    Wasn't what I expected

Like many other parents, we bought the Nabi 2 because our kids were constantly hijacking the iPad. It became frustrating to constantly enable and disable restrictions, and we wanted them to have their own tablet. I did a fair amount of research before ordering this as a Christmas gift for our kids, and really thought I had chosen a great product. I found awesome reviews and articles everywhere I looked. I purchased it based upon the cost (half the price of another iPad), the safety features, and the positive reviews. During set up we encountered our first problem. Wifi was properly connected, but upon opening certain apps, the tablet would prompt us that we could not access because it was not connected to wifi. I was sent an email notifying me that a system update needed to be done, which included instructions on how to do it. The icon never appeared, and the tablet could not detect an update when I searched for it manually. i reached out to customer service, but got an answering machine at the phone number. I emailed also. Still no response nearly one month later. The screen would periodically flash brighter, and sometimes it would power off, and would not turn back on. If we left it for a while, it would turn on again, but not anymore. We have not been able to use it due to, what seems to be a charging issue, and we can almost never get it to power on. I took to the Internet to look for solutions to our issues, and at that time found all of the negative reviews, sharing all of the same problems we have had. The kids did like the tablet, when it was working properly, but we aren't keeping it. Even if the software and charging issues could be fixed, I am beyond disappointed in Nabi's customer service. At this point, I feel much more comfortable paying more for another iPad2 or an iPad mini, and setting it up solely for my kids to use.

I've been using android for years and am well versed so this should've been a piece of cake. Typical sign up for a Nabi account as a part of the set up of the device, entered my log in and password after signing on to my home network. It takes the info moves on asks a few more questions and again progresses to the next screen but oops I all the sudden don't have a Nabi account. So back to sign up, use the exact same info and sorry that account already exists! Try to log in as an existing user and it worked for a minute. Few more hiccups and it pushed me out to the home screen. NO GOOGLE PLAY STORE?!? nope so now all the kids apps I already own have to be repurchased, very few free apps, and a very small selection at that. Guys don't think this tablet might double as a wife tablet when the kids don't use it. No adult apps, but thanks for mommy mode. So went to buy some software and no dice there due to account issues again, got that cleared then my credit card was not correct, although it was good through setup and was in fact correct. At this point I realized why there's bumpers included with this tablet, and it's not just for the kids. I ignored the app store and account issues for moment and jumped on the browser. Kept loosing my Wifi then reconnecting, so I shut that down. Flipping between home screens even in kid mode was smooth, apps started quickly, and the included games played smooth. Hardware wise I liked the tablet with the exception of the screen. Bad viewing angles and no gorilla glass on a kids tablet boasting ruggedness? So hurry go buy a screen protector? Maybe for you, but I did go back to Best Buy... to return it. Yes a Nexus 7 is more expensive with a case and all, but you get all you apps back, a fully functional tablet with a huge app store, and the software actually works.

Nice package with its rubber cover. It feels very sturdy. We purchased two-one for each child (4 & 6). We had a Kindle fire as our only tablet up until the purchase of the Nabi 2s. I thought it would be good as the boys would have a tablet and I could use it after hours to surf the web and play games. The problem is the only games available are from Nabi. The game selection seams very limited and more expensive than the Amazon app store. Even in Mommy or Daddy mode you cannot acces google play or any other game locations. What is the purpose of the tablet running Android ICS if you cannot utilize it in the parent mode? It may as well of been the LeapPad with games limited by the manufacturer. We have since purchased a Galaxy Tab 2 for my wife and I and will be returning the Nabi 2s for another 1st gen Kindle fire. Then both boys will each have a tablet with a bit more flexibility. Yes, I know your limited with the Fire too. But, it still has many more capabilities than the Nabi 2. Plus there are some real nice heavy duty rubber covers for the Fire now. There are tons of free kid apps for the Fire too. I really wish the Nabi 2 worked out. BTW I think you can install Amazon app store on the Nabi 2 but it takes some work that I don't care to do.

Our kids took to using it like pros like kids do. I found the initial setup to be extremely easy for the parent. I was able to pull down applications from Amazon without much issue, but it would be cool to have the link built into the base choices. The concept of a unit for children was exactly our desire. I would like to have a feature which limits the time of use per day or per week. I would also have loved to manage the units on line such as pushing applications and monitoring what is being used and what is not. To be even more greedy, having an option to add data packages from cell providers like Verizon (with limits) would also have been interesting. The real focus of my review is the screen strength. I think the resolution, brightness and colors are good. We purchased two units for Christmas. One screen cracked four days after being unwrapped on the 25th. I think some Gorilla Glass option would have been better given the target audience of preschool or elementary age children. I had brought it back to the store but was not able to return or exchange the unit due to company policy. Ironically, I was consider paying more for another purchase based on the local store’s post sales support prior to this incident. I am contacting the company and looking into third party options for replacement parts which is a testament to us liking the product. I would not go so far as to recommend it without qualifications.

    Not For My Family

I was between this and an ipad mini for my son. We wanted to get him something for his birthday that would have the educational apps on it like this, but that we could also put movies and tv shows on for him. This tablet makes downloading additional movies and tv shows on to it very difficult. The first problem is that you cannot buy these directly on the tablet. The next problem is getting whatever you have downloaded, and paid for, onto the tablet either with a usb cord or and sd card. Well, I went with the use of an sd card to transfer a few tv shows and a movie for him and they won't play because I bought them through itunes and they cannot be reformatted. I'm not sure where else I was supposed to buy them from and now feel as though I wasted $200 on this tablet (we bought the Disney one) and another $20 on the stuff I just downloaded for him. I really wish I would have known this was going to be a problem when we were shopping for tablets so I could have just spent a little extra money and gotten what would work best for us. Now we have a car ride, flight, layover, another flight and the same back home in a week, as we are getting ready to leave for vacation.

    Nabi/ bad customer service

My daughter got this tablet for Christmas and two months later the screen went out. She is 7 yrs old and is very computer savvy. The reason for own device was that she was occupying all the other family members electronic devices. She has been using computers since she was about 5yrs old and has never mistreated any of them. She did the same for her Nabi and the screen went out after two months. Trying to get customer service to resolve this issue has been a nightmare. They took almost two weeks getting back with me on the issue. Then when I finally talked with them (which I had to contact them again) they said they tried to contact me. Well they also let me know that when they did try to contact me it was almost a week after my initial call to them. And after all this they still want me to pay a discounted fee and plus shipping and handling to send them the broke one which I know is a manufactures defect. I would not recommend this tablet to anyone just because the customer service is so bad.

My 4.5 year old son thinks the games that worked are fun. The few games that worked. However, Fruit Ninja is free on my Iphone and Ipad and he likes those also. Screen has a flicker that goes across every so often. Biggest complaint is that error messages come up and I cannot get any of the educational apps to work??? Sometimes games work, sometimes not? The idea of locking down content for kids is great and a Mommy mode. But if nothing works well that he needs his pseudo-IT dad to be there to keep it running... Sounds like there were a lot of disappointed Christmas Gifts. Fortunately he can play and do educational games on the Ipad until I figure out what to buy. How would my 4 year old figure this out when I am trying to hit OK, Close, OK, Close every 10 seconds to close out error messages. My son has use my wife's Ipad for 6 month and has had virtually 0 issues.

This item was bought as a Christmas gift to our 9 year old daughter. When we were thinking of purchasing this item we had a lot if questions. Two of the most specific questions we had was if our daughter would be able to surf the web and also access the android market/google play store The sales rep. Said we would be able to do both along with access to Netflix and our Comcast account so that she could stream movies and her favorite shows. So we purchased the Nabi along with a gift card to the google play store so that she would be able to get some downloads on Christmas when she opened it. Needless to say she was unable to surf the web, access Comcast, access Netflix or stream movies. The Nabi also does not have the google play store so when our daughter opened it on Christmas she was very upset to find out she couldn't download any apps or games with her google play card. We were so disappointed that she was unable to do any of the things we bought it for we returned it and got her a better tablet for about the same price that she can do everything listed above and more.

I have had to exchange this once already and it goes back tomorrow, only had since christmas. The camera is not really functional as a camera because its lense is on the front so your kid gets to take pictures sure...of them selves..The aps are okbut limited to amazon only. Getting connect to wifi was nt as easy as it should have been seeing as this is a kid use product. Getting onto the internet to go to game sites like club penguin and PBS Kids wasnt doable for my 7 yr old. He couldnt navigate to you tube to watch his animal planet stuff. Had to swap it out the first month because it wouldnt hold a charge. Now its going back because the screen wont come on- I am getting a refun /store credit and getting something else. the headache of dealing with it , and listening to my kid whine about what he cant do on it and that it wont come on is not worth the money - I will be getting him a samsung galxey tablet, and I know I will be less stressed. My child needs this to function he is in the hospital alot and needs to be entertained while waiting- I need something reliable .

We purchased this for our 5yr old & loved the concept of a system that would not allow him to access all apps. We liked that we could control what & when he could use certain apps. Although the case is great for protection, he did not like it because it is very bulky. The battery life was poor, especially when the wifi is turned on. It took forever to charge back up to 100% & used a non-standard mini-usb for charging, like most other android tablets. It had a small flimsy charging cord. We ultimately ended up returning the Nabi 2, because along with the dislikes, we also had technical difficulties with the sound not working on the learning apps & their only source for technical support appeared to be a facebook page. We did get a fast response, and they were very courteous while communicating, but could not figure out how to correct the issue. We ended up purchasing an inexpensive Lenova tablet & purchased a handful of learning apps, which our son is very happy with.

It was great at first. I was a bit disappointed that this tablet did not come with the Play Store as it would have been easier to attach it to my account but this was not a deal breaker as I realized I was able to download the Amazon App Store on it. It has a decent screen and is a nice tablet for a child however, I’ve had a couple of issues with it: one minor that I fixed and one that is major and cannot fix. There were a few bugs with this tablet that were solved with a new update, it took multiple attempts to update the tablet but we got there. The major problem, it will not charge. Well, it charges..sometimes. There is nothing wrong with the charger or charging port. Sometimes when I plug it in it charges, and other times it won’t. Before buying this product, check out the Nabi Facebook page, there have been multiple issues.

run away, run as fast as you can from this product. My kids have had it for a few weeks and they have found a few games that they really enjoy so I am trying to buy the full version, but the Nabi will not let me and tech support is awful. You are directed to a Facebook page where you just have to post your question and pray someone answers you. Also, the music will keep playing even if the Nabi is off, which is a real drain on the battery. The screen freezes all the time and I am always needing to turn it off to reset itself. My kids are 4 and 5, and they learned the basic function of the Nabi easily, I just wish that there weren't so many technical issues that are difficutl to resolve. If I lived closer to a Best Buy (closest one is 4 hours away) I would have returned this product already and bought something different.

I just bought one today. Specifically it is model NABI2-NV7A. The specifications here show 8GB but I only found 4GB (Mommy mode, Settings, Storage). I also only see 4G (with only 3.2 available) when I plug USB cable to my computer and look at what it sees. Another thing is that there is no access to Android Market. There is only the Nabi App Zone. I was really hoping to download several recommended apps for autistic children. No luck with that. There are several YouTube tutorials for getting around this but they all seem to applicable only to eariler versions of Nabi and Android. At this time, I'm really disillusioned. I recommend that any of you who bought same model check the storage you got.

I could not even set it up at all without the help of teenage grand daughter. She found the instructions on the website and that helped. I got frustrated with going to website and clicking through 30 or 40 pages to find specific information that helped. I would be happy to pay for a hard copy of instructions if I knew how to accomplish that. My reason for buying it was because my 5-year old grandson can entertain himself for hours on his adult sister's I Pad. It would also be much easier for me to help him if I felt like I could afford the price of the I Pad, but I can't justify spending that much money on a 5-year old way active boy!!

Bought this for my grandson and he loves it but less than 2 weeks after purchase it stopped working properly. We have to leave it plugged in for him use it and if we unplug it, it may work for a very short while then goes off and we can't turn it back on without plugging it back in. I tried to return it immediately but Best Buy had sold out and the enclosed instructions say NOT TO RETURN IT TO RETAILER, but contact Nabi through Facebook. After months of trying this with absolutely no response we've decided not to recommend or buy another product by Nabi.

    Cracked Screen under 2 weeks

I purchased the Nabi 2 because of all the great reviews. I'm very disappointed because the screen is cracked all the way across and she's barely played with it! It costs $60 for a new screen and I have to go through all the trouble of mailing it in! I talked to the representative at Best Buy and she was so unhelpful. Before I even told her about the problem she asked if I had purchased the Geek Squad protection plan and said if I did not there was nothing to be done if my product was damaged. Very disappointed in Nabi and Best Buy.

I purchased this for my son and the second day of play it constantly froze and then static, white lines covered the screen. I found out that Nabi 2 is having issues on their end with 3rd party servers/processors? This is causing crashes, etc. I will not wait for several months for a fix to their problem, so I returned it and purchased a Kindle fire hd, same price and I didn't have any issues with setup, apps or any distortion of device screen.

The Nabi has been rated high for children; however, it is not kid-friendly. My 8 year old has a Kindle Fire, and it is easier to use. I bought the Nabi for my toddlers because of its durability. It is durable. I have purchased several games; however, they have not downloaded on the Nabi. One day, the entire day, it said it was downloading; but, it never completed the download. I regret not getting the Kindle Fire for my toddlers.

I bought this for my 2 year old son who is used to using my iPad 3. Its not exactly apples to apples given the price points, but when you've used an Apple product, it is hard to go to something else. It was hard for my son to navigate, whereas on the iPad he was able to open up apps and run it by himself. I also had a little trouble using it whenever I had tried to operate it.

I really liked this when we first got it. It was for my daughter and she is 5. She played it for about a week and then for some reason at 2am it went off like a siren and would not turn off. It took maybe 5 min after holding down the on off button. After that I turned it back on and did the same thing.I had to return it and just got the kindle hd. Much better than the Nabi.
