Let me start by saying that this router to be fairly new doesn't have that many glitches, it does take about 10 minutes to set it up but its worthy.

Setup wasn't flawless and it's way too easy to accidentally turn off the WiFi if you hit the button on the top of the router after connecting devices to it. Once setup is complete and it's running, though, the router is extremely responsive and we get much better connections and faster speeds on Pixel 3, iPhone, Surface Book 2, iPad and other devices.

First off I love the app , downloaded to phone and all set. I have a lot of wireless devices and it found them all. Have pushed it hard for a few days now. We have wireless TV , cameras , over 15 wireless devices in our house. We are up and running fast. Kids are streaming and playing PUBG and my TV didn't skip a beat. Works good really have enjoyed the nighthawk product line. The price is right , not a ton of money for a fast router to run all the devices in your house.

Set up was a nightmare and even after it was up and running, connection was spotty. Can't have that working from home. But it did have great range and speed the times it did work.

I have been using the Netgear Nighthawk RAX40 for a couple of days now and I absolutely love the coverage and speed performance it has given me over my old Nighthawk R7000. Netgear's RAX40 is designed to cover medium to large homes and it is capable of penetrating walls without breaking a sweat. The RAX40 sports an attractive design that really stands out when you first look at it. The setup process is really easy thanks to the Nighthawk App which you can download from Google Play store. The signal strength is much better than what I was getting with my Nighthawk R7000 and the latency has improved quite a bit too. I have more than 12 devices connected at all times to my router in my house and this router easily handles all of them. I have four laptops, three smartphones, two gaming desktops, two printers, and one NAS which I use to stream movies. With my R7000, I was getting around 130Mbps (download) and with the RAX40 I now get over 200Mbps (download). Pros + Attractive design + Fast speeds + Easy Setup + Affordable + Great Coverage Cons - Requires 802.11ax devices to take advantage - Not many devices available that support 802.11ax Overall, I am very happy with the RAX40 because it has eliminated all the dead WiFi spots in my house and it has also allowed me to get coverage in my patio and garage which I wasn't able to before with the Nighthawk R7000. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who is looking for the an affordable 802.11ax WiFi router. The RAX40 will provide you fast speeds but only if you have a device that supports the new 802.11ax standard. The RAX40 is overkill for most people and it will certainly future proof you for a long time. The RAX40 will provide you will much more consistent download speds and the WiFi will be more reliable. I received this product from Netgear as part of a test and review program.

Regularly drops connections - Not recommended

The AX4 regularly loses connections with all devices, even wired ones (intervals spanned a few hours to a couple of days). I spent over three hours on the phone with Netgear tech support and, in the end, decided to exchange the router for a different model. Required a 10-minute power cycle every time it booted devices. The speed was great when it worked, but I don't consider this a functional model until Netgear fixes the connections loss issue.

I've only had this router for about a week but so far it's great. I really like the Nighthawk app. It makes set up really easy, makes monitoring your network easy (like who's connected and what your speeds are). The range seems great too, I get a pretty decent signal even out in my backyard.

I had recently increased my internet plan that has speeds up to 100 mb and I thought my old router was doing a fine job then one day without reason my old router took a dump and stopped working. I relied on the salesman to guide me on my purchase and we agreed this would be perfect and perfect it was! I now have a much larger WiFi area of coverage and the speed on each device is significantly noticeable. I highly recommend it!

Super easy Nighthawk App set up. So far router is way better than expected. Super fast had 4 simultaneous 4k feeds going with zero buffering. Best bang for the buck!

First off I'm a big Netgear fan and am currently usIng a Netgear Orbi system which has been great from the get-go. Very fast, great coverage, no reboots, it just works. The AX4 on the other hand is a complete dog. Setup was difficult at best, very buggy, wouldn't connect to internet or complete setup without multiple tries to finally finish. When I finally got it up and running, made a few minor changes and updated the firmware it worked OK but did experience wild inconsistency in signal strength all over and very poor range. I did test it with a Samsung S10 which does have an AX WiFi modem and while it was very fast in the same room as the router if you moved more than 20 ft. away the signal would drop off noticeably. AC clients were also slow and unreliable. Then the AX4 died after 12 hours. No led lights, won't reset, won't power on at all. It's going back today and until Netgear gets it together with this router I would advise to stay far away from any purchase.

Been using NETGEAR Routers for as long as I have had the internet. In fact I have never used any other brand. NETGEAR is always dependable and delivers speeds as advertised. The RAX40 really blew me away when I did a speed test. I actually was .76 Mbps download faster than the max my ISP gives me. I highly recommend.

Great Option for the Newest Wifi Specs

While not without its flaws, this is the most cost efficient way to get into the newest AX/WiFi 6 in a router on the market today. Here are some pros and cons. Pro + Sleek look will really stand out when you want it to but can also easily hide in the background due to its black finish. + Fast speeds! This thing can pump out some serious bandwidth to your devices due to the newest technologies. + Set it up and forget it. Once you get it set up, it should consistently work great for you without having to futz with it all the time. The best technology works with you and for you, and this is a great example. + Cheaper than other AX/6 options. Don't overpay for the new technology. Cons - Expensive (even if cheaper than other options). You can certainly find cheaper routers if you don't need the specific features of this model. - Setup can be labor intensive; it's not plug and play. - Not many end devices (phones, computers, etc.) even support AX/6, so it may be overkill right now. So, overall I think this is a great router that will get you blazing fast speeds and will future proof you for quite a while. It may be overkill for some so take that into consideration, but if you're excited about the features in this thing don't hesitate. I received this product to review as part of NETGEAR's First Look Review Program, but the opinions expressed in the review are solely mine.

Let's start with my Spectrum router is better than this router. I was looking for a replacement router, something stable and able to connect to multiple wifi devices, this was not it. While advertised to support up to 16 devices per channel after connecting 12 on the 2.4Ghz channel and 7 on the 5Ghz the router could not handle the traffic, constantly freezing, something as simple as streaming a YouTube video will require multiple buffering on 5G (never happened to me with the Spectrum router), from a TV next to the router! The speed was constantly changing without moving from the same place, one minute you are getting 600 Mbps next minute you are on 45 Mbps. XboxOne lost connection to the servers several times while my son was playing, again never happened to me while using the spectrum router The Nighthawk app is a nightmare, horrible, constantly freezing or thinking and never returning a result. Setting up the router took longer than expected because of the latency and lag from the Nighthawk app. I had to reset the router twice because it would not let me login into the router setup using the correct username and password. I returned this really bad router and got a google mesh router (3 pack), all my problems gone! setup took 5 min, all devices connected, no drops in the line, really good constant speed all over the house (3300 sq ft @@@@@@@

    Good Router for the price

I'll start with what I feel is good about the router. Superficially is looks good and compared to the RAX80 I feel like the indicator lights are in a better place to be seen. The auto channel selection picked a good spot where there was less interference from my neighbors and I've had issues with other routers in the past where this was a problem. Netgear's Readyshare is nice and I was able to plug in my hard drive without issue and it was immediately available. The speeds I tested were correct in 5 Ghz band but was about 2/3s the speed in the 2.4Ghz band. Without some additional research I'm not sure if that's normal or not. The guest network works and was easy to set up and the Wi-Fi password can be shared with a text (or other chat app) or QR code. The website is chock full of settings like OpenVPN, port forwarding, and the aforementioned Ready share settings. The signal strength is very good, a little better than the Google mesh I also have. Overall the good bits are good but here's some issues I find, especially when comparing it to the Google mesh network I've. The nighthawk app needs some work compared to something like Google's WiFi app. I had issues getting speed test to work and even connecting at the beginning seemed like a problem trying to disconnect from an old nighthawk that was set up. The app lacks port forwarding and doesn't feel as 'clean' as I would hope. It's hard to qualify the feeling but I prefer the flow of the Google app. The router doesn't do 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on the same SSID which would be nice given the Google mesh I've does that. It has NetgearXX and NetgearXX-5g. Aside from these issues in my home I think if you are in the market for something with a lot of customization this could be the product for you. If you need basic stuff without a lot of advanced customization then maybe something else works, unless this is in your price point then you can just ignore the advanced options. The device doesn't do a mesh (that's Orbi) so my home floorplan works against it. Hopefully Netgear looks into the Nighthawk app and does some upgrading there and I think the overall experience would improve. I was provided this router by Netgear as part of the First Look Review Program but all positives and criticisms are my own.

Have had this router for about 4 days. As someone else mentioned, the set up isn't flawless. At first, it seems as if you have easily set up the router using the app, but low and behold, you need to reboot here, configure there. After a bit of confusing time, I managed to get the wifi active and working. Now the fun part. With the wifi working, it started to drop, and the speed no where near matched my older TP Link. I have 100 MPS with Cox, and was getting between 10- 25 MPS with this router. After calling COX to confirm my modem was active and not loosing connection, I determined it must be the router . Long story short, I had to login to the Netgear Admin login on a PC and change the IP from static to dynamic. I think the router was renewing the IP and causing the connection loss. Also, I enabled QOS. Odd that it'sn't set by default. Overall, now that the router is stable, the coverage is crazy good, much better than my TP Link, and even Google WiFi. I can be out at my sidewalk and get WiFi great. The speed is pretty solid. I'm averaging about 120mps. Again, I only have a 100 MPS with Cox. Would I recommend the router? Nah, there's probably better, easier routers for less. The router physically feels cheap, and low budget. The Nighthawk app sucks, 80% of the time it can't connect. Also, the app doesn't let you do advance features so you have to use the desktop.
