis, that processor was hitting 100 degrees on the temperature, averaging mid to high 90s for gaming sessions. On this 15 inch MSI GE66, I'm maxing at 90 averaging low to mid-80s achieving the frames I'm getting at 1440p. Still a little on the high side but safer in the long run than 100 degrees. A cooling pad I got from Best Buy dropped temps 5-10 degrees on average. Overall I feel this laptop hits a sweet spot in regards to high-end gaming laptops. No, it's not the most powerful laptop like its big brother the 17" GE76, but at 17" I think 1080p seems to be a little stretched out (which is what the GE76 comes with). 15" QHD is the way to go until we get more 17" 1440p laptops. A decent keyboard for a gaming laptop, 130w TDP 16 gig 3080, 32 gigs of ram, and the 11th gen I9 processor...add another SSD to this baby (which, it has an open SSD slot) and you're set.

This is my first PC in about 8 years. I’m swapping from MacBook Pro. I must say this laptop handles anything very well. It’s a 32gb allowing very effective and efficient operation of any application at mostly full capacity. I have no issues running DeVinci while have Minecraft on a separate monitor. I really enjoy the location of the ports on the back. The durability is good and materials. Screen is a 15.6” works great with travel, I was going to go W/ GE76 but glade I did not. The performance on the RTX3080 great. I mostly play COD and BATTLEFIELD, I do get some lag but I believe that to be on the software side. Speaking of connection, the wifi “Killer” card wifi 6 is absolutely amazing! Coming from Mac and one who travels a lot I always had issues with connection and hotel/airport wifi. Now I go back to these same location and it’s as if I was connected via Ethernet cable! Cons: it does get hot CPU can push in full mode up to 88 deg. Keep an eye out overtime might have to replace CPU gel or get fan board. One can notice fingerprints, not as bad as Razer… last is battery life is absolutely terrible, if you remember to select battery saver you can get a good 3 hrs at most but during any games or simple video edits forget it, u have to plug it.

Unbelievable product. Perfect combo of processor, GPU, fast memory (that doesn't need upgrading like many in this category), fast SSD speeds and excellent monitor. Heat not an issue so far but if it is a simple undervolt will do it.

I bought this for use principally as a "future-proof" workhorse after my old laptop told me it was time for it to retire, but I have also used it for high-resolution photo editing (Lightroom) and to run some video games (e.g. MS Flight Simulator on highest-level graphics), and it is a very fast and powerful laptop. I ran it through userbenchmark.com and it rated "UFO" across the board. It can get a little hot and loud when running the most intensive applications, but this is not surprising. (I did buy a laptop cooling pad / system with fans to keep it from overheating while running those programs, and that seemed to help a lot.)

This computer is a race horse! I bought itr as a replacement for an older one. I bought an MSI for my wife two years ago since she had started gaming with our grandson. We have both been highly impressed with it. I bought this computer since I do a lot of Photoshop at work and I like to play ultrarealistic Minecraft. On Minecraft my previous computer could do 20 fps with most of the mod tags set at minimum, whereas this one can do the same mods at 80 fps - with all the mod tags set at maximum. Large Photoshop files open within a couple of seconds. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

It's such a great and smooth gaming laptop! The ONLY flaw I have in it is that in less than 3 months, the internal speakers no longer work. I'm at this moment whether I just keep it because I can't get anything better at this price, or do I turn it in and downgrade to a lower graphics card, lower SSD, or lower refresh rate. I can easily use headphones and external speakers, but if I were to take it with me, then I can't even do the simple thing as watch a YouTube video with someone with me.

Very happy with his laptop. I had to return a couple high-end laptops but this one is a keeper. Love the Q HD display love you for 3080 powerhouse. And love the noise level when it does get hot.Not much needed to upgrade other than additional storage space. Hopefully all gamers know by now trying to game on battery only is never good on a beast of a laptop.
