This is my firts Nest product. Since I previously had a deadbolt installed, install was very easy for me. You simply remlve your old deadbolt, and install the new wifi Nest/Yale deadbolt. This took me roughly a half hour start to finish including installing and setting up the Nest app on my note 5 phone. You can keep the passcode to unlock the deadbolt via the touch keypad, or simply create your own, and or give each user theyre own code, while also giving guests a different code thats usable during certain time periods of the day/week! Its nice that you can lock/unlock the deadbolt via the app by holding the lock/unlock button or via a keycode on the touchpad. The deadbolt uses 4 included double A batteries, and should those die, you simply use a 9 volt battery to give the keypad juice before changing the 4 double As. I really like that this uses no key to lock/unlock, which to me means no extra key to lose or carry on a keychain. The kit includes a small nest hub that you plug into any power outlet, which connects via 2.4 ghz wifi, and then connects to the deadbolt via wifi. Setup of both the hub and and deadbolt is a breeze, as well as setting up a new nest account via the nest app. I highly reccommend this item for any tech savy person looking to ditch a key from theyre keychain. Ill also need to replace my door handle to match the brushed nickle finish, as mine were polished brass.

The Nest x Yale smart lock is exactly what I have been waiting and looking for. I have been in the market for one of these devices for a while now and of all the ones I have seen for sale in places like Home Depot, there was always something holding me back from making the purchase. Usually issues were quality, ease of use, appearance and so on. Well… if you have been in that situation as well, this is probably the lock for you. The box comes with a lot of hardware inside. There is the outer lock, the inner lock and mounting plate, a good bit of screws, instructions (with drilling template if needed), strike plates and the inner lock. Having never changed a lock before it seemed like a bit much but the instructions were pretty straightforward and there are some great tutorials on Youtube and on the Nest website. I hit a few snags upon installation but nothing that was the fault of the Nest x Yale lock. My first snag was the old lock I had had a round bolt with no strike plate so I had to chisel out a groove for the strike plate to fit into in my door. Second hiccup was that the old lock installation did not have a good fit with the new deadbolt / frame strike plate. Over the years my door has started hanging at a tiny angle as the house settled so this tiny misalignment caused the bolt to not align properly. Again, not an issue with the lock but it was a learning experience for me with the installation. My fix was to use the old strike plate instead of the included one as the size is slightly different and it worked on the old one. I would imagine a good chunk of houses might have a few snags as well so if any of it seems too daunting don’t forget that Nest always offers Nest Pro Installation with local vendors if you want to pay a little extra. Once I got it installed and aligned my next snag was figuring out how to get it working with the Nest app. I will save you some time. There is a Nest Connect hub you can pair with the app first. The website says you have to be connected to Nest Connect or to Nest Secure in your app before you can use the lock. Once you pair the Nest connect, scan the QR code on the lock itself (in the battery compartment). It then works flawlessly. Here is how it works… When you leave the house, touch the “Yale” button and it locks the door with a nice tune that plays. When you get home you can open your door via the app or you can put in your personal pin on the door. Each user of the house can get a personal PIN number to make things easier to remember for everyone. If you have a guest in the house, you can give them a pin as well so they do not know yours and so you can cancel it once they leave. The lock offers a privacy mode so no one can get in unless they use the app, kind of cool. It looks cool on the door but I will have to repaint my door as it has a different shape compared to the old round lock I used to have, a minor inconvenience but one more thing to do. This thing has a easy to use user interface, looks great, has wonderful app support through Nest and is very reliable. I am curious how long the four AA batteries will last but if it is like other Nest devices I should get a warning when they are low. A great purchase overall.

So first off, we had the original deadbolt lock on our front door. This Nest Yale lock only took me 45mins to install by myself (34yr old female) and up and running a few minutes later. Connecting the nest connect and lock to the app took a few days. in the end all I needed to do was remove the app and re-download and I got it working but I had to call nest for help. they were super nice and helpful. my home is old so I had to notch out a bunch of my door/wall for the lock to smoothly slide to lock. if there is anything rubbing it while it tries to lock, it will stop and re-open. so I will lock and try to open it just in case it didn't lock. no fault of the device but my home also shifts so I imagine this lock needing to be readjusted at some point. I like the app and how I can change the codes randomly, lock and unlock from the app when I'm not even home and I feel good knowing I can see that my home Is locked up and secure. I say 5 stars.

You can’t go wrong with this door lock. Auto lock after x amount of time, lock/unlock from the app, temporary codes on certain days at certain times, no outside key; therefor is completely tamper proof, and prongs at the bottom for a 9v battery to temporarily use to get in if your batteries die. On top of all that, the design is very nice.

As someone that was already using two of the second generation Nest thermostats in the home I was really interested in trying the Nest x Yale lock. After installing one of the Nest x Yale locks I even went and bought another for the garage side door. Installation is quite easy and I'd recommend having the YouTube installation video on a device nearby during the installation. Ideally, watch the video a few times to familiarize yourself with the installation of the lock and then get all the tools together and the installation should be quite easy. Nest created this YouTube video themselves and so if you first find a video that was created by someone else and posted to YouTube, I'd recommend finding the official one also. Installation took me about 30 minutes and would have been quicker if the previous locks hardware was the same size. I therefore had to use a small wood chisel to resize the cutout on the side of the door. Nothing too challenging but having a chisel available would be recommended. You don't want to have to run to the hardware store with the lock removed from your front door. I have added a picture of the tools that I used for the installation. You may not require all of them but these tools were what I used for the installation myself. Beyond the installation the lock operates as you would expect, using passcodes to enter the home. The Nest x Yale lock operates on four AA batteries that are included. The Nest app will alert you as the batteries nead replacing. I'm really impressed yet again with a Nest product and look forward to adding additional Nest products to our home in the near future.

The Nest/Yale Smart Lock is an impressive device that provides streamlined security. The installation and setup of the Smart Lock are pretty easy. It took me about an hour to install my Smart Lock with hardly any frustration. Setting up the Nest network and app is easy. Keep in mind, the app and Nest function isn’t required. If you want, you can use the Smart Lock keypad and nothing more. It’s up to you. But know that using the app with the Smart Lock provides more features such as locking the door after you have left your home or getting notifications if someone has tampered with the lock. You can even create a temporary entry code for someone. I know that there have been many situations where a friend wanted to drop off something but wasn’t comfortable leaving it on the patio. Now I can assign them a code and the app will notify me when they have used the code. My other concern was with the touchpad and whether someone might be able to ‘figure out’ what the entry code is. The Nest/Yale Smart Lock touchpad doesn’t leave fingerprint traces when you use it. Speaking of the keypad, it wakes up right away when you touch it and recognizes your code the first time you use it. There aren’t any of those entering the same code several times moments. If there was anything that I wish I could change about this Smart Lock would be the navigation through the app. It can be frustrating at times but in no way does it compromise the security of the Smart Lock. The Nest/Yale Smart Lock is a great device that will have you leaving your house keys behind.

Purchased this smart lock after debating whether I was comfortable not having a physical key for entry into my house. While it takes some getting use to, the lock is amazing. It’s sleek, extremely well made, and has some functions that really make it an excellent addition to your smart home. My favorite functions are: 1) the lock has a privacy mode that can be activated at night or whenever you would like to turn off the keypad. The only way to unlock the door would be through the nest app. 2) each family member can be given their own electronic code for entry. There is no need for them to have a nest accoun themselves. 3) the keypad is battery powered and is not WiFi enabled- this is a great thing. The smart lock tethers to the nest connect to enable mobile access. This gives me piece of mind in the event someone was to attempt to hack the lock directly. Overall, very pleased with the lock. Nest doesn’t disappoint.

Love this Smart Lock. It integrate perfectly with my Google Home and other devices. I have it installed at my Vacation Home, where Friends and Family have access just by entering their 8-digit personal code. I get notification via Cellphone App every time the door is unlocked/locked and who's code was used. When I stay for extend time and use the lock daily. Very convenient with auto unlock/lock feature, or leaving the house with just Cellphone, ID and Money. Batteries last about a years, but with our minimal use it should be longer. If the batteries do die, you can use a 9v battery as a back power supply.

Upgrading to the Nest X Yale smart lock has transformed both my home and BnB experience. The self-installation process was a breeze, which I appreciated as a hands-on guy. Its seamless integration with my existing smart home ecosystem has not only bolstered security but also simplified property management. I can control access remotely, which is vital for my BnB guests, granting them unique codes that enhance their check-in process. The real-time alerts and auto-lock feature offer added security and eliminate the ‘did I lock it?’ guesswork. Plus, the sleek design of the lock adds a touch of modern sophistication to my properties. It’s an investment that pays dividends in security, convenience, and peace of mind.

The Nest Yale X lock is amazing! I have had this lock for about a 2 years now and I have to say it works flawlessly. Now I did have an issue in the app with the setup in connecting Nest Connect but once I got that taken care of, its been working without a hitch. It's great not having to dig out my keys every time I get home. It also gives me peace of mind when I am away from home if I feel as though I may have forgotten to lock the door, it will tell me. As I stated I have only had it for 2 years so I am impressed that have not been replaced, but there is a way to hook up a 9 volt battery to it if you get locked out because of dead batteries. I believe the app will tell you when the batteries are starting to run low. The app is very easy to use and there are many features that makes everything a breeze, for example you can add family, guess access to enter with a code either temporary that expires or full access. Overall, it's a great product and works like it should, very happy with it and the Yale brand always making great products.

The lock was very easy to install. It takes only a few minutes to install the lock on the door and only a few minutes to get it set up through the app. The lock does not have WiFi so if you do not have a Nest Connect from a previous product you will need one. Nest Connect setup is easy just add it as a product through the app by scanning the code on the back of the Connect. It just has to be plugged in close enough to the door for the signal to reach. I have two locks using one Nest Connect in the middle of the house. The oil rubbed bronze which i chose matched my existing knobs. Once the knob is installed it checks the lock to make sure it can lock completely, otherwise some door adjustment may be needed. Its very easy to unlock or lock the door with the app or lock the door with the Google Assistant. You can also ask the Google Assistant for a door status and it will say whether it is locked or unlocked. With the app you can give each family member a code and see when and who opened the door. You can also give guest codes. The lock also has a privacy button so that no one can use the keypad on the outside and get in. When leaving from the outside just push the Yale button and it locks itself. The lock is easy enough to use on the keypad my 3 and 6 year old can unlock the door. The keypad is blacked out when not in use for a sleek look.

One of the items that I was wanting for my smart home was a better than average front door lock. I was really excited when Nest announced their partnership with Yale for this lock. While the price is steep, even compared to other smart locks, it fits perfectly into my environment. Installation is very simple. If you have ever replaced a deadbolt lock before then you will not have an issue with this one. Setup and programming is very simple if you already have other Nest devices. Even if you don't it basically is following the prompts on the phone app. And if, which I doubt you will, have to contact customer support they are some of the best I've dealt with. I love the touch screen! I had a older lock with physical buttons and it was fine for a couple of years. But the screen looks awesome on the door. Actually both sides of this lock are aesthetically pleasing. Maybe not a good fit for every home, but I like it. You can use the Nest phone app to lock and unlock the door. Not the most convenient solution for me but it works flawlessly. I wish the was a bluetooth e-key feature. Still, the screen is brilliant. Note: this is not like a phone screen. You need to go a bit slower when entering your code. If this is an issue you may want to use the app. You can now also add the lock to your Google Assistant routines. So when I run the bedtime routine it now has a step to make sure the door is locked. Nice. You can also ask Google to lock you door. You can't unlock the door with voice commands but this would be a security issue. But you can also Google to check the front door lock and get its current status. Things I don't like? Can't really think of any with the exception of I would like to see more smart features. My experience with Nest over the last two years is that the do regularly add features even if it does seem to take a bit longer than I would like. Overall this lock is the perfect addition for any smart home, especially if you already have the Nest doorbell. I'm sure there will be integration for both very shortly. While the price is higher than most of us would like I will say I'm happy spending the money on this one.

This lock is working perfectly for me as I have two nest outdoor cams and a nest hello. I have all my things in one app. the installation was easy. Any one can do it. Getting people access is a breeze. the Lock works perfectly every time as long as your door is aligned correctly. We got this because our daughter loses her keys all the time. No we know when she's home because it will alert us when her code is used. You can do alot with access within the app. I like being able to unlock the door when i pull up. no keys. I think this is good for safety and at night instead of fumbling keys. You can lock the door with your voice with the google assistant. You can not unlock it with your voice for security reasons. I wish they would add that with a special code for security. The lock is working beautifully so far

First and foremost. It does what it is supposed to do. We got this lock because we don’t like the notion of leaving a spare key hidden somewhere. And once you’ve locked yourself outside one time you’ll see just for that purpose alone is a reason to want something like this. It works wonderfully once set up. But that’s the problem. Getting it to connect to our WiFi was a pain in the butt. It took like 40 minutes to get our router and the Connect to sync. And then we bought a new router about two weeks later and guess what. Took about 40 minutes to find new router to sync. And then changed router password and took probably 5 minutes to sync it that time. Other than the sync thing it works flawlessly. I can unlock door from my truck before I go in home with the app. I never have to worry about forgetting my house key. My kids have a code and I know when they get home or open door. Having the option to set up a guest pin and then put a time frame on when their pin can be used is great as well. That way if the neighbor wants to walk the dog I can set them a pin and time frame it can be used.

The lock itself it unremarkable. It just does what any electronic lock should. Prompts you for the PIN, and if you get it right, it opens up. I do like the fact that anyone can lock the door from the outside, just by pressing the Yale button once. The app is equally intuitive. If the current state of the lock is open, then pressing the main button in the app closes the lock. Press it again and it opens again. Simple. However, the app also performs a history function that appeals to the control freak in me. It records a time stamped event, each time the state of the lock is changed, and also who changed it, if it knows. It records even manual flips of the lock state from inside the door. I'm not sure that all that is really necessary, but I like it. A word of warning. The app keeps you logged in, so that means that your phone is now a set of housekeys, for anyone who happens to be holding it. Even bad guys. That doesn't upset me. It is just one more reason not to lose my phone. A common fear of using this kind of lock is that bad actors will be listening in, as your phone communicates with the lock. But it doesn't work that way. Your phone talks to your Wi-Fi, using encryption. then your Wi-Fi transfers the commands to the Nest unit that comes with the lock, also encrypted. Then, finally, the command is relayed from the Nest to the actual lock. I believe this is done over Bluetooth, and is also encrypted. But even if someone was trying to fool the lock into accepting the previous signal, to open the lock the next time, that wouldn't work, because the Nest and the Lock change their code each time the lock is used. That makes it very difficult to do a man-in-the-middle attack on the lock.
