  • Great Switch for a Home Office

    When our branch office closed, I moved all of my IT equipment to my new home office. Unfortunately, the fans in all of the gigabit switches I took out of the racks in the server room were way too loud for the confined space of a home office, but I still needed more ports than the typical "home" gigabit switch offered. I have four laptops, two desktops, a SAN, two IP phones, a VPN firewall, four printers and a router connected to this switch and it hasn't missed a beat in the three months since I bought it. Since the power supply is external, there's almost no heat buildup, and I was able to mount it to the back of my desk against the wall, eliminating much of the cable clutter that much equipment generates. All in all, a great switch at a great price, and no more headaches from the incessant fan noise at the end of the day. I'd recommend this switch to anybody that needs more than the average number of ports.

    This switch costs a little more money but is better geared for streaming things like video and TV. Go to Netgear page to really compare the differences in switches... paying attention to the exact model numbers.
