Even plugging in an ethernet cable could not get around the problem. The Netgear wireless network adapter appears to have overridden the motherboard WiFi and now everything once again works normally. A very cost-effective solution to the issue.

It enabled him to have wi-if again. We both feel as though the range on this isn’t as strong as what he had previously, but overall it works for what it was purchased for.
