    This USB adapter worked OK

If you need range and speed this is not the wifi adapter for you. If you need a value-priced adapter that will get the job done in most home use cases then it is a good bargain.

Pretty Inconsistent - Doesn't like media streaming

If you are a casual internet browser, this should be just fine. I bought one of these to replace an internal card in my desktop build in January and have stopped using it 3 months later. It would stop working and need to be reset once a day. I also tried on several occasions to connect it to my PS3 to host media files and it would shut down after 20 minutes which isn't very helpful. All-in-all, it's a very mediocre wireless solution that would work for casual browsing but nothing data intensive or sustaining, at least with Windows 7.

    Couldn't install it

I installed the program as recommended. Once it finished, it asked to plug in the USB adapter; the program got stuck searching for network device. I uninstalled the program and installed again with same luck. I searched in forums for a solution, several other users had the same problem, and so far there is no solution. It seems there is a conflict between Windows Vista and the adapter. I might try it in another computer which works with XP.

    Didn't work with Vista

I bought this product to use on Windows Vista. Spent 3 hours trying to install it and 2 and 1/2 of those hours with tech support to no avail. Product did work with Windows 7. However, after installing it, I no longer had access to my wireless printer. I had to do a system restore to regain it. Uninstalling drivers would not do it. I went and bought a comparable Belkin N300 adapter and I had it working with Windows Vista within 10 minutes. My only gripe with it is the adapter is a little big and takes up 2 USB ports.

    Installation software doesn't work

Don't use the installation wizard/software that comes with this adapter. I wasted a lot of time trying to get it to work. After a couple of emails to their customer service reps, we figured it out. You must install just the driver and configure the adapter with Windows.

Bought this so I could put my desktop where I wanted and not where the modem was and desktop HAD to be (according to the cable company) to connect. Worked with this for 4 hours to no avail. Went to return - didn't have receipt. I still have adapter.

I told the sales person what problems I am having and he said this should take care of my problem. It has not taken care of much and to some extent has made it worse. I now have to unplug the USB connector to make it work most of the time as it either locks up or fails to provide a useable signal.

    Awful for custom built computers

I got this adapter and was excited to put it to the test with our new wireless internet in my apartment. I spent about an hour of my own time trying to get it to detect from the CD and it didn't work. I spent another hour on tech support for them to tell me that it doesn't work on computers with over 4 gigs of RAM. That's ridiculous, is what i said to them. If you have a custom build computer with over 4 gigs of RAM, DO NOT BUY.

    Waste of time and money

I installed, uninstalled, reinstalled the driver to this about 4 times already. The driver installs without a problem, however, when I run the genie, it doesn't detect the adapter when I plug it into the usb port--and I plugged it in ALL my usb ports, too. Nothing goes beyond the genie window, stuck on "detecting adapter".....which never detects. I went on the Netgear customer support chat and told the rep about my problem, but she never replied to me. I waited 15 or more minutes, and the rep never replied to me! I'm returning this adapter and buying a different one from another company. I doubt I'll buy products from Netgear again, I wasted my time and my money.

Middle to higher end USB wireless adapter

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The store I shopped at didn't have much of a selection. I had to buy a adapter for a customer, and that adapter would eventually go into my tool bag. This adapter wouldn't run on a XP machine without it's own software. I like to use windows to control wireless settings but the WZC didn't work. My feeling is for $60.00 a USB adapter should almost install itself. I returned it the next day.

I purchased the USB wireless adapter, thinking this would be a good fix for my needs. I was wrong. The installation program locked up at the confirmation stage. Customer service could not help. I tried the item on several computers, both laptops and desktops, running XP and Vista. I could not get the thing to work on any of them. For the price, you would expect excellent quality. You will not get it. I cannot recommend this product.
