I am a professional Audio/video person with over 30 years of experience. I purchased this unit and I was very pleased with the set up and speed of this piece. I recently did a system upgrade and disconnected it from power for a couple of hours and it lost all of my setting and returned to the factory default state. Netgear will only support it for the 1st year and then you can throw it away. I would not buy this again. My 5G shows up sporadically and the 2.4 works consistently. I need reliability and stability in which this has failed numerous times.

Awesome router combo package in one

I’ve received this item to review and test the NETGEAR AC1900 Nighthawk Cable Modem Router for free.
Current I have the Motorola SB6141 Modem with Nighthawk X4 AC2350 Smart Wi-Fi Dual-Band Wireless-AC Router. The Nighthawk X4 is an awesome router combined with Motorola SB6141 Modem. Always have the top speed connection and never see any buffering with 3 Android TV watching, 3 ipad, 5 ip camera all through wireless connection.
Now back to Netgear C7000 AC 1900 modem and combo review.
I received this modem within three business days straight from NETGEAR, upon receiving the box I immediately opened the product to expect and review the condition I received the item in just in case there was an issue but I didn’t find one besides that the item seems to have been previously used (Very Lightly) due to the NETGEAR sticker being broken.
Setup:
The setup for this modem was very easy and straight forward process. I had configured the Motorola SB6141 Modem before and it seem like the same. One thing is I have to contact Comcast to provide the MAC address of the router before I can connect to the internet. If you had been setup a Netgear router before this would be the same Wi-Fi setup. The only different is that this combine both Modem and Router.
Setting up the Wi-Fi for this modem is easy too thanks to the NETGEAR Genie, I’ve had pass experience with NETGEAR Routers so using the NETGEAR Genie was a breeze and almost any user that is new with any product that NETGEAR produces will have a very fast setup process.
Features:
The features of this modem are awesome with it being a 2-1 Modem I am able to remove the middle man that I’ve always had on my desk (i.e. standalone router) that has always plagued all mankind since its existence.
Beamforming that this modem includes is an awesome feature to have, before with my standalone router I always had so little distance that I could go before losing my connection with the router while being on my phone so now I am covered all over my house. I had the same coverage range as the Nighthawk x4 router but never tested with all of the device mentioned above. I will tested out more during the week and update it here.
24x8 Channel Bonding that’s 24 Downstream channels and 8 Upstream channels allowing for a better connection. This means I’ll enjoy full connection with the Comcast Servers while at high peak usage hours in my town when everyone is connected.
Right out of the box the performance with the Netgear C7000 Modem&Router combo is amazing I’m reaching the over the speed that my connection is allowed in my area at 176Mbps/12Mbps speed - (my Max speed should at 150Mbps with Comcast).
Products Specs. Meet????
-------YES-------
I’m enjoying this modem combo of everything that it has to offer and feeling a bit future proof for now thanks to it having the 24x8 downstream channels, beamforming for Wi-Fi , and for it being a DOCSIS 3.0 Modem.
Price Range????
This device is a little over priced at $279.99. Mostly any high-end user they would spend the same amount of money or less for a new higher Wi-Fi speed router combine (Netgear Nighthawk x4 download at 2.33 Gbps price at $239.99).
Would I recommend this to a friend or family?????
-----Another YES--------
Due to its extreme performance and punishment that it can take while being connected to one or more computers even with all the wireless devices that are connected to it right now.

I've had this since December 2019 and have had nothing but broblems since day 1. If you enjoy slow speeds, weak upstream, and constant loss of connections, then this is the modem for you. Xfinity and Netgear have done nothing but point fingers and place balme on each other, and have done absolutely nothing to correct the problem, whatever it may be. Consider yourself warned

DO NOT BUY! I hooked this up and you have to install the netgear nighthawk app to use it. After several chats and phone calls the rep finally says there is a bug in this new model on the app it says I need to update the firmware and I do not need to do that. It has the latest firmware so the HONEST rep finally tells me about the bugs in the app for this model and how to shake my iPhone and report it. Was so unhappy with this product!!

AMAZING Modem/Router with crazy speeds!!!

This is one AMAZING modem/router. Usually, I don't buy Modem/Router combinations because I heard there are so many problems associated with combo machines, but because I received this router as part of a Netgear Friends and Family program, I decided there was nothing to lose and boy am I glad I tried it out!!!
First off, setup was so easy. It took literally 7 minutes from open to having it running. I called my cable company (time warner) to let them know my MAC address and I was up and running after the call.
But what was so amazing is the incredible speed this modem/router brings! With the modem that I was renting from Time Warner, I was maxing at download speeds of 12Mbps and upload speeds of 1 Mbps. But after installing this DOCSIS 3.0 modem, I was getting download speeds of 60Mbps and upload speeds of 5Mbps! This is a 5x jump in speeds (both download and upload) all for the same price (I am under the same internet package and did not purchase an upgraded plan). It literally made my eyes well up with tears of joy!!!
Lastly, I've been running this modem for 1 1/2 weeks now (I wanted to wait a while before writing a review to see if anything gets messed up) and honestly I have ZERO issues with this Modem/Router combo and I'm so glad I got this! I am never going back to renting a modem from my cable company and it looks like I will keep this modem/router combo for as long as it will last me! It's fast, it's reliable, it's easy, and it saves me tons of money...what more could you possibly ask for?!?!
I would recommend this modem to any of my friends - any day of the week!

I recently upgraded to the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900, and the difference in my home network is night and day. The setup was straightforward, and having a 2-in-1 modem and router combo really cleared up the clutter on my desk. I’ve noticed a significant boost in streaming quality with zero buffering, even when multiple devices are connected at once. The range is fantastic, reaching corners of my house that used to be dead zones. If you're looking to stop renting equipment from your ISP and want reliable, high-speed performance, this is a solid investment.

Disclaimer: I received the Nighthawk AC1900 Router through NetGear's Friend's and Family test and review program. All comments and thoughts that make up this review are mine and mine alone; I received no pressure from the company to post a biased or untruthful review.
What led me to searching for another router/modem was that the Comcast gateway rental that we were using is not powerful enough to distribute a WiFi signal throughout the entire house. I currently live in a house with two floors, and with the router downstairs, the people living upstairs (which includes me) don't get enough signal. When I was offered to test the Nighthawk AC1900, it worked out perfectly as this would eliminate the need for a separate modem.
Due to the nature of our Internet problem, we have two ISP accounts from Comcast with a 70mbs and 150mbs plan respectively. I tested the Nighthawk AC1900 on the 150mbs Blast! network for the best results. For comprehensive purposes, I have broken down this review into multiple sections.
Setup
Setting up the Nighthawk AC1900 was fairly straightforward. The product comes with an easy to read manual if you get stuck along the way. After plugging in the router and connecting it to the internet in the house, the router began to set itself up. It took about 10 minutes to fully boot up and begin transmitting a wireless signal.
A tip for those with Comcast: I was unable to actually connect to the internet until I verified my account information through a Comcast pop-up box. Make sure you do this if you are not able to connect to the internet after the router boots up.
After I verified the information, the router updated and I was connected to the internet. Relatively painless process that was easy and straightforward. Setup is 10/10.
Features
The Nighthawk AC1900 has two WiFi signal that it uses: 2.4G and 5G. I personally love this feature, as it allows me to connect older and newer devices at optimized speeds. My ancient computer from 2010 can't use the faster 5G signal, but uses the 2.4G flawlessly. My Moto X smartphone is able to connect to it to the 5G, and is significantly faster. I'd prefer that all my devices are able to use the 5G band, but that is a hardware issue on my part. Looks like its time to upgrade the rest of the gadgets.
The Nighthawk AC1900 also comes with an integrated router management system, which I'm using to manage who connects to the router and network names. Two other features that are included are USB drive sharing and wireless printing. We already have a wireless printer, so I decided to test the USB drive sharing. It looks like a great way to share a hard-drive across a household; I was able to drop some files in it and extract them from a different computer. A cool feature, even though I mainly use DropBox for document sharing. Features are given a 10/10.
Performance
This was difficult to test, as I was uncertain whether the problems are ISP based or from the router. The first thing I did after setting up the router is speed test it—many, many times. The various speed tests I used were:
- Ookla speed test http://www.speedtest.net/
- Comcast speed test (also powered by Ookla) http://speedtest.comcast.net/
- Xbox360 Network Statistics test
- Ookla speed test mobile app
I ran 20 tests on the 2.4G band on my computer and smartphone, 20 tests on the 5G band on my smartphone, and 5 network statistics tests on my Xbox. I stripped the outliers outside two standard deviations and averaged the results grouped into the different test locations.
When I was hardwired into the router, I was getting insane speeds. This proved that the router itself was able to get the full speed that was being offered by my ISP. I have included a summarized list of speeds below:
*All speeds measured in megabytes per second (mbps)
- Hardwired Ethernet Cable
Avg. Download Speed: 158.12
Avg. Upload Speed: 11.97
- 2.4G WiFi Signal ~5 meter distance
Avg. Download Speed: 41.86
Avg. Upload Speed: 12.11
- 2.4G WiFi Signal ~15 meter distance (upstairs)
Avg. Download Speed: 28.90
Avg. Upload Speed: 11.05
- 5G WiFi Signal ~5 meter distance (Smartphone)
Avg. Download Speed: 78.29
Avg. Upload Speed: 12.59
- 5G WiFi Signal ~15 meter distance (Smartphone upstairs)
Avg. Download Speed: 31.45
Avg Upload Speed: 10.85
As you can see, the signal is reduced significantly upstairs by about 2/3. WiFi signal typically has a standard loss rate of about 50% of actual speed, so it is performing slightly less than expected. I am getting ~2 bars of WiFi signal upstairs, which is disappointing as I was hoping the Nighthawk AC1900 would be able to transmit a full signal throughout the entire house. I want a router that's able to give my neighbor down the street 2 bars of WiFi, and apparently this is not the router for that.
I performed some bandwidth tests, where I had 4 devices simultaneously connected and streaming video. The router was able to handle all of the devices, but at the cost of reduced speeds on every device. The xbox we have upstairs is also not receiving optimal speeds (~11up and down); this is a problem as it is essentially our dedicated Netflix machine and we do not want any buffering to happen.
My main gripe for performance is that the Nighthawk AC1900 is not able to distribute its WiFi signal evenly throughout a two-story house. The signal loss rate is slightly below average, and falls within acceptable range. However, the router is able to handle the hardwired speeds with ease, and the 5G signal is very fast while on the same floor as the router. All in all, performance receives a 7/10.
The Nighthawk AC1900 fell a little short of my expectations; however, I have fairly high expectations when it comes to Internet speeds. For the price (currently $279.99 as of this review), I would like much more powerful WiFi signal distribution. It falls on the expensive end of routers, but since it is also a cable modem the price is more fair. A large bonus is that it eliminates the need for any surplus equipment from your ISP, such as any modem rentals.
If you are a performance nut, and need your fast internet speeds over WiFi, I would recommend purchasing a separate modem and router. If you like decently fast internet, live in a one story home, and don't want to stress over modems, routers & excess wires, then the Nighthawk AC1900 is for you.

Upgraded from an old Moto Surfboard modem & Apple AirPort Extreme. The Nighthawk is absolutely fantastic with the speed increase. Still on the 100mbps plan from Cox, but now getting FAR faster speeds, better coverage & can have many devices online at once with no issues. Was able to stream a 4K HDR movie (AppleTV 4K) and a 1080p movie (appleTV) with a hue sync box (active backlights) as well as about a dozen hue lights, wemo switches, ring cameras, WiFi garage door opener, and 4 iOS devices all at once and not a single slowdown. Have never been able to use so many devices at once let alone get very fast speeds. Setup was easy, the app allows for parental controls, guest WiFi, device monitoring etc. If you are experiencing slow connection & have an older modem, go with something like this before upgrading your internet plan. The 24 down channels bonding allows for massive amounts of data transfer (our old modem was 4 down channels). This is a great combo unit (modem & WiFi router). Very very pleased with the results!

Extreme Performance Modem/Router From NETGEAR.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I’ve received this item to review and test the NETGEAR AC1900 Nighthawk Cable Modem Router, thanks to being part of the NETGEAR Friends & Family Test & Review Program. I’m very happy to be part of this Program and will be giving all honest reviews throughout my participation with this program.
~First Thoughts~
I received this modem within three business days straight from NETGEAR, upon receiving the box I immediately opened the product to expect and review the condition I received the item in just in case there was an issue but I didn’t find one besides that the item seems to have been previously used (Very Lightly) due to the NETGEAR sticker being broken.
I’ve heard of the Nighthawk Routers that you can find though “Newegg, Amazon, BestBuy” and all other websites that you can buy them from. I enjoy the great reviews from those products it has always made me want to own one but I have never had the chance to get one.
This is the first time that I’ve heard about the Nighthawk Cable Modem/Router that seems to have been released this year so being able to test this item and review it has been a privilege and honor.
~Setup~
The setup for this modem was very easy and straight forward process. I did currently own a NETGEAR modem the CM500 that I bought this year at $120 so I had to swap out modems with Comcast which was a bit of a process due to Comcast out sourcing their Customer Care Service.
Setting up the Wi-Fi for this modem is easy too thanks to the NETGEAR Genie, I’ve had pass experience with NETGEAR Modems & Routers so using the NETGEAR Genie was a breeze and almost any user that is new with any product that NETGEAR produces will have a very fast setup process.
~Features~
The features of this modem are awesome with it being a 2-1 Modem I am able to remove the middle man that I’ve always had on my desk (i.e. standalone router) that has always plagued all mankind since its existence.
Beamforming that this modem includes is an awesome feature to have, before with my standalone router I always had so little distance that I could go before losing my connection with the router while being on my phone so now I am covered all over my house. I have never experience this before and I believe that it only works on the 5GHz channel.
Another neat little thing is now I can see what 2.4GHz & 5GHz Wi-Fi networks that are cluttering the surrounding area that I live in and being able to see this I am able to figure out what channel to move too for a better signal if needed.
24x8 Channel Bonding that’s 24 Downstream channels and 8 Upstream channels allowing for a better connection. This means I’ll enjoy full connection with the Comcast Servers while at high peak usage hours in my town when everyone is connected.
~Performance~
Right out of the box the performance with this Nighthawk Modem is amazing I’m reaching the max that my connection is allowed in my area until I upgrade my package at a later time but right now I’m on the Blast 93Mbps/12Mbps speeds.
The 24 Downstream bonding channels will future proof myself until Comcast deploys the 24 channels in my area currently its 16x4 bonding and with this modem allowing me to have 8 upstream channels that will also help out a lot when they implement these bonding channels.
Downloading huge files within “Steam-Game Client” have never been faster before at 12MB/s giving me the chance to enjoy my games better within a less time frame with downloading them to my computer. Ping has been a problem for a while for me but now that’s better too thanks to everything being a 2-1 Modem.
~Did Product meet my expectation?~
YES!!
I’m really enjoying this modem because of everything that it has to offer and feeling a bit future proof for now thanks to it having the 24x8 downstream channels, beamforming for Wi-Fi , and for it being a DOCSIS 3.0 Modem.
I do hope they release a DOCSIS 3.1 Modem soon within the next year.
~Price-value~
The price on this modem is a bit pricey at the moment in time with its price tag at $279.99 so I’m not sure if everyone would jump out and grab this modem at this full price range so I hope over some time that the price on it does go down so all end users can enjoy this great modem.
~Would I recommend this modem to my friends and or a family member?~
Another yes from me due to its extreme performance and punishment that it can take while being connected to one or more computers even with all the wireless devices that are connected to it right now.
