I was debating between this and the 360HZ model for the same price. I decided this one because of the QHD resolution. Was disappointed as the icons were too small and some older software that will never be updated were really screwed up on appearance. So I ended up setting my default resolution to 1920 x 1080 as in all standard 17.3" displays. Then all was fine and I liked it so much for the price point I ordered 2 more. During the shipping time the 360HZ model went on sale for $200 less, at that point I knew I was going to return all 3 and purchase the 360HZ models to save $600. They stated on the ad there was 1 less USB 3.0 port on the 360HZand that is NOT the case. If the other one had not went on sale I would have kept these three. My only grip is the keyboard HOME and END keys require pressing the awkwardly placed FN key. So my fix to that was PowerToysz and assigned the Scroll Lock and Insert keys to Home and End and further assigned the a specific color on the Steel Series Per Key color assignment. Has an extra M2 slot as well.

It is sleek, thin, and noticeably more durable than the outgoing GS75. I bought this on launch back in August and it has been basically problem free for me as of the date of this review. There is minimal flex and the edges are all smooth. Speakers are huge improvement but slightly behind compared to ASUS offerings. I did immediately swap out some stuff.
The SSD was 1TB Western Digital Gen 4 and RAM pair was Samsung 3200MHz kits originally. I swapped out to Samsung 980 PRO 2TB and Crucial 2x32GB kit. The RAM I had trouble getting it to 3200MHz; but the timings are much faster than the Samsung and will perform similar according to a RAM timings calculator.
I also use this laptop with a RAZER thunderbolt 4 dock and it works great like 99% of the time. Sometimes my external display disconnects; uncertain the root cause of this issue.

I have now had this unit for four weeks and put it through its paces. I am very pleased with its overall performance. I have had no issues. The only down side of this unit is its reduced power to the CPU and GPU. This has to be done to control the heat in the thin format. More power more heat equals a bigger, heavier, and more expensive unit. Although, this unit is not the fastest or the best, you cannot beat the "bang for the buck". It will play AAA games. If you want to do better for the same configuration you will pay about $1K more; that’s if you can find one and not have to wait forever to get it with today’s supply and shipping issues.
I am coming from a 5-year-old Alienware 17 r3 4K UHD 60Hz laptop. I do not do a lot of gaming, but do video and photo processing. I first got the MSI FHD 360Hz unit on sale for $200 less than this one. I wanted the QHD screen but it was out of stock, unknown when it may be available. I was not pleased with the FHD 360Hz panel. Overall, this panel is OK if you want speed. Check out YouTube for gaming speeds. People have complained about the light bleed, but it is no worse than my Alienware. Every LED/LCD panel has light bleed. If you are in a dark room with a black/blank screen you will see it along the edges. In everyday use it is not noticeable; period. I found the MSI panel’s out of the box color calibration to be right on with my Alienware calibrated panel. However, the brightness of the FHD 360Hz panel is a lot dimmer. Same photo on the Alienware (400 nit) I set at a Windows brightness of 50. The MSI (FHD 300 nit) has to be set at 90 to achieve the same brightness. This is in a bright room. For most, this brightness level will be sufficient. But outdoors the MSI FHD panel will fall short. I found I was spoiled by the 4K screen when it comes to graphics. Gaming and watching a movie, the FHD screen is fine. Although I like the MSI FHD 360Hz unit overall, I returned it and decided to wait for a 4K UHD or a 2K QHD unit.
Best Buy got the MSI QHD unit back in stock and I jumped on it. The difference between the FHD 360Hz and the QHD 240Hz is like night and day. The QHD panel is brighter and sharper. When comparing with the Alienware 4K it is right on par. The same picture with the Alienware at 50 brightness, the MSI QHD is at 60. The 2K QHD resolution actually is just fine for my photo and graphic work. Don’t get me wrong, 4K is better if you require it, but I found that this QHD is perfect for my needs. It’s cheaper and less battery drain than a 4K. I found it just as nice on 17” as 4K and it seems to hit the “Sweet Spot” for gamers and photo/video/graphic processors. The brightness and sharpness of the panel is paramount to me. If you want speed and plan on using the laptop inside with normal to low light then the FHD panel is it. But for me the difference of 360Hz to 240Hz is nominal and I want the brighter and sharper image over the little difference of speed.
Heat is an issue with any laptop and especially with gaming laptops. I have a video conversion process I do with proprietary software and it is intense on the CPU and GPU. I’m now working with 4K and the old Alienware can no longer keep up. I found with this unit set in Extreme Performance Mode with GPU set to discrete and GPU over clocked without Cooler Boost turned on, my CPU was running as high as 95c. Turning on cooler boost lowered the CPU to 85C and lower. The GPU ran cool at 75-80c. The fans are running at 6,000 RPM with Cooler Boost and do produce noise, but they are still quieter than a lot of other gaming laptops at max fans. It is no louder than my Alienware when its fans are maxed out. Since my process is automated and takes several hours, I just walk away once I’m satisfied CPU/GPU temps are stable. I found for everyday use and even lighter graphic processing that the Balanced mode works just fine with less fan noise at up to 3,000 RPM with acceptable CPU/GPU temps, or mostly no fan noise for general office work.
MSI GS76 Stealth 11UG-232 QHD Pros and Cons:
Pro: Best bang for the buck for the specs.
Bright, sharp, and fast QHD panel
i9 11th gen mobile CPU
Nvidia RTX 3070 mobile GPU
1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 Gen 4x4 SSD - Second M.2 Gen 3x4 SSD slot available.
32GB RAM – which is more than enough.
Mux switch for the discrete Nvidia GPU
Per Key RGB keyboard
Quiet fans compared to other gaming laptops. All gaming laptops will have fan noise!
Latest generation ports (HDMI is still only 2.1 and not 2.2)
Full Size SD Card Slot, not micro size
AX-6e 2x2 Wi-Fi that can do 6GHz, 5GHz, and 2.4GHz with an AX-6e Network/Router
Number keypad. With disappearing number pads these days, MSI did good for a thin laptop.
Small and light for a 17” laptop. Easy to carry for work and play. Looks like any other work laptop on the outside (Stealth) without all the gaudy lights some gaming laptops have.
Con: Low power CPU/GPU – only 95W to GPU that could handle up to 140W, although too hot for this design. The GE Raider has more power, but is bigger, heavier, and costs more for same specs.
Inverted Motherboard – RAM access requires removal of motherboard. At 32GB there should be no need for more RAM
Keyboard Fonts – Took me some time getting used to compared to a standard keyboard font.
Function Key on right side – Why? You will get used to it.
Internal speakers OK for office work, but not for movies or music.
Right side ports too far front, device cables can get in way of mouse for right handers. Same on left side for lefties.
I find this laptop to have the best features/specs for the price. MSI quality control seems to very good compared to the last two Alienware laptops I tried in the last two years. Both were returned for motherboard issues. So far, this MSI has handled everything I have thrown at it.
Laptops are personal and subjective. Everyone has different needs. Do your research and know what you are buying. Fan noise is inevitable with any performance gaming laptop and even desktops. It is the nature of the beast. I think MSI has done well with the fans on this unit and they are as quiet as can be. Best Buy has a great return policy. Just be sure to evaluate and return in the allotted time period should you find you do not like your purchase.
FYI, my MSI came with Window 10 “20H2” and not the latest Windows 10 “21H1”. I did update to Windows 11 when offered by Windows update and it went smooth. It kept most my Windows settings, but I did find a few that were changed.
Should anything happen to change my opinion/rating of this unit I will update this review.

Excellent gaming laptop with huge battery

This is an excellent laptop that surpassed all my expectations. It is built very solid, has all the high performance parts I wanted, plenty of ports, and a huge battery that actually makes this laptop usable for work. The screen is gorgeous, I feel like QHD is perfect for this size screen. 1080p is a little low for my tastes, and 4K on a screen this size is overkill. The i9 CPU can handle anything you throw at it, from games and rendering to usual daily activities. The 32GB RAM was a big selling point for me, as I find 16GB too little to accomplish what I want. The 3070 handles every new AAA title without issue on high or ultra quality at QHD reslution.
I originally bought this laptop over a month ago, but the scree was defective. I returned it and was offered to exchange it for another brand, but I specifically chose this laptop for the specs and price. So I received a new one about two weeks ago and I have had no issues with it. Like I said, it is very well built. The fans don't get any louder than any other gaming laptop, and while the i9 runs hot even under light load, the trinity cooling keeps the GPU temperature down pretty well.
If you are in the market for a well built gaming laptop that will last years, this is your machine. I am so happy I didn't go with another brand and exchanged the defective laptop for the same model.
The RAM is on the other side of the motherboard, so replacing or upgrading it is no easy task. 32GB should be good enough for the next few years, so that is not a concern of mine. It also has a free M.2 slot to put another SSD in, so you can expand your storage fairly easily.
The technical specs are something you should look into, such as the full Gen 4 PCI, and resizable BAR support. Some games require that you use the MUX switch, which isn't a problem because if you are going to be playing a AAA game, you will want it in discrete graphics mode anyway.
Overall, I am very happy with this laptop. I have a bad habit of buying laptops and using them for a few months before replacing them This one, on the other hand, is going to be around for years. The components, huge battery, screen, and build quality are all top notch. I have no complaints with this laptop, which is rare for me.
I don't think you can get a better laptop with these specs at this price. Very, very happy with this purchase. I can finally stop buying laptops, for I have found the one that is perfect for me.

This laptop was really needed due to the "death" of my previous laptop which served me well for many years. It was time to move on and after minimal searching, because I needed it sooner than later, I chose the MSI QHD. It performs very well and does what I need it to do. I do, however, find at least one annoying fault and that is with the touchpad. The problem in my case is with its location. It is not located directly under the spacebar but about an inch to the right of it. Because of its location, my right palm sits almost right on it causing me to inadvertently touch it with my palm. This occasionally messes up my typing. Because of this, I have to keep the touchpad disabled. I miss using it but it is more of a hindrance than a help. Otherwise, the laptop works very well, the graphics are great, it is fast, and does what I need it to do. Lastly, I would have preferred to have three USB ports but there are only two, and both are on the left. For me, I could use a third port on the right. I'm not knocking it but just keep that in mind.

This laptop is the best deal for a high end laptop today, hands down. The configuration for the price is top notch, and I am very pleased with it so far. The screen is sharp and colorful and smooth as butter with the 240hz refresh rate. Mine has no light bleed at all. I played Forza 4 for a while, everything to the max, 1440p and locked at 60fps the whole time, barely over 65c. So thermals are great too. Perfect. Its very sleek and modern, lightweight, and all metal. It has a nice texture to it, and the keyboard feels just fine to me. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. This laptop will serve me well for the next few years, and I recommend getting one.

I was looking to replace my Asus GL753VE that I've has since around 2016/17. I wanted something with current/capable hardware that should last me another 5 or so years of my normal heavy use. I found this variant on BestBuy's site and I had to snag one. For the money, this thing is spec'd like a heavy weight fighter against a trainee. I9 with 8 cores giving 16 threads and then you have the GeForce 3070 and then 32GB of system RAM (not a great/fast, but a respectable DDR4-3200 if I recall correctly). I did a lot of price comparing before making my purchase and there wasn't anything out there that compared near the price point (plus it happened to be my birthday and I had a discount from BestBuy which made the price even nicer).
I do have a few pros and cons I have encountered since I got the laptop which are worth mentioning.
1) opening the box and the build quality. When I got the box delivered, I was impressed as it was boxed 3 ways. A nice presentation type box within a normal laptop from the store type box and then put in a BestBuy's box to ship. Short of UPS running over the boxes, there wasn't really any way for the thing to be damaged in transit. On pulling the unit out of the presentation type box, I was rather shocked how much smaller/thinner it is compared to my Asus. It still has some weight to it (feels like an aluminum chassis, but I think at least part of it is coated plastic). The keyboard has a nice feel (some keys laid out in different spots than on the Asus, but to each manufacturer their own). The touch pad is really smooth and responsive. It is off center of the spacebar which takes a bit of getting used to. The only real weakness on the way this thing was spec'd was the amount of storage. Only 1 TB installed. The first thing I did was install a 2TB NVME drive. Easy access to the drives. The cooling system is light years beyond what was in my Asus. For hard drives, I wish there was 3rd m.2 slot, but there is only 2, Finish is a bit of a problem. Be careful if you wear a watch. If the clasp rubs/drags against the front edge, it will scratch the black paint/coating. The damage isn't super noticeable, but I notice it and it irks me.
2) noise. I read reviews that complained about the fan noise. Generally for me under normal use, the fans barely kick in or are audible. when playing RDR2 they definitely kick in, but even at full on, they are still quitter than my Asus ever was
3) heat. For normal stuff this thing is fine. When playing stuff like RDR2 the chassis get very warm (including top of case between screen and F-keys. It's caused by the thinness of the laptop and design. Even though getting warm, it isn't out of control or too bad. I have mine on a laptop riser to draw in more bottom air which helps cool it.
4) Screen. I got the 240Hz QHD variant. Screen has had no issues. Hinges seem to be well designed. The only grumble (and it is minor) has to be opening the screen when closed. I have large hands. The notch for lifting open the screen is a bit thin so it is hard to open some times. This is a minor issue.
5) OS/Software. Only comes with Windows home. It is eligible for Windows 11 and they have drivers on MSI's site for the new OS. My only grumble is that the recovery partition takes up too much space (nearly 30GB). One of the first things I did was completely wipe the drive/partitions and install Windows 11 Pro to get rid of the bloat.
6) general use. I really have no issues with my laptop. MSI's been around for years. Apart from the watch clasp vs finish issue this is nicely put together. Performance is great for the stuff I do and the games I play. Again, this thing was spec'd well above what Asus, Alienware, or the others offered in the same price range. I would buy again in a heartbeat.

The GS76 is essentially an incremental improvement over MSI's 2029 and 2020 Stealth models, but it ticks all the right boxes and the 11ug is priced fairly.
The 99Whr battery is excellent. With Throttlestop and a good power plan (Google is your friend) I can browse the web and do light work for over 10 hours without reaching for my charger.
Gaming performance is excellent, too. New releases like Back 4 Blood and Forza Horizon 5 run locked at 1440p/60 FPS on Ultra settings with very reasonable temperatures. No doubt I could push for much higher framerates if I wanted.
Full-size HDMI 2.0, USB-C with DisplayPort 1.2, and Thunderbolt 4 mean I can connect 3 external monitors and peripherals like a dock and external PCIe enclosure all at once. It powers my old Oculus Rift flawlessly and I suspect newer VR headsets will be well-supported by the Thunderbolt port.
Highlights:
Fairly-priced thin-and-light
Lots of power and ports
Huge battery
Up-firing speakers
MUX switch
Slick, discreet appearance
Motherboard is NOT flipped this year
Caveats:
My screen's backlight is terrible. YMMV
Lacks the newer HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4
Buying from Best Buy means no premium thermal paste/pads to manage heat
MSI's RMA policies can be wicked stingy if something needs repair. Call them first to discuss!

Holy Smokes Guy! You want a great laptop that runs light a beast then look no further! I did upgrade the hard drive to a 980pro 1tb. I will plan on upgrading to 64gb of memory too. I love the keyboard also with multiple color patterns. The keyboard is very quiet and easy to type on. Just like all gaming computers the fans can get loud and computer can get warm. Battery will not last long on a heavy gaming load so be close to an outlet.

Purchased to replace my XPS15. Excellent build quality and the 240hz QHD screen is awesome - much brighter than my Dell. Silent mode is perfect for professional environments. Gaming does require higher fan speeds but not overly loud. I am a university professor so wanted something I could use that would not scream gaming and this has been perfect.

Great performance and power plans that let you cut loose while plugged in or throttle back when on battery. I love the QHD display, it's the sweet spot for a 17" laptop display. I am also using an eGPU with two QHD monitors when using it on my desk. Only thing that detracts is the touchpad sometimes does not register a click when tapping lightly. Works great while playing Microsoft "Crash" Simulator too.

Perfect performance, price, battery, screen, value, portability. Had this item been slightly lighter it would sit just right on my lap. Only quirk I would say is the fn key on the right side. Why!!! I have had this laptop for three weeks now. It checks all the boxes. Its fast. It may get a little warm but it has a cooler boost setting that turns on the fans full blast. It's louder this way but it keeps cool during an hour of heavy gaming. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. I can run Call Of Duty with all settings maxed out and still get around 180 - 200 fps! Good enough for me. I like that I can force the RTX3070 to run everything.
I've read other reviews that complained about the sound quality. Well this is a laptop and not a home stereo system. The sound is just fine, just dont expect it to sound better than your home system. You can always use headphones. I've also read about the brightness of the display being not as bright as other laptops. I don't use my laptop outside in direct sunlight. But inside it is very bright. So much so that I sometimes have to dim it some because its too bright.
To me, this laptop is the best bang for your buck. It is fast, big, not too heavy and fast. Did I mention it's fast? Yeah so if you are looking for a laptop that can handle anything you throw at it, then this is the one.

Purchased this laptop for my son. Was concerned about numerous customer reviews and professional writeups warning of excessive temperatures. However, having now monitored temps while he plays some of the latest games, I can say that much of my concern was unfounded.
The CPU temp will occasionally spike when the system is under extreme load, but the average operating values are well within an acceptable range. The machine fluidly handles AAA games on max settings with CPU temps in the mid-80s and GPU temps about 10 degrees lower. I haven't been able to create excessive temperatures without purposefully stressing the machine. Unless you plan to routinely do something CPU intensive with this laptop, I don't think temperatures are a true concern.
All that said, there are more powerful I9 - RTX 3070 combos to be had. The TGP of this machine is only 95W, leaving plenty of potential performance on the table. But for the price I have not seen another machine that comes equally configured with the same level of build quality, componentry and sleek esthetic that is achieved with this laptop. The GS76 is a good buy.

State-of-the-Art Monster Machine

I'm not a gamer. I'm 72 and a retired management consultant. But I appreciate the world of computing machines and I particularly appreciate machines with enough computing power to crunch through the equations and codecs to handle the demand of graphics and high-density files. So I buy state-of-the-art and get a little ahead of the curve for a short while. When my state-of-the-art machine becomes a dinosaur (in 3-4 or 5 years) I replace it with another state-of-the-art machine. The MSI-GS76 big screen gamer laptop satisfies my requirements. Love the Intel i9. Love the NVIDIA RTX 3070. Love the SSD and all the memory. This is the fastest, most powerful machine I've had the pleasure of owning. I was hoping to dim all the lights in the neighborhood when I first powered up this MSI and was most disappointed when that didn't occur. I may be 72 but I'm still mischievous, no doubt. I'd recommend this laptop to any serious businessperson. It's worth the investment. I'm sure it would satisfy a gamer, too!

The best and most balanced version of the GS76 lineup by far IMHO. Great chassis, slick design, reasonable price when compared to the competition like Razer, Asus, Alienware and etc. Furthermore, it's easy to carry around, and very comfortable to type on unlike something like MacBook 13 with these M1 chips. I could go on and on about how great it is, but you gotta try it yourself to really experience what I'm so happy about.
