I like it so far. Well worth the money. My wife has not complained about our kitchen floor in months. I had had a couple minor issues. First, it got close to curtains and the side brush came off. Easy enough to pop back on, but if I wasn't paying attention, I would not have realized. Second, it likes to get stuck under some of my appliances. It is just low enough to try to push itself under when it can't fit and every once in a while it gets stuck. Easy enough to move and continue and the app alerts you on your phone. Lastly, We had a lidar issue and it fell down my step. luckily, its just a one step down living room, so there was no damage. All you have to do is wipe the lidar sensors clean. I adjusted my nogo lines so hopefully even without lidar, it won't happen again. As for performance. The very first run, it didn't pick up as much as I would have liked. However, I have mine scheduled to run every mon/wed/fri night. It keeps the kitchen clean. I bought two more charging stations and have three floors in my house covered. I am ready to get one more to cover the last two floors of my house. I have a split level with a second story, basement, and sunken livingroom on the main floor. I got mine for $550. I have seen it on sale as low as $399 on deal of the day. Unfortunately, I missed it or I would have my second one already. The app is pretty easy to use with one bot and 3 floor plans. I am hoping it is just as easy with a second one and 5 floor plans.

Cleans Well At The Price Of Being EXTREMELY Loud!!

I like the Neato Botvac D6 Connected App-Controlled Robot Vacuum. The first pass of my 1,600 sq. ft. ranch home mapped my floor plan to 1,091 sq. ft. having a cleaning cycle of 1Hr 47 Mins. It uses both its front bump sensor and right sided Class 1 LASER to guide it through obstacles in your home. I was amazed on how much dirt it picked up just from the first mapping cycle. I do have two high-shedding short haired cats and the robot vacuum dust container was approximately 4/5th full with cat hair and dust. After its first mapping cycle I used the app on my Android phone to set up boundaries where it failed to navigate a couple obstacles and became stuck. Upon its second use, I noticed how the robot vacuum starts to clean via making a perimeter path of a room and then follows an overlapping snake-like back and forth pattern. This second pass, three days after the first pass, covered 932 sq. ft. at 1Hr 30 Mins. and also filled the dust container to approximately 4/5th full once again. Both Eco mode and Turbo mode creates lots of noise with an average level of 85 decibels with peak of 90 decibels at a range of 4 feet. I used both modes in its 3rd and 4th cycles and didn’t see a significant change in the amount of debris it collected. The majority of my home is hardwood with only my two bedrooms being carpeted. I did notice that the cleaning motion of the robot vacuum appeared labored on my low pile carpet and wonder how it would perform for those having higher pile carpets. Pros: Cleans very well App very intuitive / easy to use Cons: Very loud Takes 1.5Hrs to clean approximately 1,100 sq. ft. Need to remove obstacles like bar stools and dining room chairs to allow for greater cleaning area Replacement parts of the brush kit and filters are fairly expensive

This is my second Neato Vacuum. The first one lasted over 5 years. I have not used the floorplan functions, with no-go lines, so I cannot comment on that. But, the vacuum works well and does a good job. I do like the extended battery time on this unit. It can vacuum over 1,000 sq ft of carpet and still have some battery charge left, which is better the my prior model which always had to recharge to finish the job.

This is not an "I just opened the box and wanted to share my initial excitement with you all" review. I took my time to test it well before I wrote this. Keep in mind that I had Neato products for more than 6 years and this is my third unit. As you might have guessed, I must like something about them since I keep getting them. The very first unit was a non-connected model, meaning no connection to internet, just an old-fashioned "press a button here" to start. That first unit served me well for over three years, then in year four it broke. I had the BestBuy Geek Squad warranty on it, brought it to the store, got the full original price on it. Used that money to get my second unit, the original Botvac Connected. That unit still serves me well, no issues to report. Before I go to my newest addition, the D6, let me share some observations on the robot vacuums in general. What I have learned over time is that their navigation system, how it is set up, plays an important role toward your satisfaction with the product. What path will it take? Will it go randomly or use a somewhat established plan? What separates Neato from other competitors, as per company, is that their navigation system creates a plan and systematically goes area by area instead of going all over the place in random. I can attest to that, Neato travel path seems very well defined. The next question is can you control it remotely, via app? Say you're away and you want floor to be cleaned because someones now is coming later on today. My second Neato had the app and I was able to launch it remotely from the office, miles away from home. What is very helpful with the Neato mapping system is that it shows the actual self-created floor map so you can see what had been cleaned and what was possibly omitted or not entirely covered. In addition if Neato gets stuck somewhere (life happens), the map will show you the location of your robot so you can easily find it and get it unstuck. Plus you will get alerts via your app about what is going on with the robot (got stuck, returning to base to recharge the batteries, cleaning completed, clean my bin, etc). Neato also provides one magnetic strip that you can put on the floor to tell your robot not to go over it in order to prevent the robot to go to that area. But even with that magentic strip the robot might get stuck from time to time in the same areas. In my case it was under the sofa and sometimes between two big chairs (extensions cords were there). So when I found out that the new D6 has a new feature called "no-go lines", I got intrigued. Seemed to me like a perfect solution to avoid the robot getting stuck (which could be unnerving especially if you're not on location when that happens). So, just to get this new "no-go lines" features I had decided to try the new D6 model. In a nutshell the "no-go lines" feature does work perfectly for me. We have about 2,000 square feet to cover, with multiple rooms, doors and plenty of furniture and stuff, a typical house. You open the application, do the initial run (go to Menu, My Floor Plan, then No-Go Lines and start the program). After the robot completes the entire run (will need to cover the entire area which can take time) the floor plan will be created and you will get the notification of it. Next, from the menu go back to the floor plan and using your finger draw the no-go lines where you do not want the robot to go. That could include doors to other rooms (say utility or a bathroom for example) or around some pieces of furniture or anything else that would apply to your layout. after finishing drawing all the lines save them. To utilize the no-go lines feature YOU MUST start the robot from the application only (you could also start the cleaning directly from the robot, but the no-go lines feature would not work). In my case after creating the no-go lines I had several doors kept open on purpose and started the D6 from the app. It never got stuck, it did not go through the doors where the no-go lines were laid out, no issues with completing the cleaning cycle successfuly and without any hiccup. That feature alone, the ability to create the no-go zones is a decisive winner for me and it separates the D6 from prior versions of Neato and from its competitors. Now I do not have to worry about the robot not completing the cleaning cycle entirely on its own, I have confidence that it will get the job done. Another nice feature is that you can create multiple floor plans. That could help if you have multiple floor levels to cover. Even you can create various versions of the same floor plan, with a different numbers of rooms to cover. You have the ability to set up a schedule, on which days the cleaning should occur and the start time. There is a "gentle version" set for not hitting hard any object and the Eco version of the program to lower the sound level of the robot. Couple of other general comments. When using the vacuum robot you need to make sure that you empty the bin on a regular basis, possibly after each cleaning is completed. From time to time check the brush and clean it if needed. Neato brush can be easily removed and cleaned. How does it clean? Each subsequent version of Neato seems to be better at it than the prior one in that regard. We are happy with our floors, we did not manually vacuum them for years since we got the original Neato. Some corner areas might be missed or not entirely vacuumed but overall it does a very decent job. I can manouver very effectively between the legs of a chair, going back and forth trying not to miss an area. You could also select a "spot cleaning instead of entire floor. In summary, I am very satisfied with the improvements and the functionalities of the new D6. With the new "no-go lines" feature especially, the D6 looks like a winner to me.

Original Neato did a great job so when it turned 8 and had slowed down we decided to get another. Loved the original and although this new one is good it does not seem to clean quite as thoroughly on the hardwood floors. Will have to check and see if maybe it is the cleaning brush as it seems to do a good job on the carpet.

    Humans Not Needed

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    App, Home use, Mapping
    Cons mentioned:
    Stuck

Vacuum cleaning a house is a task that no human being should have to do. The Neato D6 understands that and although it does not clean my couch and stairs, it does a good job in other areas with few exceptions. Setting it up after downloading the app was surprisingly easy. It even works with 5 Ghz Wi-Fi which was a nice surprise. A model from another brand I recently tried only supported 2.4 Ghz which I try not to use at my house due to interference from microwave ovens and Wi-Fi from neighbors. Once connected it was very easy to configure. It did a good job vacuuming my house. There were only a few issues as explained below: First, It was stuck many times trying to go underneath a shelf. It would mostly fit except for the logo hump on top. I would get it unstuck but it would go back to the same spot. The same thing happened under one of the doors of the kitchen cabinets. It does not seem to measure the height and it does not learn that it can’t go underneath some objects. I did not find a way of preventing it from going back but I was able to block them so the D6 could not even try. In that sense, you can’t really call it a “smart” robot. I was a bit disappointed with that but I like the fact that you can draw areas for the D6 to avoid. That was handy because I wanted to make sure it would not go into my office unless I was around. Second, other similar robots were able to clean underneath one of the couches that I have. This Botvac D6 avoids it every single time. I am not sure I can make it go there but maybe it is a good thing. Better avoiding it than being stuck. Speaking of smart, I was very glad to use Alexa to control it. You say “Alexa, start cleaning” and she responds with “OK, starting Neato D6” and there it goes. All you need to do is search for Neato on the Alexa app and enable the skill. After that, all Alexa devices you have will be able to control it. The map it created was very accurate. It does not show differences in floor types. I have a range of wood, tile and carpet rooms but the map doesn’t seem to distinguish them like I have seen in another brand. It is not a deal breaker since it does not affect its operation in any way. While occasionally, you will still need to use a traditional vacuum cleaner, you will be mostly satisfied with its performance. If you schedule it to do the cleaning more than once a week, – mine is scheduled to do it every other day – you will rarely need to use anything else except for those areas the D6 can’t reach such as stairs, couches, counters and some shelves. Otherwise, it has a strong suction power and battery lasted way beyond my expectation as it did not have to recharge although my house is considerably bigger than average. Until they can come up with a robot that does the areas I mentioned above as well, you will not be disappointed with the Neato D6. Here’s waiting for a robot that picks up things my children leave on the floor. Yes, you need to pick up socks, cords and other small things that could choke it. This actually happened while I was writing this review but I highly recommend it

Excellent robotic vacuum. I love the path it shows online to see exactly where it’s been and if it gets stuck it shows me where it is on the map.

Wish it was able to vacuum my area rug. It’s too tall for it. Otherwise gets the job done. I had to redo the floor plan twice without ever moving the base which was inconvenient when wanting to use no go lines feature.
