Customers are delighted by the N900 Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Adapter's ease of use, impressive performance, and reliable connection. Many appreciate its strong signal and wide range, even without an external antenna. The adapter is also praised for its reasonable price.

It works very well for streaming videos and music! Before, I had problems with my wifi reach. Now, Netgear N900 Dual band has done a good job on a PC that I use about 100 feet away from my wifi! I love this product and highly recommend it to everyone that has a PC that does not have wifi capability!!!!

I switched from DSL to FIOS recently. My computer was hardwired to my DSL router, but due to cabling issues the FIOS router had to be installed in a different location, downstairs and at the other end of my house. The Verizon tech told me that I wouldn't be able to get the FIOS speeds I was paying for if I had to use wireless access (as opposed to being hardwired), and he suggested adding a new jack upstairs (which would have cost $$$). I decided to try this Netgear wi-fi USB adapter first. It was extremely easy to set up (just run CD, plug in and go) and it even comes with a cable and adapter that lets you extend the range of the device. The only problem you might run into is if the USB ports on your computer are really close together and if you already have other devices installed, it can be hard to squeeze this in next to them. I did some speed testing after I installed this and I got speeds that are really close to the levels I am paying for (and when I mean close, I mean I'm only a few Mbps off of both my max upload and download speeds). I'm really happy so far, and this has exceeded my expectations!

Great adapter, horrible setup software

Let me begin by saying that this device is now working great - I use this to connect my main computer to the wireless network in the house for connectivity to my Wi-Fi printing network (yeah, too many printers). I have a main color laser printer connected up via ethernet to the home network for me to use, and 2 other printers (1 color inkjet and 1 b&w laser) for everyone else in the family to use. Now, I purchased this adapter because my old one was simply that - old. It worked, but was connecting at 72mbps. I purchased this one after reading about the various other models Netgear had available (and Best Buy had them all out and clearly showing on the shelf); I decided on this one over the others due to speed.
The setup software CD included with the adapter was a joke. It asked me if I wanted to skip the CD and download the latest from the web - which I decided would be better - and then failed to do anything. I then attempted to install the software again without the update; the setup CD installed the driver files...and failed to find the adapter when I plugged it in. I completely uninstalled and re-installed again and same issue. I went to the website and - Lo and Behold! - you have to download their latest device driver for Windows 10. OK, setup CD is now worthless to me anyway, so I threw it out. I downloaded the Windows 10 driver from the web and followed all the prompts...and it failed to find my adapter when I plugged it in.
Now, Netgear has a great reputation for having some great basic devices, so I was about 99% certain that the adapter was fine. But there is always that 1% that makes you wonder if you are just spinning your wheels. So how did I resolve this? I went into the Devices and Printers and noticed that I had some unknown device that was listed as something like Microsoft Router Device or something or other (it said something network-related, but nothing denoting Netgear or Wi-Fi adapter or anything remotely related to what it really was). I went into its device configuration, attempted to tell it to use a better driver...dug the stupid CD out of the trash, and when it scanned the CD for the driver, it found 2 - the initial one that was auto-installed as default that was NOT the Netgear driver, and the actual Netgear driver. I pointed it at the Netgear driver and my adapter was found and started working.
Something that should have normally taken me 3 minutes from start to finish (counting removing the adapter from the packaging), instead took me almost 20 minutes. And while that may not seem like a lot of time to some, I was more than I wanted to spend setting up a device that should have been plug-and-play for Windows 10 (which I think it technically was trying to do but the software got in the way).

I bought this to plug into my PC due to not having a hard line available and it is like I am connected directly to my router! I have 3 walls between this card and my router and it has no problems connecting and streaming what so ever. I play games quite often and I have no Issues lagging while connected to a game.

I purchased this devise to replace an existing USB WI-FI transmitter. It improved the overall speed and reliability of my ancient computer so that it's life can be extended for daily computer activity. It was simple to setup, has great range and provides excellent speed over my wireless network.

As my wireless adapter broke I decided to try and external wireless adapter. When I first opened the box I was not impressed by its simple design. Once I tried the USB, I was very happy. It's very simple but powerful.

I've had this adapter for about 3 months now. It was on sale and I had $5 in rewards so it was a real bargain. I already had a Netgear N600 router and decided to keep it in the family. I did read some reviews that complained of issues staying connected but I haven't had any. Setup was extremely easy. It was a matter of clicking an icon on the computer after loading the drivers and then pushing a button on the router to make the connection. The computer I connected this to is running Windows 7 and is 2 rooms away on the opposite end of the house.

Not knowing how something would work, I asked the Blue Shirt pro about a product to help link a second PC to my home network. While being helpful in explaining how the USB adapter would work, I didn't initially buy this one, but a lesser expensive (and powerful) one. I returned the poor-performance adapter and bought this one - much to my delight it worked great. Wish I would have purchased it first to save a trip back to Best Buy! Easy to install and works great on second PC.

For ease of installation and design, this little widget does the trick. My son had wanted to put a card inside his machine, but those are getting harder to find, so this was the next best thing - at a fraction of the price. Will it work through brick walls and steel doors? Maybe not, but at least we didn't have to string cable to the back bedroom so my son could look at Youtube.

My review of the new Netgear "Ultimate Performance" N900 wireless adapter.
Completely disappointing and and utter waste of money.
I was upgrading from a Netgear WG111v3 card and I was expecting a seamless upgrade. Wouldn't you? Same brand and only one gen upgrade, should be seamless, right? Not a chance.
The new card did not work on first installation, something I've come to expect from cheap consumer electronics. It did, however, break the applet for the old card, so I had to reinstall that before I could try troubleshooting why the new card wouldn't work.
Three attempts later, after multiple hangs and just stopping progress, I got the card to work. The first thing the card tells me is that new firmware is available and should be downloaded. I attempted that and the card is incapable of even downloading it's own driver upgrade from its own site, when it has an entire brand new N router all to itself with no other traffic.
The whole reason I got this device and the new Cisco N router was to ensure maximum signal strength across the entire 25 feet and single internal, non-structural wall between me and the new router. From twenty five feet away and through one wall, I can't get full signal strength. At the same time, I DO get full signal strength from an unknown router that's over a year old and three offices away from me.
The other thing I don't get is an applet that lets me monitor network and transmission status, as with the older card that had a status graph showing current connectivity. The new applet has nothing more than a little box with sent/received packet numbers. Try monitoring what's going on in your network with that. Also missing in the installation app was any kind of progress or action indicator. Click a button during installation and then just sit back and hope, because the app doesn't tell you that anything, or if anything, is progressing, not even the Windows rolling activity icon. This is some of the laziest applet programming I've ever seen, Netgear is going backward instead of forward.
As usual, the only reason I bought a piece of Netgear equipment was because it was the only solution readily available and, as usual, I am extremely disappointed. In the past, however, I have purchased only entry level Netgear equipment and I was really hoping for better from their top of the line, most-expensive-in-store, offering. I was disappointed, utterly.
I've been letting the device try to download its own driver upgrade for the fifteen minutes I've been writing this review, and it still can't do it. Again, this brand new card is twenty five feet from a brand new Cisco N router that has no other devices on it, and the machine it's plugged into is a modern PC running a recently installed Windows7 OS, so there should be absolutely no compatibility or legacy issues.
And now, checking the reviews as I write this one, I found several complaints that the card consistently starts failing in less than a year, so unless you like spending a hundred bucks a year on wifi cards, stay away from Netgear.
When going to the Netgear website to post this review, I found that this device is not even listed on the Netgear site, even when I searched with the exact title copied directly off the box, nor does Netgear allow reviews of its products on its own site. Gee, I wonder why?
Note in the attached photo that there are only three bars of signal strength when the router is only twenty five feet away. Also note the request on the top of the screen asking to upgrade the firmware, which the device is incapable of achieving, I've tried three times so far.
Netgear- If you are going to market top of the line equipment, get your act together and make sure your products perform as advertised.
Netgear- NEVER AGAIN.

Recently upgraded my high speed internet to 150Mbps, so I purchased this wireless adapter for a desktop that did not have wireless built into it. It was a simple plugin, load the disc for the driver, and off we went. I couldn't have asked for a more simple installation, or better working device. I am getting excellent speeds with this adapter and really happy that I purchased it.

My 7 y/o pc didn't have wireless capabilities but I needed to moved my computer away from the modem/router. So instead of buying another modem / router $ or running a 100 ft cable through the house, this netgear adapter was very quick and easy to install for a pretty good price

I bought this for my wife's notebook since the factory adapter does not support 5G. It works well, but is so big, it really hangs out the side of the PC. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who has to move the PC around a lot. It's a big obstacle hanging out the USB port.
Other than that, it works great. Really sped up the connection.

This is a very nice, low-cost solution to wireless needs. The system was plug-and-play on a Windows 10 machine and gave far superior signal strength to the PCI wireless card that I had been using. If you're in need of replacement or want as less intrusive solution for wireless, it's hard to go wrong with this USB transceiver.
