Customers are saying

Customers find value in the D9 Intelligent Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum's powerful cleaning performance, long battery life, and smart navigation, which allows it to effectively clean various floor types and avoid obstacles. However, some users experienced issues with the mobile application's connectivity and occasional problems with the brush getting clogged. The vacuum's unique shape is praised for its corner-cleaning capabilities, but the inability to easily create and manage no-go zones across multiple floors is a noted drawback for some. Overall, the positive feedback on cleaning ability and battery life outweighs the concerns about app functionality and brush maintenance.

A big step backwards from earlier models

This is a big step backwards from previous models. This botvac requires a different phone app to run, will not run on the standard Neato app. Also this thing ignores the magnetic strips that all previous models use for marking no-go areas, just runs right over them. So if you are already a Neato user you should avoid getting this model since there's no advantage to using it.

      Hi there,
We are extremely sorry to see that you are not yet enjoying your new robot vacuum and we want to make sure that you can get the best out of it. Yes, the new models operate differently from the previous ones as the New App was designed from scratch and also gives you the opportunity to have no-go zones in app, instead of physical ones. This model also gives you the ability to draw zones to determine the parts of your house you'd like to clean and many other present and planned features that can be implemented with the new OTA software updates.
We'd love to have the opportunity to speak to you about all the ways you can use your new Neato and iron out any issues that you might be having. Hopefully you'll enjoy using it as much as we did creating it. Please contact our Customer Care for more information https://neatorobotics.com/customer-care/

I ordered over a week ago and it works very well with cat hairs and picking up other stuff. I was wary at first because the first couple of runs it got "lost" before it mapped my place. Once it mapped my place, it has done excellent work! After the initial runs, I recommend using compressed air to blow the filter out of the particles (of course outside). You need the Neato App for mapping.

Our second Neato robotic vacuum. Works great, stores map of house on-board, not in the cloud. Has a long battery life that enables it to do the entire floor without recharging (although it will return to the base to recharge if needed - and then return to finish the job. Larger dust bin then our earlier model. Works through the Wi-Fi on our phone.

I instinctually bought this Neato product off the merts that I’ve had great experiences and peek performance from previous models (D3, D5, and D7). However, for me, the Neato D9 greatly underachived in its cleaning and navigation during lighted and/or low lighted conditions w/ the eco and/or turbo mode settings. For Navigational performance, the robot fails to self rectify navigational errors and will stay in that cycle until the batteries dies (often for hours) and it has a hard time getting back on base. For clean ing, performance the robot often missed complete areas and would leave clumps of pet hair. Lastly, the myneato app is not better than the original neato app, it is not user friendly and the robot cannot be called off the mission or sent back home. To close, i would not recommend this product - it does not perform as expected.

The older versions were programmed at a better level. This version gets stuck to one area, and will not map the entire house. The suction power is not as strong either. My Botvac was far superior than the D9.

    Great Automatic Vacuum

In the box you get the D9 robot vacuum, charge base, 2 extra filters, a cleaning tool, and the power cord. The vacuum itself is very well made and solid, which of course it needs to be since it will no doubt bump into a lot in its normal use. The initial set up is fairly straight forward getting it charged, then set up in the app. In my case the majority of area it will be used on is very close to our houses main router so the app found the router and connected after 2 tries. A few more clicks and it was ready to go. Our house is about a 50/50 mix of carpet and hard tile. And thankfully this does both. We have pets so there is a lot of hair to clean up and its brushes work very well and getting almost all of it up. The built in LIDAR works well mapping things out and getting to almost every nook and cranny. It was able to get all of the areas we want done on one charge with some left over. But if it runs out its smart enough to return to the charger, then resume where it left off when its charged. Of course any vacuum like this will require maintenance and thankfully its very easy. Cleaning the filters, emptying the bin, wiping down the sensors, and cleaning the brush can all be done in a few minutes. The only issue I ran into which isnt the fault of the vacuum is that the dogs and cats go nuts when its on. So we have to put the dogs out when its running. The cats eventually lost interest and just stay out of its way. So if you have pets its something to consider. Overall I am very pleased with the D9. Anything that can help with the day to day grind is welcome, and vacuuming is one of those grinds I hate. Its nice to come home and have things cleaned up for you. The D9 has plenty of power, battery life, and features to get about 90% of our floors cleaned up. It cant get everywhere, but its pretty close.

This robot vacuum does a great job of cleaning on carpet and bare floors. Downloading the app and connecting the vacuum is quick and easy. You do need to make sure to clear the floors of anything that can get stuck in the rollers or clog it like shoestrings on shoes, large pieces of paper, anything you don't want picked up. Same as any vacuum. The first few times running the vacuum it had trouble in some spots, mostly corners where furniture is placed close together. For instance I have a chair with a table placed next to it and the table is near a credenza. The vacuum got stuck, and though it tried, it wasn't able to back out. So for the first couple of runs, I had to babysit it. There are no remote controls that let you try to help it go backward or sideways when it gets stuck. That is the only reason I deducted a star. Once it gets the rooms mapped like you want, you can add the trouble spots to no go zones to keep it from getting stuck. Or rearrange the furniture. I did have to move the base from my preferred spot because the vacuum couldn't find it to park and charge. Once I found a good spot, it's not been a problem. The cleaning is GREAT. It really picks up the dirt. It gets under the tables, beds and behind the sofa with no problem. If there is room for it, it will go unless you tell it not to. The dustbin is a good size and easy to access for emptying.

specifically asked the manufacture live chat BEFORE purchasing this could be started MANUALLY as with their earlier models. was assured that I could. Get it home, unboxed, charged up. Dear Customer,

we're very disappointed to hear that you have had a problem setting up your Neato to start manually. The D9 requires an initial software update through the MyNeato app which ensures the latest software and features are available to your Neato, after which the robot can be run manually if the user prefers this option.

We hope you consider our brand again in the future, as we're sure that you will be impressed with the performance and benefits that our robots have to offer.

I was very excited to receive this robot vacuum. I have always heard god things about Neato Robotics, but this model definitely needs improvement. Let's start with design. I do like the looks and think the color and D shaped body is cool. The dust tray and brush roll are easy to access and clean and empty. I like that the brush roll is also much larger compared to other robot vacuums on the market. Now for the setup. Setup was fairly straightforward once I downloaded the MyNeato app on my phone. I was able to create a custom mapping for the D9 vacuum to follow so that it cleaned certain areas more than others. That is a cool feature but it does not seem to work well with the vacuum. I have noticed that the vacuum misses a good amount of space between an obstacle and the area that needs to be clean, even though it should have no issue reaching it. It also doesn't seem to clean my carpet as well as it says it should. I used both eco and turbo modes, but it just doesn't do the job. The runtime is only good if you use eco mode but it does recharge itself and continue if necessary. I would prefer it just do the job right the first run. I feel like this vacuum needs a lot of improvement. I do feel that it can be achieved with firmware updates and such. In the end, there are definitely better alternatives out there for the price.

I have nothing but praise for this robot vacuum. I’ve had several robots over the last few years, and this one addresses my two major complaints about them. But first, setup was easy. The unit is already assembled when it comes out of the box. Just connect the power cord to the charging base, plug it in, and set the vacuum on the base to charge. While it’s charging, download the NeatO app, run it, and the rest of the setup is straightforward. The app first locates and pairs with the robot, it then checks for and downloads if needed any firmware updates, and then you’re ready to go. Mine did require a software update, and that took about 15 minutes to complete. The unit does come partly charged, but it recommends that you let it fully charge before first use, a process, the manual says, that can take up to three hours. Mine was about 80% charged out of the box, and during the time I was setting up the app on my phone, the charge increased to about 85%. I was very interested to see how the robot would do, so I figured 85% was enough to try it out, so I let it rip. The robot did a great job vacuuming our living room, kitchen, dining room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large closet, and two hallways, all on the same battery charge, which dropped to only about 50% by the end of the cleaning. We have all-tile floors, and the vacuum works well on these. We have no carpeted rooms, so I could not evaluate its performance on carpeting. As I said earlier, this robot addresses two long-standing problems I have with robot vacuums. First, it is NOT round! By definition, a round robot vaccum cannot get into square corners. So, with round vacuums, you’re always left with a little more clean-up to do after the robot finishes. This robot, by contrast, is shaped like a half-circle, and the flat side is the forward side. So it can drive itself right into square corners and pick up all the dust and dirt. Why other robot vacuum manufacturers don’t adopt a non-round shape, I don’t know. It seems like a no-brainer to me. The other advantage of this robot is that it has a very large dust collector. With my previous robots, I had to manually pause them two or three times during a cleaning operation to empty the dust trap, but not with the Neato. The trap is large enough to hold everything my house could throw at it, and we have two cats contributing to the dust/hair burden as well. Like most of these robot vacuums nowadays, this one can be programmed to do just one room or to avoid certain areas of the house and so forth. All of that is nice, but, to me, what matters most is actual cleaning. As I said, this did that task well, and the added advantages of its semi-circle shape and large dust bin put it over the top. Highly recommended.

This is my second Neato Robot vacuum and overall I am happy with it. I had my first one for 3 1/2 years and the battery finally gave out. I had this one shipped to my home and I was very pleased with the packaging, because I knew that it was very secure and didn't get damaged in any way. If you had an older Neato like me, you will need to download the new app MyNeato, which is very easy to do and easy to manipulate. Out of the box, this Neato had a 70% charge, so I charged it for a bit longer as instructed and within half an hour I had this Neato running around my house. I really like that in addition to the Ultra performance HEPA style filter, the company will also include 2 additional filters. It also comes with cleaning tool for the get rid of any hair/string that gets tangled in the brush. Speaking of the brush, this Neato has a Helix multi-surface brush which is much bigger than most other competitors. The other reason why I have only had Neato vacuums is the design. Most other robot vacuums have the full circle design which prevents it from getting in corners, but you never have to worry about that with Neato's design. Another difference that I noticed with this Neato is that charging base is much smaller than the previous models. Another major upgrade with this Neato model is the battery life. If you set it on Econ mode, it will run up to 200 minutes which is plenty of time to clean most homes. This Neato D9 uses LIDAR to map and navigate around your home. Once you have mapped your home, you can create No-go zones in the app. You can also schedule when you want your Neato to get to work and vacuum. This new version also comes with more communication. The artificial voice will keep you informed of the current status of the vacuum. Overall, it has done a really nice job of vacuuming my carpeted rooms and my hardwood floors. The only gripe I have is that the company removed some features in the current app that I found very useful in the previous app. Other than that minor detail, I am extremely happy with this Neato D9 robot vacuum.

    Neato Robotics - D9

When I received my Neato D9 I was excited to get it set up and running. It mapped out my house as it started its first cleaning cycle. It seemed to find some markers to indicate a room and finished cleaning each "room" before moving on to the next section. I was a little frustrated that I couldn't see a map of its progress as it was built, and when it finished, the map was blurry or distorted based on wheel slippage that happened because the raised portion would get stuck under the cabinets on a few occasions. I removed one star for that. While the rooms were not square, it did seem to get to every point of the floor as expected, but one thing surprised me that I'd never thought about before. While going through the kitchen, it recognized the raised portion of the standing mats in front of the sink. After it finished doing the regular back and forth in the kitchen, it went back to the mats and hit them from direct paths to get a better clean around them. Every robotic vacuum we've used in the past has not even recognized them as an area that needed more attention to detail, so I added a star for that. The scheduling function works as intended, and it hasn't run out of battery in the middle of cleaning yet, but I'll just assume it would find it's charging station before that were to happen. It is a little tricky adding the no-go zones with a map that's not squared up, but I think it works well enough. I'm sure the map will square up better with more cleaning sessions. Cleaning out the filter is fairly simple. Just need to remember that this has a much smaller bin than one that you push, so it will need to be cleaned out quite frequently.

    Unique Design, Competent Cleaner

Summary: In a crowded field the Neato Robotics - D9 is a contender but do make sure the features match your requirements. I liked its deep cleaning ability, its ability to get around or over obstacles, its app, but wish it could empty its own dirt bin. Pros - Long battery life between charges, enough to clean for at least two hours - squared off design seemed to give it a broader 'swipe' and faster cleaning times compared to round designs. - Aggressive 'climbing' ability to get around or over obstacles. Neutral - At times the unique squared off design could get in the way of narrow spaces, at times it helped with corners. Not a clear win. - Like all robots, it works better with uncluttered work areas. So you need to pick up your socks. - My furniture is rugged, more delicate furniture could potentially be dinged by its aggressive climbing as it hunts to get past obstacles Cons - It is 2-dimensional in its thinking... meaning it can't carry over 'no clean zones' from floor to floor. - I am not a fan of having to empty dust bins every time. This is common with most robots though.

    LiDAR Vacuum = Game Changer

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I’m a big fan of robotic vacuum cleaners – I’ve owned ones from iRobot and Samsung and have tried to keep up to date with them as time goes on and they become more advanced. Neato has always been one of those brands that seemed interesting, but just just didn’t line up with updates and when I was looking to buy a new one. My current solution for robotic vacuum is a Samsung PowerBot with a camera facing upwards – a solution that I always thought would reign supreme. The Neato method of scanning a room ahead of it with LiDAR seemed like it could be an interesting change of scenery. This vacuum is unique in that it seems to focus on the edge of the room first (or ‘area’ if everything is one space) followed by doing back and forth passes over the middle section - just like mowing a lawn. Almost every previous robotic vacuum I’ve used either randomly slams into walls or tries to form straight back and forth lines where possible, but never have they focused on the edge first. I will admit that the move to LiDAR is welcome. The camera-based unit this replaces has a nasty habit of getting stuck in an endless circle around our kitchen island. Not only has this vacuum not done that yet, but it also effectively navigates around people, objects, and random dogs in its way. The addition of LiDAR also provides the ability to have an exact map of the area it vacuums – when combined with the app, you can add zones that it shouldn’t go in to and zones that it should change power levels for (eco or turbo). I am a big fan of the no-go zones because it is entirely based in the mobile app. My previous robotic vacuums required you to set up a stationary “digital wall” or put magnetic tape on the floor. None of that behavior here and I love it! Speaking of runtime modes, as mentioned there are two – eco and turbo. I find the eco mode to be fantastic when I’m running it near where I work during the day. In this mode it is still easy to focus on the task at hand (minus the vacuum bumping around every so often). I use turbo mode when I’m out with the dog. Both seem to be equally effective on the hardwood floor with carpet setup that we have. For those with pets, the vacuum does an acceptable job with dog fur. It gets caught in the filter medium at the back of the dustbin a bit, but it never leaves it on the floor which is really most of what I care about. I have found a few issues with this unit though – the biggest issue that won’t ever be fixed is that the way the dustbin empties is not great. The bin sits right in the middle of the unit, but there is a extra 1.5” lip of plastic on the two sides of the bin. It’s not a major deal breaker, but it does make emptying the dustbin somewhat cumbersome. The rest of my complaints for the unit are entirely based on the app as it sits at the start of October 2022. Given that this is unit requires Wi-Fi, I am confident that the following paragraphs will quickly turn irrelevant and I’m trying to not put too much emphasis on it for my star rating. Setting up the Wi-Fi for this device can be difficult if you don’t have the perfect wireless network configuration. If your network or password has anything other than an alphanumeric character in it, there is a chance that the setup will fail with a non-specific error message. This is documented on their site after a few troubleshooting searches, but having to redo my wireless setup is not something I was a huge fan of. There is also a weird disconnect between the app “start” button and the vacuum “start” button. In previous vacuums, the two buttons have been effectively the same. Not so for this vacuum. Pressing the play button on it to start a cleaning seems to put it in a default “clean everywhere” mode where it ignores the zones configured in the app above and attempts to navigate the entire room in eco mode without attention to no-go zones or intensity. In general, the Neato D9 is a nice product. It’s got a few rough edges, but overall it fits the bill for “clean my house” and does it better than any other automatic vacuum I’ve used to date. Being intelligent enough to map a house and accurately vacuum those spaces alone blows the previous competition I’ve worked with out of the water.
