Pretty Good So Far

Inconsistent internet connection

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is the third different NETGEAR modem I’ve bought in the past six months, each increasingly expensive, and each failing after a short time. One I returned three times before I gave up and went to the next level. This is, I think, the top level, and I was hoping it would be the last one if need. Nope. I’ve had it a month now, and I suddenly stopped working. I use it with NETGEAR’s most expensive router, the ORBI, and thought that because they are from the same company, they would work perfectly together. Was I ever wrong. I think I’ve spent four full days in the past four months trying to get basic internet serivicd through my house, most of that time either on the phone with NETGEAR’s tech support (more in that in a minute) and the rest of the time waiting for the modem and/or the router to reboot. Not only don’t they work together, but NETGEAR’s tech support is horrible. It’s always someone in either India or Mexico, and neither of us can understand each other very well. I have the extended warranty with them, but there is no East way to get hold of their tech support. When I finally do, it usually takes 10 minutes to verify who I am, then another 10 minutes trying to describe the problem in a way they can understand, and then endless re-boots before they put me on hold and supposedly transfer me to someone who knows more, which turns out not to be the case. And the pattern starts all over again. I’ve used NETGEAR products for years, and if I had a choice, I would never use them again.

slow speed, terrible tech support

I purchased this modem because it's listed on the Xfinity website for gigabyte speed. I connected my pc to the modem with a cable and could only get 60mbps. I called Xfinity and they said to wait a day and check again. still getting 60mbps. Xfinity sent a tech and he changed a splitter and ran some test and said everything looked good. Ran a speed test and it was at 280mbps but then a couple of hours later the speed was back down to around 60mbps. Xfinity said to call netgear because it was not their modem. I called netgear (worst tech support ever) and they had me reboot, unplug, reboot, unplug and put me on hold after every question for over an hour. Then they said the modem might be defective and to get another one, which I did. Same thing, when I first connect it the speed is at around 300mbps and then later in the day its back at 60mbps. So I called netgear tech support again. The same thing power off, reboot, unplug for over an hour. Then tech support says the modem is not compatible with Xfinity even though it says it on the box and on the Xfinity website. Why wouldn't they have said this from the beginning instead of wasting hours on the phone and making me get a replacement. Then she says to get model c7100v which is not rated for gigabyte speed. Now I am stuck with a modem that can't do what it advertises. This will be the last netgear product I buy.

No more buffering

Do not buy this modem

Best Buy only provides a limited time warranty. NetGear requires a paid support subscription to discuss issues with their products for 3 months after purchase. Xfinity will change settings that requires NetGear to change modem settings. The subscription is well over $100/year. Do not believe the statement on the box “Supports Xfinity internet service”. NetGear does not stand behind their products and will not offer a refund when they do not work. Call in support wait times are 1 - 1 1/2 hours and usually transfer to a second or third agent.
