The only thing that works is the adhesives
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are awful, worked on and off constantly throughout set up, stopping at random times. Then when I decided to take them down due to not syncing over and over, the adhesive tore paint and drywall off my wall, which is gonna have to be repaired now. I absolutely couldn’t recommend these less, just buy light strips. Stay away from Nanoleaf

If you have android, don't get these.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If I could give these zero stars I would. Don't be like me, check the app reviews before purchasing these. I spent over an hour trying to get these setup and paired properly. I tried the QR code, NFC, and manually pairing them with both my S20+ and my wife's. Our wifi was the recommended 2.4 Ghz with well over 200 mbps. They turned green and stayed green. I also did several hard and soft resets and made sure the firmware was up to date. Over an hour of my life gone just to give up and return it back to the store.

Even More Fun Than Expected
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.LED mood lighting is all the rage these days, from the LED light strips popular with TikTokers to the full range of LED lightbulbs integrated into the modern smart home. I have long used “smart” LED bulbs in my light fixtures to enable dimming, but these are simple white bulbs, no color. Having tried a few multicolor light bulbs I came away unimpressed, not seeing the practical use beyond a fun party trick. Now having tried the Nanoleaf Shapes, I am converted. These multicolor LED panels are possibly the most fun I’ve had with lighting in a long time, and are well-worth the investment for a few reasons. First, the ease of use: installing Nanoleaf is more complex than screwing in a lightbulb, but surprisingly easy for something so flexible. The Nanoleaf app guides you through the process, offering the critical layout exploring tool that gives you the ability to preview your chosen Nanoleaf layout on your phone and, if you’ve a compatible smartphone, on your wall in AR. This worked particularly well for me on my newer iPad Pro with LIDAR sensor, which was able to quickly display a layout on the wall. I was able to get a layout preview on my older iPhone as well, though it took more finagling. After choosing a layout and a location on the wall, you attach double-sided sticky pads to each shape, snap in the connector pieces, and start placing them on the wall. I learned right away it’s critical to make sure you attach the connector pieces properly before attaching each shape to the wall, but thankfully the mounting plates on the back of each shape snap on and off so if you forget, you can snap a piece off the wall without removing the adhesive. Once I’d decided on my layout the Shapes were installed on my wall in a matter of minutes. Plugging in the Shapes and syncing them with the Nanoleaf app was a cinch, very straightforward and without any hiccups (not always the case for smart home gadgets). Nanoleaf integrated right away with Siri and HomeKit, and with a few clicks was linked to my Google Home as well. Nanoleaf includes a variety of pre-made scenes in the app to get you started with Shapes. You simply click on a scene and it starts playing on your Nanoleaf setup immediately. Scenes include rotating colors designed to mimic nature, as well as feelings like calm or active. My personal favorite is the “Cocoa Beach” scene, which rotates through soothing pastels and creates a nice ambiance in my living room. The most fun - and certainly the reason to invest in Nanoleaf - comes from the rhythm scenes. These scenes use a built in microphone to respond to music playing on a nearby device, and wow is it ever fun. Set your Shapes to a rhythm scene and play some tunes and instantly your room is a dance party! Not gonna lie, after installing my Shapes and starting a rhythm scene my friend and I spent the next few hours completely entertained by the Nanoleaf dancing to the music. The microphone is sensitive enough to pick up regular conversation, meaning you don’t have to blast your music to make it work. This is a great feature for anyone living in an apartment like myself. Furthering the fun, Nanoleaf panels are touch-sensitive, with scenes that respond to touch and the ability to assign actions to certain gestures. Because my Nanoleaf is above my TV I have not been making full use of the touch gestures, but I can see this being a very useful feature if your Nanoleaf is located within easy reach. The ability to trigger HomeKit actions with the Nanoleaf is awesome and I can think of numerous uses if your Nanoleaf is located near a door or in a well-traveled room in your home. Add on top of all this the ability to not only create your own custom scenes, but to download thousands of scenes made by Nanoleaf and Nanoleaf users in the “discover” tab of the app. It took me a few hours of playing around to land on this section, and wow, are there ever a ton of options. I of course downloaded a Christmas lights scene straightaway and now I have Christmas lights up without even trying. Truly, the possibilities are endless. In terms of lighting utility, I was pleasantly surprised to find the Nanoleaf is bright - bright enough to illuminate my entire living room with color on full blast. I have been keeping it dimmed to around 50%, which provides plenty of ambiance without blinding. I was able to watch multiple hours of TV at night with Nanoleaf playing happily in the background above my TV. Certainly if you install your Shapes near a chair or bed they would provide plenty of light for reading, with the brightness and color completely within your control. Overall, I am very pleased with Nanoleaf Shapes. I knew they would be fun, but I’m impressed with how much utility they provide, and how well-developed and integrated the ecosystem is. Installation and use couldn’t be easier, and while the app is a tad overwhelming at first (so, so many choices), it’s easy to figure out. Voice control works well, and integration with the rest of my smart home devices was seamless. Friends who have seen my Shapes are already looking at purchasing their own, and I have to say, I can’t wait to get another set for other rooms.

Cooler than LED light strips
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is no doubt that these lights are cooler than having standard LED light strips. They create kind of like an art piece that you can adjust by an app, change by the little control panel or simply by touching and swiping depending on what gestures you may set up. They are bright and colorful, providing practically every done of color you can imagine. They will certainly catch the eye of anyone that sees them for the first time. The install is fairly simple and guided through the app, but requires some planning. Be sure to get an idea of the pattern that you want. The app has a AR tool that lets you visualize the design, but I couldn’t get it off of the hexagons and the AR portion only worked for a brief moment. So, I just went analog and laid it out on a flat surface with a concept that was inspired from the little included pamphlet. The instructions say multiple times not to install on textured surfaces because it is only using double sided sticky pads for install. However, I have a fish scale style texture on my walls and it is holding really well. Even popped the panels off of the bracket a couple times to attach the connectors. The odd thing is though, they have 2 holes in each bracket but never mention if there is an option to use screws. Considering the way these are installed, there isn’t much option for adjusting them unless you get some extra double sided squares. The kit connects to 2.4 Ghz networks but the app works on your local network only. So, if you are not at home connected to your WiFi, you can’t change the lights through the app. You can use the default light patterns, customize the pattern yourself or download from many others that have been shared. You can have steady lights, changing lights, music reactive lights and even play some touch games like memory and simon. You can also set it to work with other smart devices like Google and Alexa. Overall it is a different twist from typical lighting. It can be fun and interactive or just be a glowing source of light. It is certainly something I wish I had more panels for that wouldn’t break the bank and cover a whole wall with the three different shapes available.

Lights are amazing but app needs wore work!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nanoleaf is an excellent lightning supplement to gaming setup or even entertainment room. Installation is easy close to doing LEGO. Shapes adhere to the wall perfectly through double sided strips to easy take off as needed. Smartphone app is basic and has bunch of features that can be used to change color as desired. I gave it 4 stars because Nanoleaf app lacks of controlling freely what to be synched. When I linked Nanoleaf to HomeKit, all of the scenes from Nanoleaf are synced to my Apple devices HomeKit app and there is not an option that you can choose which scene to sync individually. Also Philips Hue lights integration is the same issue, once Hue account is linked, all of the lights will be synced automatically and no option to chose lights individually. Razer Synapse can’t find the Nanoleaf wifi and I tried to enter the IPs manually but same issue. I have tried several ways to get it linked but failed. I wish to see an update to the application that gives more flexibility to choose lights to be synced as well as integration with Razer can be done through the app instead of going to Razer to do so. Overall, lights experience is really awesome and transition of colors is smooth.

Great decoration with a few caveats
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary: I’ve been wanting one of these as they always appear in the every YouTube personalities’ video and they just look cool! Here are my thoughts on this exciting product. Pros: - They look awesome! - Great selection of colors - Ability to add units together - Easy to mount - Kids love it! - Works with Apple Homekit Cons: - Only works on 2.4 ghz - The links are flimsy and limited - Panels aren’t very sturdy so don’t touch them after mounting - Power cable requires some thought to hide Unboxing: In the box you get seven panels, ac adapter, a controller, documentation, links, and adhesive tape. The AC adapter is fairly large for what might be expected for lights. Set up / assembly: First off, the set up requires a 2.4 Ghz connection. Where this is tricky is that if your router doesn’t seamlessly allow you to bridge your 2.4 & 5 ghz connections together you might need to switch which network you are connected to. In my case I had to connect to the 2.4 ghz portion of my network to work the setup, this might just be my case though or my specific setup. The links to put the panels together are an exact amount for these exact number of panels and relatively flimsy so it is best to have your desired pattern thought of in advance or you might need to obtain new ones if you want to change it later. The panels did not feel very sturdy when handling them but then again, they are not meant to be physically played with all the time. The power supply also had a small three prong attachment to the unit that felt somewhat flimsy so take care in handling. When mounting, the power cable sticks out like a sore thumb. You can probably get some cable concealment runners that will better allow you to paint over them and hide them but without it, they will just dangle there. The controller attaches on the unit and allows for some quick one touch modifications. For more thorough controls you will need the app and/or homekit integration.

PLAY with interactive LIGHT!! Product of the year
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here we have the 7th, yes, SEVENTH, generation of smart light panel from Nanoleaf, and the first that can be interconnected with different SHAPES, including Hexagons, Triangles, and mini-Triangles. Having seen this promising product displayed at CES in 2016 I’ve been wanting it ever since. The initial launch seemed a bit pricy, and quality concerns of a first generation product prevented me from the investment. Boy have Nanoleaf products matured. Not only are they on their 7th generation, but they’ve managed to integrate the best of the previous 6 into their new SHAPES product line. This includes Rhythm, Touch, Smart Lighting, and even communication with their new Thread mesh networking bulbs. Best Buy limits postings of 6 photos, but there were SO many more I’d love to have displayed — still shots certainly DO NOT do it justice. (Ashamed to admit, I made an evening of Live Photo Loops and sent them out as Holiday text cards ) This is a product that you really owe it to yourself to check out. Fantastic for : * Living rooms, Media Rooms and Theater Rooms *Studios, Offices, Music rooms, Kids rooms, *Stairwells, hall ways, and vanities, *and just about anywhere else Disclaimer : reviewed product consists of 7-Triangles, and master controller. I added 3-Hexagon, 10-Mini-Triangle expansion packs, and a pair of Nanoleaf Remotes, NOT included in the original starter kit purchase. PROS + Vibrant Colors + Lighting for any mood + Newest up-to-date version + Built-in Rhythm module included + Touch-sensitive illuminated feedback + infinite possibilities with other shapes CONS -patience -many possibilities -semi-perm installation -pre-planning (but worth it) -sorta pricy (but well worth it too) -adhere to smooth surface, no textured paint CONCLUSION Nanoleaf is in a category all to themselves. This new product is the best of the bunch. This 7-Triangle starter kit offers many layout variations. Adding a pack or two of different shapes, Hexagons, mini-Triangles, or more Triangles infinitely expands your possibilities. Recommendation : Strong Buy !!

Nanoleaf is simply one of the tech best products!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simply one of the most beautiful products I’ve ever owned in my entire life. It’s simply so ultra sleek yet so modern that it blows my mind how many colors the Nanoleaf has. If you’re looking for features out of your lights that look no further it doesn’t get any better than the Nanoleaf. It REALLY put every other lighting systems (Especially RGB) I’ve tried to shame. You can have the lights react to your mood, you can have a playlist of colors!, you can download the community set of lights, HomeKit support, you can set custom timers...you getting the central theme here? It’s YOU. You have so much control over everything and the user experience comes from the personalization you put into the Nanoleaf. This what makes this product so phenomenal because it gives you so much customization beyond your wildest dreams when it comes to light. There are different panels you can buy and shapes from the Nanoleaf which makes this product even more customizable. I believe you have to be a Moderate tech user to use the Nanoleaf. It doesn’t require much skill to put together but does require your attention. The box is presented in a wonderful presentation once you open it up you will see the seven Nanoleaf triangle panels. All the attachments to put your Nanoleaf on the wall is there. Once you look at the QuickStart guide and Download the “Nanoleaf Starter” app it’s pretty much an easy setup. I was having issues with setting up Wi-Fi at first using a 5.0 GHz but realized YOU must set this up on a 2.4 GHz network. Once that was out of the way I used the app to help setup an account on the app. You must do this if you want to download the community made colors from the web. The limit of downloads is 50 colors; Of course you can make your own if you like. Or not even use the app with the default colors. Setting up this on the wall was simple once I got into the groove of the panels. It may seem a little daunting to place but I used a standard layout as I want to extend the placement of more lights from Nanoleaf. They are actually fun to put together if you have more because it’s pretty easy wall attachments; snapping into place and can even rotate the Nanoleaf wall panel. I didn’t expect this to be as easy as it is because doing something like this takes a lot of time but for me it wasn’t. Once you sign into the app it can automatically setup to your Apple HomeKit giving me more control with Siri or just to control the lights. Also you’ll be greeted with a discovery of colors from Nanoleaf community. This is where you can go wild with features! Honestly I can’t list them all here but I’ll show you a sample in one of the photos. Not only you can customize your colors but you can have them; Fade Firecracker mode Pac-Man mode Checkerboard colors Melt colors Highlight colors Delay colors Increase speed of colors Set directions of colors Lights respond to music Burst colors I can go on and on but you can spend a endless amount of time just fooling around with colors on the Nanoleaf. It’s like a photoshop app how deeply layered it is. The “Nanoleaf starter” is the best thing in not only in being useful but the UI is gorgeous. Most of the time these companies do not put any attention to their app with their product. This is why Nanoleaf is in a whole other league of their own. Example: There is a place within the app where you can buy more panels; normally I would consider this advertisement but it’s not in your face or forcing you to buy panels each time you open the app. Something a “JLabs” app does. The Nanoleaf app is simply not intrusive. Anyway the community support is excellent and if you don’t feel like making a color scheme, you usually could search for a color scheme in the app that someone already made (Netflix and Chill colors are awesome.) In the end I think I never had so much joy out of a box this small. Nanoleaf just properly worked and if there was any error it was mostly on my end. It setup the colors I love and enjoy in shapes Can be easily added in the future. This makes any home more beautifully modern. Honestly if you just set it to white color also can brighten up the room shockingly. I am one who will be buying more panels in the future...like a lot more. It just beautiful. If there is anything I didn’t like was that it was a little strange to have my lights do an update. Something I never thought would be possible but it’s here. The Nanoleaf have periodic updates. I guess that’s par for the course for IOT devices. Other than that the Nanoleaf is a perfect 10 out of 10 and I’ll definitely letting everyone know about the Nanoleaf lighting system. I would be going back to using other RGB lighting, that I do know. Now if you excuse me; I’m going to go enjoy this awesome colors scheme of CyberPunk 2077.

Fun light element
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Nanoleaf shapes are a fun way to bring light and style to a room. I have installed these in one of the kid's bedrooms to act as a nightlight and to help him wind down at the end of the day. Of course he much prefers to pair them to his music and put on a full house light and sound show. In the box are the panels, connectors, controller, cord and instructions. Physical set up is super easy, attach adhesive and place on wall to make up whatever design you want, providing at least one side of each panel is touching. The wall must be smooth, and I had no issues with the panels staying put once adhered. The connectors have two spots on each panel to connect with, and only one connector is required, allowing for many different designs. Next install the Nanoleaf app and follow the setup process. If you do not have a dedicated 2.4 GHz connection, you must configure your router. This was the frustrating part of the process and the reason for 4 stars versus 5 due to the lack of flexibility or setup assistance to auto-select the connection. However, once I configured a 2.4 GHz connection and paired with an Android tablet everything worked seamlessly. The panels work with Amazon Alexa, which is easy to pair, however I haven't figured out much functionality other than remotely turning on and off the lights with Alexa. The features are nice, there is both a touch feature as well as a music feature shown in attached photos. The app allows for prebuilt and user submitted color themes, or you can build your own. The app recognizes the wall design upon pairing, so all lights fade and move as expected without user editing. I also like the fade feature, you can control the LED brightness allowing for low ambient light or sun rise effect. Overall a really neat techie light show without any coding or excessive user input to control. I recommend as a unique gift or a great way to add a unique light style to any room.

Fun and unique
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nanoleaf shapes allow you to add some unique flair to any room with endless color customization. Once you decide on your layout, the setup process is straightforward thru the app. For installation, I decided to use 3M command strips instead of the included double sided tape when installing them. Having the little tabs that make them come off cleanly on painted walls is the reason I went this route. I set mine up using an iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 14 with HomeKit. Once you scan the code for HomeKit thru the app, you’re up and running and can control and customize your lights. The app give you tons of customization from schedules, preset scenes, the ability to make custom scenes, different touch functions for the panels and more. The panels can be very bright on the highest setting, but you can also set them to auto brightness. When the environment is dim, the panels will dim and when the environment is bright the panels will increase in brightness. For a game room, theater room, kids room or anywhere you wanna add some unique light accents, Nanoleaf shapes will do it. Though these aren’t cheap, they do have a wow/cool factor that I personally haven’t seen with other products.

fun to design with
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are great for putting up fun designs, one thing to keep in mind is that they are supposed to be more static than not. They aren’t permanent by any means but they aren’t like magnets on the fridge where you can create something new every two seconds. For me I had the triangle pack which you can’t make the most shapes with just triangles, but they make a great light. This did make me wish I had picked up another pack just to try and make different shapes with. I started with playing around with shapes on the table and I would recommend this over trying to put it straight on the wall, I ended up with a star shape in the playroom, for me is a fun little design and the one-year-old loves it. The photo really doesn’t do the light justice and they are really clear and nice. I was able to integrate it pretty easily with smartthings and add some automations with turning on and off at a certain time. I might try to play around a little more eventually with some If than statements to see if I can get it to be more of a game of changing lights for the kiddos as they love coming up to it and seeing the triangle change color when they touch it but then it just changes back so they did lose interest after a little bit. If you need or just want to add light to a room that looks great and is quite bright these could work very well for that especially since the colors are so customizable and dynamic.

Beautiful, but horrible connection
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The lights are beautiful, no doubt about it. It's cool that you can create different color patterns. The set-up on the wall wasn't too bad, either, and the mounting tape doesn't destroy your paint if you do it right. But what is UP with that app? For the life of me, I could not get it to connect, neither on my phone or iPad. I couldn't add it to iHome because my devices wouldn't pick up the accessory. It was the most frustrating experience on earth. I called BestBuy because I'm a TotalTech member, and they couldn't help me. After a few hours, I finally managed to reset it and get it on my iPad. Siri was able to turn them on and off. A week later, and Siri can't connect to them anymore. She turned off all the hue lamps, but NOT the Nanoleaf panels. I tried resetting it again, but I'm having the hardest time getting them to work. I would say think twice before purchasing these. They are super expensive, too. I should have bought another hue lamp.

Product is solid, app is GARBAGE.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Due to WFH, being a shopaholic, and watching too much twitch. I've been on a buying spree of everything and anything that can make my home office more "cool"/"dope"/"hip"/"sus"/"no cap" (I dont know what the cool kids say these days). So naturally this brought me to buying some nanoleaf. So straight up, the app is one of the worst apps I've ever used and most of this review will be me complaining about how bad the app is. But I am still keeping it partially because I like it and partially because I am too lazy to take it down after all the effort I put in to find the right design and mount it to the wall. After unpacking the shapes, I had both the triangles and hexagon shapes, I loaded up the app to use the AR so I can test different designs in the room. This completely failed because the app didn't have the new triangle shapes and could not do the hexagon + triangle shapes together, this was basically a couple days after it got released on BestBuy. So I had to just go old school and cut some paper into shapes and tape them on the wall. To mount it to the wall I ended up using 3m command strips and that was a pain because the interconnects between the shapes kept on popping off. Once I got it all mounted, after much drinking and crying, I loaded up the app to pair the controller. I could not pair it until I ended up using the QR code that was on a piece of paper in the box. DO NOT throw this paper away because I've had to re-pair it a couple times and the only way I've been able to ever successfully pair it is using this QR code on the paper. I've photographed it, made 100 copies, laminated it, gave it to my 100 closest friends and family for safe keeping, mailed it to myself through slow mail so it shows up in a few years, just in case. After pairing it, I had the joy of going through the app to find different scenes. While it shows you the basic colors that are part of the scene and whether its a music/beat based or a fixed pattern scene, it doesn't do a good job of telling you what that particular scene will do. Applying the scene was never a 100% thing for me, guesstimating I would say I had around a 85% success rate where I didn't have to apply it through the app multiple times before it showed up on the device. Once its going, its actually pretty cool and I currently have it set to a relaxing scene which provides some nice ambient lighting/mood in the room, perfect for some late night coding and/or reading. That is until it just randomly turns off, randomly turns on, or just says bye felicia and pretends it doesnt know who you are. Its really disconcerting when you walk into your room and the nanoleaf is just on doing its thing, where you swear to yourself you turned it off last night, and you stand there staring at it thinking A) Its possessed and telling you a message, like get out of my house. B) Someone is hiding in the walls of your house and turning it on/off randomly to mess with you. C) The app is total garbage. D) All of the above. Most recently, an update got released so I decided to apply it to my devices. Not shockingly, this was also a terrible experience. It was super slow, didn't do a good job of telling you the progress, it basically went from 0 -> done with nothing in between. Finally the update screen still thought an update was available even though the devices were reporting the latest was applied, Anyways, I like the product, I hate the app, if you do buy it be prepared to deal with a crappy app, maybe it will treat you better, who knows.

Art! Well worth the effort.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most will design their art and hang (affix) it to the wall. From the start, I knew I would love the freedom of being able to change things up now and then. So I'm using a framed mounting board which I plan to paint then hang. My experience with the Android app was honestly a failure. Frustration to say the least. But, after a good rest, I tried the pairing with my iPad and boy, what a difference! Success! After only a few minutes my creation was filling the room with colors and syncing to the music. I was able to connect directly to my HOME hub which is my iPad. lesson learned; some platforms perform better than others. Xmas 2020 was saved. Yes they have a Xmas theme as well as other holidays.

Adds an awesome lighting effect to any room

The newer version (now referred to as Nanoleaf Shapes), gives you more flexibility on how you create your "layout" of panels. Each side of the triangle now has two connector slots (previously, there was only 1 connector in the middle of each side), allowing you to stagger the panels more and also connect some of the other "shapes" such as the hexagon and the mini-triangles. You can use the app to layout the panels first or use it to "shuffle" through different designs if you need some inspiration. The app can also use AR to give you an idea of what it will look like on your wall. Another improvement in this generation of the Nanoleaf panels is the adhesive: the double-sided adhesive can be removed like a CommandStrip where you pull a tab to make a clean removal. This makes it much easier to remove the panels from the wall if you were to move. The unit is compatible with Apple's HomeKit which allows you to access some of the functions from the Apple Home app. HomeKit also makes setup a breeze and your iPhone can transfer your WiFi information automatically to the Nanoleaf unit. ## Design The panels can get very bright and I typically have the brightness set below 30% so that it provides a comfortable glow. I really like the ambiance the lights give off: it adds a modern look and a splash of color to any space. I don't recommend placing them in the bedroom as any type of power interruption causes them to come on at full brightness when it boots up. The app comes with several built-in "scenes" that provide both soothing animations as well as "flashy" effects for parties. You can adjust the colors used in the animations and create many other customizations in the app. For example, you could create a relaxing flicker similar to a fire or some colorful strobe lights to celebrate. I could spend hours playing around with the available options in the app. You can also use the app to select a scene that responds to music, which creates a cool effect for parties or for when you're just relaxing with some tunes. ## Summary Overall, the Nanoleaf lights look awesome whether you need a cool background for your YouTube channel or if you simply want to add some ambiance to any room. The app can be a little overwhelming at first with the many available options and can take some time to understand, but you can create some really cool designs with some patience.
