After not being able to set this up I called NetGear support and after their trouble shooting failed they recommended I return and buy a different router.

If your device breaks with any Netgear device it better break in the first 90 days. Technical support expires after 90 days and you'll have to pay $50 for one day of technical support to even get an RMA to send the product back. I bought my router in April of 2018 and it failed in August. Used it normally and it just failed to provide and wifi signal or ethernet connection. Firmware is up to date and nothing wrong with it other than mechanical. The one year mechanic warranty means nothing unless you pay more money to have them "help" you. Do yourself a favor and avoid Netgear.

Recent 9 year Linksys basic router failed. Excellent coverage for 1.5k sqft. Full bars at opposite end of house with great speed.

Works fine ,but don't expect it to get faster download or upload speed to increase. Only your internet provider determines this by there equipment . Less failures connecting to internet failures.

Bought this one and it worked great...for 2 weeks. The wifi portion of the router failed. Returned it and bought the Asus router.

The WAN port failed after 9 months. No problem, right? The hardware warranty is one year. They'll only accept a warranty claim if you pay them $80 to troubleshoot it first! And since the warranty is Netgear's, BestBuy kicks it off to them and won't handle it in-house. So my device failed while in warranty and Netgear wants to charge $80 to troubleshoot it first. They claimed to have remotely checked the hardware WHILE IT WAS OFFLINE. When asked later, they said "it was a simulator, we can't actually check your device remotely. You'll need to pay the $80 for that."

Router instructions easy to follow, though appropriate computer screen failed to appear. No customer service number, only website. Was a bit challenging to install, but has solved some technology issues we were facing. Overall, very satisfied.

Reliable router to replace defective Belkin unit

I'm familiar with the Netgear company but this is the first time I've purchased a product for my home and home office use. So far the unit is successfully functioning. Have purchased a second unit as Mother's router recently also failed and I installed with the same router I'm presently using. We are hopeful the units function at least 2 years before needing to be replaced.

Easy set up, good range, reliable signal. Similar model from Costco failed within hours, and had to be returned. This one has been operating for a month. Quite satisfied.

Router worked fine for about 7 months then the issues started. Updated firmware a couple times but still connection to the internet would completely drop and could only be restored by power cycling the device. Eventually by around 9 months it failed completely. Returned for refund

So far this router has not failed me. I tried two others and they both failed after a few months. I notice it failing sooner but thought it was the service provider and not the router. Well, finally got one that works and so far still good.

    Poor Setup Instructions and Failed

    Posted

This thing took forever to set up with confusing instructions. There are 3 different sets of user names/passwords that need to be created but the directions don't have you set these up in a logical order. When I finally did get it to work, I unplugged it to move it and never could get it to work again is spite of carefully rereading and following the setup instructions. I made an attempt at using netgear online support but that was also unclear. I returned for another brand (linksys) which was very simple to set up.

This router reaches all of the corners of my house better than the prior one did, with both 2.4 and 5GHz signals. All of our stuff logged in well. The instructions are a bit weak: The button to allow auto programming of the password is hidden. Also, I had to manually update the software, as the auto download and update failed. But, the manual update worked fine. No resets since purchase a month ago.

Nice router, but parental control fails!

This is a nice router for the price. However, I purchased this brand because of their easy integration with OpenDNS for parental control. However, I could not log into my OpenDNS account using the Windows version of their Genie software, which is needed to administer it. The exact same login worked great using the Android version of Genie, so something is broken in Windows Genie. Eventually, I just gave up and used a "Circle with Disney" device (also at Best Buy) for parental control, so I am just using this as a plain router. It does have a VPN server built-in (but I have not tested it), and it has places to plug in USB storage, and Netgear supplies backup software (not tested either, but I plan to soon).

    UNRELIABLE!

    Frustrated

I bought three of these routers and within the first 6 months, port #2 failed on two out of three of them. Customer support was basically worthless. I was told that I would have to pay $17 each to get sent REBUILT replacements and send mine back. I researched it further and there are over 800 hits on the internet of either port 2 or port 3 failing - clearly a design related issued or manufacturing flaw. Netgear does not stand behind their products. Don't waste your time or money. I gave it one star because zero was not allowed.

2.4 GHZ Broke in 5 Months

Bought this router in 12/31/16 and it's now 6/6/17 and my 2.4 GHZ network is no longer working and nothing will connect to it. The 5.0 Network is working, but the 2.4 will not work. My thermostat and other devices that can't get on the 5.0Ghz network are just not connecting and Netgear Tech support is complete TRASH. This router is fancy, but Like ALL OTHER ROUTERS has failed. I can't believe that the Router has already failed after a little over 5 months. Of course outside of the 90 DAY support warranty and I'm not paying $50 for premium support. I'll just get another router. JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET THE GEEK SQUAD 2 YEAR WARRANTY TO AVOID THIS TYPE OF BS.

I purchased the Netgear AC1750 to replace an aging Apple AirPort router (802.11G, overheating fairly often; slow to cool back down; it needed to be put out to pasture). I got this, had decided to wing it (because, well, I've done router config a time or 5, including BSD computer based routers). After the first failure (wired connection worked like a champ, a couple of systems connected beautifully, the remainder kept getting invalid password), I assumed I had goofed up, reset the router using the handy dandy reset paper clip, followed the instructions (who knew! @@@@@@@ brought the router back online and. . still didn't work. Same issues. In fact some of the systems that could connect originally couldn't connect the second time. I went to work, researched this while awaiting the prepress workflow to chug through files, etc., got home, reset, tried again and still fell short. Returned the router, had similar issues with a D-Link 5300, and eventually resolved the issued with a Linksys WRT 3200 ACM. Note, after purchasing the WRT3200, I discovered in the news the word of the zero day exploit affecting both the Netgear AC1750 as well as the next step up (which I nearly purchased) the AC1900 NIghthawk. So ultimately, I cannot recommend the AC1750. I wish I could as Netgear normally makes phenomenally good networking equipment but this one fell way too short.

While ASUS and TP Link are solid brands, their 5GHZ routers leave a lot to be desired. I ended up returning them, and I ended up stumbling across this particular router because it was on sale. Don't let the lower price tag fool you; this is a solid router for the price. I manage to get relatively strong signals throughout most of my brick 2-story 1700 SQ FT home. I manage to get a solid 200MBPS download speed on the 5GHZ band if I'm on the second floor or about one two rooms away from the router. The 5GHZ band suffers naturally due to its shorter wave length if I'm on the other side of the house. The signal strength is excellent and consistent on the 2.4GHZ band, but the speed is a bit lacking at 40MBPS. Still, the 2.4GHZ band is NOT why I purchased this router anyway. The ASUS and TP Link routers I tried were inconsistent and sometimes the 5GHZ Band wouldn't even work on either one. Setup was also the breeze, and I love that you can access your router via your Smartphone. Also, I have this router setup as a hub for hardwired connections and as a wifi extender and it performs this duty excellently. The ASUS and TP Link routers failed miserably in this respect and repeatedly failed to assign IPs correctly when connected to. I highly recommend this router. Especially when its on sale around the low $100 price point!
