My first smart home gadget, and I got it at a great price. I've always wanted a device like this that allows me to play music, watch TV (via my YouTube TV account), and acts as a Bluetooth speaker that can pair with my PC or my phone. I nearly bought a Bluetooth speaker on Amazon before I suddenly realized that it would be great to have a screen as well and discovered this device after doing a little research. It also acts as a digital photo album with my Google Photos account, which is lovely. You can browse the web on it as well, though the controls are obviously limited (and it is a bit slow, especially on websites that are weighed down by ads).
One slightly irritating thing is that there seems to be no way to stop autoplay on YouTube Music. You can request any song you want, but afterward it'll keep playing random songs it thinks you want to hear until you stop it with a button press or a hand gesture. In terms of sound quality, you shouldn't expect audiophile-level sound, but for me the sound level and quality are more than good enough for my kitchen. The bass is actually noticeable and not bad at all.
Hi John, thanks for choosing Nest Hub (2nd Gen) as your first smart home gadget. We're glad to hear that you are enjoying its amazing features. We do apologize for the annoying experience you had when playing YouTube Music.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that may be helpful with the issue: - Make sure your music provider accounts are linked to your speaker or display. If it's already linked, try unlinking and then relinking your account. Here's how: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7551876 - If you're not getting the music you expect, be more specific with your request. a. Add "...by [Artist]" to your request. (Example: "Hey Google, play a song by Sia.") b. Add "... album, playlists, song"" to your request. (Example: "Hey Google, play my morning rock playlist.") - If you want to listen to music that's not from your default service, add "...on [music service]" to your request.

I bought this as a media player for my house plus its a good reference point when the grand kids ask weird questions.
Thankfully the cat can’t say “Hey Google” although she does talk to the screen saver.
It’s also a good voice assistant for a smart house my wife prefers her over Alexa.

The Nest hub is an excellent way to control all your smart home devices. Its definitely way better than Siri when it comes to understand commands and compatibility with products. The screen size is ok. I would recommend going for the bigger Hub Max, but the price of this one vs. the Max is significant. You can usually catch these on sale for $49. While the Hub Max lowest price I’ve seen is $150. The touchscreen is very responsive and the speakers work fine, just don’t expect it to have audio like an Apple Homepod mini.
I have been using three of these around my house for over a year. Two are working fine and one already has the screen failing. There are color lines through the LCD screen that have made it difficult to see whats on the screen. Although, it still works and responds to commands, the screen is definitely an issue. I have these hubs synced with google cams all around the house and I enjoy being able to see my front door and all my Google Cams with a command. I usually find myself using it with my Nest Thermostat as well, and use it as my daily alarm clock.
The overall quality for what you pay is fine. I know my screen is now broken, but for $49 Im not going to complain. I will mention that I never used the touchscreen on the hub that has the LCD screen broken. I barely even used that hub so I would have expected a much longer life expectancy. If Apple had a LCD screen I would be all over it, and would pay the premium. But im not going to pay the premium on a Google Hub. There just isn’t many options out there for a smart hub with a screen except for Alexa products and Google for the most part.

So far so good - fairly easy to use if you’re familiar with apps. Pairs well with other google devices. Clearly understands my requests and can be programed for routine automation.
