I was told that it couldn't be replaced and I would have to buy the adapter. I took another computer to the Geek Squad and was not having any trouble with the wi-fi card and was told I had to buy another adapter. I did not buy a second adapter. If an adapter is needed I would recommend the netgear 300. It works very well.

When it works, it's OK.

I can get some light browsing in, play some low-end games, stream movies - no problem. However, to get it working is often a mission. Every time I re-start my PC, I need to go through a cycle of unplugging and re-plugging the adapter (often several times). If my PC goes to sleep? Same thing only worse. I've tried messing around in the power save settings to make sure it's not that Windows is shutting down the USB ports to save power, but nothing seems to have resolved this problem. I've got this sitting on top of the desk using the included extension cord/dock. Without this (if it's plugged into the front of my tower directly), the signal is so poor as to be completely unusable. It does the job in a pinch, but definitely consider something more reliable.
