Don't waste your money on this item. The devices in my house were having trouble connecting to the internet while this unit was powered on. When I unplugged it, everything went back to normal. I was trying to extend the internet to the back of my house and all I got was shotty service at best. Save your money and buy something different.

Got this on sale for $109. Very easy push button set up. My router is in the basement and i put the NETGEAR extender on the first floor of my home. Now i have full coverage on my first and second floor of my home. Without the extender, the wifi signal was very very weak on the first floor and almost non-existant on the second floor. I think this is a great value.

Purchase the unit in the store yesterday. Directions for set up said just push a button on the router and one on the Extender that’s all you have to do. WRONG! After about an hour and a half finally got it to work using the Netgear wizard. The wizard assumes you are a computer techie and uses language they would understand, but not so true for someone that uses technology, but does not know the language. The unit it self is doing as advertised. Improved my signal strength in all of my dead spots

Works nicely for a while then drops Internet

Netgear EX6400 WIFI Extender - if you have this problem don't waste your time trying to fix it; there apparently is no solution. When it is working properly this product offers outstanding performance. Unfortunately, after 10 days of trial and error, 5 calls to and hours on the phone with Netgear Tech Support (India), and returning and replacing the first device with a new one, I could not get the EX6400 to work for even one day without having to reboot it. While it was easy to set up and connect to my Netgear 6250 dual band router, and position in a location with a strong wifi signal, it would stay connected to the router, but all attached devices on the extender would show a “NO INTERNET CONNECTION” message with an ! through the wifi symbol after working for a while. The router and all devices connected directly to it would still have an internet connection. The only solution is to reboot the extender (not the router). Sometimes the problem would occur within minutes, sometimes hours. Unfortunately when the internet connection is lost, because the wifi is still connected the iPhone/iPad would automatically revert to using cellular data while attempting to connect to the internet even if standing next to the extender. The devices would not revert to the weaker router signal which still had an internet connection. Very frustrating. Netgear support at first tried to convince me there was signal interference from a microwave oven or cordless telephone. The router and extender have been updated to the latest firmware. So they had me move the extender to a position that was 25’ away from any possible source of interference. Then I changed the signal channels on the router. Neither solved the problem so they said it was a bad device that should be returned and replaced under warranty. The replacement, which I got from a different source to be sure I got one from a different batch had the same problem. SOLUTION: I returned the second EX6400 and exchanged it for a Netgear Nighthawk EX7000, which was only $8 more at Best Buy and provides slightly better performance and, so far after 2 days, appears stable not requiring rebooting to continue to operate properly. I don’t need 5 ethernet ports and would prefer not to have it taking up space on my credenza with its external antennae but so far it is doing its job well.

I bought this unit to replace an earlier generation which seemed to have several failures and recently just stopped working. It is an important part of our sugaring operation and converts Wifi to ethernet for our monitoring system which only has an ethernet port. Simple to initialize and setup for our network.

Purchased to address a router on one end of the house. Placed the extender in the middle of the house, and increased the speed at the other end of the house by a factor of ten. Does what it says it will do.

Easy to install and works great. Extended WiFi to our basement and the unified WiFi network allows seamless connections to both the router and the extender.

    Extender documentation with Spectrum

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My AC 1900 did not come with a manual but rather a card. There's a slide switch on the side that says "Access Point" and "Extender". If one doens't work, to set up with all but one green light, try the other setting. Mine is on "Extender" now and it works. IT was on the other side of the house now 50 feet from my external garage and it works, which with my Spectrum alone didn't. I had a Spectrum guy out thinking my Router was defective but he got it going. Now both routers (my Spectrum and my extender have the same Routername and PW. Their documentation leaves some to be desired, and spectrums isn't so hot either. Spectrum's online chat helpdesk says my Spectrum model router doesnt work with the extender, but she was wrong. I had a tech out who got it going quickly. Spectrum should be providing an extender like AT&T does, but AT*T's (my last svc in another city) delivered me 5 bars, but Spectrum at best, even in the same room as the router only delivers two. They need to deal with this! Model Nr needs a sticker on it with large print, and trained people on the phone. Typical, their websites laid out to UP- SELL svc to you rather than help you troubleshoot and install!

We were unable to get Internet at our house so I got the Netgear AC1900. We plugged it in the wall nearest my neighbour's (sister in law) house and used their Internet to power our entire house as our children needed internet for online school. It worked GREAT! Far better than the hotspot we had been using. I couldn't be more satisfied!
