I should have done it sooner. That said I had it a week and an update came out that has the maps and scheduler broken. It can and does still clean the house when I ask it too. It was easily a 5 star product until this update. Now its missing too many of the premium features for 5 stars, but is still doing a good job in manual mode.

Good Performing Robot Vac with Great Feature Set

The BotVac D7 is yet another robot vacuum cleaner. It has the familiar sleek rounded design. Like other modern robot vacuums, it's app controlled and has a myriad of sensors that let it intelligently map your home. It will automatically find and dock to it's charging station at the end of a cleaning session or when the battery is running low. Like other robot vacuums, it works best on solid floors or short carpets and will struggle if not get outright stuck on high pile carpets. So, where does the BotVac stand out? 1. You can mark areas the vacuum doesn't traverse via the app. This is by contrast of having to place obstacles (either your own or specifically designed for the robot) into your home (in order words, adding more clutter) to accomplish this same purpose. 2. You can manually drive the robot via the app. This comes in handy for more than just manual cleaning. 3. The shape isn't a complete circle but more like a squared off U. The vacuum brush/opening is in the squared area which allows for a wider mouth by comparison to a round vacuum of about the same shape. This means more coverage in a single sweep of the vacuum which translates to faster and more complete cleaning. Getting started with the vacuum is pretty quick. Download the app, go through pairing mode (bumper and start button) and complete setup over wifi. After an inital charge (or not depending on how much the robot has when it arrives), you're off on a mapping run. This would be a relatively slow one as the robot is figuring out your floor plan, bumping into things slightly to fully map the area. Here, since it doesn't know about "no-go" spaces yet since there's no map, you do need to place a boundary, open up doors, etc to aid with the initial run. After that, on cleaning runs, things run faster with the BotVac avoiding known obstacles though it will still respond if it bumps into something new placed in its way, like a certain reviewer's foot. One thing about the "no-go" markings - they are active with app-initiated cleanings but not ones triggered via the button on the robot itself. Aside from the setup, initial mapping, and setting "no-go" areas, the app also lets you pick a cleaning profile (Eco or Turbo), ability to start, stop, and pause cleaning, and return the robot to its dock. You also get a map of the environment, the robot's current location, cleaning time, status, etc. You can also setup a schedule for cleaning - though this is a normal feature as one of the big selling points for these is to have cleaning take place when you're away or asleep, so you don't need to worry about getting the way or having the turbo noise bother you. Cleaning performance is pretty good. My only gripe is on the higher fluff carpets. The robot gets bogged down in that. To be fair, I've yet to have a robot vacuum handle it well and even my stick has a hard time pushing through. It would be cool if this could act as wet/dry. The kitchen is a challenging area as debris sometimes requires a bit more effort to pick up than just a vacuum and motorized brush, but I'm otherwise pleased with the performance. In summary, this is a pretty decent vacuum. It does a good job, with lots of bells and whistles that helps it stand out from the competition.

    One SMART Powerful Robotic Vac!

I got this Neato D7 Robotic vacuum cleaner and ran it through its paces. Well this is what I found out. On pulling it out its solid and a bit heavy showing it's well-built. Big power wheels with a rubber tread grips it well over most any surface. It's one powerful vacuum cleaner for sure and the waste bin pops off and on with ease. But by far the best feature is that it's smart, really one smart robot cleaning machine! You'll need Wi-Fi to get the most out of it and download the App. Name your Smart Bot a name and let it do its thing. It will take a while to map out your area but once it does your set. While you can use Magnet Strips like previous versions and other robot Vacs, this D7 is smart, really smart and does away with them if you so wish! Download the App and after it's mapped out your cleaning area, just pull up the app, its mapped area of your home, zoom in the areas if you need to and draw No-Go lines on the area via its app and it won't go there! No more worries of it eating power cords under desks, or other areas that you simply don't want it to be at. This robot and its App is loaded with features, the more I play with it the more I learn and love it. I have carpet, an area rug and hard floors. The D7 runs thru all of them with ease. Because its flat at the front, the roller sits right up there and gets up close for better cleaning than the round robot cleaners! It stands about 3 ?" so it may not fit under all couches but a few small rubber furniture pads at the home improvement store fixed this quickly and easy. Best part of the Neato D7, other than its powerful, wicked SMART and well-built is that it's very neat looking, ok GREAT looking in its brushed metal skin! Yes it may come across pricey but I thought the same of my Dyson V6 and compared to other robotic vac's, it's competitively priced with more features. I'm thrilled with my choice and my stick broom now see's little use!

We've welcomed Auntie Pattie to the family....

This was our first foray into the world of robotic vacuums, and it has been a great experience so far. While we'ven't completely abandoned our first generation Dyson DC07, it is good to let that hand vac rest its old bones while the Botvac takes on more of the day-to-day chores. Out of the box, the Botvac was extremely easy to set up, and my wife took a special pleasure in naming her new ward Auntie Pattie when she downloaded and installed the app, which was equally simple and user friendly. From first appearances, I loved the 'D' shaped design, it stood out from the standard round build on competitor units, and that seems to give this unit an edge in being able to get tighter to baseboards and flat surfaces. This shape allows for a long rotating head up front similar to what you would find in a hand held vac, with a smaller round rotating brush that works to kick up anything stuck in the corners, which is a great design. Really like the brush metal plating on top, as well as the plastic bumper that allows it to gently figure out what it is navigating while not getting nicked up, or nicking any furniture up. The top plate comes right up to uncover the dustbin, which could definitely stand to be a bit bigger. LED indicators on top show cleaning mode, battery/power & WiFi connectivity, all good info to see, but the app is where this unit shines. After initially letting the unit charge overnight, we cut it loose to sort out the main level of our house, which is about 1000 s.f. Watching via the app how it 'learns' the house was pretty amazing, as it maps out its travels and you can instantly see where the 'voids' are in its cleaning path on a graphic representation of the floor plan it creates while cleaning. While the app allows us to create boundary lines (a great feature), it sensed our stairs to the lower level and didn't progress on a death plunge to the basement, it just went along to clean the rest of the upper level and ignored the drop. This unit can struggle a bit with chairs and cords, as all robotic vacs will, but it 'programmed' us to have better cord management, and to pull out chairs when we were leaving the house, a very small price to pay in time and effort which allowed for easy remote cleanings. It gets under furniture it can clear without pause, and we've yet to see it get really stuck. If you take the time to learn where it sees a challenge, you can make minor adjustments that will allow it to flourish. In Eco-mode for a daily clean, the Botvac works really well with crumbs and dirt, as well as dog hair (we've a long-haired beast that sheds a full version of itself every week) without struggle, and on a battery charge of roughly 1 hr 45 mins. It did ignore some larger scraps of paper, but on the whole it tackled an area with multiple floor materials (carpet, hardwoods, area rugs and tile in the bathroom) with gusto and with equally clean results. In turbo mode (great for spot cleaning for individual rooms/spaces before guests/mother-in-laws arrive) it churned out a great cleaning on about a 30 minute battery charge before needing to dock. The only challenge we've seen is that this unit can use a low-power internal alarm that forces it back to the base in time. Ours fought the good fight like a soldier, and died in the field twice without getting home. Seems like a simple routine that could be written into the code to allow it to get back to a charge and live to fight another day. As noise levels go, it is pleasantly low on Eco, and expectedly louder in Turbo, no great shakes either way to us as we expect some noise when cleaning. Maintenance is fairly simple with brushes that are easy to access and comb out, an easily accessed air filter and the aforementioned top-access dustbin. Simple, as life should be with a robotic maid. Many pros with this unit that we will be enjoying for the foreseeable future, vacuuming on the whole isn't something anyone really looks forward to, and Auntie Pattie delivers a deserved break from that action for me and my wife. The dustbin could be larger, but I suspect Neato knows that and provided that largest the unit could accommodate, not sure what sacrifice in design would need to be made to make it significantly bigger, but I suspect the product engineers do and made it as large as they could. I can't really ding them for that because, well, they made it so I'm not vacuuming anymore. The app control is next level stuff, being able to vacuum while at work with the touch of a button does actually make me smile, and the mapping and learning component is something you just aren't going to find in many other units. Last but not least, our dog has had a long standing adversarial nemesis in the hand-held vacuum, which he runs from as if the devil itself was in pursuit. The Botvac earned a few curious glances, but pup walks around it with ease, and most importantly, without fear. Two paws up.

I am, honestly, amazed at how well this robot works. It is able to get itself out of tight spots. It does a very good job of cleaning on carpet, tile, and hardwood on 3 levels in our home. It cleans almost 1500 sq. ft. on our main level with no battery charge. It picks up a great deal of dirt. We will still need a small spot vacuum to clean tightly around the baseboards and stairs, but all in all it is a great addition to our home.

I ran into two issues after the first cleaning with my Neato D7. It had trouble mapping a room with mirrors and had a problem with the battery draining while docked. I contacted Neato's product support by live chat twice. The first time the Neato rep was pleasant but ultimately offered no real support of any substance while also not answering my questions. As my issues persisted, I did a second live chat to only have the Neato rep cut-off the live chat session abruptly and sending me an email that they would close my open ticket despite the fact they hadn't fixed all the issues. The Neato D7 did do a good job cleaning the first time I ran it but I couldn't help but question the longterm reliability of the D7 and my negative experiences with their customer support did not make me want to stick with them.

This Neato Robot Vacuum is the greatest. You can set it up to clean individual rooms. When I looked at the carpet it was as if an expensive vacuum had been used. Based on what I see the map it makes to see after done it covers the whole room. Easy to clean. We just love it.

After looking to get our first vacuum robot last year and going over reviews, nothing seemed just right, but the D7 feature set was mentioned in a few reviews. So I signed up to be notified when it would be released, and I ordered it the day I got notified. After a week with it, I am now ordering my second one for our second floor. We have concrete floors and rugs, and the D7 does a great job cleaning. We have 5 birds and 2 dogs, so plenty of cleaning needed. When I first got it I vacuumed first with my regular vacuum and then let the D7 loose. I was amazed at how much dust and dirt and hair it managed to pick up even after I "cleaned". Now, I have it going once a night and my floors always are clean (and feel clean on bare feet). I just ordered my second one for our second floor (all carpet) where the birds live, after trying it out and seeing how well it picked dirt and debris there, too. The mapping feature is amazing, and I had read that other robot vacuums seem to have problems with black or dark floors or carpets. We have both dark concrete and black carpet, and it has no problems with it. It also properly recognized the stairs and didn't fall down. Haven't even had a need to use the no-go line feature yet. I would definitely recommend it.

Purchased the Neato D7 after owning a roomba s9 and i7+ For about a month. I returned the S9 because it got stuck on the carpet and the i7 because it didn't pick up dog hair. I have had the D7 for about a week now and it is vastly superior at cleaning pet hair. I ran the i7 and D7 back to back and the amount of hair picked up by the D7 was astounding. The app for the D7 isn't as good as the iRobot app, but the vacuum is much better. For the money, the Neato is the best robot vacuum available. Included picture is what the Neato picked up running right after the i7.

I owned a room a 960 and 980 which were great but did some damage to my rugs. I chose the D7 for it's "no-go lines" and superb navigation system. The D7 uses a laser to map out the house compared to the camera Roomba uses. It outperformed my Roombas is every aspect!! The ability to draw No go lines on the app is amazing, you can draw as many as you like and the vacuum automatically avoids those areas. The Roomba's Virtual wall barriers were hit and miss, not to mention that each virtual barriers cost $40/unit. The D7 cleans well, the app is very easy to use, it has a 2 hour charge, the design is much better (it gets edges really well), it's quieter, works with Alexa, the bin is bigger, the brushes are bigger which means it cleans more area in a shorter time, you can create different zone, and has spot cleaning abilities.

Cleans better than a normal vacuum. Didn't think our carpet was really this dirty when we cleaned every other day. It's a little noisy when it's running but we run it when we're not home. Love the idea that we can set no go lines, after it runs a floor plan cleaning, so the Neato won't go to certain areas. This helps when we leave the pet food down. If you're looking for a robot vac, definitely consider this. It won't bounce around like the Roomba or Shark.

The pros: when it actually makes it out of the room that it starts in it cleans well. My cats are OK with it. They might even like it at this point. The cons: Good luck actually getting it to vacuum more than one room. The bedroom gets vacuumed 20 times for every 12 times the living room get vacuumed. So, I frequently need to run the vacuum a second (and sometimes a third time @@@@@@@

Only thing that is not so great, is the price. It's a little high. But this is the age of tech, and this is something that comes with it. A higher price tag at times.

Hi, I just bought my first robot vacuum yesterday - the botvac d7. I bought it because of the virtual no-go lines and the integration with Smarthings (Neato Connect V1.2.3 - Botvac Connected Series). I'm really impressed with its mapping and navigation capabilities and quality of vacuuming, but have three things I'd like to ask. 1) Is it in the works to be able to store two or more floor maps? In addition to the main floor map, I'd like to be able to bring it upstairs and have it clean that floor too, recognizing that floor and respecting a new set of no-go lines, and NOT erasing my existing main floor map. 2) If it has a map of my house and knows how to comprehend no-go lines, is it in the plans to be able to designate room labels on the map? With that, for example, I could say 'hey alexa, tell neato to clean the kitchen' and it knows where the kitchen is and cleans just that room and heads back to base. 3) Speaking of knowing where things are, it would also be extremely useful to be able to designate a spot to clean using the map in the app, and NOT having to pick up the vacuum and set it in a place for it to clean. If I have to go get the vacuum to clean a 7x7 area, I may as well get the manual vacuum and do it myself. It seems like it should be possible for the vacuum to know how to get to the area, clean it and then return to the base. Great product overall, but not quite 5 stars yet. If the above haven't been considered before, I'd ask if you submit it for feedback. The Smartthings integration is awesome, too. I set it up with a rule to clean the house every two days, but only when we're away, and not during vacation mode, and not at night. Slick!

I am kicking myself for not buying a robot vacuum sooner. This unit does an excellent job of cleaning my 1,600 sqft home on all surfaces (carpet, area rugs, and hardwood floors). My only gripes are with the app you use to control the unit. There needs to be an easy way to do spot cleanings right from the app. Right now you need to pick up the unit and place it where you'd like it to do a spot cleaning. I'd love to just pull up the floor plan on the app and touch right where I need my D7 to do a touch up. Still, this thing does a wonderful job keeping my place tidy all week long.

Had Neato D7 and had to return it. D7 navigation is horrible. D7 kept getting stuck. Once D7 is manually moved, it will not go back to the base station, Set on the base station, set in front a foot, a couple feet, 5 feet. D7 hates to be interrupted and since it gets stuck a lot, it gets interrupted a lot and that drives the glitchy software crazy. It also stops and spins in circles quite a bit for no apparent reason. Neato D7 ended up being way too much work and requires babysitting. Compared to the new Roomba i7, it just works auto-magically for its whole floor clean run,

Luckily, because of the holidays, Best Buy extended the return period and I returned it. I decided to give it a second try because it did clean well. Second one arrived today and right out of the box it would not stay connected to WIFI. My phones, laptop, Ring doorbell, IPAD, desktop, and irrigation controller are all connected without a problem, but the D7 loses connect within 5 minutes after connecting and will only connect if you delete the robot and add a new one. My husband came home with this and I thought he was crazy (we had had the original Roomba). He is a tech guy and had done a lot of research. We have 3 large long haired cats - with clumps of fur at times and litter that gets tracked around. Our house sparkles! It has never been this clean - I'm very impressed. We were on vacation and could set it to clean just the area where litter gets tracked the most, then before we got home could run the whole area. I love that it can be programmed to just do certain areas and that it can be controlled remotely. The only glitch we have found is that upon re-docking (yes, it goes back home by itself to recharge) it sometimes nudges the docking station out of position a little and after several times can't go home to recharge. We have a combination of floors: hardwood, carpet, and scatter rugs and it performs well on them all!

This Neato model is mostly great. However, there a few issues that need to be addressed in future models. It chokes on Legos. In fact it chokes on socks. It chokes on cords. This little vacuum will clean your whole house flawlessly if you actually keep stuff off the floor. If you're like us and have little kids who manage to hide Legos in nooks and crannies, you will have to extricate them from the brush. On the plus side, cleaning the brush is extremely easy but not obvious. Once you know, it's a breeze beating our Roomba. One area where it also bests Roomba? It's not afraid of your dark carpet. It won't avoid black carpet thinking it's about to fall into the abyss. The house mapping really is Neato even if it's of dubious practical value unless you're setting up barriers which we'ven't tried to use. The dust bin is adequate and easy to empty. When the vacuum gets stuck or encountered a problem, the phone app sends a notification. The only mildly annoying issue we've had is we had to resync the vacuum a few times. I suspect that we need to make the vacuum IP address permanent, and I suspect that this will be beyond many people who try to use it. I definitely recommend this vacuum. It cleans well, especially if you take the effort to remove obstacles from its way. It's just not able to clear the things it runs over automatically, and that keeps it from greatness.

I would recommend this to a friend
