Because if it is, this product wouldn't be getting ANY starts from me. Let me start out by saying that my parent's house is the hangout spot and between them, myself, my sister and 3 kids and my grandparents who are living there as well, we all share 30+ devices that connect to the internet to stream music, Neflix, videos games, you name it. So quite naturally we have a pretty congested network and it's also hard to get a strong steady signal in the basement to ensure those further away devices can still stream without interruptions. So after doing some research I found that a WiFi mesh system should (in theory) solve all of the issues I've just described so that everyone is happy with their connected devices. So after doing some research and asking the sales associates at my local Best Buy for recommended mesh systems, I decided to choose the Nighthawk AX3600 and man was I on my for a rude awakening. Once I got home, I proceeded to open up the box and hook up the router module to my modem. Easy breezy, lemon peasy. Next I walk down to the main floor to setup the first satellite module and this is when I first started getting issues. At first the Netgear App wasn't able to detect the satellite even though it was less than 20 ft away from the router. But at this point I gave it the benefit of the doubt and just power cycled and re-positioned the satellite to ensure the router can find it and it eventually did.....15 minutes later. Now here's where things get a bit spicy. I then walk downstairs to the basement to place the 2nd satellite in a spot where I thought would have the least amount of interference to ensure a good connection through and through. So I proceed to setup the module and 15 minutes of searching...no dice. Ok cool, maybe I didn't have it in the most optimal location, let me move it somewhere else. Module is moved, and now I'm scanning so the router can find it....15 minutes later "404: Satellite Not Found". At this point I'm scratching my head and asking myself what am I doing wrong?? So I read "Help" section and came across a note that detailed what the status indicator colors meant. Currently the satellite's status indicator is solid blue which means that "The mode has a good connection and is behaving normally". But on the Netgear app, it says that it can't find the satellite. Hmmm...someone is lying. Nevertheless, I, decided to trust the status indicator light and bypass the false negative the app was telling me. After an hour and a half of fumbling with the satellites, it's now time to setup the router...so after about 10 minutes of searching for the router I went through several setup screens and every time I'd get to the last step, the app would freeze and I'd had to exit the setup and start all over again! This happed at least 5 times and each time it took 20 minutes just to get to the same spot it hung the last time. Eventually I was able to get the router setup and I thought I was finally in the Promised Land...WRONG! About 5 minutes after getting everything setup, all the sudden all of our connected devices lose internet connection. Then five minutes later, everything would be connected again, 10 minutes later, connection dropped. It was like this all night and would never keep a steady connection no matter where we were in the house. At this point I'm fed up with this $400 paper wight so I return to Best Buy the next day. The cashier joked about us about getting the Over Priced, Under Performing, Clunky Netgear system instead of the EERO WiFi Mesh system. He eventually talked us into getting the EERO pro and MAN! What a night and day difference! The EERO was very sleek in design and felt premium and setup was a BREEZE! From start to finish, it literally took 10 minutes. All of my satellites have a strong connection and the internet/connection has not dropped at all! Do yourself a favor and spend the extra coin on the EERO WiFi mesh system so you can have stability and peace of mind...something you definitely won't find with the AX3600.

Do not buy. The satellites are constantly disconnected and the only way to get back online is to reset the system which then. Takes about an hour for everything to come back online. Extremely disappointed at how much this system sucks. I spent the extra money thinking I was going to get good quality but I guess I’m crap out of luck. Please do not buy. It is the worst system I’ve had and of course I cannot take it back. Don’t be deceived by it’s cool looks.

Truly disappointed with this system. The RAM continuously overutilizes itself requiring 1-2 restarts daily; range is decent.

The previous set was a cable modem router from our internet provider. It worked for a while but as more smart home devices were added it got hot and slowed down. It got to the point that it would kick my devices off the internet. The Netgear nighthawk mesh system improved our speed and made it easy to hop on the internet. It was easy to set up and the internet signal around has improved. Also, I like being back in control of my internet and how it runs.

Worked okay. …for a year. Then it died!

I set up my house which is just under 2000 sq feet w this router and 3 satellites. The router lives at the end if the house by the modem. I set up one in the middle of the house and one at the end of the house and the last upstairs. At first everything was great but after a few months i started getting dropped calls and poor quality calls on my video meetings and my kids were getting slow internet and lag on their internet games up-stairs. In testing the best internet i could get on the satellites was 300 or so mbps. Far cry from the 800-900 i get at the router. But still, this shouldn’t being causing poor call quality on video meetings or lag for internet games. The issue seemed to be dropped packets or incosistant bandwidth. (Although the router doesnt provide any useful logging to track this.). I ended up buying two more satellites and put one in each kids room and one in my office. We all plugged directly into these satellite and that improced performance to an acceptable level. But just over 1 year after buying the first pack, the whole system just shut down and stopped working . After restarting the router it is connecting to devices wirelessly but none of the satellites will connect. My guess is tjat the back haul network tjat connecta the satellites died. I soent about 6 hours re-starting and resetting the system to factory, it no longer works! I have no choice but to run out and buy a new system today. I would highly recommend against buying this netgear nighthawk mesh system. It all felt cheaply made when i opened them up and it only worked “okay”. Ownit is dead. Giving it two stars instead of one as it worked “okay” for a year.

    Buyer beware. Not stable wifi

    Posted .

Great when it works. Sadly it has become more unstable and disconnects wifi throughout the day. I have been waiting for new firmware, but unfortunately that is probably not going to happened. Wired connections are fine and my older Wifi-5 (ac) routers (which I still have and tested again do not have these issue. I'm sadly going to have to eat the money I spent on this very unreliable mesh system. I have the MR60 with two MS60s. The satellites are connected by ethernet so not a backhaul issue. Frequent disconnects no matter which AP anyone is connected to. Very unreliable and I guess I have to wait until Wifi-6e comes before I buy into new stuff and not from Netgear.

HORRIBLE! I bought these for my 2400sqft ranch house, the signal drops off by the front door and backyard, additionally for whatever reason, despite working with an AT&T tech and Netgear for over an hour each, neither could get this to play nice with my fiber gateway and my wifi speeds became capped at ~95mbs. Tried updating the firmware and messing around in the both the app and the web interface, but no luck.

Do not buy this router. I purchased it from Best Buy and could not get the satellites to sync. I spoke to Netgear support for an hour and they finally said that there was a hardware problem. I exchanged it for another one at Best Buy and it also has the same problem. Not worth the headache, not to mention a loss of 5 hours of my time.

As a very recent former Best Buy employee, I like to think i have a leg up on comparing items as I buy alot from best buy as well. I bought these about a month ago and i would strongly advise AGAINST purchasing this mesh network. I bought it as Netgear usually has good products but this product was a complete waste of $500. Gaming and streaming are completely out of the question when multiple devices are in use. In addition, setup was quite the hassle. All of my devices in the entire house had to be reset. I “upgraded” from my dual band eeros which I really didnt have a problem with, i was just looking for more speed. I will be going with a little more money for the tri band eeros as its just far superior. I hope Netgear fixes this issue because its def not worth the money in its current state.
