I just can't like it, at all. I ended up returning it to just get a standalone wifi 6 nighthawk. Hopefully that device works aa advertised. My devices were dropping regularly off the router, even being on the same wall. Listen to other reviews and avoid this aa all costs.

I can't use it, so far. First of all you have to download an app, and then you can't use the app until you create a login. I didn't want to wait for 2 days while I read the agreement(s) so I accepted. I am then led by the nose through an installation process that fails. So I go to support, but my model number is not recognized.

Returned the device. In my particular situation, I needed a router with more antennas (went with a 4x4 and 8x8) because of the house material didn't allow signal through. Ended up with the Ubiquiti alien router. This application may suite well for a one floor house.

Technology can be a very personal thing for some people. For some, it’s all about the newest feature sets, and the functionality that makes a product that much better than its predecessor. These new products are often outlandish in design, and function… costing large sums of money, all for that cool look, and bleeding edge tech. For others, it’s all about attempting to turn their tech into things that appear to be pieces of art Then there’s the other subset of individuals who want their product to just work, not be seen. They don’t want artwork and they sure as heck don’t want flashy. Too often, today, you see either a or b.. But rarely c. To me, that changed, last year, when Netgear released their RBK12 Orbi system, and they look to continue the trend, this year. Netgear’s new Nighthawk MK62 Whole Home Mesh Wifi system, (henceforth just referred to as MK62) looks to return the conservative design back into the home. The system consists of at least 2 separate pieces of equipment… the MR60 Router, and an MS60 Repeater/Satellite. You can either stick with one of each, or you can purchase additional MR60’s to improve your wireless coverage. Small, and unobtrusive, the MK62 can sit on a bookshelf, or a desk.. And not draw any attention to itself.. And that, I believe, is the biggest plus to this system. Sure, you get many of the modern features and functionality that you’ve come to expect: 1.) You get coverage that is on par (slightly better in my experience) with Netgear’s current ‘Orbi’ system, including the ability to not only extend a wireless signal, but bridge two wired segments, over a wireless connection… AND you can buy more extenders/repeaters/bridges to expand the network even more 2.) 802.11ax signal for backwards and forward compatibility 3.) MU-MIMO beamforming for 4k video streaming 4.) Multiple Wifi networks, which not only come in handy for various device connectivity on multiple bands.. But also for those pesky guests that come over, and want to freeload your wifi ;) 5.) Nighthawk app support which allows you to do setups and general device management, without sitting in front of a PC to do so 6.) WPA3 support, which is quickly being adopted for more secure networks. (Of note, the Nighthawk app, initially, had a strange issue when I opened it up, manually, and it detected the system as an MR60.. reporting that it didn't support it... however, upon scanning the QR code included with the unit, it worked fine, and I was unable to get it to reproduce that bug.) Sure.. you get all of this.. But unlike many other systems, the router and the extenders can be placed in quiet locations around the house, without screaming out to the world ‘LOOK AT ME!!’. That’s a feature that most people will overlook, but I’ve come to really miss, in modern tech. Now, of course, it’s not all wine and roses, and there’s a few things that should be mentioned for those that are considering this system. Even though some of these concerns are not limited to just this system, I always prefer to tell people, up front, about my current experience while testing a unit: 1.) If you currently have a bunch of devices hardwired to your existing router, AND you’re not using an external switch.. You’re going to want to invest in a switch, as well. These devices have single ports for hardwired network connectivity. For ME, this isn’t an issue, as I’ve long ago stopped using the switch built into routers awhile ago.. But I can see why this might be an issue for some users. For those individuals using a small home based IDS, such as a Fingbox, you will want to realize that you may run into some issues if you don’t plug the device directly into the Router. This is a very real concern with any router that has a single LAN port on it. You may want to research this, beforehand. 2.) While the coverage on this system is amazing, be conscious of what you’re purchasing. If you’re expecting a device that has multi-level QoS.. Keep in mind this is a relatively inexpensive home router and extender.. Not a commercial grade system. 3.) To go hand in hand with #2, if you’re expecting to be able to connect 50+ wireless devices that will be streaming and downloading concurrently, then you’re probably going to want to consider a higher end system. Don’t buy this for a small office, and then get upset because your 100 employees are complaining of lower speeds. For me, this was a bit of a limiting factor, due to the fact that it’s not unheard of for us to have upwards of 60 wireless devices on our network… I am being realistic here.. I know I’m an exception to the rule. 4.) If you are running a network, or an internet connection greater than 1Gbps, keep in mind that this is a 1gbps device. While most people haven’t adopted 10GBase-T, yet, it IS expanding into homes, so it’s something to be aware of. (most home/consumer routers have this limitation) Again, I’m an exception to this rule, as well.. While my internet connection is less than 1 gbps, my wired home network is running 10Gig. (less an issue, since you’ll likely be using a 10Gbps switch connected to the router.. But still, something to be aware of) 5.) This unit seems to have the same issues that occasionally pop up with any wifi mesh system, in that some devices, no matter what you do, will always attempt to connect to the further wireless access. Why this happens, I have no idea.. But I can openly state that it happens across multiple vendors, and multiple systems, and is NOT limited to Negear in any way. 6.) This system, as well as many other systems being produced by multiple vendors, includes a free cat 5e cable with it. However, to note, the cat 5e cable included is the flat ‘ribbon’ style that many vendors are including with their devices. Flat network cables are immensely cheap, and most of the time don’t adhere to the spec they claim. While many users like them because they’re easier to hide, my recommendation is to immediately throw out this cable, and use a good quality cable… even if it means you find it a bit harder to hide the cable... I’d love to knock a point off, due to this, but it’s something every manufacturer is doing, now, to cut costs, and is definitely not limited to Netgear. While experimenting with the device, I experienced zero signal drops, but did occasionally have a connected device switch wireless connection points, for unknown reasons. This didn't affect performance at all, it's just an interesting observation. I averaged better performance than my original Gen1 Orbi system, both in throughput, signal strength, and latency. The biggest improvement is streaming music and video to my shed.. often while working out there, I will either have music or video playing at one end.. and I used to have to keep the door open in order to not have occasional signal loss. (Aluminum shed) With this system, I don't seem to be losing signal... that's a HUGE plus in my book. Ultimately, for me, I enjoy the extra coverage of this system, and the performance is more than acceptable for most users. I have decided to sort of have the best of both worlds, as it were, running this system in as a way to extend coverage, and then use a higher end router to handle my QoS and device management. While the product doesn’t meet all of MY needs, I also realize I’m probably not the ideal user for this product, and I’ve tempered my expectations accordingly. To be perfectly honest, I’ve not found any one product that meets all of my demands, so I’ve had to piece together my network with multiple products, instead. With a price point squarely aimed at the budget conscious user, who wants a good balance between performance, and price… if you’re an average, to slight power user.. This product should exceed your demands for a router and wifi coverage. I highly recommended this product, and I’m happy to say it’s part of my network configuration for coverage :) Full disclaimer, I was approached by Netgear to eval this product and give them (and you) a full review of my thoughts.

These small guys work great for the house ~2,500 sqf. When Verizon's technician came he was skeptical and started looking for the best spot to put the router but then checked the signal strength of all satellites and was very surprised how strong is it so we put the router in a basement, one satellite on the first floor and another on the second. Connection is great, very easy to set up and control your network with their app. And very reasonable price comparing to competitors.

This is a review of the Netgear Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6 system (MK62), a truly amazing mesh system that won’t break the bank. I won’t bury the lead here, I recommend this system for everyone that wants the latest WiFi technology except for the very few, most-power-requiring power users who are also willing to spend multiple hundreds of dollars more. I don’t know anyone that wouldn’t love this system! First, the devices are really small and look great in the locations where I have the router and satellite running. I really like the Escher-esque styling of the devices and I think they are small enough that nobody would complain about their size. The aesthetics of the devices are also supposed to help with the ventilation so not only is the design beautiful but also functional. As with the typical Netgear setup, they once again made the setup so simple that my grandma could whiz through it. You get a single card with the setup instructions with three steps and the last one is “Explore”. Sure that is oversimplifying it as step one is downloading the app and step two is following the instructions on the app. But the app walks you step by step through the easy process and you are done before you know it. I don’t think it even took 15 minutes and I took some time to make notes for this review during the process. For those that don’t want to use the easy to use app to do their configuration there is also an on-board web page that will allow you to set all the settings manually and get into more of the advanced features. This is great for those that want a high level of control and to really customize their configuration. Definitely not for grandma but if you know what you are doing you will appreciate the power this provides. I recommend that if you do want to get into these weeds you use the app to get the basic setup finished then use the full control to tweak the additional parameters. This is something I like to do so I really like this capability. Once you get it set up you will see how well this system performs. It is amazing as far as speed and coverage is concerned. I have a device that tests WiFi strength and I ran multiple tests and had great results. There was little drop off anywhere within my home, including in my traditionally dead areas due to stairs, and multiple walls with kitchen appliances and etc. I turned off the satellite and did some testing to see the performance of the main router alone, and that provides decent coverage just by itself although I definitely want to take advantage of the satellite. The Nighthawk Mesh WiFi 6 system uses, as the name implies, the newest WiFi standard or what is now called WiFi 6 (Also known as 802.11AX). To simplify what this means I like to tell people this: it is like when you used your phone on public WiFi in a crowded place and it is really slow, but you switch to your cellular provider’s data instead and it is much faster. WiFi 6 will provide a similar performance boost, especially if you are using a lot of devices and they are creating a lot of traffic because WiFi 6 is able to send data from multiple devices simultaneously instead of requiring them to finish the traffic from one device before starting on the data for the next. The one potential downside I see of this system are the lack of ethernet ports on the router and the satellite. Both the router and the satellite have only one each (not counting the router’s ethernet link for the modem). On the more expensive WiFi 6 systems, like Netgear’s Orbi system, you may have four on each device. This could be a limitation for someone that wanted to connect some servers or other network devices that don’t support WiFi. As I said earlier, however, those would really be the most powerful of the power users and shouldn’t be much of an issue for a normal user unless they have a lot of really old equipment. Obviously your internet connection needs to be fast to support fast internet speeds. But if you have a number of high-data transferring devices within your home this system will also allow you to take advantage of the high in-house network bandwidth for faster communication between those devices. For example, if you have a whole-home DVR system where you view content from one device on the others this will allow much faster device-to-device connectivity within your home and prevent data buffering and other unpleasant situations like that. Part of the reason for this is the router and satellite uses a dedicated backhaul connection so regardless of how you are using it, the data sent back and forth from the satellite to the router will not have to compete for bandwidth with everything else because they are the only things using that connection. This ensures that devices that are connected to the satellite will have great speed to and from the router. I can say this seems to do a great job inside my house! One other thing I really like with my other Netgear routers is that you can use Amazon Alexa smart devices for some control, like turning on and off the guest network. Although I don’t see this as compatible on their website or in their documentation I was still able to turn on my guest network with Alexa. To me this is a huge plus because I don’t like leaving my guest network on but I also don’t like having to share my main password or logging into an app every time someone comes over. Using a smart speaker to perform the task really makes it easy to protect the main network and turn the guest network on and off as needed. Another thing I missed in their spec sheets and just noticed on the interface is that this system has an option for WPA3 security, which should make this router much more safe from hackers and more future-proof overall. WPA3 is an updated and more secure version of the Wi-Fi Protected Access protocol WPA2. This has been the default way to secure wireless networks for years but has some known shortcomings. Having support in this system should mean you can start taking advantage of it as soon as your devices do. In conclusion, I will say I have already recommended this system to several of my friends and think it is a great system with a great price for all these great features. There are very few people I know that won’t see an immediate boost in their WiFi performance and if you are looking to purchase a mesh system this one can’t be beat. Although I was provided this product for free to test the system and write this review, the content of the review is my honest and unbiased opinion.

      Hi Poor,

If you had been advised of a service fee on your MK62 it would be for an added service. NETGEAR Armor provides multi-layered cybersecurity on your smartphones, computers, smart TVs, security cameras, and anything else connected in your home. If you choose not to use the service you can disable it in the nighthawk app.

    Netgear Nighthawk Mesh WiFi6

I heard about the mesh systems for a while. I had researched them, both online and by getting recommendations from friends, coworkers, and store techs. Prior to this, I was using an ISP provided modem/router with an extender and it was not great. So, the moment it failed I was ready. I did a quick search, found a local store that had both a router and modem I wanted, purchased the items, and was up and running within a couple of hours. The setup I now have is an Arris SB8200 DOCSYS3.1 modem and the Netgear Nighthawk Mesh WiFi6 router with one extender. While the old system had decent coverage, the signal and down/upload speeds diminished noticeably within Bluetooth like range (20-30ft), especially on the 5ghz band. With the new mesh system, the signal is strong throughout the house and the transfer rates are consistently better. Oh, I forgot to mention how so very easy it is to setup. I downloaded the app and in about 10 minutes (mostly waiting for boot ups and reboots) I was online. My cameras had no problem connecting and the signal strength to them increased from about 85% to 97%. Since installing the new setup, I have had no drops, no connection problems, streaming is much more stable, and I can surf or stream anywhere in the house! A great mesh system at a great price from a great company.
