A for Effort. C+ for Execution

I'll give the creators credit, they definitely attempted to revive this franchise. Bringing back the illegal underground street racing world is exactly what we wanted. The all out customization, the running from police and even the cool looking story line even though it's meaningless and boring, it really made an effort to get us back. But there is flaws...of course. It's story line seems utterly pointless, just no meaning to it and the physics of drifting and burn outs seem...well...don't appear right. What's pretty interesting is while playing story mood, you're also playing online as other people can join your game and challenge you to a race...and there's multiple options of racing. This game is like previous NFS, gain street cred and money to get the upgrades you want. However, the game within the first couple days seems like an absolute breeze to beat and it'll be that way nearly the whole game. So don't expect a challenging game but do expect another opportunity to get the old feel of customizing like you use too. The graphics are pretty impressive so you'll enjoy it. I'll recommend it but it's another game I wouldn't get before my first or even second choice...heck even third. 3 is being generous. It's a really cool game but overcoming the physics and the awful story line is basically half the battle, which is where they failed to execute correctly. In my opinion, that's a huge part you need to get right.

I was really hoping (as were most) that this would be NFS Underground 3. However, I had realistic expectations that it wouldn't be at all. The tuning is good for the cars that have it available, although some cars are very lacking in customization. The handling is going to be pretty polarizing for most players. You can go grip or drift, or somewhere in between. And even though I'd rather play in a grip style, I tend to rack up more points and go faster with drift, so I feel like I'm being shoehorned into it a bit. The AI rubberbanding, on release, was atrocious. Like, bad enough that I almost didn't purchase the game. At least Ghost is still working on it behind the scenes, and has promised support to the community. This has been proven through a few updates already that have improved the game, as well as brought back some nostalgia. I don't hate the lack of an in-car camera, although it'd be a nice option. I feel like the absence of a manual transmission is pretty unacceptable though, since the automatic shift logic in this game is very bad sometimes. As in, coming out of a corner, low RPM, the AI won't downshift to get you back into the power band, so you're stuck slowly putting forward as everyone flies past you. That's a really big omission and the main reason I gave it three stars instead of four. It's still a game worth playing though, and I don't think fans of the more recent games in the series will be disappointed. Graphics wise, it's very pretty, but still not on the level of Driveclub.

This game was delivered in perfect condition, but that's not what I'm going to talk about here... I'm going after the gaming experience instead. Despite my moderate anticipation for the new generation of NFS, it actually adapts quite a bugged design -- No pause in the game, constantly online without an offline mode, which means if you're new to this game then you will be constantly harassed by online players who just enjoy messing with totally unknown people. Thanks to the human nature I can't finish my first mission without being crushed against the walls. It's just a starter killer. And to make things worse, EA decides to pop up tutorials windows WHILE you're racing real time, and it totally blocks the sight -- Your car is still on the track! Does the development team seriously believe humans can read and race at the same time?? There are no pause, save, or reload game options, remember? So if you screw up a game in the middle of a race, you can't even cancel the race and start over -- You have to spend another couple of minutes wasting on a losing game, then evade the cops after wards, then drive to your start point again to do the same race again. This is really a bad experience, and I hates playing it. Even the good graphics won't save this game, it's done for.

You buy this game expecting to get a decent "Need for Speed" experience, but this game just is not that. I purchased this game on a whim, since my friend who has moved out of state, wanted to play a game together. He suggested NFS since of course, how can you go wrong. Well, the user interface is horrible. I have been playing online games for years on all platforms, Xbox, PS4 and PC and I have never come across a game like this. You would hit leave game and it would say that you did but really you are still in there. We could not even easily get into the same lobby, because when you sign in to this game, which is by the way "ALWAYS ONLINE," it procedes to put you into a game that is already almost full. There are only 8 players in a lobby for this "open world" game too so you can imagine that that fills up almost instantly, so by the time you go to invite a buddy, then the game is full, then you try to join his or her lobby, then their game is full. Instead of giving you the option to start your own lobby, you need to go to the settings which is buried underneath everything else to "find another crew." Then the game will precede to put you into another full game. Just a big headache, especially when you are just looking to kill some time...

As a long time fan of the NFS franchise, this title left me disappointed yet hopeful for the future of the series. Always online requirement means that you must have an Internet connection established, otherwise you're unable to play the game, period. It also means that if EA decide to take servers offline, you're left with a worthless disc. The physics are also pretty much the worst I've played for an arcade racer. Phantom assists occasionally push or pull cars into walls for seemingly no reason and will be the bane of your street racing career. The story is aimed directly at energy drinking adolescents in an effort to romanticize the street racing/underground car culture, but only comes off feeling try hard and cringe inducing. A few highlights include the solid graphics from Dice's Frostbite Engine, a decent car list, and an as yet unbroken promise from the developer to keep updating the game freely(we'll see how that pans out in the long run)... Overall, it's only a mediocre game that I'd have a hard time recommending at this point in time. Hopefully the devs are true to their word and keep working towards polishing the game, but it's one that would have benefitted from a delayed release, as it currently feels mostly untested and unfinished. Don't buy this one at full price.

Fun open world arcade racer ruined by online DRM

The biggest complaint I have about this game is the always online DRM. You must be connected to EA's online servers at all times during your play, even in single player mode. If your internet is down, or if PSN is down, or if EA servers are down, your disc is a coaster and you will be unable to play the game you paid for. Even a brief interruption in service in the middle of a race will kick you to the main menu, losing your progress. Having said that, the game is pretty fun and a relatively straightforward platinum trophy. There are a variety of events in the open world that focus on speed, drifting, outrunning cops, etc. The drifting events in particular were the highlight, especially the ones where you have to drift through a series of twisty turns while maintaining proximity to other racers doing the same thing. I would recommend buying the Nissan GTR as soon as possible, tuned all the way to the left for drift events and tuned in the middle for everything else. It has very nimble handling whereas some of the other fast cars like the Lamborghini Aventador handle clumsily like a tank.

First off I have not bought this game yet. My friend owns it and I've played a little bit. Second don't complain that the developers evolved the game into a online imersion. Online is what they advertised so don't be surprised if like every other real time game the game continues after pausing. I like that there is no pause menu. It's pointless to pause a game if it doesn't actually pause. I.E. eso you don't pause you open your invetory or map and you can still get attacked and killed while in it. Third I like the new leveling and reputation system. It is completely simple. And the core of what makes you want to play with friends. Get a crew and build rep raising h€££ around the city like previous need for speeds but this time with friends and against real people. Who know you might race your boss. And finally burn rubber not your soul.

...to the days of Need for Speed Underground. I've purchased and played nearly every Need for Speed game since and they've flip-flopped from Burnout arcade ridiculousness to Gran Turismo/Forza realism and back again. This is a good middle-ground that includes lots of aesthetic customization options (not as extreme as the Underground games) and handling fine-tuning with amazing visuals and fun driving mechanics. Drifting is easy and very satisfying. The cutscenes are really cheesy, but they do provide some back-story that allows for a little extra motivation to complete races. Although I haven't obtained all the random collectibles, I already have the platinum trophy for this game, one of the easiest I've ever worked towards. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

The variety of cars, customization, tuning, and sensation of speed is all present. However I can't help but feel like there's something missing with this game. There's not much to do after you've completed everything within the game. I wish there were lobbies as an option included with alldrive, since racing or drifting against someone online is relatively rare. The free updates are great and add a lot of content into the game, so hopefully they'll do something to adjust multiplayer, because as of right now, there is barely any competitive multiplayer. I spent more time tuning and customizing my cars than actually racing against other people in them. Still, it's a great game and the city, music, and even the cutscenes are good and add to the scene of underground racing.

Long-time Need for Speed fan but this one missed the mark. Having the online all the time feature is unnecessary. While the map is quite expansive, it is too big for its own good. Driving constantly back and forth across the map to reach destinations is time-consuming and makes me lose interest quickly. The constant night-time is also another disappointment. This map is well done but would have looked much better if we were allowed to see it during the day-time as well. I realize that NFS is trying to get back to its racing roots, but I actually kind of miss the Hot Pursuit mode with gadgets that aided you in escaping and cops that actually made it hard to get away. I barely run across any cops when playing and yet a specific storyline is tied to running up your fines?

NFS is a fun game to play for fans of Need For Speed. The game play does have good feel to it and the customizing of the cars is a great way to put your own touch onto it. NFS did take a big step with this one and I will give them congrats on it. There are some issues with the game play. The first one is its a single player game. NFS was known for the races between other players/ friends. I don't know how many times I would race my friends and have fun. The second one that popped out is the CI players or other racer during a race that are not involved with the race that you are in. The crash into you and I have gotten upset at the game a few times and lost a few races as well. Overall I would say that this game did take a big step and I still play it. Good Job.

I like the feel of the cars in Need for Speed. Doesn't take it serious as a racing game as Gran Turismo. Which felt annoying to drive the cars. The story is annoying at times because they have you do the same races some times even when you did them before during free roam. The characters love to call at any time to inform you that you have neglected them and wish to have some face time. But it is nice that you could do the whole campaign with a buddy. Although when you get to the exotics, they feel less "super car" for some reason. I improved my M4 to compare to an super car...still this game would be fun if you enjoy drifting around and drive time with a friend or two.

Alright if you have been a fan of need for speed since the PS2 days this game is a definite throwback to the good days. It is only online though, so you must have a subscription for ps plus or xbox live. The graphics are crazy good. The driving is good as well. If you're looking for a street racing game this is it. The only con I would say is the cops, it's hard to get chased and the chases aren't all that intense as they used to be. For the next game they should bring the cops back like in need for speed most wanted, running through roadblocks, totaling cop cars, getting chased by like 12 cop cars. Enjoy it, you won't regret it!

I've finished the game and unclocked every thing, so I've had my full experience with this game. All I can say about it is it's very bad driving mechanics, the cars are almost undriveable. I've had arcade games play better than this. Don't let them fool you when they say there's a lot of customization. No car can be completely customized since many of the parts will be locked and unchangeable. The whole advertisement for it was a sham. The only reason I give it a 2 star rating is because the one thing it does very well is the graphics. The game looks very good but it plays horrible. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I got this game for my husband's birthday and he was very excited that, without the violence and drugs, he'd be able to play it with our 9-yr-old son. There are film clips to start off a story... that take forever to finish, and if you stop it and restart later because you run out of time... it starts all over again. Then there are random clips every so often that are just annoying enough to make you want to leave the room. Overall though, the racing is fun, it's fun to watch (it is also a single-player game, btw), and there are tons of cars and options that make it pretty awesome.

Pretty cool game. It is a lot longer than I thought and it can be really fun. My favorite Need for Speed of all time was NFS Underground 2. This is basically the 2015 version of that. However, Underground 2 was way better. If you are into the NFS series you will definitely enjoy this game. It includes circuit races, sprint races, drift races, time trail and a few other types of races that are basically a combination of them all. The only thing that it is missing is drag racing which I really enjoyed in the Underground series. Overall, it's a pretty good game.

I still gave this 5 stars although I would like to see some additions made in the future. Hopefully the production team will produce DLC to accommodatem. Great graphics and i love racing other online players. Styling up the cars with different parts is awesome just like NFS underground. Only thing I wish was i hope it wasnt raining 99% of the time in the game. Maybe some future game updates can include daytime changing, more cars to choose from, and more selection of parts and rims. Also, good job on making each car sound uniquely different as they naturally should.

I was looking for a game where you can pick up and start racing the car you want. Something comparable to GT or forza. This is not that game. This is one where you have to build up by doing idiotic street racing missions and continue to build a "rep" I could care less for all that. If you're into that it's good but I like more of the real life simulation type racing games. One thing I do like is the customization aspect of the cars. Other than that I stopped playing it due to the sheer stupidity of the missions and storyline.

This game is muchhh better then the recent ones they put out. Actual street racing the story line aint bad. The only things i didnt like was. Its always dark theirs no daylight. It goes from dusk to night then repeats lol i understand racers come out at night but all the nice graphics would be more visiable if it were light. No biggy tho the cops in this game are a joke. Esp. Towards the end driving a 1000+ hp lamborghini. Just gun it and ur gonee. I kinda liked the pursuits in most wAnted for the ps2. But overall 4/5
