Customers are saying

Customers find value in the Nighthawk 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Voice Cable Modem's ease of use, strong performance, and straightforward setup. Many appreciate its voice support and competitive price, particularly as an alternative to cable company rentals. However, some users experienced compatibility issues with certain internet providers and reported problems with the Ethernet ports. The lack of built-in Wi-Fi was also a recurring point of feedback.

    Better cable modem all around!

Note: This voice cable modem is designed to work with only certain cable systems - make sure it's the right choice for you! It is certified to work with Comcast (among others) - if you don't have telephony as part of your package there are other options (including some very capable ones by Netgear). This is a nice solid and fast modem, with a good spread of indicator lights to let you know where it is in the connection process. At the purchase price I paid, it will have paid for itself (by no longer having to pay Comcast to rent their modem) in 18 months, and it should remain useful quite beyond that, so money well spent. Also, the logging and reporting on this modem are far superior to what you get on the Comcast-issued device, and were instrumental in getting Comcast to troubleshoot wiring and connection problems that were outside my house - once resolved we have a very fast and stable connection, which I never achieved on their rented modem. Appearance is nice, suitable to have out in the office although mine lives out of sight in a closet. Netgear recommends you leave it in the pictured vertical position for heat dissipation (that base is NOT removable), so make sure you have room for it. Very important: this is a true cable modem, NOT a wireless gateway such as your typical Comcast device. Know what you are buying! Despite having 4 ethernet jacks, you CANNOT use all of them - only one jack is active, and it's possible an additional jack MAY become usable in a later firmware update for bonded connections to a high-speed router (nobody knows why it has 4 jacks, it's an enduring mystery). That means you MUST have your own router to connect multiple devices wired/wireless - you can't just use a switch, as there is no routing/DHCP capability. Make sure you are using a recent high-quality router - you are depending on it for your security (this box is issuing you a naked "on the internet" address with no protection), and your connection speed may be limited by the throughput of your router, so don't skimp.

We finally decided to cut the cord with our ATT landline phone service and add Xfinity phone/voice service to our Xfinity Internet package so I needed to upgrade my modem to one with Xfinity Voice capability. I got tired of renting faulty Xfinity equipment so I had a NetGear CM-1000 gig speed modem to go along with my gig speed internet service and it was nice. After reading the reviews I upgraded to the NetGear CM-1150V. It was easy to set up and provides crystal clear voice service. Some of the reviewers said the CM-1150V was not compatible their Xfinity gig speed internet service but that was not the case in my situation. To my surprise my internet speed increased ! It went from 600- 700 Mbps to 800-900 Mbps. I am very happy with my purchase !

I've since day one have had Xfinity/ comcast modems. When I went to gig speeds the wifi dropped out several times a day. Until last month it got to the point where their xb6 was unusable. The neighbors were complaining about the same thing and everyone I ran into that had their router modem xb6 combo had the same issues. My wired devices were doing 500-600mbps down. I've had the XB6 swapped out 3 times in the past year by Xfinity. They checked my wiring. They couldn't figure out the problem. I just went to best buy and bought the Nighthawk modem with voice and the Nighthawk AX8 router. Guess what? No drops. Faster speeds. Xbox one X download speed was 1015mbps. No jitters or getting stuck streaming. I gave Xfinity their junk back

Started using this instead of paying a rental fee. Happy with the performance and it has last well past what we would have paid in rental fees from Xfinity.

Yes, this device has four ports. Do the people complaining about all four not working realize that this is how Comcast is provisioning the modem? You're only getting a Gigabit max anyway, and your home network is probably hiding behind a cheap $35.00 router. Good luck with that. Understand that Comcast has complete control over how the modem behaves, not the end user. Are you not achieving the Gigabit you're paying for? No problems here. If not, don't complain to Netgear, Comcast's infrastructure is old and crumbling under our feet. If you're not on top of them they WILL take advantage of you. The first tech that came to my house was worthless. Comcast got an earful on that. Second tech climbed a pole in my backyard, did a new drop to the house, and rewired everything Comcast was responsible for outside of my house. You have to eliminate the variables. It was only then we could prove it was the top of the line Arris I purchased. Self provisioned in five minutes, with just a quick phone call to Comcast for a heads up. For all of you Arris fans, poor, poor quality. Please do your research before complaining. Do you really know a residential user with more than one active WAN port? My Arris SB8200 two port piece of junk gave up the ghost just after the warranty was up. Yes, two ports. One port disabled by guess who? By the way, both telephone ports on the Netgear are provisioned, Comcast's choice again. I really do miss the real Motorola and the original Surfboards. As the subject says, make sure you're getting what Comcast is bleeding you for. Don't settle. And don't blame your gear first, Comcast's stuff is aging and they will not maintain proactively. They will wait it out until YOU complain. Let's be real. How many of you are dishing out $300.00 for 2Gigabit?

I wanted to keep my land line phone number and also stay compatible with Comcast cable. This modem was perfect for me. It was easy to set up from the self-install instructions on the Comcast website. I'm getting 350 mbs reliably, and with Docsis 3.1 expect to get the gigabit speeds when it's time to upgrade. I didn't need a built in Wifi router because I have the Netgear Orbi mesh router, which makes a terrific combination with the Nighthawk. I just run my iMac off of wifi now, no need for ethernet connection. It is fast.

I decided to cancel Vonage and add voice to my Xfinity internet, so I needed a voice modem. This one was well rated and suited my needs. The modem works as advertised, gives me the speed I pay for and is so far reliable. Setup was not as advertised. Forget the reviews and instructions, just call Xfinity immediately and hope you get someone who can do more than read a support screen script. I got lucky and he had my modem up and running in about 20 minutes. The instructions say it can all be done with a computer browser connected via ethernet, this is not true. That install failed every time.

Recently upgraded our services from Comcast. Went from just internet to a triple play that included voice service. While there was nothing wrong with our previous Surfboard modem, it lacked the voice ports. This modem has exceeded my expectations. Walked out of the store and right into the xfinity store and gave them all the numbers on the box. By the time I got home it was activated and worked as soon as I plugged it in. Very happy with this modem, and after a year or so of not paying rental fees, it will have paid for itself. It was a little pricey, but I think it’s worth the expense if you plan on keeping it long enough for it to offset rental fees. It’s also Docsis 3.1 so it’s ready for the future.

This Netgear Nighthawk cable modem was relatively easy to setup and appears to be working fine. It is expensive and is supposed to be so fast. So far I have not seen any speed improvement compared to my old Arris T25 cable modem. It is disappointing that this was the only cable modem that also supports Voice for Xfinity Comcast, and it does NOT include a built-in wireless router. My old Arris T25 (DOCSIS 3.0) supported Voice and had a built-in wireless router. At this point I am going to assume that the reason for not seeing a performance boost is because I am still using my old Belkin router. I'm in the process of finding a new router.

Got this unit so I could save a few bucks off the internet bill and because I have specific things I wanted to do with my home network that an ISP provided combo unit won't let you do. It's expensive, but in the end you'll make that up in the savings off your bill. Setup was simple, plug everything in and connect via Ethernet to activate via the ISP activation site and it was off to the races. This DOES NOT have a router built in so unless you plan on only connecting your devices via ethernet, you will need a router as well. Overall I'm happy with this unit, I get the full speed I pay for over Ethernet and I had no trouble hooking up a router to it.

We needed to replace an aging cable modem and wanted something with support for DOCSIS 3.1 and ultimately chose this model. The modem has worked flawlessly for us — it allows us to get the most from the internet plan we’re paying for, it should be future proof should our internet provider offer higher speeds (Comcast recently bumped us up to 600Mbps), and it has been extremely reliable so far. We’re really happy with this modem and would recommend it without reservation to anybody looking for a feature-rich and reliable cable modem.

Got this because the one we got from Xfinity died and I was sick of paying the fee and them using my internet for a public hotspot despite it being in bridge mode.So after much research I decided on this Bad Larry and my internet speed had nearly tripled I also got the Nighthawk 2600 wifi router to go along with this .. its very easy to set up and super worth it and NetGears technical support is 2nd to none (haven't had to use it ) Bottom line NetGear is the best when it comes to networking

Very easy setup with the xfinity app. Works great. Don't let the pictures deceive you. Cable modem comes with plugs that cover Ethernet ports 2, 3 and 4. Only one ethernet port will work at a time. The other three ethernet ports are for future expansion. You cannot manually update your firmware. Firmware updates are provided through your ISP. This was a good choice to replace my rented xfinity modem.

This modem shall pay off the 13 dollar Comcast charged me monthly in 15 months. It is currently the only gigabit and voice modem. Activation was extremely easy. Turn it on, wait for solid green light, plug in a cable, activate, reboot, connected! To connect a router, connect router to LAN1 port, reboot, connected! Speed is as advertise. I coonnected my laptop to router via giga port and achieved 980 using xfinity speed test and neflix fast.com. I highly recommended this modem to replace xfinity xfi unless you pre miden+router combo.

Wanted to replace the $10/month voice/cable modem fee from Comcast. This does the trick very nicely, and I'm really happy with the upgraded bandwidth (up and down). Unfortunately, I was also interested to use the extra Ethernet ports, but have been unable to find any guidance other than pairing two of them for link aggregation. Would have loved to use them to (for instance) make a DMZ upstream of my home access point/router.
