This is a FANTASTIC ROUTER! The range on both bands is incredible. The speeds (especially on AC) are incredibly fast. Having two USB ports (One being 3.0) is extremely useful. I have read several reviews with complaints being poor coverage and or router self reboots. I have not experienced this at all. However, those problems can possibly be related to the firmware. Even after after I upgraded to Netgear's most recent firmware version for the nighthawk I did not experience any problems. The hardware that makes up the nighthawk is first class, however I do feel Netgear does not have too much confidence in their own firmware. If you are wondering what leads me to this assumption is simple. On Netgear's nighthawk homepage, http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R7000.aspx they specifically say open source support is available for this router. I don't believe I have seen any other manufacturer openly state this. Fortunately DD-WRT does have an official firmware version available for the nighthawk with MANY more options than the OEM version. Now I do agree that Netgear's OEM firmware should be just as good or better. But trust me, do NOT let this persuade you into not purchasing this router. Switching over to DD-WRT firmware is very simple and FREE. I have been running firmware Kong 23884M from DD-WRT for a couple of weeks now FLAWLESSLY. This router does carry a hefty price tag, but you won't be disappointed. I'm sure you have experienced at some time or another, in technology high quality does come at a price. Another thing to think about, I upgraded from an ASUS RT-56U router. This was a very good router however the 5.0 band coverage was limited and the router ran VERY HOT. I had to modify the back cover and attach an exhaust fan to dissipate the heat. The nighthawk runs incredibly cooler than Asus routers. Heat is an electronic components worse enemy.

I bought this item last year. It works fine. It has some small problems and it was not in the level of my expectation. Because my home is small and i spent this much of money to solve all of my problem i had had in the past. Any way i was happy with this router until yesterday that i didn’t get internet from my router and like everyone else i called the company to solve the problem. After calling them they explained me new level of customer service that it was first time i’ve heard something like this. The person on the phone told me that they are ready to help me on the phone if i pay 90 dollars to extend my warranty 6 more month. First i felt there is a misunderstanding but after asking again he explained me that yeah for solving your problem on the phone ( no hardware issue ) you need to extend your warranty. This was the first time i saw one company charge you for helping you on the phone and i believe it will be the last time. If you wanna buy product from netgear be aware that based on their policy, after one year you are not eligible to call the company for some software issue unless you pay 90 dollars to extend your warranty.

This Product Exceeds My Expectations ! , I really want to share my experience and write review for this Product. I live in Single Story House, Lot size 7500 Sq.ft and Actual House Construction Area would be close to 2500 Sq.ft. I am a techie guys, I try different Routers/Modems, I do not want to name them. I kept this exactly in the middle of the house in the closed laundry room ( my wife do not want to see wires and instruments in the middle of the house or at any visible location, she is very strict :) ), so I keep things in the closed laundry room. I can write review with full statistics and numbers, but i want everyone to understand and know facts about this super device in very simple and easy language and help people to choose this guy. Ok. I am Done with Story telling :). Let me share the my experience... From that closed room - @5Ghz Band I get more than Subscribed Internet Speed - I Subscribed for 150Mbps speed and I get 165Mbps :) at the living area ( which is closest to my laundry room - about 12 feet), Front bedrooms and most of the other places i get speed from 100-150Mbps ), Lowest Speed I get is 100Mbps. I am very much surprised to see this. @2.4Ghz Band, I get Max 120Mbps which is Awesome. And At the same Band I get Internet almost at every corner of my house and in both front and backyard of the house. I really loved this Product. If you buy this product ....I am very sure you will not be disappointed like me. Hope This Helps you to select right product. Note: I use CM500 Modem.

Before I had purchased this NetGear router, I had previously owned a NetGear router, of which I was sort of surprised to find that the settings interface had not changed much from my several year old router. That is not altogether a bad thing, after using the router I found that it was more of the fact that NetGear routers already had pretty well laid out settings screens, but I think this product could benefit if the settings screen was redesigned to look more appealing, and to make it have a look that is different from their older routers. This router does have a dual core 1 ghz processor, compared to the more expensive competition, it is a slightly faster processor, so that is a plus. The 1 year warranty on NetGear routers, could be extended to 2 years and this would be more appealing to customers, some other brands of routers have 2 year warranties. The one thing that I had used most of all on my previous router, was the ability to add a customized name to devices that are attached. Surprisingly NetGear removed that capability from this router, not sure why, maybe that feature will be added again with future firmware upgrades. This router does have a good WiFi range, but it does not allow you to customize the broadcasting strength of the WiFi signals, that is a functionality that other competing routers have, some people might not need it in a router. Overall, this router performs well. I returned it back to the store and bought the new Asus router, afterwards I found that this NetGear router did appear to have a slightly stronger WiFi signal compared to the the new Asus router, but overall I prefer the overall package of the Asus router in comparison.

Bought the high end router for gaming and media to replace the WNDR3700v1 that had issues because of firmware upgrades. Out of the box the router seemed to deliver. After a couple of days noticed, WIFI connections would drop and have to be reinitialized. Kept going for a bit. Checked the manufacturer's website, several firmware upgrades were available to try and address the issue. Seemed to be heading in downward spiral, in the attempt to fix one issue, more surfaced. Now facing issues with connectivity, and customer support runs you through the typical run of reboots, re-flashes, factory resets, etc. No fix after three weeks of attempts. I am tired of running tracert, ping, and jumping thorough hoops. Nor do I care for being treated as if though I'm incompetent. Tier 1 support needs to understand when to escalate rather than stonewalling its customers. Now just to be sure I'm not crazy, stuck a spare cisco router I have in it's place and badabing! No issues and heck even no packet loss issues that I was having with the R7000. I want what I paid for a high-end router that works. Why is that too much to ask for? I would suspect many customers that rave about this product are not paying close enough attention to the issues lurking and readily blame the ISP they are using. If possible I want to either swap out with a new, or preferably get a comparable replacement from a different manufacturer. We will see how Elite members are treated.....

Ok, this review almost started off very badly because when I first got this router home and hooked up, I had a series of problems ranging from not working at all to working only on certain devices in my home to working fine one day and not at all the next. After working with Mediacom techs both in the house and over the phone for almost 2 weeks and still not being able to get this thing to work, a tech finally suggested maybe this unit is defective and I should try another one. So, off to Best Buy and I exchanged it for the exact same router. Upon getting this one home and unpacking it, I immediately knew that the one I took back must’ve been a returned item when I purchased it because this new one had much more packaging and was sealed up better. So, that gave me high hopes for success with this one and I was not disappointed. I had this up and running in 10 minutes with ZERO problems. Every device in the house immediately hooked up to it and the internet speed is truly amazing! I pay for 100 mbps speed but I’m getting consistent speeds of 130-140 throughout 3 levels of my house on cellphones and tablets. This router truly kicks a**!! After 3 weeks now, I have not had a single issue with it. Highly recommended!

Most reviews with “one star” I usually attribute to user error, however, I am far from the common user as I worked in information technology field for over 17yrs. At the last minute I decided to forgo the AirPort Time Capsule and give the AC1900 Nighthawk Smart WiFi Router (Model: R7000) a chance. After about 4 months the router started consistently give me an error that the page couldn’t be displayed on various devices (iPhone/Samsung S5/iPad) various operating systems (OS X/Windows). Not to mention the connection issues with my gaming devices. I connect to my Hotspot and get no issues. I called Netgear and after 2 days with1.5 hr each day with their support requesting that I perform all of the troubleshooting steps that I already did before I called them, they finally decided to send me another device. It only took the send device about two days before I started receiving the same error. And to think, there was a time I considered purchasing the AC3200-Nighthawk X6 Tri-Band WiFi Router and eventually the ReadyNas but if this type of service/performance is an indication of what I am to expect, I’ll pass…..And when asked for advice of on a router, I can not recommend this device with a clean conscious. My family is completely dissatisfied with the service of this product….Also, I’m glad I copy/pasted this email, because I got the aforementioned error when trying to post…SMH

This router is one of the best AC router in the market. The LAN speed and WIFI speeds are unbelievable with dd-wrt build. The initial setup is very easy and internet is up and running within 2 mins with netgear stock firmware. I have loaded dd-wrt kong latest build instead of stock firmware to get best of this router for speed / range. My home is around 2800+ square feet with two stories and I had connection issues in 2nd floor with all latest routers in the market. I have cox ultimate internet connection with 150 mbps download / 25 mbps upload speeds. After installing this router with dd-wrt build and few settings change, speed test results are 190+ mbps download and 25+ mbps upload with wired connection. With 2.4Ghz, the speed results are 40+ mbps download and 20+ mbps upload even in the 2nd floor. With 5Ghz, the speed results are 140+ mbps download and 25+mbps upload speeds. I have more than 17 devices connected to this router with wired (using cisco switch) / wireless and all devices are running with full speed for streaming, gaming, VOIP phone etc. I have tried multiple routers ASUS RT-87, Nighthawk X6 Tri-band routers and many hours with support / analysis to get maximum speed are all returned to stores due to firmware bugs. If you have lot time and energy, you can explore these new routers. I would recommend this router to anyone who want high speed WIFI in your home.

First this thing has a presence. It is large by any standard. The Nighthawk's appearance is subdued and not flashy. The indicator lighting is a tad bright, so having the router in your general field of view will be distracting. Another plus is that you can wall mount this unit. The Nighthawks performance is divine. It handles heavy traffic loads flawlessly. We use a mix of devices. There is a Wii U, dual XBOX ONES, three PCs/Laptops, four Android based phones, dual Rokus , a PS VITA, one 2DS, a small NAS and one network printer. The range on this thing is very good. Slightly above average. But the really nice thing is the Nighthawks ability to keep the signals strong and constant. Though multiple concrete walls you will get a nice signal. Even weak signals stay connected and perform well. The router was tested with video streaming from a local NAS to all devices and the Nighthawk never flinched. I have the Nas hooked to the Usb 3.0 port on the Nighthawk. Works like a charm. The included software for this application is really nice, though requires a download. The included software is nice for beginners. It allows easy control over devices for internet access. Great for blocking the kids devices until school work is completed. The price is high in comparison to other routers out there. But the performance definitely matches the price. Well worth the investment if you can stretch the budget. Over I am extremely happy with this router. I have always used NETGEAR and am always please with their products.

I picked this over the ASUS 1900 and the equivalent Cisco router for $1 less is the store. I compared all the amenities and they all were the same, and went with the Netgear one to try something new after the Cisco troubles I was having. I got it home and set it all up, even following directions in Netgear forums to tweak things. Well, I currently get a max speed of 1.3Mbps on my desktop running on wifi through 1 wall and the only thing I seem to be able to get decent speeds on is my Xbox, but I went from a moderate NAT to a strict one even with all the ports forwarded and DHCP reservation set up. The *only* way I can correct this is to hook the cable directly into my modem, then I get the 25Mbps I pay for. Funny thing is I have the Arlo Pro cameras by NetGear and even those are hit or miss on signal from this router. 30+ days later with multiple resets & troubleshooting and I'm not having any better luck. Who knows, maybe I got a bad device. However, the app works better than the Cisco one I used on the old one/use at work so that is a plus. The interface using the 192.168.1.1 log-in is easier to use than the Cisco one too, minus a few odd tidbits. Overall, it's not bad because when it works, it works pretty good. And the Chromecast in the same room with this works fine 24/7. I'm still debating on returning this or trying to work through the issues to see if I can figure it out in the end. If you are on the fence about which to buy, all the above is something to consider.

Commerical Grade Router For Your Home!

I had the Netgear R6300 which was a great router but I wanted something more for my House hold that does a lot of internet based Streaming, Gaming and Commercial Grade tasks. This Router hit the nail on the head with all 3 categories. The Streaming and Gaming aspect was improved thanks to the QoS, Qaulity of Service, Now on some routers this particular feature is a horror show. However on the "Nighthawk" it actually works perfectly. The Router based on Devices decides how to router internet traffic. For instance the Apple TV Streaming Netflix will get priority over an iphone playing candy crush. The Range is Amazing but for the price and the size of the 3 High Gain Antennas I would hope it was. Another Aspect that was very appealing to me was the VPN Capabilities. Now I had been using an old server to accomplish this but I wanted to give the router a try as the features state it can do this. So I Setup the VPN Features which are pretty easy to do if you can read and tested them from a local star bucks to my house and I was able to access all my local resources at home such as other computers shared files, network storage drives and printers. This opens up a lot of possibilities for small business's who are on the road and need to print something to their local office or access an application that access's information on a server to utilize this, to even the guy who's on the road and wants to pull up some inhome security cameras. In Short if your looking for a Router that can take care of all the gaming/ streaming as well as take on some commercial tasks such as the VPN System this is your router!

Was moving from a Linksys E2000, which is a jump either way, I was mostly a Linksys person. I did like the dd-wrt firmware overall for using VPN, VLANs, etc. Knowing there was the additional community of http://myopenrouter.com/ that was in support of the netgear router set got my attention. Knowing i could go either way, stock firmware or opensource, was a major decision factor in purchasing this router. I wanted additional features such as the USB ports, High Power wireless-N / G, faster processor, higher RAM and Gig. Even though this router had all that, I wasn't sure on the price tag. I don't regret spending the extra money on it. I can't speak on behalf of the stock firmware. I did poke around in it before upgrading and it seemed feature rich but yet a bit unorganized. For an every day person, this firmware would get you by and allow you to use some of the extra features with ease. I used the following dd-wrt build http://myopenrouter.com/download/dd-wrt-firmware-netgear-r7000-based-revision-27261 but there is a newer revision out there. The build "upgraded" with ease from the stock firmware. I did have one hiccup while doing my initial config where the router locked up and i had to reset but that I'm going to attribute to user error. Otherwise i'm using the NAS, OpenVPN, Wireless N - G and G guest, Firewall support, VLANs, etc. The NAS is great with 2 - 2 TB drives so far. The only complaint i have is with copying large amounts of data to the hard drives. it seems to time out at times when doing so. Not sure if a firmware issue or a drive write speed even though its 3.0. Overall 3 months in a solid product that's running the way i want it to.

This R7000 can run as fast as the the MODEM can do from the service provider, over 100 Mbps. Setup can be done manually or using the NETGEAR genie app to follow. It's a dual band router handling both old 2.4 GHz and new 5 GHz devices. The 2 networks can be set to have the same parameters so both old and new devices can join as 1 network (i.e. a new phone using 5G can print out from an older printer running on 2.4G) Besides serving as a WiFi router, replacing the function of the one from the service provider (potential saving $ from the monthly rental), it can be set to use as a WiFi repeater or others (see specs), so make sure to set it correctly, though the setting page has helpful suggestions guiding to the right direction. There are more to play with in the settings for options such as signal strength, parental control, scheduling, filtering, file sharing... check them out. Beside LEDs at the ports, the unit has a row of LEDs on top indicating the status of it. Some also serve as control button as quick access to turn ON/OFF functions as needed (i.e. turn the WiFi OFF before going to bed to prevent RF radiation effecting on sleep if desired). The worse case, there is a power switch on the backside for cycling the power without getting to the AC adapter. Last but not least, there is an auto firmware update option to set, or login to check it manually to make sure it's up to date.

I bought this item to replace an old Linksys router that failed after years of service. At $200.00, I expected that Netgear had a product that would at least perform the basics well. I was disappointed the day after when I was unable to connect to the internet from 3 different wireless devices. I wasn't happy but thought this was a fluke, until it did the same thing the next 3 nights. I upgraded the firmware, that said it fixed a memory leak that could be interrupting wireless service. The words were nice to read, but the reality is it failed again. I called Netgear Technical Support. I'm hoping the person I got is one of the few that are truly that incompetent. After describing the issue (wireless stops working after a day# 5 times, she assumed I needed to upgrade the firmware. After asking what version she was having me upgrade to 3 times, we finally determined that I had the most recent version installed. The wireless router dropping its wireless service after a short amount of time is a known issue at netgear, and yet they have chosen to not resolve the issue. Unless you A. Are willing to reboot the router on a daily basis, or B. Plan to use it only for a wired experience, I would strongly suggest you buy a product from a different company #I replaced it with a Linksys WRT1900AC that was $50.00 more), but the money will be well spent if I don't need to reboot the router on a daily basis.

I have been a linksys/cisco person for years but gave this a try. It did not disappoint. Setup was the easiest I have ever had bar none, and I have set up my fair share of home networks. The range is great! I also paired with NETGEAR AC750 WIFI range extender without any trouble at all. The 12 plus devices I have connected enjoy great signals and fast transmission throughout the house. The management software is also excellent for home users as it easily allows you to lock down your network and prevent any new devices from connecting without additional permission (beyond just the network password). It also allows for a guest network on both bands with multiple security options e.g. allowing guests to see each others computers etc. I also added the NETGEAR A6100 WIFI USB mini adapter to my laptop for the complete AC experience. If you are looking to upgrade your system this router will do the trick. BTW I have been using for about 3 weeks without any issues whatsoever. I can't say that about my previous setup.

    Expected Better Range

I realize that it's a first-world problem when you can't find a router with enough range for your home, but I had hoped that the R7000 would have done just that. It does not. Set-up was easy, and our coverage is decent, but I now need to figure out how to extend its range. In the router's defense, my problem areas are our basement and the upstairs, opposite end of the house. I've used repeaters in the past, but always run into encryption issues which then forces us to open our network. I was told by the BestBuy salesman that my old router (a Netgear N600) could be used as an access point, but this does not seem to be the case, and two hours of my life was lost yesterday trying to obtain customer support from Netgear to explain how this can be done. They assured me it was possible, but when their suggestions did nothing to help, they simply ended our chat, issuing me a case number and reminding me that I could contact them at any time. Thanks? Arghhhhh! For some reason, iPads seem to have difficulty with the signal, you have to be within about 20 feet for things to stream properly, and its signal does occasionally drop when we''re upstairs, but I owe that more to the distance coupled with closed doors along the way. Now that I've mentioned all the bad, I should add that we now have secure wireless which performs very well in MOST cases. The connection also seems speedier, and I do like that there is a USB port on the front and buttons that are very user-friendly I'm only a couple of days into this, but am hopeful that I can make this work.

I am quite frustrated with this product. I've had this router for over a year, with no issues whatsoever. I have used Netgear for over 10 years and I felt like they were a superior product for my basic home needs. Not a fancy setup by any means but I felt that I aimed to have a connected home environment and wanted a seamless experience. After being prompted from Netgear to upgrade the firmware, the router bricked itself. I had to call Netgear support to get help, and since the router was past the 90 day period for support, I paid $89.99 to get assistance on 10/10/18. Today, none of my devices were able to connect to the Netgear AC1900 router. Extremely frustrated and called Netgear to get that money refunded and I decided to go out and get another Netgear router, the AC2300. Guess what? I installed it, followed the instructions and it directed me to upgrade it. Can you guess what happened? Yup! It bricked the BRAND NEW router. I had to return it and instead, I purchased the Google Wifi. I really hope Netgear figures out this issue as it is very disruptive and ultimately will lead to people looking for better products without these issues for updates.

I used Netgear routers for more than 10 years. But this will be the last one. In April my aging WNDR3700 lost 2.4 GHz. First replacement R6000 (?) came from Costco for $129. Failed on 3rd day, returned. The second replacement R7000 came from Best Buy for $170. After 2 months the 5 GHZ band failed. My computers could see all routers in neighborhood except my very own one. Now, the second part of the story. I called Netgear waited 1 hour, meantime I registered the product on their web site, figured out how to file a ticket (not so obvious - no direct link). Then I called again, gave the case # was told to wait 16 minutes, disconnected the call after 1.5 hour (!!!), and the non-stop propaganda about "effective service that the customers deserve". It made me sick. The third part of the story. The free phone, email (no address given!!!) and chat (no such option!!!) support is only for 90 days!!!! The guarantee period is 1 year. How to contact Netgear for free after 90 days?- nobody knows. By calling the corporate office? - writing letters? sending faxes to corporate address or fax #? Yes, they offer phone support if you pay for it! Just to summarize: They have no idea how to make quality products, they have no idea how to treat customers with respect, they have no sense of shame, so they do not deserve to stay in this business any longer.

Alright where to begin. So I bought this to replace the one I am currently renting from my ISP. Set-up was easy. Here's where things go down hill. The Netgear Genie routerlogin.net where you control your routers settings, hasn't been right since day one. No matter what I do I cannot set priority or change device names on anything (Online Tech Support can't even figure this out and there is currently an open trouble ticket it). Connected devices is never accurate and wont display all connected devices and when it does it will display my phone as a blue ray player or have my amazon echo a higher priority as my fire tv and I cannot change it. As for the wifi signal itself things are now extremely delayed for instance voice control from my alexa used to be instant or have a very short delay, now the delay is extremely long to the point where alexa will say not responding then the component will respond. Its almost like its not able to have all my wifi components connected at once very confusing. So after dealing with this for about a week with many hard resets. Firmware is up to date and verfied to be the latest by tech support. I don't know what else to do, maybe i got a bad apple but I think I will be returnig this router

I bought this along with the SURFboard SB6141 to replace the Comcast modem/router. It was more than I wanted to spend but after dealing with Comcast and the painfully slow speeds plus paying $8 a month rental I was pretty much fed up. I wrote about the slow speeds in my review of the SURFboard SB6141 but I'll recap; prior to this combo my download and upload speeds were both below 7Mbps. After pairing the SURFboard SB6141 modem and the R7000 my download speed in my first test (wireless) was 73.89Mbps download and 12.15Mbps upload. We have a 2 story home and although it's not located in the best spot (downstairs kinda in the corner of the house) reception is awesome. 83% is the least strength I'm getting at the furthest spot from the router....upstairs at the opposite end of the 2100SF house. Setup was not too bad. I ran into a bit of a problem that was probably my fault. Everything was working fine until I changed the default name and password then I lost my internet connection. I tried everything and finally gave up and hit the reset button. After that everything has worked perfectly. Pairing with other devices, samsung tablet, Kindles, phones, printer, smart tv, has been flawless. Make sure to follow the direction of unplugging your modem and then plugging it back it before connecting to the R7000...if you don't go through this step you may have problems. Can't go wrong with the R7000!
