I had to set up manually, which also wasn’t working. I could see that I was connected to the extender, but the set up never opened. After doing some online research I found an IP address to connect to and then I was able to manually set up the extender. After that, everything worked as described.

It plugs directly into a wall socket so no messy cables/cords.
