    Excellent Advanced Router

Overall this is probably the best overall router I've ever used. Very fast speed and reliable wireless through a multistory house without needing boosters. So far even with 10+ connections simultaneously it has not balked. Netgear setup wizard isn't the easiest to work through if you are Computer phobic, but the options available are very comprehensive allowing multiple levels of security and flexible Guest settings. The only real cons I can think of is a slow reset process compared to previous routers and the cost which hasn't moved since it's release, but it you need a top of the line non commercial product, this is probably the best I've come across.

This router promised that wireless would be blazingly fast. I set it up, and was extremely excited to give it the test. I was very disappointed. I upgraded an older WNDR3700. Honestly, the wireless on that router is better. This one has the range down and has the gigabit connection on the LAN side, but the stability of the wireless has not pleased me. For normal internet use and such it is fine. Try to stream Netflix on the WII and I got constant buffering issues. I threw my WNDR3700 up on the same LAN with a different IP range upstairs. (Makes it better for me to restrict the kids wireless and network settings.) I throw the WII back over the WNDR3700 and I stream flawlessly for hours. Shut it down to make sure I am not causing interference, put the WII back on this one, and it buffers constantly, On the wired side, this router is great. On the wireless side, this router falls. It has good wireless, works good for phones and computers, but when it came to streaming or transferring large files, it falls flat. The USB connections work great, the router itself is stable, and the router looks pretty. Bottom line about all I can say is "eh". I feel like my old WNDR3700 is still a far better product. It doesn't have QUITE the range, but it sure does come close! The USB connections are stable and I transfer large video files from my security server to USB drives for backup without an issue. I did do a firmware update on it a little while ago, but I haven't tried streaming since then so maybe the issue was fixed, but I won't know. I went to a wired ROKU 3 and love it. The router is highly priced and honestly, I would have to recommend the WNDR3700 yet. BUT, I have been Netgear for almost 15 years so I can only imagine this will get better. Just not quite its time yet. Oh, one more thing. No Genie for Windows phone yet.

You probably need to know what you are doing when it comes to setting up routers in order to have a really easy time setting this one up. But if you are buying a state of the art $199 router, then you probably do have a clue. Still, the manual is clear and easy to follow so if you are a little worried, don't be. As long as you read all of the instructions you will be able to set this unit up. The web interface is slick and cool and makes a lot of features available to the user. So not only is it very configurable, but it is cool to work with too. I have owned at least 10 different routers over the years and this is by far the best one hands down. The wired connection (I have a Linux server and my desktop rig connected to it via Cat 6 cables) is as fast as directly connecting through my modem (100mb service from Optimum Business) so the guy who is having issues must have a bad unit-take it back and get a new one guy Best Buy will let you do it for 30 days. You can set up wireless 2.4GHz and 5GHz modes along with guest accounts in both ranges. It has all the bells and whistles for the hard core gamer who needs to open ports or paranoid parents who like to shut down the internet at a certain time of night or block sites (it has very easy to use parental controls and the most extensive set of them I have ever seen). It has 2 USB ports for connecting printers or network storage devices. I have a 1.5TB hard drive attached for sharing music/videos etc. on the network and for storing computer backups. I eventually expect to have a NAS unit hooked up for all network storage needs and this unit makes this all possible. The wireless connection is EXTREMELY fast and all of my devices were a breeze to set up (Xbox360-wireless, 2 Blu Ray players- wireless, Mac Book-wireless, iPhone, Asus Tablet, my daughter's iPhone and both of my daughters' Windows 7 based Laptops) Guess what? Everything works flawlessly and at the same time and with no noticeable slow down on any device. The range is great (my iPhone picks up the network while I am still in my car parked out front). And above all else it looks really cool!

Fastest router I have had. I've noticed a difference in playing the Xbox and play station. Things seem to be a lot smoother. Wireless speeds almost doubled compared to what I had before. Mainly purchased a new router because iPhones would not stay connected. Have yet to drop signal or connection. Did not have to mess with any of the ports for Xbox. NAT was open when I connected it. Did have some issues during game play that were fixed with a router reset. No issues since. Almost a plug and play device. Did very little for a setup. Little pricey for what it is, but over all seems like a good product.

Great router. Bought two to create a bridge.

I bought this router after experiencing a degrading connection with my previous router after 6 years of use. It was incredibly easy to get it running and has plenty of options for advanced users. I grabbed another so I could bridge and stream HD content from a computer to a PS3, XBOX 360, and Vizio TV. After setting up the second router and moving it to its designated location, the firmware somehow got corrupted. A power cycle failed so I directed myself to the Netgear website and found a solution that required the firmware to be manually uploaded to the router via TFTP. It was back to life after five minutes. The range is excellent, a bit overkill for an apartment but it allows me to get two or three bars on my phone using the 2.4GHz band in the apartment complex office that is around 75 feet away. Each band can be configured independently with their own passwords and channel settings. I have the 2.4GHz band broadcasting while the 5.0GHz is strictly for the bridge. Other wireless devices connected are two tablets, one phone, and two laptops. Another point to hit is that if you are having Internet connection problems, call up your ISP and make sure they can see the router. In my case the modem had a built in router which would cause the Netgear to lock up every few days. After my ISP turned off the built in router within the modem the Netgear has performed perfectly.

Just bought this yesterday so can’t speak to longevity or dropped connections but will give some setup, performance and comment on other reviews I have seen. Reason I bought: My house is a 4300 sq. ft. L shaped two level. The router sits on the lower level at the “top” of the L, the poor reception areas are on both floors at the end of the foot of the L it’s about 70-80 ft. shooting almost parallel to a long wall and through a room with the air handler and hot water heater –that is to say there’s a lot of stuff impeding the signal. In those locations I could not stream HD or even SD on the Roku without serious buffering pauses when using my NETGEAR WNR2000 v2. The signal was almost always poor and running at less than 1 mb/s. So, I went looking for a solution. Considered getting a range extender but reviews weren’t that encouraging and I wanted to avoid the extra H/W and complexity if I could find another solution.. I’ve always found NETGEAR products to pretty much perform as advertised so when they said the R6300 had “Ultimate” (that’s some spec isn’t it, guess all things are relative)range I decided to give it a try in spite of: (a) the high price and (b) who really needs or can even use the 5Ghz band but, maybe someday I’ll have a device that can reap the benefits of the 5Ghz teaming with the 2.4 for 1300mb/s. Setup was a breeze even though I had no devices with the WPS feature. All my devices (HP PC and HP laptop running Win7, two Rokus, a Squeezebox and HP wireless printer all saw the router immediately and it only took entering the password to connect. Internet came up as soon as I plugged the router to the Comcast MODEM. I did not have to change any of the routers default configuration. I did ugrade the firmware immediately after getting it up and running. I ran a survey throughout the house using my smartphone as a “signal strength meter” and to see what the connection speed was (limited to 75mb/s by the phone). Not the most accurate but all I had to work with. First I surveyed with the WNR200 still connected to the I’net and the R6300 in standalone mode in various placements. I then reversed the roles with the R6300 I’net connected the the WNR2000 in stand alone. The readings for both routers regardless of their role were not consistent but when the 2000 was online downstairs and the 6300 upstairss the 6300 was clearly giving the best but not great overall coverage. Then it occurred to me that perhaps having two 2.4 Ghz devices sitting right next to each other might be causing interference. So, turned the 2000 completely off and resurveyed the 6300. Even in the previously hard to reach areas the signal was fair to good and getting speeds of 11mb/s or better which is plenty for my needs. Readings in the rest of the house ranged from good to excellent with 55-75mb/s speed. And the readings were more consistent which seems to give some credence to the theory the two routers were fighting over channels. My conclusion is that the 6300 does in fact offer bettr range/coverage than the WNR2000. Will let it run for s few days before deciding if the upgrade is worth the high price. Other reviewers have mentioned that the guest network was not operative. I didn’t try it before the firmware upgrade but it came right up when I configured it so NETGEAR has fixed that problem, at least in the one I got. Many reviews, tech mags and users, have said the 2.4 Ghz speeds were disappointing but the 5Ghz were very good. I can’t speak to the issue other than to say the speeds I’m now getting are much better than before.

I have had a DLink Dir-655 for sometime and was quite happy with the speed however there were always some issues like DLNA issues on PS3, slow Video through WiFi etc. I hooked this bad boy up and Whoa !!!. Everything is running at top speed. I get my Cable Provider's speed rating on every device in the apartment in every room. The dual bands allows me more bandwidth overall. Extremely happy with my purchase.

I was extremely pleased with the performance of the router, even tho' I don't have any other AC equipment the N performance blows away my previous Netgear router. I have a 3 floor townhouse and this unit is on the 3rd floor. I still get a great signal on the first floor. My only issue is that the router does not support a bridge mode behind another router.

This router works.better than anything I've ever tried. No need for router extenders anymore. I get great coverage for my entire 3000 sq ft house with no dead zone. Speed is also super fast. Buffering videos is like running item from your hard drive. Much better than my experience with the linksys 1750.

This unit is able to reach thru 1 interior wall, 1 exterior CMU wall and then 410' across a horse pasture to our barn office where I have a NetGear WiFi Range Extender located in the window. I am able send files and print documents to our network color laser printer with ease on the 2.4 GHz band. (The 5.0 GHz band works great on shorter runs, maybe 300'). My DSL modem is also a NetGear. Everything was plug & play.

Out of the box, fantastic fast and easy. Connected all my laptops, desktop, wireless cameras and my smart phone. I made all my own profile from new SID, new access passwords, saved all my details into a local file on my laptop. I attached my external HD and setup a share name for all my devices to access and works fantastically well. For some reason terabytes HDs have a smart setup that does not work on most routers, that's true on the Ciscos, Belkins and Netgears. Don't give up on a router, just because you external HD has those features. Get a dumb drive inside an enclosure and plug it to your router, and you'll see the wonderful world of sharing thru your router. I've been thru 3 routers in the last 3 weeks and the Netgear has been the only one with the easiness to install, best guie (Genie), flexibility for devices, and the price has just gone down from 199 to 169, making it a contender among greats, if not the greatest.

Although the price was higher than I wanted to spend, I bought this router because I had weak coverage with my old N+ router. That is no longer a problem and my desktop computer which is wired, is also getting better speeds. No blinking lights to tell what is happening with the connection but other than that and the price, a great router!

I bought this unit about a month ago. Initial install was a breeze till router indicated a firmware update was available. Since then I have spent hours with Netgear tech support going from level 1 to senior level to corporate customer care to level two support. Overall the speed connections are a improvement over my old Cisco router by about 30 to 50 percent. What I love is the range, I basically get a rock solid connection be it basement, 2nd floor or closed doors. The Genie software is nice touch but has many on again off again glitches. The one reason I got the router was to AirPrint. I got it to work prior to firmware update and since then it is pretty much gone. iPad shows printer but will not print. Also worse since IPad went to IOS 6. Tech 2 support says they are aware of the issues and have no solution. They suggested I try a Netgear forum suggested solution which they acknowledge they did not get to work in their lab. Tech 2 said not sure their technicians will get it to work...wow it is one of the advertised feature. I am outside my 30 day return and very upset. Excellent connection with very good speeds but marred very much by the software. Omg the use of external HD is extremely slow if you want to stream videos even pictures are slow. Even the ReadyShare printer is problematic to get it to work consistently...lots of unplugging USB and back in. Netgear tech support is awful with lots of holds, drops and lack of follow up.

I purchased this router after an unpleasant two-month experience with a Cisco/Linksys EA6500. This router only took 5 minutes to set up and worked as expected right out of the box. Flawless, and blazing fast. I am extremely happy, and only wish that I had purchased this router first instead of that miserable EA6500.

    Best Router Out There

I bought this router about a year ago and have had nothing less than a great experience with this router. There are 2 other Netgear Wireless Routers setup in the house (WNDR3700 and WNDR4300), both of which are subpar routers. At my previous place of residence I was paying for 30Mb internet and with my old WNDR3700 I was only getting about 20Mb on a good day. Had the service provider techs out to the house multiple times and was on the phone with tech support multiple times with Netgear and my service provider, neither of them could figure the issue out. So after the final straw of being booted offline for the Nth time one day I purchased this router and haven't looked back since. I would recommend this router to anyone who is in demand of fast instant connection and prolonged usage for gaming.

I purchased this router to take advantage of the 1750 Mbps 802.11ac capabilities of my new laptop, which means I am able to transfer files between devices on my network very quickly. This router is working well and includes a variety of extra features. It includes the latest Wi-Fi technology so I expect this device to last a long time.
