Customers are saying

Customers find value in the Nighthawk 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Voice Cable Modem's ease of use, strong performance, and straightforward setup. Many appreciate its voice support and competitive price, particularly as an alternative to cable company rentals. However, some users experienced compatibility issues with certain internet providers and reported problems with the Ethernet ports. The lack of built-in Wi-Fi was also a recurring point of feedback.

    Fast Reliable Modem

I bought this modem to replace the one I was leasing from Comcast. Even though that modem was fast and 99% reliable, there was the 1% that caused dropped phone calls and online business meetings. Comcast troubleshooting did not find a problem testing it remotely as it always mostly works and the offs of finding the problem are slim to none. So it was time to replace it. This modem is designed to work with Comcast Internet and VoIP, but has no Wi-Fi. It has 4 RJ-45 Ethernet ports, and 2 RJ-11 phone jacks. There are some rules as to which port or how many you can actually connect, but I have not studied because I have not needed to. I am using one RJ-45 and one RJ-11 ports to run my household of four full-time working-from-home family with not a single issue of dropped land line phone calls or online business meetings. This modem solved my problem.

Excellent modem for data and voice and you don't have to pay a monthly fee to Comcast. This a very fast modem and the voice is Chrystal Clear! It has two voice lines if you need them. Very reliable as I have not lost the signal yet. I highly recommend this modem!

Excellent value and FAST. I've never had a problem with a Netgear modem - and they are my GoTo device with helping friends and neighbors! Don't rent from the cable company - buy your own and feel the difference!

This modem was very easy to setup and once connected worked seamlessly. It's a bit pricey but compared to the monthly charges for a cable company modem, it will pay for itself in a year and with better reliability.

This is a super fast modem for my Xfinity 1gb service! It has never dropped off and reboots every time I restart the modem. Works great with my router and this one has Xfinity voice. A little on the pricey side but so far worth it.

This modem works very well in combination with Xfinity internet and voice. Easy to set up and firmware is pushed automatically from Xfinity. The voice quality is outstanding, even better than wired land line. A couple of things to keep in mind. It has four ethernet ports but only one is active for either direct connection to a single computer or to your router of choice. The speed doubling features, in conjunction with compatible routers is not active either. Secondly, in the event of power failure, you have no phone service. It has a 12v DC power supply (wall wart) so I bought a $30 battery backup online with 5 hours of standby power that switches automatically. Problem solved.

    Would not work with Xfinity

Returned it to store. Would not stay connected to Xfinity, had to send a reset signal 2-3 times a day. The unit would never fully activate with Xfinity so had to be reset repeatedly. To be honest - Xfinity blames Netgear and vice versa. Now in between resets - the modem maximized our internet speed. Also misleading, the 4 ethernet ports on the rear are not usable by the consumer, only 1 is available without additional equipment/setup. Oh and do not rely on getting through to Netgear customer support in any kind of reasonable time frame. They expect you to use the internet to contact them - which is nearly impossible when the device you purchased from them to use the internet doesn't work.

Upgraded from an older, DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Easy install and activation. Much better performance. Reliably getting 900+Mbps down. Modem has been up without any issue so far for a more than a month.

Very pleased with this modem. It was very easy to install and was up and running within thirty minutes - both internet and landline. So pleased I no longer have to pay Comcast a monthly fee for a gateway.

I switched from using the Optimum provided cable modem, which I had to pay a monthly fee, to this better, and ultimately cheaper modem. I have not had an issue since I started using the Netgear Nighthawk 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Voice Cable Modem, Voice support - Black. I created a mesh system using two Asus routers and have not had any drop off in signal strength for any of my numerous wifi enabled devices. You are unable to use the voice services that Optimum provides with this router, but I switched to Ooma and that is also a pleasure to use.

The initial setup was the easiest part. You need to be a little tech savvy to troubleshoot issues. I was getting ping ponged between Xfinity techs and the Netgear techs. Having an IT background I was able to sort out the issues. If you decide to purchase your own modem as I did when I upgraded my service to 1Gb; make sure you get a router that has a NAT throughput of gigabit or higher. Most wireless routers will advertise as a gigabit router, but it is the processing power (NAT throughput) which what counts. Your router not this modem which will be the bottleneck.

The hardest part is making sure that the service is switched properly. I needed to first figure out how to contact Xfinity. Then it took 30 minutes with them to get the data service switched over. They did not successfully set up my voice initially. I set it up the next day. That took another 30 minutes. Overall I can say that it achieves my one gigabyte download speed which my service advertised.
