Combined it with my verizon router ro improve signal but I still got little to none, It's plugged into my office upstairs in my loft apartment, ceiling is wood so It shouldn't cause the wireless to suck, I don't know for sure tho if it is because of the netgear or the verizon routier....

    Very Disappointed with Netgear

Purchased this based on recommendation for Best Buy employee as we need something with range and speed to accomodate multiple devices. Installation takes only a few minutes and I was able to connect to the device without any issues. Problem was I could not access the internet. Did the entire reboot sequence while on hold with Netgear. After going back through the setup the Netgear guy confirmed that the setup was correct but unfortunately my PC was too dated to use the router. Solution was for me to purchase Premium Support from Netgear for 199.99 in order to reconfigure my adapter. I suspect this has something to do with the new technology but the website claims it is backwards compatible with A/G/N devices. Did not confirm this as I was in a rush to repackage this and take it back to Best Buy.

NEED A DEGREE FROM MIT TO USE IT

Decided to splurge and spend the big bucks to get what is supposed to be the best of the best. It very well might be, but I never got to find out. I am an amateur techy. I know more than most about technology but less than the experts. Original installation went as planned and all seemed well. With in a few minutes, all of my portable devices showed full wifi strength, but would not allow me to surf the web, or use apps. Eventually I called tech support. I could tell early on that the person I was dealing with was going step by step through a book that had been written for them but someone with real knowledge. After multiple configuration changes, she couldn't get it to work. I was told someone from the main tech support (ie. America) would call me back. I didn't wait for that. I returned it and bought the Apple Airport Extreme which I am extremely happy with. Now that is a consumer friendly product. Overall, it might be a great router, but I never was able to find out.

Looks great - Basics work poorly...

In a nutshell, I bought this router and installed it without any major problems. The WPS setup is a bit buggy and the documentation is sadly lacking. My two big office machines are hardlined to the router so there's no wireless loss. I have 100 Mbps internet service. With this router, all I could get was 45-50. When I disconnected the router and plugged right into the cable modem, I got 90-95 Mbps! After three or four unsuccessful attempts to work with Netgear, the tech finally told me he'd call me back after talking to his supervisor and "checking his resources". Well, I'm still waiting on that call. Seems like they're not ready for this net - gear. I'm headed back to Best Buy for something that works! You'd think for the price they could at least get the pass through to work...

regarding my NetGear R6300: I bought the first router in February. Within 5 weeks, around the end of march, I got a blinking green powerlight. Techinical support identified it as a firmware failure, and after 6 hours on the phone with me working on the router, it was working again. It failed again 2 days ago (6/12) with the same error; blinking green power light, firmware failure. Netgear agreed to send a new unit. I had different options for shipping from 'free', where I send my unit at my cost, and they send their new one, paid at about 18 dollars where they would send ground express, and then I sent mine with the shipping label included, or paid overnight for 30 dollars where I would get a new router the next day, and ship the router I have in back with the label. I paid the 30 dollars as I needed the router for my home office. It came today. I plugged it in, it did not power on. I checked the old router one more time, and it did power on (blinking green power light) so I knew the power cord was ok. I called netgear. They made me hold the reset button, power down (even though there was no power) unplug, plug, unplug while holding the reset button; nothing worked. Then they said they would send me another new router, but it wouldn't be there until Tuesday. I told them that they had not sent me a new router in the first place because the router they sent me did not even turn on; it was worse than the it was sent to replace. They said that they would send a refurbished model that was 'guaranteed like-new'. I asked if that was the same type they sent me today, and they said 'yes'. I told them I wanted a refund for my shipping and at first they said it was impossible. After a big hassle, and pretty poor customer service, they said they would 'put in a request' for reimbursement, but that it was not guaranteed. They also told me it was impossible to get a brand-new in-box router, only a refurbished one (like what I received today) was available. I told them that I want a refund then. They told me that was impossible. I asked to speak to the next person 'up', but I was told there was no one higher than the supervisor I was speaking to (Mike #46084...I also spoke to customer service agents Savy #64559 and Fred #46297), and I could not receive anything but a refund request for my shipping costs and a refurbished, 'guaranteed like-new', R6300.

    Don't Buy

I purchased the netgear R6300 (their beta basically). Speeds say up to 13000 Mbps, yes for the first day. Two connections broadcast, 5GHz and a 2.4 GHz. The 5 GHz works fairly well for maybe 24 hours when connected on my macbook air, then goes slower than a dial-up connection back in the year 2000. Also ReadyShare cloud is a program that gives you access to your home hard drive. This is offered on their lower model but not on their highest R6300? What a joke. I am paying top dollar on my service provider (massillon cable) and my old linksys had a more reliable connection than this peice of junk. Its a huge waste of money I insist on not buying any Netgear products you will very well regret it.

Bad review from a GEEK SQUAD Agent

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First of all, I want it to be known here that I am a former GEEK SQUAD field agent, which basically means that I did the in-home computer and home theater installations. I held this post for 9 years. So... I paid the $199 for this thing, thinking it would be the awesome, latest-greatest thing, and because after installing literally hundreds, maybe thousands of routers over the years, I prefer Netgear routers. I like the user-friendly interface and they are very reliable, usually. Here are the problems: The 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels do not seem to work well together. Disabling the 5GHz channel makes the router function normally. The reboot process takes 10 times as long as a regular N router, which makes setup a huge pain. Once set up, the router does not increase noticeable speed, nor range. I tested it with speed tests and range tests around my house and yard. I previously USED and RECOMMENDED the Netgear WNR2000, which is a mere $40. This router DOES NOT out perform that meager N router. This morning, after maybe 1.5 years, this router has completely failed. After many reboot attempts, I cannot even get it to a point where I can log into it with a hard-wired connection. The power light is just blinking and that's all it will do. So I dug out my trusty WNR2000, hooked it up and everything is back to normal, if not BETTER than it was with this router. Not sure what the warranty is on this thing, but pretty sure it's no more than a year, so I'm just out $200. DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER. Even their old G routers set up and worked better than this... and lasted for YEARS, just as the WNR2000 will. Oh well, lesson learned.

Performance not as good as expected

Seems to run slower than my previous router but so far does not drop connection as often as my previous netgear router which was the main reason I purchased a new one. I am hoping to take advantage of AC wireless protocal once available if you don't care about this then I would not recommend buying.

1st one was bad right out of the box. After 2.5 hours on the phone I was told to send it in for repair/replacement. Took it back to the store. 2nd one installed great connected right away and everything was good for 8 months. One night it disconnected. It took several power-ups to get back on and never could get my ethernet printer to connect. I did not give it much thought after a couple of weeks it shut down again. Several power-ups later it finally reconnected. Then a week later it gave out completely while I was in the middle of using it. After 3 hours of resets, reboots, and reinstalls, I contacted Netgear for an RMA. After 25 min on the phone with a REP that I could not understand and who obviously had trouble understanding me I asked for a supervisor. I had to get insistant before he finally said he was going to transfer me but after ringing and then going back to music (hold) 3 times the line disconnected.Netgear ultimately would not help and refused to give me an RMA. Even after send an Email to corporate offices.

Always use Netgear, that's no longer the case

I purchased an R6300v2 and it has run well. As well as my previous WNDR3700. I don't update the firmware unless I am having problems and have skip one or two interim updates since I purchased the R6300v2. But the latest firmware update promised to improve performance and I felt it was worth the process. I read the instructions and the owners manual. I had a couple of questions about the need to wipe the internal settings back to factory defaults, and a obvious error in the manual on how to enable/disable WPS. After searching Netgears knowledgebase and forums I decided to submit a quick inquiry to get the scoop straight from the horses mouth. What I got back was, it is out of warranty, we can't help you. I have been doing computer work for nearly 3 decades and I have never run into such a poor response to a user's inquiry. Not only that, they closed the inquiry in such a way there was no way to reply. So I opened another ticket and told them I will be going with someone else on my next wifi router purchase. I also told them I have purchase about a half dozen of their devices over the last 15 years and although I have always been happy with the product, their short non-response to a simple inquiry has convinced me to choose a more consumer oriented company. Clearly they can't justify their bare bones support on the basis that they sell inexpensive wifi routers. So the equipment works very well, but not so well, that I am willing to buy a product with the knowledge that in 90 days I can pay if I have a question about some firmware as yet to be releases.

Gigabit WiFi is great but there are no wireless devices or laptops out now that can accommodate the .ac speeds. people who buy this product are getting the fastest speed that their n decive can provide but nothing close to Gigabit speed. hold off on your purchase until wireless devices catch up!

Drops 2.4GHz Does Not Connect Easily to XBox 360

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Trying this again. I think because I mentioned it's a bear to set this up with an XBox 360 (with built-in wireless), BestBuy might not have posted my original comments. So, I use this for work as well as home. It did not let my XBox 360 connect to XBox Live out of the box (the XBox connected fine with the previous router). I had to manually set a static IP, open ports, and set up port triggering. All that done, XBox was fine ... but then the router kept dropping my 2.4GHz network, which was unacceptable since I work from home. Soooo, I returned the unit. Got a refund. I had my previous router, which I highly recommend: also a Netgear, but the WNDR4500 which sets up automatically out-of-the-box with the XBox and which never drops a network.

    Bad Connection Problem

Bad connection issue on all my devices from the beginning on the 2.4ghz side of the router, the 5ghz side worked well. I worked for two weeks with a technical representative from Netgear and could not resolve the issue. I brought another R6300, thinking that the issue was with the first router, only to find out the same problem existed with the newely brought second router. Worked with the technical representative again to resolve the problem, no,success. Switching back to my reliable WNDR3300 model until Netgear comes out with a fix.

Refused to connect to Surfboard Cable Modem

Bought the router today, 02/22/2013. This was to replace the failing wifi on my Linksys router. Brought it home, read the manual, connected it up and it refused to pull ip and DNS from the Surfboard cable modem. By-passed the router and directly connected to the cable modem, I was online no problem. Connected my Linksys WRT610N back up and connected right away. Tried the Netgear again and it refused to connect. I'm returning it tomorrow to exchange it for a new Linksys. I will never buy another Netgear product again.
