The Netgear CM1000 is definitely the first step into the right direction for having a better, more stable speed performance and, while it may not be as compact as the Arris SB8200 (it also lacks the second Ethernet port), it is a more elegant device. Sure, this is definitely a future-proof cable modem, but taking into account the price of the CM1000 and the small availability of 1Gbps data plans, it may not (yet) be an attractive option for the average user (tech enthusiasts will appreciate it more).

A very good modem, much nice alternative to the Comcast modems if you want something simple and to the point.
I was able to get 1GB speed with this (~945MB) and never had a problem with it.
Honestly I can't say much because it's a modem that does one thing, but it is a quality build, easy to setup and just does its one thing well. Maybe a bit pricey but it's quality.

I upgraded to the DOCSIS 3.1 variant of the Nighthawk so that I can future proof my internet setup; you can get up to 2 Gbps through link aggregation. I have Cox Gigablast (1 Gbps) and the CM1200 was on their list of approved modems. I had no issues setting up the modem; all I had to do was call Cox and give them the info for the modem. It works well. Be aware that if you disconnect the modem from a router or pc while the modem is still powered on, it will not recognize the new device that you connect it to. You need to disconnect the modem from the router or pc, power cycle (unplug or turn-off) the modem, plug the Ethernet cable into the new device, and then turn on the modem. This will get your device re-connected to the internet.

Excellent and Reliable Modem So Far!

I have been using this modem for more than a month so far and it has been incredibly reliable! As a note, I used this modem with Xfinity as my ISP and used it along with a Linksys router. This is a modem ONLY so you will need a router if you want Wi-Fi and the security that comes with a router. I don't recommend plugging devices into the modem unless it's a router since there are no firewalls or security measures that will block malicious traffic from coming in.
Configuration doesn't take too long. Once you plug the Coax cable in, the modem will take about 5-10 minutes to find a signal from your ISP. The lights on the side of the modem are a good indication that everything is working correctly. Once the modem finds the signal, plug in your router to the modem, make any necessary configurations, and Wi-Fi should now be broadcasted.
In terms of speeds, I am getting faster speeds than I am supposed to get when hardwired and sometimes on Wi-Fi if there is available bandwidth.
Overall, this is a wonderful replacement for your ISP's provided modem/router. Just make sure you have a separate router since this modem doesn't provide any routing or Wi-Fi, or proper security measures.

Had some problems with my Spectrum modem but this one fixed everything with ease. Very easy to install.
I would say plug and play but you do have to make a quick phone call to your internet provider to swap the service to this modem.
Very fast and reliable

Replaced Motorola with Netgear after a discussion with a fellow IT professional. Works great with Comcast, no issues with boot files, docsis 3.1 etc. The modem is a bit larger than previous modems, however front light density is perfect, not too bright, not too dark. A little on the pricey side..

I'd just finished buying a new TV and sound bar so I was cringing every time the bill dropped but it's going away quick. The moral of the story is that I had no intention of putting anything else on my BB card at the moment. And then my existing cable modem died.
I checked Spectrum's site, found this at the higher end of the price point and decided to pull the trigger. Speeds up to 250k just came into my area and I wanted to get as much as I could so this modem went home with me.
I use this with Google Wifi as my house is prone to dead zones (older) and presto! My 100MB download is now up to 454 on average. I'm not a hardcore tech guy; some of the stuff is way over my head. The only problem I had with setup is it *requires* a computer in the house with a RJ45 connection and I didn't have one I have all newer Macs. I had to spend 40 min on the phone with Netgear Tech Support to get initialized on their side and another 20 with Spectrum to get this modem put on my line. That was probably the only downside to all of this.
After that, smooth sailing. I hate that I spent way more than I wanted to, but it was ultimately worth it for me to not go cheap for once

I've only had it for a few weeks so these are my initial experiences with the Netgear cable modem. I purchased this along with the TPlink AC1750. My cable provider is Spectrum. Setup was easy and the performance has been consistent even with the power outages we have endured lately. I'm getting very close to my rated internet speeds (400mbps) when connected directly to the modem through ethernet. Long story short...so far I'm I am happy with the modem.

Does everything our business needed!

So, it's fast and reliable- those should be the most important things to consider, but in our case they aren't. We needed compliance with a cloud based network, the availability of ports to connect a computer, a VOIP phone, and a wireless router. It was nearly impossible to suit all those requirements, and the Nighthawk is the ONLY one on the long list from our cloud based contract that works. I bought 3 others before this one- should not have wasted my time. So worth the money. Oh- and set-up was a breeze.

After upgrading my Internet service to 1gb speed. Optimum supply me with a generic modem that was a nightmare! Lots network hang ups, speeds not as advertised etc. After lots of research and few alternatives I decided risk it and pull the trigger on this amazing modem. Not only was it compatible with optimum, it was very easy to set up! Bye bye network hang ups!

Easy to setup and cannot complain on the DOCSIS 3.1 modem
technology. This ultra-fast modem delivers existing DOCSIS 3.0 data through 32 downstream channels and eight upstream channels. The Nighthawk is a future-proof replacement for the rental modem supplied by your cable ISP. I was using the Panoramic Wifi Router Modem from Cox and did not satisfy my need. Purchasing this modem ensured my home network to be fast and reliable.

Thus far the modem has met every expectation. I have "Gigabit" internet (which of course is never as fast as advertised) and with the modem I have achieved 850+ Mbs. Easy set up also.
Note: Does not include ANY Wi-FI and is JUST a modem. That's all it's advertised as, but wanted to make that clear.

Works great when your provider cooperates

This modem is works great, provided your internet provider cooperates with you bringing your own equipment. If you have Comcast/Xfinity, you'll want to be careful as they are currently having issues with customers who bring their own Netgear equipment. When their service works, this modem works great with an external router for wifi and delivers fast upload/download speeds. However, when Comcast/Xfinity pushes an update they run into issues with Netgear equipment leading to numerous calls with their overseas customer service who will likely redirect you to Netgear's customer service who will either direct you back to Comcast/Xfinity or try a sell you a service plan. Don't do either! Find the reset on your device and press it to restore your factory settings. That should correct the problem until the next network update push, then try this again.

I wanted a Modem-Router Combo with the latest DOCSIS 3.1 and Wi-Fi 6 technology. The NIGHTHAWK CAX80 met the technical requirements. Installing the CAX80 wasn't as easy as advertised. I could not 'self activate' thru the Web. The Nighthawk Smartphone App can be used to setup WiFi, but does not setup Modem. My cable company is Spectrum. I've had my internet account with them (including their predecessor Time-Warner and RoadRunner) for more than 20 years. Their customer service is excellent--once you get a live person. They performed diagnostics and said the modem was working. However, I could not connect to the internet. They gave me a direct number to Netgear, and I called for assistance. Within minutes my modem-router was working perfectly. They are remarkably competent.
The Wi-Fi signal is stronger and more constant without fluctuation than my older modem-router. No pauses or buffering when watching streaming video movies. The Netgear advertising is accurate and reliable. So is the performance. I am well pleased and highly recommend this router.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this modem. We have used Netgear for years and didn’t know what we were missing by not upgrading sooner! With technology changing constantly and the need for multiple devices using WiFi this router has been amazing. We don’t have gig speed internet and I do speed tests almost daily. I have noticed that this Modem dishes out over 900mbps! The setup was easy and the nighthawk app makes things like speed tests, guest WiFi and network monitoring super easy!!!

This isn't the most expensive modem for sale, but it offers the 3.1 service that our ISP requires to get the speed we want.
And unfortunately, this is our 2nd modem. After 6 months of use, the first one died. But it died in a peculiar way. Still powers up, but our ISP (that big cable company) couldn't 'see' the modem. Had their tech out to check signal strength/noise/quality. Everything was fine. Even hooked up our 'old' motorola 3.0 modem and it worked fine, too.
Netgear offers 90 days of free tech support. After 90 days, you pay And that includes warranty / equipment failures. When you're budgeting, don't forget tech support.
They did waive that fee for me, but then tried to tell me it was an ISP problem because if the unit powered up, it worked. After I laughed at him, he spoke to a supervisor and RMA'd the non-working unit. Total time on the phone, 3.5 hours.
We've had various net-gear products over the years. We have a netgear router, range extender, and this modem. We run all our networking devices on dedicated battery backups and for the most part, all of our netgear products have ran incident free until it was time to upgrade.
But that wasn't the case with this modem.

The first thing I did after set-up was run a speed test, it came back very fast and I should be able run various devices at once with no problem which has turned out to be true. This is replacing an earlier Netgear modem that Comcast said wouldn't keep up anymore, Never had a problem with it so I assume the same with this.
