Power Cycling Issues

Awesome router with great range and speed when working, but would randomly power cycle and drop connections. Had to return it because didn’t want to deal with the issue after warranty ran out. After various reads online, seems this unit has been called out multiple times for this particular issue, with no resolution by Netgear to date.
If you decide to repurchase the router or any other NETGEAR product and have any issues, NETGEAR Support will be happy to help you. A bit pricey, but very configurable. I have had three Netgear routers in a row. Still evaluating this one for long-term durability. My first one was rock-solid and still is, but I needed more speed for streaming.
The second one (7500v2) was good for about two years, but seemed to suffer from an overheating issue after that time. It started conking out after about thirty minutes after every cold restart.
So far this one does not seem to have any over-heating issues and is solid, but will know after a year or two. But y then technology will likely change again.

I've now own four high end Netgear routers over the past 9 years. Almost each one has made the last look like a kids toy. The range of this unit is great. If your device supports the full WIFI 6 speed you're in for a treat. My Samsung S20 Ultra connects at 1.2 gbps from 10ft-20ft away from the unit, There is a steep drop off the further for get away. Updates seem to come fair often and each one improves on the other. The design is just different enough to get it center stage on my network shelf. It's expensive for sure, but if you need internal network speed, this is the router for you.

I've had this router now for just about a full year so I finally feel comfortable enough to review it. I have many Nest cameras, WeMo light switches, and a full security system as well as my irrigation system and motorized blinds on my home network not to mention several phones, laptops, iPads, etc. My previous router was not able to keep all of those products supported and I had to reset it remotely at least a couple of times per week and I'd have to do a hard reset by turning off or unplugging it at least once per week; so I purchased this to fix that problem. This router has been absolutely exceptional. It was easy to setup and after about a full year of use, I've not had to reset it even once! It handles 6 Nest cameras without any problems and when I go to anything, from my irrigation system, light switches, motorized blinds, or any other connected device, everything works without any lag whether I'm at home or using my cellular service. If you have a connected home with many different connected devices, get this router, you won't be disappointed.

First time purchasing a NightHawk product and this is by far a good investment!!
Easy to set up. Just download the app follow the easy instruction and your up and running in minutes!!
App features are a plus as well but when it comes down to the performance. You won’t be disappointed. I was getting around 200mb with my old router and now up easily hitting 450mb after making the swap. Truly a great product.

Good upgrage from my Nighthawk X10, but...

I had a Nighthawk X10 for about a year before it flaked out and I picked up this X12 router. I've had about a month now and I must say it was a good upgrade with some on going limited features that plague all Nighthawk routers.
The router looks sharp but would look better with some LEDs on the antennas. It looks like a Star Wars ship that should be flying around my office shooting down X-Wings.
I actually have seen an increase in my internet speed over my wired network which makes no sense, but I'll never complain about speed increases. The router seems to handle my 25+ devices, wired and wirless without sweating. My network has always maxed out at 110mps transfer speeds over wired ethernet and this router pegs the meter without a hiccup during large file transfers to my server. The other day I started a video and jumped in the car to go to town and it didn't switch to LTE untill I was about 4 houses down the street. I haven't done any legit distance testing, but this instance has me intrigued.
Now here comes my issuse with all Nighthaw routers, the interface. For this router in particular it's a $400 router and my old 200 ASUS router had loads more control and options. I could see exactly how much traffic each individual devise was using, set up and download speed limits, along with loads more options. It's just simply too basic for a powerhouse $400 router. I could list many more missing features, but I don't want to write all night. Netgear wake up! It's been several years of massive complaints about your simple and limited interface. Do you ever plan on fixing it? Do you just not want to put any of your billions of dollars on some coders? Same complaints from every user that knows how to use devices to their fullest, but yet you do nothing.... maybe I should switch back to ASUS.
I choose to pick I would recommend it to friends with a very stern warning to not expect ANY advanced features out of this router or any other Nighthawk routers. They do work for the most part and thats about it.

The new Nighthawk AX12 has good range. From second floor of house with one wall to outside on one side and at least two or more in other directions it reaches a good 50 yards + in all directions in the 5G networks and 100 yards on the 2.4G networks. Support for this unit is only 90 days and not the best. However the settings are pretty much straight forward. I attached a 8TB usb to it and that seems to be working OK but trying to set the password protection has not seem to be working and again Netgear support is lacking.
I have only felt the need to reset the router once in the month of use.
As to in house and wireless speeds (I only use wireless) paying for 250MBS and on AC network cards getting around 70MBS on general average at about 30 feet down a floor and thru a few walls on the 2.4G and on the 5G 250MBS on average.
One thing I have seen with this Nighthawk as compared to my old R8000 is the speed test for this one does only upload speed and does not do download. I still need to speak again with Netgear support to ask about this, the password problem with the USB for Cloud Share and Alexa not working with this router. I had none of the problems when using the R8000 (AC3200) nighthawk.
As to the Ax band, I have not added any equipment using it.
If I am able to add or edit this review after hopefully finding the answers to the three problems, I will try to do so.

This is the best router for the money currently on the market. Performance is phenomenal. Coverage is incredible. No dead spots. I get gig speeds through my ISP as advertised.
If you want true gig speed performance I Highly recommend this device. (*must be paired with docis 3.1 modem to achieve gig speed performance )

Random Reboots
|
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This device is rebooting randomly on its own; otherwise, during operation this device works as advertised. Immediately prior to the installation of this RAX120v2, I had for 6 years a Nighthawk R8000 which never rebooted on its own; hence, the setup and location (prior to current) is exactly the same with of-course the exception of the upgraded router to a Rax120v2. Netgear support tried the obvious things in their problem determination. Plug the router directly into a wall outlet eliminating an extension cord, they reinstalled the latest firmware V1.2.3.28, and when the problem of random rebooting continued, they had me perform a factory reset. None of the aforementioned corrected the problem which could occur in my case, once every 3-4 days or 2-3 times in a single day. Seemingly the only constant with the reboots, is a variable when considering current conditions, and elapsed time in-between the random reboots. Unfortunately when I inquired with Netgear Support, they informed me that this device does not log error codes, nor can any traces or traps be implemented which is surprising to me. This leaves open the question for all, (clients, and Tech Support) of determining what the root cause of this random rebooting of the RAX120v2 is. My exchange for the same device has been requested and approved by Netgear and Bestbuy Tech support (whom have been outstanding and very through in their problem determination) and if the exchange solves the problem one could assume a hardware problem, and should it reoccur, it's likely an unidentified logical problem and I'll need to select a different model. Posted on the Netgear community forum is this same rebooting problem on this device that I've realized with the matching device model and matching installed firmware release number.

I think this RAX120 is a better deal than the RAX200 right now. The RAX120 has a 5gbps ethernet port instead of 2.5, and a faster CPU. The RAX200 is tri-band instead of dual-band, and if configured correctly can offer higher speeds to WiFi 6 client devices. All in all, I'd say the RAX120 is worth saving $100.
It's definitely faster (for WiFi 6 devices) and produces a noticeably stronger signal than the RAX80.
The one downside is that as with the RAX80, you may have to toggle QoS off and on or on and then off to get the WiFi connection speeds up to where they should be, and you may have to do this again after firmware updates. Consider yourself warned.
If you have another router set up in AP mode (what I'm doing with my old RAX80) with this as the main, the hand-off between the two routers is not exactly seamless (sometimes you'll have to wait a few seconds for your device to connect to the other router), but these routers aren't really designed to function as mech routers, so that is to be expected.
Other than that, stability and speed have been stellar.

I have owned many routers in the last 25 years . The quick setup of this one beats anything I have had in the past. It’s range of coverage and throughput speed is unmatched . I would recommend this router to anyone who wants to get the full benefit of gigabit speed directly to their wireless units inside their home.

First of all, super simple to set up and install. Basically just install the app on my phone and it did the rest. After that its been insanely fast. It reaches my entire house and I have reliable internet 20-30 feet onto my yard in the front and back (which is partly why I wanted this unit).

I always use Netgear products. The Nighthawk AX12 12-Stream AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 Router is a little pricey but can handle a lot of devices and IOT on a network without issue.
Its a little pricey buy if you want a router with a decent amount of speed and range, you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely fantastic! Running well over a gig of speed and there isn’t a room that isn’t getting the max WiFi speed that the devices allow. Extremely easy setup and management. I moved recently and in my new place my desktop can't easily be wired to my router. So I bought this router in the hope I could retain wired speeds over WiFi. I also bought an AX adapter for my PC.
After a lot of configuring I got wired speeds over WiFI for my desktop but at a price. That price is my desktop connection will slow down significantly after a few hours and require a network adapter reset.
I have a laptop with 802.11ac that also loses connectivity after a few hours. Wired devices work just fine. Other wifi devices seem to work fine.
Annoyingly, Netgear hasn't updated the firmware since March, which is confusing. I imagine there are lots of bugs to fix.
Overall I wish I didn't buy it. My last ac router was very reliable. I can get faster wifi speeds with this router but with a lot of work.

Tremendous wifi router. I upgraded my internet connection to 500mbps, and my old router could not push it. This router not only covers the entire home with strong wifi signal, but also has no problem pushing that speed to wireless units in the house.
