My previous TP Link adapter had unfortunately failed me more than I was hoping. It worked great and since I mainly use 5G, that was the signal that I primarily use since it provides the most power and speed. I was no longer able to connect to this connection for some odd reason and internet searches for why didnt provide me a reliable answer. I turned to Best Buy, instead of Amazon for electronics this time and saw reviews and videos on this adapter, so I took a dive and bought it. The base that it connects to is magnetic so make sure you DONT have it near your phone or other electronic devices besides the case of your desktop computer. With that said, the magnetic base sticks to whatever metal platform effortlessly and will not slide. The adapter is fairly large, but it does not need the base to connect. The set up was about 5 minutes and it was connecting to internet very quickly after. The meat and potatoes of this is the connection itself. They advertise as the fastest and most seamless connection. Let me tell you, its TRUE. the connection is incredibly fast, quick, and will give you the highest speeds possible out of whatever router you have. Previous adapters I've had only connected and gave me speeds of maybe 500 or 600 mbps, roughly a 3rd of what my router can offer. This adapter gave me a whopping 1.3 GBPS!!! Web pages open in less than a second, games with friends play no problem, downloads are ridiculously fast. Even 2.4ghz offers crazy speeds of about 200-300 mbps. I'm telling you, you cant go wrong with this adapter, if you need a constant connection and a FAST one at that, buy this bad boy.

Purchased this to increase my desktop's ability to receive wifi. I paired this with my NetGear wifi extender and couldn't be happier. Installation was quite easy. I used the installation disk and allowed it to search for updates. My internet is now stable and very fast. I am thrilled my computer work will not be interrupted by a weak signal. Definitely worth the cost.

This product was a great addition to a 6 year old desktop computer that still had great processing power, but lacked a modern networking card. The old networking card was only getting minimal speeds through download and upload speeds, even after upgrading our modem/router to the NETGEAR - Nighthawk Dual-Band AC3200 Router with 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem. After researching purchasing a new network card I had read multiple reviews saying this product was a cheaper and great fix. I must agree with all of the reviews I read, this product is amazing and was easy to set up. It took less than 5 minutes to set up and within 2 minutes after disabling the old networking card and this product coming online, the download / upload speeds went from 9.8MBps / 3.8 MBps to 378.4 MBps / 39.8 MBps! I am completely satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend anyone looking to upgrade an old network card to look into this alternative.

This thing saved my life!!! I live in a garage thats turned into a bedroom and i unable to run a ethernet cable to my room. My pc has terrible wifi connection. not even a distance of a foot would work. I tried other wifi extenders but nothing seemed to work until someone at best buy recommended this to me and it has been life changing. i can finally game without ethernet and still get wifi connection at decent speeds. I dont know what i would have done without this little thing :)

Had to buy this because my desktop doesn't have a integrated WiFi card and it's too far from the modem/router. I went with this one because seems to be powerful enough that I wouldn't need to worry about the signal dropping out. I haven't had any problems, it's been consistent with the connection and even though the software that uses for connecting doesn't seem polished it hasn't crashed or anything. Speeds when I download stuff ( games, torrents) are consistent and similar to my reported ISP speeds.
Also the magnet helps to put it out of the way.

Purchased this for a Cybertron gaming PC that didn't have a built-in WiFi adapter installed. A disc with driver software was included, but since the gaming PC didn't have a suitable disc drive, I installed the software from Netgear's website onto a USB thumb drive using a different computer. Software installed quickly and easily and the WiFi adapter instantly recognized all the nearby signals. Couldn't have been any easier to setup. Downloading games was pretty quick, and the adapter has worked flawlessly since it was installed.
The base (or docking station) for the device has a strong magnet in it, so it should be kept away from mechanical hard disk drives and anything else that might be affected by a magnetic field. It can attach to a metal computer case, but seems like a bad idea to me. Depends on where your hardware is installed inside the computer case in relation to where the magnet is attached on the outside of the case. Use caution.
Software looked like it was designed for release with Windows 1.0 in 1985 which I thought was kind of unusual. Definitely "tool" software that's not intended to impress aesthetically, but that's intended to get the job done.
I would buy again, and I recommend it for anyone who needs a WiFi adapter.

I had damaged the original WiFi adapter that came with our desktop computer. Also I had accepted the download speed that we were getting on the 500Mbps internet from our ISP provider. 150Mbps was our max download speed.
I shopped Best Buy online and found the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900.
I purchased it for 2 reasons. Price and performance specs.
Went to the store and made the purchase.
Install was a snap.
Also, it was a good thing that Netgear provides a magnetic cradle with this adapter. The 1900 is much larger than the original and wouldn't fit in the space behind the computer.
Performance was a blazing 586 Mbps download.
This Nighthawk AC1900 is worth every dollar and I strongly recommend this WiFi adaptor.

I got this for my son, he was using another popular brand that was dual band also but not providing the same coverage or bandwidth. This is on a desktop that is far from the router and extender. The performance is great, he is not experiencing lag. It is a little pricy but worth the money. It is pretty large but comes with a stand or you can plug it in directly.

The NETGEAR - Nighthawk AC1900 Dual-Band WiFi USB 3.0 Adapter is easy to install and gives Me both superior connectivity and blazing speed! My computer is 2 floors away from my router, but my speeds from speed test are 178.68 download and 154.47 upload from my Nextlight gigabit internet. Best wifi speeds I've ever had!

It was quick and easy to get this set up - I downloaded just the driver (not the Netgear Genie) from their website, installed it, then it was plug and play from there. If you already have a network adapter, you may need to disable the original adapter, then make sure the Nighthawk is enabled. The Nighthawk is almost as fast as my phone (Nighthawk was 253 Mbps, new Pixel 5 was 280 Mbps), but barely a difference.
I recently bought a super-fast desktop but was upset to learn the manufacturer installed an Intel AC 3168 wireless card in it. On my 300 Mbps internet connection, it only gets 50mbps. Of course, the card is wedged behind the water cooler and not easy (for the inexperienced) to get to, so that's where the search for a USB Wifi adapter came in. The Nighthawk is 5x faster than the installed adapter, and the signal strength is much better. I heard reports of packet loss and dropped connecting with this model, but I haven't had any issues yet. I'll update this review if they occur. So far, I'm happy with my choice.

DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE!!!
If I was only reviewing the adapter itself, this would be a 5-star review. It's fast, it's easy, it's awesome. It's 3 stars because the software that comes with it is horrible and aggravating.
If you just plug it in and let windows do its thing, you're fine.
If you make the mistake of following the instructions and installing the included software, kiss the next 4 hours goodbye. You will be stuck in a loop of installing, uninstalling, and rebooting until you have scraped all remnants of the vile code away, and then, just plug the adapter in and let it do it's thing.

The only downside is the software.. you only need the driver and can delete the software afterwards if you do some work around. Performance is solid and it increases the download speed tremendously if you have an old wifi card. Recommended.

I needed a network adapter for my system since the built-in was failing and since I've had good luck with Netgear in the past, this one was a good candidate. Ran the install and plugged it in and was up and running, but not without a couple of problems first. First, it didn't like when I tried changing networks from 5G to 2.4G and back. It actually locked up my system's USB inputs until I removed and re-inserted it. A firmware update and disabling of a service was required to fix it and so far it hasn't come back. Time will tell. Second, it's BIG and the base that it comes with has an equally large magnet in it for some reason which limited where I wanted to set it, so it sits on my floor away from anything sensitive.
Once I got it up and running, I noticed ti has really great reception, getting me over 300Meg of my Gig line through two floors and a wall. It also picked up a good number of networks that the other adapter didn't even see. So far latency has been good and speed-wise, it's a huge improvement. A little pricey when compared to the next "step down", but it does the job and does it well.

I have always insisted on wiring my gaming PC with an Ethernet cable in order to maintain a constant connection, but with that not being an option in my latest home I opted for this device. It has turned a fairly low-end cable internet connection out to be more than enough for gaming and streaming on a PC around 50 feet away. Well worth the price, sets up easily as well. Just make sure you have some way to download the driver and software to your device.

They're huge! I didn't realize from the picture how large these dongles were. I have never seena wi-fi adapter so big before in my life. But the upside is that they are ridiculously fast. I got two of these for my kids to use on their computers in their rooms and they get faster downloads on these wi-fi adapters than I get wired in directly to the router. They routinely push past 600Mbps on Speedtest.net and haven't had any issues with dropped connections. The magnetic bases stuck right to the top of their computer towers and keep the wi-fi adapters away from the heat at the back of their computers to make sure they don't get too hot and throttle their performance. Overall I am extremely impressed with these and recommend them to anyone who wants a hassle free wi-fi experience in an extra large package.

I just moved into a new house and my primary desktop computer is upstairs from the router, with no easy way to run an ethernet cable up to it without doing some house modifications. Until then I decided to get a wifi adapter. This adapter works very well! I get around 160 mbps down and 50 up. Enough to stream without interruption. I've also tested multiple games and haven't had any lag or issues with ping. So far I've played FFXIV, Diablo 4, and Darktide without any issues!

This adapter did not want to cooperate with my Comcast (Xfinity) provided router (Technicolor). Except for one brief occurrence, the adapter was unable to pull an IP address. Even when it briefly had an IP, it could not reach the internet. I tried to assign static info to the adapter, but the adapter was still unable to reach the internet. The device continually tried to swap to another band that was being broadcast from my router. Unfortunately, due to the distance between the two devices, this was not going to work. When I tried to force the device to stay on a selected band, it just would not cooperate. In hindsight, I could have disabled the problematic band on my router long enough to connect the device and then re-enabled the band afterward. This will typically resolve issues of the like, but I was up way too late and was way too tired to deal with the issue. I also did not have time to screw around with it anymore, so I ended up returning the item for an easier to install Linksys AC1200 USB WiFi adapter (which worked as if it was plug-n-play). I have 20+ years of IT experience, but I just didn't have patience to spare with working out the issue with the Nighthawk, unfortunately. I would have loved to have had the extra speed it could have provided. I might swap to one later on, when things slow down a bit.
