I recently upgraded to this Nakamichi soundbard from my older LG sound bar/surround system.
Pros: Power. At 1000 watts you have plenty of power to make the audio loid but clear. Surround. The surrou d affects with the 2 subwoofers and 4 surround speakers are phenominal. Dialogue. The system overall seems to be more emphasized on the mid channel, so dialogue and voiceing is very clear. Price. Home theater systems with audio recievers and multiple speakers running to the reciever is the pinnacle. The Nakamichi surround system is as close to that experience as you can get but for much less.
Cons: Upward firing. You can mount the speakers so they fire ip and bounce off the ceiling and back to you. I however didnt notice a difference. Mounting Hardware. Kudos to Nakamich for even bothering to include mounting hardware! Most companies wouldnt so good on them there. I however didnt like the mounting hardware and chose to do stands. Looks. I prefer the more refined look of the Klipsch, Sonos or Bise systems (even my LG was more smooth and 'refined'). This is more like sci-fi with lits of edges and corners. Might be hard to make look good in a living space.
For me, the cons arent bad enough to deter me from enjoying this bar. It sounds great with movies and video games and im happy that I made the purchase. The price is really not bad when you consider ehat you are getting.

This sound bar can out perform even more expensive sound bars. You do need to take the time to setup the system to your liking and learn when and how to adjust it. Do your research, You Tube is a great resource, but Google is also helpful. Hook-up your streaming devices directly to the sound bar, and the ARC to the TV. This sound bar is HDCP 2.2 capable, but does not have eARC. This limitation is resolved by having 3 HDMI input ports for your devices. This give you the best sound the system can produce. Learn the remote and read the back of it. Have fun and enjoy 1000 watts of fantastic sound!

Never heard of Nakamichi before lot of online reviews had good thing to say. I was looking for a simple setup. I am not audiophile but wanted good sound. This system blew me away with quality of sound, effects and ease of use. Remote has separate buttons for Dolby, clear voice and game. Along with power button, different sound modes are the only ones I use. Setup is super simple and ease of use for simpleton like me is fantastic. I didn’t want to come home and fiddle with bunch of settings to get good sound. This is the one I was looking for. Two subwoofers gives the theatre effect. Never going back to one again. If you want your heart beating faster and be one with what you are watching, this is the one.

Best sound-bar and surround system I have bought! My house literally thumps if I want it too! I keep the volume around 18-20 but just to let you know how beasty this system is…it goes up to 100. I believe this system will beat many other systems in the future as well. Would recommend to everyone who wants the best surround system.

I need to start off by stating that I've compared numerous systems and this one is definitely very good. I've compared it to systems including Vizio Elevate, Sonos Arc, and Samsunq Q950; this review is based on these tests.
Let's start with setting it up. It's a very easy system to set up. Everything's in the box, including cables, mounting hardware, etc. The soundbar gets connected to the TV via your preferred method (obviously should be using ARC, but it's got an optical port if you're so inclined). The subs can be positioned anywhere in the room provided the power cable reaches the outlet. The four surround speakers then get connected to the subs via RCA cables. The subs are labeled left/right; the speakers are labeled as side left, side right, rear left, rear right. Just follow the labels.
The surround speakers do not need AC mains connections, just the subs.
Pros
-It is the undisputed king of the hill for bass. The system comes with two huge (10") downward-firing subwoofers. There's nothing else that even comes close. Paired Sonos Gen 3s are decent, but they can't match it. Samsung's single 8.5" sub? Don't make me laugh. The subs aren't just powerful, they have good definition to the sound...they're the best.
-The surround speaker setup is also very good. The fact that it has 4 speakers instead of the two in every other system means that you're going to get a much more immersive experience, especially with Dolby Atmos. The speakers themselves aren't quite as good as Sonos, but the fact that this system supports four and other systems only allow two make it the best for movies.
-Connectivity: The back of this soundbar is like a swiss army knife of ports. This thing has 3 HDMI inputs, of course an HDMI-ARC output to the TV, an optical port, even a 3.5mm headlight jack if you want. It also pairs very easily with Bluetooth.
Cons
-The soundbar in the system might generously be called subpar. In particular, the center channel (responsible for speech) is pretty bad. The mid-range is virtually non-existent. As a result, voices sound very thin, almost like they've been excessively filtered and compressed. For the keystone component in a system like this, it is NOT GOOD. When you're watching a movie with a lot of surround it will get covered a bit by the awesome subs and surrounds, but when watching TV it's going to be hitting you non-stop.
-If you have a preference for wireless systems, the 4 long RCA cables connecting the subs to the surrounds are going to be an annoyance.
-There's no app, but the remote is very good so this might not be a big deal.
If you're looking for a great home theater for movies, this is the one, but it's not great for TV or music because of the bar. Nakamichi needs to significantly improve the soundbar performance, especially the center channel. Otherwise, it's just a matter of time before someone who makes a good soundbar (Sonos most likely) creates a surround/sub setup that can compete with Nakamichi's.
TL;DR the Nakamichi Shockwafe is by far the best option for the back and sides of your setup, but one of the worst for the front.

This is a great system. The sound is great and fills up the room. The sound from the rear and side speakers is full also. It's easy to hook up and comes with a giant card board instruction card which helps a lot. The sound sounds like it's coming from behind you, from besides you, in front of you and all over. It will enhance your TV viewing tremendously. I have a Samsung Q80 65" TV and it just adds what it was missing, tremendous room filling sound. Just a reference, I had a Q90 Samsung soundbar and this one blows it away in every respect (especially volumn from the rear speakers).
Aside from what some other people have mentioned, there are adjustments for the volume for the front bar, rear speakers, side speakers and base. The instructions which come with the bar and that are on their web site have show how to set up the source (fire TV, Samsung TV, X box, Roku) as far as where to connect it and the settings on each for the best sound.
The only problem I have had with this is that sometimes the sound just stopped. That was when I fast forwarded my UVerse box to skip commercials. The sound would usually come back, but sometimes it didn't. I exchanged my soundbar at Best buy (they were great), but the problem has happened again at times. The solution I found as to unplug the TV, Uverse and plug them back in, resetting the unit. This worked fine. The wonderful sound more than compensated for this minor inconvenience.
I wish the rear speakers were wireless though, but I am lucky as I was able to hide the wires under my rug. Even if they were wireless, you would still have to plug them into a wall socket so en effect they would not be totally wireless.
Did I say that the volume from the side and rear speakers is very good so you do get that real surround feeling.
If I had a do-over, I would still purchase this system and from Bestbuy.

Excellent value for the price, sounds phenomenal. For someone who has never owned a higher end sound system like this before the set-up and massive amount of custom configuration options may be overwhelming at first. Once you get used to the freedom and control you get with this setup you'll have a ton of fun customizing your listening experience though, trust me. It's actually a lot easier than it seems at first glance.
Ultimately, going from a standalone Insignia soundbar to this was probably the best choice I made in my home theater set-up; well worth the money, would make the same choice ten times over.

Immersive and Powerful

With so many sound bars and speakers in the market with claims on delivering Dolby Atmos, I wish I had come across the Nakamichi 9.2.4 a lot sooner. This blows away the competition. I could have purchased more UHD 4k Blu-ray movies rather than on speakers and sound bars which claimed to deliver Atmos, however, failed to deliver in execution. Unfortunately, none of those devices could come close to the level of sound and performance of the Nakamichi. Now, with each new release either via digital or 4k physical media, the Nakamichi makes each new release sound incredibly immersive and old titles will be replayed to discover how incredible these movies actually do sound with the right system. The Nakamichi literally places you in the middle of the action. The added feature of SSE spatial sound assures the best sound produced with regards to the size of your room. I highly recommend the Nakamichi for those who want movie sounding experience as close to the theatre.

The bass here is incredible. The sound is equally outstanding. Very easy to set up and use. The speaker sets can each be adjusted individually allowing powerful tweaking options for the audio. The speakers also do an excellent job of upmixing content that isn’t the highest quality if that’s your jam.
As mentioned in some other reviews, the remote could be better.

I love my Nakamichi soundbar system. The quality of sound for both music and movies is exceptional. The power and warm even bass from 2 10 inch subs is incredible. A few minor critiques. First, the soundbar does seem to lose the arc/cec connection allowing the tv remote to control the volume for seemingly no reason. I have it hooked up to a Vizio tv, so maybe it is a brand issue. The remote has a ton of adjustments you can make, this is a positive, but hard to judge where to finally position each setting without writing each one down and then working from there to equalize the system to your taste. I have found the movies setting does a great job for most movies. The music setting does well for high end recordings and music, but pop, r&b, new country and others will need adjustments from song to song. However, with that all said, this system is incredible! I have listened to $5,000-$15,000 stereo systems that didn't sound as good. I highly recommend this product. My setup is in a mid sized room with vaulted ceilings, I do get some atmos like sounds with the sse turned up. I also use the dipole setup which accommodates my room setup better. Overall I say go get this system and blow your family, friends and yourself away!!

I've owned many soundbars in the past, and an actual 7.1 home theater system in a previous home. I was in search for a system that had Atmos and Dolby Vision pass-through. I was skeptical about Atmos soundbars not delivering actual height effects since I have heard real Atmos systems with actual ceiling speakers. However, I wanted a system without running wires inside walls and all around the room.
I decided to give the 9.2.4 a shot, and it was worth it! It sounded fantastic! Height effect is there, clarity is great and the dual subs are fantastic.
It obviously can't beat a high end A/V system, but it is definitely the best soundbar I have heard. Hate to call it a soundbar, because it is actually a sound system.
A couple negatives are that it takes a sometime to tweak with the settings to get accurate sound. It has modes for different rooms sizes, which helps, but it can't beat an actual A/V receiver calibration.
Once adjusted correctly, it sounds fantastic. Overall, would definitely recommend if someone is looking Atmos sound without the hassle.

This system sounds incredible. It doesn’t even sound like a sound bar it sounds like a top tier home theater system. Watched Mission Impossible Fallout last night in 4K and I could literally hear the helicopters swirling around me and feel the bass of the gunfire and explosions rumbling my couch. Setup was easy. There is a minor 3 to 4 second delay when starting a movie or changing a channel for the sound to kick in, but it’s not a deal breaker for me. Very pleased with my purchase.

I went through the high-end Samsung, Sony, and LG soundbar, before I settled for this Beast. There are no other soundbar systems in the market that have 2 subwoofers and 4 satellite speakers anywhere near the price of this Nakamichi 9.2.4 system. Not everyone want's a plug and play system. This system allows you the choice of plug and play, or the ability to change the way you like to hear your system. This isn't perfect, but it did not beat a system worth 3 times as much at CES by luck. I have contacted customer support on a couple of occasions, via email and they responded promptly. If you like to feel your movies, instead of just hearing them, then this is the system for you. I wish that more Best Buy stores would show these soundbars in their Magnolia room, they would definitely sell a lot more of them.

Easy to set up and the sound, especially the sub-woofer base, is pounding even at low volume levels. With this surround sound system even watching videos we have seen before is a new experience. A re-watch of 1917 brought that thought home, when the bi-planes flew over the main characters. Both my wife and I looked up when they did.

Really good sound. There is very little to complain about. It sounds like you are at the theater. So much bass and the clarity is amazing.
The only drawbacks are there is no hdmi 2.1 so you must bypass the system and directly plug into tv if you have the new consoles.
The other annoyance is updating. Make sure you always do a hard reset after an update. Doing a soft reset won’t cut it. I had buzzing issues after my last update/soft reset.
These are small prices to pay for the level of quality you get with this system and at a fraction of the cost of other high end systems.
Very easy first time setup.

I've been eyeing this system for awhile but couldn't afford to pull the trigger on it at its regular price. But when it was on sale just before Black Friday, I knew I had to get it. Having extensively researched the best sound bars in the industry offering Dolby Atmos and Dts X, the Nakamichi usually seems to come out on top with combinations of power, sound, value, and etc. Not having a dedicated space for a true avr system, a soundbar system was the way to go for me.
This system sounds great! And that's an understatement since I've only had it at volume 20 at its max when playing Atmos content! The ability to customize the surround speaker setup based on your room shape/size is a bonus since it allows you to achieve the best surround effect. The included Atmos disk really showcases the capability of this system. It's easy to use and responsive when changing inputs from the various media devices connected to it. This is a highly recommended system for anyone not having the budget or space for a true surround setup, but still want true theater sound in their home. It's safe to say I'll be enjoying this system for years to come.

I was looking for a sound system that I could pair with my 82” TV that would make me feel like I was at the Movies.I found it here. I’m really enjoying my nights at the movies in my living room. I had Geek Squad set it all up , which went great. They came the day before set up to do a site survey. That extra step helped in the installation. They mapped out where the speakers would be set up and came prepared with all the extra stuff they would need to do the job right. They did a complete sound check to make sure all peripherals worked. The DVD player, game systems, satellite, Apple TV , Amazon Tv etc. THE SOUND IS AMAZING! I’m so very pleased, the sound is great at a low volume too for late nights when others are sleeping which is a great plus. Absolutely love the double sub woofers and surround sound. I like my seat to rumble during action scenes! Movies like Star Wars, Jumanji and the like are awesome with this sound. It’s a real listening pleasure and takes my TV to the next level.I’m not an expert audiophile but I know good sound when I hear it.Highly recommend!

I'm very satisfied overall with this set. This sound bar set is nearly as good as an actual professional Surround system, and for half the price too.
Watching films is very immersive, especially in Atmos mode. The two subwoofers definitely makes a big difference in quality
My only real complaint is the crappy remote. It stopped working after just one month of use. I have ordered a replacement remote, and hopefully it will work properly this time. Still, a minor bummer that prevents me from giving this otherwise excellent set 5 stars.
