Nakamichi 9.2.4 UK purchase

After reading and watching many reviews online, I had this system imported to the UK. Even with import tax and shipping I feel this systems performance was worth it.
Initially I was a little disappointed with the sound profile but after tweaking every setting again and again I have hit a sweet spot that works for all movies and tv.
As well as streaming Netflix and prime through a fire stick which supports Dolby digital plus, I play blue ray through my PS4 pro for full ATMOS. The system wows guests and I don’t crank up the volume above 30.
Settings are Movie mode, DSP: surround, SSE 2, CR 4, TR 5, B 5, SS 8, SB 8, cross 180. To set that up I played the atmos helicopter demo and adjusted each channel to have equal loudness as the helicopter circles around ( a calibrating microphone like Bose have would be good).
Vocals are clear but with gravitas, bass is strong when required on setting 5. On setting 6 this gives more all round oomph which for me is a little exaggerated but fun when people come round.
Surround is well defined with pin point accuracy.
Atmos SSE effects really seem to widen the sound stage and create an enveloping effect. You can no longer pinpoint the surround speakers although I can’t say sound appears to come from above.
It’s good that an App is not required to set up the system. Just plug it in and away you go.
I do have some issues with popping and there is a setting to negate this but it hasn’t worked for me. The irritation is minor I don’t mind and nobody else seems to notice it.
All in all a great system. I would highly recommend it.

I replaced my aging 7.1 DTS System with the Nakamichi Shockwafe 9.2.4 system and am very pleased at the sound quality of this system. I needed to reclaim some space in my living room and wanted Dolby Atmos along with DTS without breaking the bank. This system fills my room as well as my old system however there are a few caveats that keep it from 5 stars.
1.) The equalizer options are very thin with this system and could use expansion. If you are a Hard Core audiophile this is a major con with this system. I am OK with the options and sound quality so it is a small con for me
2.) Unless you have a Harmony remote or other means of controlling your connections it does not play well with TV's like my Samsung where I controlled everything with my samsung remote. To get Dolby Atmos and DTS you have to connect to the three HDMI ports on the soundbar and use the Nakamichi remote to switch inputs and use individual remotes if you do not have a means to control everything.
3.) The 5Ghz channel to the wireless subwoofers is not configurable. If you have a mesh wireless system that you cannot change the 5Ghz backhaul or change to wired backhaul you might have issues with popping in the satellite speakers due to interference. The Netgear Orbi system I have RB20 will not play well with the Nakamichi. For anyone who has an Orbi system the following is what I have discovered in my case to get the least popping during audio with my RB20:
You must configure to router mode and not AP mode
Turn off Daisy-chain topology
From browser go to the router's debug page (http://192.168.1.1/debug.htm). Use your router's IP address or http://orbilogin.com/debug.htm
Enter admin as user name and your router’s management password
Tick "Enable Telnet" option
Use Putty or another telnet client to connect
Use Telnet from a computer attached to Orbi to connect to your Router telnet 192.168.1.1 and enter admin and the same password as above
Enter the following commands:
To read the existing backhaul channel: config get wla_hidden_channel
Channel cannot be between 144 - 165
To change the channel to e.g. channel 128: config set wla_hidden_channel=128
To save the new channel setting: config commit
Change 2.4Ghz to Channel 11
Change 5Ghz Channel to 48
Reboot router
This works with 1 to 2 pops every 10 minutes but they are still there and the router can change the setting back to 157 randomly. I need to replace the Orbi system anyway and this is not a huge con for me it just was unexpected.
4.) The RCA cables for the satellite speakers could have been of better quality.
5.) If you have devices connected to the TV there is a delay that causes lip sync issues that can be adjusted from the remote however it just did not seem perfect.
With that out of the way if you are still reading here are the Pros of this system.
1.) It fills the room with sound even at low volumes. It does not have the power of my old 7.1 system with a 12" subwoofer however it is more than enough. The dual 10" subwoofers make it so the bass is throughout the room and not in one area like a single sub system for a theater like experience. This system sounds like a modular system with a smaller footprint.
2.) Easy to setup! It takes as long to unpack as it does to setup. That does not include tuning it to your taste, speaker placement, updating firmware, setting up SSE room size, and mounting speakers. I setup the bar first and powered it on and then brought each subwoofer and satellites on one by one. I wanted to make sure everything was functional and there was no defective equipment.
3.) You can update firmware via USB and there is a USB stick provided you can use if you are not comfortable with meeting the specifications of the USB drive. One of the first things you will want to do is update the firmware.
4.) Dolby Atmos is implemented really well with this system. There is a demo disc provided you can use to adjust speaker levels and experience what the system can do. Just make sure your Dolby Atmos devices are connected directly to the HDMI ports on the soundbar and you use the HDMI cable provided to connect to your HDMI ARC port. If you do not have an ARC port and have to use optical or a coaxial connection you will not get Dolby Atmos or DTS sound. Make sure you have CEC enabled on the ARC port only and not on the devices connected to the soundbar. There are different ways you can mount the speakers to get the best Dolby Atmos sound for your environment. These configurations are explained in the included manual. The D ( direct ) button on the remote changes the surround mode and with non Atmos or DTS source the Dolby Surround option ( default ) is the best of the options for most things except music to Hard Core Audiophiles.
5.) Price for features and sound quality is unmatched. This system sounds better that others that cost way more IMO.
Overall I am very satisfied with this system and it adds a great movie and gaming experience to my living room with a way smaller footprint than my previous system. If there is a store that has a demo unit I highly recommend you take a listen and compare. I think this system will surprise you and it will sell itself! It might not look like it from my review however the pros greatly outweigh the cons.

I was skeptical at forst simce I never heard of the name Nakamichi before. I did some in depth research and had reliased it has many good specs and features. This is a quality surround sound system. This sound system does not requirens receiver which takes a lot of the wires away and connections. It connects sub woofers via bluetooth, which actually sound real good. Dual sub is the way to go, although single would be sufficient for small space, but I have a mini home theater along with projector. My dog freaks out when she hears different sounds from different speakers, she turns her head where she hears the sound. Its a good indication of the surround sound and its precision sound. Dolby Atmos makes a huge difference too in quality sound. You also get updates on firmware for improvements in sound processesing. Only minor problem I can think of is that it takes a few seconds for sound to begin when you begin to play media such as a movie or music. It takes a little bit of learning to understand all features and how to best use it, but once you understand how to use it, you can maximise your sound to how you like it.

I shopped around for a long time and tried more than a few soundbar systems. I took all of them back and got refunds because they just weren't the best sounding. I expected a lot more for the pricing. Most didnt have clarity or enough bass. When I got this system, and powered it on. I was totally shocked. I couldn't believe the power, the clarity, and the bass that it produced. The system makes all the others I tried seem like old living room 70's or 80's hifi sets. No kidding! They are just that good. I have yet to understand and use all of the functions and settings, but I'm really enjoying everything about them. One would have to search far and wide to find a greater soundbar system. Let me add that the price of this soundbar system is very economical compared to others of this extreme high quality. I highly recommend this product. I needed to do some fi e tuning with speaker placement and such, and that gave me a chance to experience their friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable customer service. Great people!!

After using this for about a month, I can say without a doubt this is the best sound system I've ever owned.
The bass alone is worth the money, its dual subs so powerful I usually only use at half power before shaking the poster frames off the wall!
The surround sound speakers add an incredible amount of depth to any movie, giving rain, bullets and dialogue all around you. What is even better is that it comes with dolby atmos and DTS:X pre Installed so there is no download required!
Perfect example: watch godzilla king of the monsters with dolby atmos engaged. You will feel like you are in the battle!
Dont hesitate..... get this system!

Upgraded from lg sn7r and i gotta say this system decimated my lg. Everything is louder clearer and with 2 subwoofers, you feel everything from the movie. So far there has not been a problem so i am haopy with that. Setup is really easy, basically plug and play. I am a 4k blu ray addict so i only use my nakamichi 9.2.4 for 4k blu rays. Look at my pictures and tell me I'm not an addict. My setup is with an 82" samsung tv with sony 4k blu ray player in the garage. Neighbors dont mind how loud i play my movies so i am pretty fortunate there, because this system will blow my socks off. You have to try it and listen to it to understand me . Sounds are circling around you and flying from above. Its like my garage ceiling is crashing down crumbling, i freak out everytime. So to end this review, i shall remind you that you have to listen to this beast of a system in order to understand the words that are coming out of my mouth.

This an an amazing sound system! I am thoroughly impressed with the Nakamichi 9.2.4. I spent many months going through reviews of different systems and this one always came back with extremely positive reviews. Sound is very clear and as a whole the system can get very loud. I use it in a small room (roughly 12' by 12') and rarely go above a volume of 20. The double woofers help keep an even distribution of bass. The center and front L and R channels are very clear. I have the 4 surrounds set up in dipole and everything sounds great. You still get very nice rear and side effects from dipole, so don't be afraid to get this system if you have a smaller room. Since my room is so small, I had to turn the surround speakers much lower than the stock settings (practically the lowest settings--R: -3, L: -3 and side and back surrounds at 1 or 2 out of 10), likely due to them being in dipole and roughly 5 feet away from the listener. I was nervous when I first got the system because the sound stage didn't sound balanced. Low and behold, I had to really turn down the surrounds much lower than I thought to get a well balanced sound. As for the Atmos, I am very impressed. I was coming from a Vizio 3.1.2 soundbar which was quite good, but a proper Atmos system needs those back channels (at a minimum 5.1.4). I was skeptical of the Atmos capabilities of this system due to it not having upfiring speakers, however, with proper placement of surround channels (lower speaker at ear level, and upper tweeter above ear level) the height effects are impressive. It really does create a nice sound bubble when listening to proper and well mixed Atmos content. You can really notice the Atmos in movie scenes with helicopters or thunder above your head. It really sounds like it's coming from the ceiling. My biggest tip if you get this system (and you should), is really take your time adjusting the speaker levels (L,C,R,bass, surrounds) so that they are all appropriately balanced. And, test out the 3 different SSE and room size settings. Those really make a difference depending on your room size. If I had not properly tuned this system, I would have been not as impressed. But, I am very happy with the performance now that I have everything tweaked to perfection. Also, music sounds amazing on this thing. People who say its too bass heavy just haven't adjusted their bass settings well enough. Music from my record player and Bluetooth sound especially good on the All Channel Stereo mode. I had some wifi interference with the subs during initial setup. Make sure to install the newest firmware before doing anything. With the new update, I turned on the wifi interference setting and it fixed all my issues. This system overall deserves 5 stars all around. Great job Nakamichi!

The sound is beyond amazing! The DSP makes it as if you're on stage during a live performance. The bass is a deep thunder which is more felt than heard. While the input signal from a Dolby signal is awesome, it even performs its magic on a straight stereo input. Distortion free even at high volume. My Dad came over to hear the new system He liked it so much he ditched his onkyo system and bought the nakamichi 9.2.4 system. He really liked the simplicity of the system and finds it soo much easier to control over the old system. The customer service is hands down one of the best to deal with. If you are looking for quality and 5 star service go with the Nakamichi you just can’t go wrong.

This is the best surround sound you can ever pay for your money. The quality of sound from the Dolby Atmos channels is for the books.
Plus the easy setup on the speakers to the woofers. At first I was intimidated by the instruction till i read it and than it became simple. I'm truly happy with my purchase.

I am very impressed with this surround system. The bass from the TWO subwoofers is amazing yet the speakers take up very little room. The sound bar puts out clear vocals from any spot in my living room. The surrounds had me looking around during movies amazed at the quality. Connects easily via hdmi to my tv and Roku streamer. Roku remote controls volume on the surround without issues. You won’t be disappointed with this purchase.

After a year of research. It came down to this Nakamichi 9.2.4 Soundbar and the Samsung Q90r. I choose the Nakamichi and have not regretted it. The sound is loud and clear. Set up up is simple. The two 10 inch subwoofers produce some heavy base. All together a well put together package. If there is a Con. Its the remote. You have to point it directly at the sound bar to change volume and input. No big deal.

I bought this and ended up returning it. I have a 7.1.4 in my theater, but thought this would be an upgrade for my living room.
It’s a pretty good sound bar system, the best part about it is the 2 10” subs that provide incredible bass. The other good thing about it is that it has a bunch of HDMI inputs and handles all your devices as a receiver would.
Now, the reason I returned it and the downside. There’s a delay with the audio decoding every time a new signal is sent to the sound bar. Example: I was playing Kong: Skull Island to demo and it takes a good 1-2 seconds to accept the signal and play the audio. I read the manual and they mention that since it’s processing so much data at once, there will be a delay with the audio coming through. It’s really strange and annoying. There should be a way to buffer everything all at once and then play. If you all know how Kong Skull Island starts, (planes shooting and flying overhead as soon as the movie starts) then you’ll know why this is annoying.
The other downside and dealbreaker was that the system isn’t a real 9.2.4. The rear and side speakers do not have upfiring tweeters. They are a 2 way speaker and to get the Atmos effect, you have to position the actual speaker to point at the ceiling. This is done by placing the speaker on its side and pointing it upwards. To get 9.2.4, the manual states to put it in a hybrid mode so half the sound goes up and half the sound towards the listener. But doing this produces the same exact sound as height/side and rear height/rear. I could have done 7.2.2, with rears level and sides as height, but the audio delay thing got really annoying.
It’s a really awesome direction for subwoofers to go in, especially adding 2 subwoofers. It needs a little more refinement. Better processor and upfiring tweeters in the speakers. And they should make them all black for the sides and rear.
Anyway, that’s my take on it. If you’re gonna rock just a 9.2, this is pretty awesome, but don’t expect great Atmos.

I'm usually the type of person to overthink my purchases and then still get buyer's remorse after the fact. In fact I can count on one hand the amount of purchases where I didn't have some small doubt I made the right decision within the past 3 years lol.
Thankfully, this Nakamichi 9.2.4 ultra setup is one of those purchases. It sounds loud and crisp at high volumes it makes me want to listen to everything in surround sound. But, honestly its ridiculously loud. to the point I don't go past 24 while watching most normal programming. the Atmos feature to me is pretty cool, we were watching Black Summer and you could feel the jets overhead in the begging and hear people screaming faintly in the distance from specific directions. We watched V Wars and I swear there was a part where I thought someone was outside our apartment turning a ratchet until I looked up and the scene had a guy working under a car behind the character.
there is tons of customization to make the setup sound perfect for your specific room. it even comes with all the hardware to do wall mounting. I haven't experienced too much lag when switching content but I use hdmi and the arc port on my tv. So far I have the firestick 4k and ps4 connected through the nakamichi and it all works flawlessly. I also have a GE75 Raider 9sg gaming laptop that I connect to it sometimes and it works perfectly with that too. I cant recommend it enough. This thing is a monster and getting it on sale was icing on the cake.

I was watching online and thinking about the purchase of this Nakamichi Shockwafe 9.2 for a long time. I had an old Bose Lifestyle 5 with the double cube speakers from 1997 hooked up to my Vizio TV and it sounded awesome. When I recently purchased a new 85" Sony TV with Dolby Atmos and all the goodies for sound my old Bose just wasn't as pleasing anymore. I started looking around at Best Buy and first bought a Polk Audio MagniFi Max SR and even though it sounded fantastic, having no Dolby Atmos I just wasn't that happy. I am now using it on my 2 year old Vizio TV and it sounds super. Anyway back to the Nakamichi. Had it delivered and goodness! What a big, heavy box (due to the 2 subwoofers) so I suggest if you are a small person like myself be sure to have some help getting it in the house. The outer box had some damage from shipping but the inside foam did a fine job of protecting the contents. Nakamichi includes a good sized paper instruction manual plus a large set up display sheet to help you get the best sound for your particular needs. I had ordered 4 recommended Atlantic speaker stands and once they were all assembled it was a breeze getting the sound system going. They do include wall mounting hardware for the speakers as well. Included in the box is a Demo DVD and that was the first thing I listened to. I was completely blown away by the sound, especially the 747 jet demo. It literally flew right over my head!! I do want to mention that I have a one-sided vaulted ceiling and honestly folks, if you don't feel you should buy this because you have a vaulted ceiling, think again. That was one reason I couldn't be sure of the purchase to start with due to reading reviews about ceiling height being so important. Well in my case it has made absolutely NO difference because I couldn't ask for a better sounding system. The floors are shaking and those 2 subs make all the difference in the world for bass. I have been able to clearly hear voices with nothing overpowering them. If you happen to have a lip sync issue (I haven't) on the remote there is a setting to adjust that as well. You can also pick from 3 different room sizes and I am using the large. I did purchase some better insulated cables to run from the speakers to the subs because I didn't care for the thin cables supplied (the only negative thing I can say about the system). Be sure to get the RCA right angle cables on one end that go into the speakers. I have had NO popping, interference noises or anything else in spite of owning a Mesh wireless router system which I heard can cause trouble. The cables must make a big difference. The remote control is rather confusing at first but if you read the manual it will explain what each button is for plus I love that it's backlit. I have now talked my best friend into buying this Nakamichi - yes, that's how superb this outfit is! I have had a number of sound systems over the years - from your typical 5.1, 7.1 receiver with speakers, other sound bars and now this. Believe me when I say you will not find a better setup ANYWHERE in my personal opinion. I am SO very content with my purchase. I didn't even wait for a sale and I'm still happy! Are you hesitating like I was? WELL DON'T! Just buy it ~ on sale or not!! I highly recommend to anyone that wants OUTRAGEOUSLY SUPERB SOUND because this Nakamichi IS IT!!! You'll never look back!
