Good Choice for GPU Shortage Era ITX Builds

The MSI Mech OC model of the AMD RX 5700 XT is one of those few partner cards that fit in an ITX build. Granted it is on the large end of the spectrum for this role, but it fits in my Thermaltake V1 nicely. As for thermals it is passible. It does run up to 80C under heavy sustained loads but the airflow in my rig isn't as optimized as I would like. Given the ongoing shortage of decent GPU's during COVID finding this in the 375-400 mark makes it a solid deal if you need something right now.

MSI-MECH AMD RADEON XR 7500 XT 8GB and MS FS2020

Here is how to write a review 101, namely, by providing useful, real-world actionable information for decision makers. Bottom line, this MSI-MECH AMD RADEON XR 7500 XT 8Gb video card, some additional RAM, and an SSD C: drive, salvaged my four year old RYZEN 5XXXX based system to play MS FS2020 very well and saved me from buying a new $3,5000 gaming rig. This Radeon XR 7500 XT 8Gb video card (and a couple of other small upgrades) saved me about $3,500 for not having to buy a new gaming rig to run MS FS 2020 at a decent frame rate with MS FS2020 on ULTRA graphics settings. I have a four year old CYBEPOWER 8260 desktop computer which has an AMD RYZEN 5 1400( Quad-Core, 3200Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 logical processors) processor and HAD a Radeon RX 580 4Gb Card , only 8GB of primary RAM, and somehow, I had forgotten that the C: Drive was a typical “platter type” drive. I had to run MS FS2020 on LOW graphic settings because on HIGH or ULTRA the frame rate was so low that landings were about impossible without crashing the aircraft (unfortunately, I did not run FRAPS software to capture the frame rate before installing new hardware, but I would guess the frame rate to have been 7-9 FPS, it was very “choppy”). This new RADEON XR 7500 XT 8Gb video card, combined with adding 32Gb of RAM (quite inexpensive) for a total of 40Gb (interesting the MOBO read the RAM with only 3 of 4 slots filled), and a 2Tb SSD C: drive (had to clone the old one of course to migrate Windows 10 to the new SSD), allows me to run MS FS2020 on ULTRA graphics settings at a very smooth frame rate. FRAPS indicates 19FPS for MS FS 2020 which I am not sure is accurate since the frame rate is so smooth, however, FRAPS is now reporting other games such MS FSX STEAM VERSION at 60FPS and recent GTA offerings at 60-120FPS.

Yeah, it's not an RTX 2080. But you know what, I ran a bevy of benchmarks on it against my friend's 2080 and I was within 5% of his results every single time on every game (specifically we tested Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Division 2 and Metro Exodus). Save yourself some money and buy this. Or wait until 2021 and buy the 3XXX series RTX card or the newest Big Navi AMD card. Your call. But if you're buying today, buy this. You won't regret it.

My temp averages around 58-60 and junction temp maxed at 75 while playing games like forza horizon 4, gta v, and read dead. Average temp on 3dmark time spy was 65. My junction temp reached 95 when i overclocked it with the amd software. Using this gpu on factory settings is more than enough for the games that i play. Just dont overclock it if you dont want to get hot or really loud.

While the card delivers on power on the 8gb dedicated graphics, the card itself is not stable. While playing Monster Hunter World, Soul Caliber 6, and Final Fantasy XV the game stuttered even on high settings that my old 4gb 470rx could handled with 60 Fame-rate. I tried the newest update that rolled out in Jan and recommended drivers from both msi and amd however the card still needs more software updates to be even effective at 1080p at 144hz. Overall that persuaded me to decide to switch the MSI rx5700xt oc to EVGA rtx2060 xc super was the ray tracing feature. You are spending $400 dollars and the amd does not have ray tracing, I originally thought it was a software design however it seems it requires some hardware function as well, with AMD confirming graphic cards that will be developed later at the end of this year will have ray tracing with Navi 2 and Navi 3 gpu processors. In other words, the graphics card will be out dated with the price of a Geforce GTX that will outlast the RX5700 as it has ray tracing that will be furthered implemented in the upcoming games. sources: ray tracing description https://www.techradar.com/news/ray-tracing https://techcrunch.com/2018/08/13/nvidias-new-turing-architecture-is-all-about-real-time-ray-tracing-and-ai/ how ray tracing works https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/266600-nvidias-rtx-promises-real-time-ray-tracing PC WORLD AMD Article March 5,2020 https://www.pcworld.com/article/3530346/amd-talks-pc-gpu-ray-tracing-as-it-looks-to-the-future-of-ryzen-and-radeon.html

So far so good! Runs the game I enjoy playing at 60-90 fps on a 1440p. The game is tarkov which is poorly optimized however it works for what I need it. Only reason for 4/5 stars is the product will be superceded shortly

I have used Radeon gpus for a long time now and the rx 5700 XT is really good. I have had no problem with this gpu other than it being at really high temps but most high end gpus have high temps like this. Overall it is really good if you want to get into gaming with high end settings. I would definitely recommend this gpu

Snagged this for my first build when the realization of the GPU shortage took hold in November. Was disappointed not to get a “new” gen card, but this ended up blowing me away. Handles everything up to 1440p ultra settings like a champ, while streaming/chatting through other interfaces.

This GPU is honestly amazing. It runs smooth paired with my Ryzen 7 3700x. Easily get over 200 FPS on certain settings. This thing is great for the price and the fans keep it nice and cool although sometimes the fans can get a bit noisy but if you play with a headset of course that wont matter at all.

I had bought this as I thought it was a great contender for the 2070 for its price so I loved it, then when I tried to play games at max settings the card would be soooooo loud, it was nearly a 100% fan speed and the temps where still in the 80-85°C range. I ended up returning it and got a 2070 super instead.

Performance is just about what you would expect for a 5700XT. 100+ FPS at 1080 in modern games, 60+ FPS at 1440 at ultra settings. Here is the issue, the fans are incredibly loud and can cause performance to decrease overtime. Loudest GPU I have ever used, not even close.

My XFX 580, which was already replaced once, was failing right when I received it. I used it for a year before I got fed up with the black screens and artifacts. This is a huge upgrade, and it can run every game I play, and it's smooth since I have 144hz freesync monitors.

Great card for $$$. AMD has really improved on drivers, I mainly play Warzone and I get around 100 fps with most settings on high at 1440p. Easy to overclock via Radeon Software but it also overheats quickly, best to stay at stock OC speeds.

Works great this thing is really fast almost or better than a 2070 super the only drawbacks is the Radeon drivers. AMD stated they are working on fixing drivers once they do this is a solid 5 out of 5 stars 164 fps on Ultra on alot of games at 1080p. Paired with a 3700x

The 5700xt is a great card for the price, but MSI’s thermal pad and paste applications on the Mech is not the best. If you’re going to buy this I recommend buying some new thermal pads and paste. Overall it’s great but it gets REALLY hot.

Really great card for the price but you will end up having more issues than anything else. HEAT! issues! I play games at 1440p and the vram keeps hitting 90C + ultimately thermal throttling itself. Ive tried under volting, pushing fans to 80% (sound is unbearable) and nothing has worked. Looked around for water cooling but nothing as of yet or that's feasible to justify the price. I am forced to return this card unfortunately.
