The ability to lengthen or shorten the length of the cable allows easy use in the small confines of the glove compartment where the USB-C outlet is located. The cable as opposed to just a wire makes it more handy in the space allowed.

The box was ripped open, but wire was still sealed in plastic with the instructions. Been using it for over a month now. Works well to charge the phone or computer.
