However, the android app is buggy and makes it really hard to control lights. These lights are not Alexa or Smartthings direct compatible. On the product itself, the lights get really warm, which could be a problem if you are planning to put them in a place where you could touch them accidentally. Even in office, it emits a lot of heat, something you probably don't want sitting right next to it for a long duration of time.

Great ambient lighting!

Integration was very easy as well, connected to both Nanoleaf app and Apple Home Kit.

After years of use with our Phillips Hue strips and bulbs I was curious of Nanoleaf and it's hub-less system. I can safely say that the Nanoleaf essentials light strip is unfortunately all hype. The strips colors lack the depth of Hue, the app is exceedingly difficult to use and lacks many of the features of its competitors. Even with our mesh wifi network the lights lag and frequently don't respond to automation. Several times we have had to turn it off by hand as the Nanoleaf app fails to respond and it's integration into the apple home app is troubled at best. I purchased it on Christmas sales and even at 1/3 of the price of Hue I'd still discourage others from buying it. Clearly the company is a marketing success but it's products fail to meet even the basics of smart lighting functions.

My google home is sup to be able to be used as a thread router but I've been in contact with both google and nanoleaf neither were of any help.

Our Nanoleaf - Essentials Smart LED Lightstrip Starter Kit is supposed to be Thread enabled - meaning it can work with Thread under certain conditions. A Thread Border Router allows your Essentials and other Thread products to communicate with your WiFi-enabled devices. We offer Thread Border Routing in our Nanoleaf Shapes, Nanoleaf Lines and Elements controllers, or you can use a compatible border router from one of our partners. As for the Matter-enabled devices, their release is on the works already and announcements for their release will be coming out real soon!
