Customers find value in the Nighthawk 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Voice Cable Modem's ease of use, strong performance, and straightforward setup. Many appreciate its voice support and competitive price, particularly as an alternative to cable company rentals. However, some users experienced compatibility issues with certain internet providers and reported problems with the Ethernet ports. The lack of built-in Wi-Fi was also a recurring point of feedback.

So far so good vs my old NG c7100v

I've had my old NG c7100v die after 11 months and its replacement also after a month. I was afraid to stick with netgear but there are not too many options that support comcast voice. I went with this and purchased an extended warranty. The modem is fast. I had an issue trying to activate it one day but it went easy on my second attempt. My plan is rated for 300mbps but I have hit as high as 350mbps a few times in testing. I paired this with a tplink ax1500 wifi 6 router. Seems like a good combo so far.

Great data and voice modem

One of the first DOCSIS 3.1 Data and Voice modems available to Comcast customers in the retail space. Works great, runs pretty cool, voice sounds just like any other eMTA voice modem. Will be able to do link aggregation on two of the 4 ports with the next firmware revision so you can get up to 2 Gbps speeds. Only downfall is the lack of a battery backup, but a standard UPS will solve that problem easily.

Horrible product and support!

I wasted hours of my life before giving up on this modem. I’ve always owned my own modem (Arris/Motorla), but recently upgraded to an Xfinity “super triple play” and needed a gigabit and telephone modem. Rather than having 3 separate devices (2 modems and 1 router) I waited for a docsis 3.1 modem to be released with telephone support. The first company that did it was Netgear. This device is supported by Xfinity and recommended on the Comcast website.
Out of the box I had issues. The initial web activation did not work and I had to call Comcast. The Internet and phone worked for 30 minutes before the connection dropped. After 2.5 hours on the phone, Comcast stated it was configured properly and should work. It died again the next day and I went through the same spiel with Comcast. We did a full reset, reactivated it with Comcast and it seemed to work of for about 24 hours. Today it dropped the signal 4x before I called Comcast again. At this time, Comcast stated that I needed to speak with Netgear.
Netgear was useless. I called and in order to speak with someone you need to navigate a phone menu that cannot understand the letters Netgear chose to start the serial number with. What a pain! The Netgear rep attempted to troubleshoot the device, but sadly she could not grasp what I was saying when I would explain it had a solid power, down stream, up stream, and internet light with no connection. It was almost as if she had never heard of a cable modem or what the indicators meant. She must have found the manual because she had me reset it again and attempt another power cycle. It worked for 5 minutes and then the signal dropped. I understand the firmware comes from Comcast, but Netgear was completely useless during the troubleshooting process. The Netgear rep mentioned if I lost the connection again that it may be a defective unit and that I should return it. I hung up and got the Xfi advanced gateway out of the bag I was going to take it to the Xfinity service center in. I am so glad I had not already returned it to Comcast. I was back up and running again in less than 15 minutes with the Xfi app.
I work from home and need a reliable connection. I never had an issue with my old plan and the docsis 3.0 Arris/Motorola modem. The Xfi gateway also worked flawlessly for the 5 weeks I had it. No wiring issues or user error on this end!
SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AND AVOID THIS PRODUCT!!!
I really wanted to own my own device again to avoid the $13 per month charge, but at $249.99 this device is not cheap and will take at least 20 months to even break even. If you don’t have a gigabit capable router, you will need an additional device that will cost upwards of $100. Who knows if I will even have Comcast for 26+ months or when the next standard comes out that will render this hardware useless. Back when a modem was $75 and I saved $120 in a year it was a no brainer. My time and uninterrupted internet and phone service is worth more than the modem rental fee.
I probably did get a defective unit, but who wants to spend $250+ on something brand new to receive a dead unit and then have to attempt exchanging and going through the same intermittent issue again? Not me! The support from Netgear was abysmal so its going back tomorrow and I am not looking back. I may reconsider owning another modem if Arris/Motorola releases one direct to consumers and the price goes down, but right now I am happy I can write this review from my working internet connection.

Great self-owned eMTA

Stop renting your modem from Comcast and buy this instead. It was shocking easy to install (no phone call activation, just a simple webpage), and works flawlessly as both a modem and eMTA. Seems more stable than the junk all-in-one boxes you get from Comcast.

Unit visually appears the same as Netgear's DOCSIS3.1 designs that are out now (Namely the CM1000). It is a nice design overall, though perhaps slightly tall, but gets great ventilation.
Activation was painless using Comcast/Xfinity's self provisioning portal, and was up and running in less than 15 minutes. Phone line activation as well is a breeze if you subscribe to Xfinity phone service. This is an important fact as there are only a small small amount of modems on the market that support not only DOCSIS3.1 but also ISP phone service, typically you are locked into a rental device.
Outside of that, operation has been super smooth, no issues, no outages. Channels are locked solid, and service is steady.
For those interested, this is a Broadcom based unit.

This thing is great. I got the full speed of my plan and was able to use the phone functionality too. The xfinity version that I upgraded to for gigabit does not let the phone work. Overall pleased

What You Need for Comcast Triple Play

We used a Netgear non-voice cable modem for six years along with an Ooma VOIP. Then we were "upgraded" to Comcast's triple play package. So, when Best Buy put this cable modem+voice on sale, I picked one up. The internet was easy and quick to setup. It took a couple of "chats" with Comcast and about half a day to get the phone activated. It all seems to be working fine for us right now. We'll keep the Ooma for a couple of months then cancel it if everything keeps working OK. I also activated Comcast's spam blocker on the phone line while I was at it.

Good solution for our Xfinity internet and home phone service. The worst part was getting online with Xfinity’s awful tech support.

Best Docsis 3.1 modem i have had

This has been the best modem I have ever had and I have a lot of modems.. Start up time is the quickest I have found just about 1 minute from power on to surfing. I have been watching a video and rebooted my modem during the video and there was enough video buffered that it never paused from the reboot.

Great eMTA!

What a great eMTA. I think the only other D3.1 eMTA is Arris, but the carriers have them (can't buy it publicly)
Works great, get two OFDM channels acquired on D.31. Phone call quality is great.
No complaints.

BEWARE - This is a single port modem!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Even though the Nighthawk CM1105V has 4 Ethernet Ports, you can only connect one device to it. If you have multiple routers (e.g. Xfinity Security and WiFi routers) you can only plug one of them into this modem. If you plug in multiple devices (e.g., 2 routers and/or 2 computers) into the Ethernet ports, none of them will work. This is likely the problem that DBB18 encountered. It took 2 calls to Netgear support to find this out - this limitation is NOT described on the BBY website or in the Netgear documentation. Finally, remember that you have ONLY 15 DAYS to return merchandise to BBY. As a result, I am now the very unhappy owner of a high-end, but totally useless Netgear Voice Cable Modem. Cheers!

Eventually fails

Great when it worked. Then it began requiring occasional hard resets after around year of use. Time between failures shortened and now it fails immediately upon boot up. Pricing it all out, in the length of time this modem worked, I spent about the same amount as just renting a modem from Comcast. Get a different brand.

Netgear Nighthawk CM1150V Failed within Less than

Sadly, this modem barely lasted 2 years. I have a Netgear router that has lasted me four plus years. This modem went caput at the two year mark. I am disappointed with Netgear quality control.
