Customers frequently mention the easy setup process, affordability, and reliability of the 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. Many users have praised its user-friendly installation and smooth performance, making it a popular choice for budget-conscious consumers seeking a dependable internet connection. While some users have encountered compatibility issues or concerns about the modem's DOCSIS version, these concerns seem to be less common compared to the positive feedback.

Netgear modems lock you into an ISP

TL:DR it won't work with a different ISP.
The point of buying your own modem is to avoid a rental, and freedom to change ISPs. Not with Netgear: it pushes different firmware for different ISPs, and wouldn't let you update/roll back on your own, see: https://kb.netgear.com/000036375/What-s-the-latest-firmware-version-of-my-NETGEAR-cable-modem-or-modem-router?language=en_US
The ISPs won't give you access either (at least Spectrum and Cox won't, don't expect others are any better).
Netgear support (the call center in India) didn't have an answer to why the company won't allow customers access to firmware versions (direct opposite of their router FW policy), just sends you to ISP. ISPs say it's your device, we can't manage it, we're not responsible for it.
Apparently the issue is known to Cox techs, but both Cox and Netgear still advertise it as 'certified for Cox': https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-certified-cable-modems.html
There are reports of the issue going back to 2019: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Cable-Modems-Routers/CM600-Spectrum-to-Cox-firmware-issue/td-p/1785354
Yet, they still advertise it as 'certified for Cox, Comcast and Spectrum (and more)'.
Buyer beware: if you don't want to be locked in your ISP (or forced to buy a new modem every time you change ISP), avoid Netgear.

Good Modem

Got this to replace my 3 year old failing modem. Was easy to set up, except it did require a computer that had Cat 5 Capability, which my laptop doesn’t have, so I had to temporarily relocate my desktop just for this. Minor inconvenience, but something to consider when purchasing. Have had zero issues with my internet since installation and synced with my wifi router with ease.

Opted for a separate modem and router setup after researching.
The CM700 allows download speeds of up to 1.2 GB and supports a 5G network.
Highly recommends investing upfront in a quality high-speed modem2.

Unsure of what type modem to buy I spoke with a Geek Squad member. He recommended this model after taking into consideration the specs of our computer, our internet use & speed and the type of router we had. We have a NetGear router so it is best to pair with a NetGear modem. Installation was not as easy as the instructions say. I had to use my phone to look up the self installation instructions and... "if I was having problems with installation-click here"... they kept referring me back to the initial set up page. Option 2 was "call your ISP", which I ended up doing. Less than 5 min. later I was up and running. I would have given it 5 stars if not for that. Have only had it a month. so hopefully, there will be no problems with it. NetGear usually has dependable products.

This Cable Modem is for USE WITH HIGH SPEED CABLE PROVIDER - make sure your cable provider is providing you very high speeds and that your cable provider approves the use of this modem with their cable system. This is one of the very best cable modems for high speed that a cable company will approve in 2019 and 2020 - in the future newer products my be introduced by NETGEAR so keep your self educated - but this modem will be great for many many years to come. THIS PRODUCT IS OUTSTANDING!

I grabbed this modem on a whim as I already had a cable modem running well yet it was a few years old (Surfboard with 8x4 DOCSIS 3.0). Specs between the two were almost on par yet I did notice my speeds weren't as consistent as they once were. My mesh system is up to date and even directly connected I wasn't pleased with the results and troubleshot everything I could so I gave this one a go. To my surprise, I gained at least 100Mbps DL and 5-6 Upload while my Smarthome devices seemed to be handled much better than previously (especially my August smart locks). I never thought it might be cable modem related, but the upgrade definitely was worth it.

Optimum approved modem list is very inconsistent on the web and the company could do a much better job publishing this information. Tried Arris 6190 modem and it was unable to connect. After further research I also discovered that Arris device suffers from Puma 6 performance issues. Returned to store and picked up Netgear CM 700 which works flawlessly. This device will save me costly monthly rental fees.

The modem works great for my Xfinity set up, and look great too. It's much cheaper and much smaller than the modem Comcast tries to rent to you and works every bit as well. Beware though that this particular modem does not have phone line provision so won't work with Xfinity "triple play". All in all a quality product and a great buy.

Netgear modem fixed a multitude of problems

Replaced an Arris modem with this and was the best decision I made for my home network. The Arris modem had erratic behavior and caused two IoT devices to become bricks when they tried to auto-update. I could not stream Hulu and other devices struggled. My home has 42 devices connected at once including smart switches, lights, TVs, etc. Once I installed the Netgear modem, leaving ALL wireless and networking the same, every problem dissolved and I have not had any issues for months. I will buy a Netgear modem everytime in the future.

Does exactly what its meant to do really well. I paired this with the eero 6 mesh system and now have consistent speeds in excess of 800mb across my home. No more dead spots, no more laggy load times - I can finally work from home anywhere in my home!

I have Xfinity service and constantly achieve DL speed of 355Mb/s and UL speeds of 13Mb/s. Simple to install yourself and a great price. Stop paying your ISP to rent their modems as they generally aren’t as fast as the service you’re paying for. Speeds will slow a bit if you use Norton VPN, but not enough to really notice.

I use to be a fan of Motorola and the Arris brand modems, however after having a few of them die on me within the first year, I had to find something else. I game a lot on Xbox One and every gamer knows you have to have good devices so you don't deal with lag and other issues. I have always owned Netgear Routers(night hawk) and never had issues with them, read up on this one and ended up getting it. It's been about 6 months now and never have to reset it like I did with all the other ones. This modem doesn't get hot and gave me very fast speeds. Highly recommend this modem to anyone that does online gaming, must have a 3.0+ Dos!!

I set up and installed this modem in less than 5 minutes and haven't had any issues. Doing an internet speed test the modem is sending the speeds that I want to my router with minimal ping. Not sure if it is exactly worth the price tag listed though. It feels light and kind of tacky, but still gets the job done. I'm using this in tandem with "NETGEAR - AC1750 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 5 Router - Black" and haven't had many issues getting the speeds I wanted. Great for apartments and small homes, but if not experienced or have a bit of a tech background you might run into trouble setting this up with your internet provider.

I have used this modem for Xfinity/Comcast service for the past 3 years. It works great, I haven't really had a problem with it dropping service. I would say once every 6+ months things get a little slow. When that happens I do a power reset and all the green lights come back. When you call and talk to Xfinity, just remember to provide them the MAC address and force them to keep at it from their side till it works. I have moved twice and both times service continued in the new place. Remember that when you call for support, their first response will be to blame it on your equipment. Just keep them honest and it will work.

After trying to decide which modem I decided to go with NETGEAR - 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - Black. It wasn't the most expensive or cheapest, it is simple & has worked great so far. No issues with my wifi or cable internet / provider. If you want just a straightforward cable modem this one works fine. My old modem reached it's end of life & I hope this one does just as well.

It survived heavy duty abuse at my house

This was an excellent purchase, as I had it for a year now. Otherwise I would have to rent it from my ISP. Basically if the modem survived longer than what you had to pay for rent then it's worth it. Also This modem takes veeery heavy abuse from me and my wife. We are using the internet all the time, play games online, video chat, etc. This modem occasionally needs to be rebooted but with the amount of use I think of it as normal maintenance. It has proven to be reliable and hands free after initial setup.
