Problems experienced after adding a new device

It was frustrating working with Netgear Customer Service a few weeks after I purchased this router when its name disappeared from the list of available networks when I tried to add my work phone to my home network. Although I never changed the default password, the iPhone 5 from work wouldn't accept it. Then the router name disappeared from the list, and I discovered my laptop and iPhone 6 no longer connected to my home network either. Since it was late that evening when I discovered the problem, I contacted the cable company first the following day. Time Warner Cable helped me a bit; but since I purchased this router instead of renting it it through TWC, they had given me Netgear's help desk number. The automated prompts at Netgear couldn't understand my clearly spoken serial and model numbers, and it took several minutes to reach a human being. While I was waiting, an automated voice try walking me through some steps, but the voice went too fast for me to be able to follow, and it never repeated the steps. I found out the help desk is outsourced to India, and although the gal spoke English, she was difficult to understand. I was on the phone with the help desk for over an hour trying to troubleshoot the error. Through a series of complicated steps, the system was reset and all is right in the world again. I guess I am lucky that this problem surfaced within 90 days of purchase because otherwise, I may have been charged for the technical assistance.

The unit functions as a router and the WiFi connections have been as expected. The demerits are: 1) The wired side completely failed during a power failure (that is, all wired ports failed and didn't come back). So we got almost two trouble-free years out of this. But it feels like I bought it yesterday :( 2) This unit takes excessive time to come on line. Nothing brings you back down from a vacay like turning your router back on and having to wait MINUTES for the "internet to work". And actually if you have a complicated home no WiFi means "no harmony remote for TV" or something like that. We don't have the router in an ideal location so some locations within the house are as far as possible from the router, but one still gets signal. So we have no complaints on signal. I can't recommend a router that is poorly-constructed enough to have a major function fail in a power failure.

    Literally died after two days

I do not know exactly what happened, but two days after un-boxing it and setting it up the router stopped working. I get home from work, and see that my phone is not connecting to the WiFi automatically. I go into the living room and all the lights are off on the router, at first I thought maybe it came unplugged, but it did not. I tried resetting it and even plugging it into several different outlets to no avail. I would like to review its signal quality and speed. From the back corner of the backyard, about 750 FT and through two inside walls and an outside wall I was able to get the WiFi signal on my phone. The speed was steady, and as fast as the ISP would let it get (100 Mbps). I would have bought this again, but for $20 more I was able to get a Linksys router that has a better range and better reviews. I understand that I probably received a dud of a router so take my review as a caution that this thing could fail within a couple days (or longer time frame) from when you plug it in

    Average Performer

The key advantage of this wireless router is the configuration options that are not found in some low cost routers. The performance is okay, but not as good as I hoped for. The router has "beam forming" technology that is supposed to concentrate the signal in the direction of the device(s), but it's only on the 5 GHz band and not on the more popular 2.4 GHz band. This may be the reason the performance was not what I had hoped for. It's also important to note that while the router looks like the top of the line Nighthawk routers, it's not part of that series of routers. The most notable/obvious difference is that the antennas are permanently attached. The internal hardware is also a step down from the Nighthawk routers. The key features are a USB 3 and a USB 2 port, status lights (which can be turned off), some advanced routing features, and large antennas. Some of the downsides are lack of beamforming on the 2.4 GHz band, somewhat limited speed, and the size of the box. Overall a decent low cost 802.11AC router that should fit the bill for home users with average needs.

Our old router quit working and I needed a new router quickly as Thanksgiving was in a couple days and our family was coming in town with mutiple devices needing WiFi. I wanted a dual band but other than that I didn't know much else about them. I looked at prices and I wanted picked this one because of price and reviews. It seems to be working well all over our home and rec room downstairs. I do not like the brilliant lights shining out of the top. It like an airport runway at night. I keep it in livingroom and it surely lights that up at night mre than I like. I am often up at night having troube sleeping ad that is way too much light glaring at me. I"ve tried surrounding it with picture frames to block it but it still shines up on the wall and ceiling. So depending where you are going to place it keep that in mind.

Based on the excellent reviews online, I purchased this router to replace my old router which I couldn't get good signal in some rooms of my home. So with this new router, by connecting to 2.4Ghz band I have much better signal than my previous old router, but the 5GHz band give me similar poor signal as my old router in those rooms which is about 45ft away from the router. One thing you need to be aware is the usb 3.0 port share feature if that is what you are going to use. It just doesn't work with two of my hard drives. Tried using the Netgear help (phone and online chatting) and it's not really helpful. So I did some research, and seems many people had the issue. And on the netgear website there is a "NETGEAR Support ReadySHARE USB Drives Compatibility List", and for this specific router, the list contains only 13 usb drives from different brands.

Still can't get near the 200mb from Spectrum

I had a Netgear AC1000 that was giving me about 75mb on a 5G and 40mb on a 2G. I have Spectrum that pushes out 200mb. I upgraded, hoping I would get it closer to 200mb but this WIFI only jumped me to 110mb on a 5g and 50 on a 2G. It's better than before but no where close to the 200mb. It wasn't really worth the upgrade for me. I'm not noticing any difference when I use my devices and I have a lot of smart devices. 2 smart tvs, alro, nest, tp links, hue lights etc. 75mb wasn't bad to begin with but I was hoping this model would push me closer to 200mb. 200mb seems impossible but I've seen videos on youtube where others are getting 200+.

I bought this router to get better coverage in my house and the coverage was better, but I also was purchasing this to get Parental Control features so I can limit my children's use of late night Wifi and was surprised to find that for the most part there was no Parental Controls unless you join Disney Circle with a monthly fee. I did hunt in the advanced settings and found a way to have the internet access shutdown for time periods but that was the whole router (or atleast 5g or not). So if that is not a concern this is a powerful router, although the app interface didn't give you much control of the router settings.

I purchased this along with a Netgear CM400 Modem. The modem connected easily with my old Netgear router, no issues. I then tried to install the new Router AC1750 and the two would not communicate with each other. I tried everything I knew and even went back to the old router where again it worked fine. I reinstalled the new router and still would not communicate. I called Tech Support for Netgear and it took well over an hour to finally get the two to communicate. This included resetting the router over again. It seams to me if the two was manufactured by the same company then it should have worked and connected with each other without so many issues.

Misled regarding Dynamic DNS service bundle

When purchased, Netgear advertised this as including a free dynamic DNS partnership with No IP. Unlike the public free service from No IP, the Netgear deal did not require you to renew your public address once a month. Within the last two weeks, however, I and other users (see the Netgear forums) have suddenly and without any prior disclosure by Netgear or No IP been moved to the monthly renewal plan and told that if we don't want to renew our address each month we should buy the enhanced service. I don't like being misled, and if I do purchase a dynamic DNS it won't be from No IP, just as my next networking gear purchase will be anyone but Netgear.

Its kinda of a deal breaker for me and can see why this model was on sale. With the money I spent and now no longer able to return it ,Cant say Im happy with this product.

Maybe the installer did not go as smooth as I would have liked because it was my first time installing an additional router to the AT&T router that I already have at home. The reason I bought this one was because I needed to extend the range in my two story 4 bedroom house. The range was really minimal at best, it was no better than my current AT&T router. I ended up returning the product and just buying a plain wireless range extender that plugs into the wall.

    helped my signal with Frontier

since Verizon went to Frontier we seem to get buffering. Frontier tried to tell me it was because my modem was in the living room and PC was in the bedroom and going through walls slows it down. So I found out you can add this to get a better wifi signal and so far it works somewhat you can add it with your modem. Frontier will not ping into your own modem but this you can add to their modem and so far not much buffering in the living room but bedroom still has buffering I think its Frontier modem even after they sent a new one so not sure what the issues are.

This product came at a premium price, but after comparing our needs to the specifications of the routers available at Best Buy we decided it was the best one to meet our needs. We paid more than we wanted to spend, but wanted to be sure we got the service we needed. Once installed and still a bit later, I can say we have seen very dissapointed by how slow our internet conection seems to be. Even our wi-fi tv is laggy. If we determine a cause in our on-going research, I will surely post it. This product is just not what we thought we would get for such an investment.

I haven't experienced a difference in speed, but the Spectrum tech said the speed almost doubled. Best Buy rep told me this was a modem router, but it's only wifi. which I didn't really need. Product does not come with instructions and requires downloading an app, which is so annoying, especially when your modem isn't working and you don't have internet access. So frustrating.

The fiance and his son had an older model Netgear router when I moved in (it was part of their internet service package). It was slow and we often lost internet service altogether. Since his provider wouldn't replace the router unless it completely died, I bought the AC1750. It's faster than the old router, and our internet service is more stable. We still experience some buffering issues while streaming video, but it happens less than with their old router. It will do until Fiber comes to the boonies.

I have been a Netgear user for years, and found this on sale for a price I could live with. Unfortunately Netgear made some changes over previous models and features I expected have changed or were gone. Overall this works ok, has a standard web interface and supports my network. But I will be giving a bit more thought on my next router before simply choosing Netgear.

I like Netgear and had high hopes when I purchased this router. First thing I noticed was during setup the router software does not allow much control, but my problem was with the wifi. It had a good signal but speed would drop 95-110 to 30-35 after two or three hours and have to reboot to get speed back up. Checked for updates and checked settings. May have just been a defective unit, but after a week of no improvement , I returned it and got a different brand.

I've been buying Netgear routers for years and was hoping this model would follow in the footsteps of previous models that had outstanding range (my most important feature). Unfortunately, this one didn't live up to the rep. Weak signal in the opposite side of my home from where the router sits means this one is going back. I tried to mess with the antenna configuration, but it didn't help. I guess I can buy a range extender, but that's another $100. I'd rather spend that on a better router and have one less device to potentially fail...

I took some doing to get the router and our printer to recognize each other. I did call the support number for the router and after explaining to the tech the problem and him working on it for a while he advised that the problem was in my computer which is only a little over a year old and that the problem could be resolved if I want to pay for a one of there other tech firms to fix it. I declined and had my own computer tech come to our residence and he corrected the problem which was not in the computer. Not happy with there tech service
