ighthawk AXE7300 Tri-Band WiFi Router, Model RAXE290, after a week of usage, at glance it is solid and consistent signal through in and out of the house. First some of key technical details: -WiFi Support —2.4 GHz AX: 2x2 (Tx/Rx) 1024/256-QAM 20/40 MHz, up to 600 Mbps —-5 GHz AX: 4x4 (Tx/Rx) 1024/256-QAM 20/40/80/160 MHz, up to 4.8 Gbps —6 GHz AX: 2x2 (Tx/Rx) 1024/256- QAM 20/40/80/160 MHz, up to 1.9 Gbps —Backwards compatible with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi —Supports new WiFi 6E devices on the 6 GHz WiFi band -Security: —WPA2-PSK [AES] —WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] —WPA/WPA2 Enterprise —WPA3-PSK —WPA2-PSK [AES] + WPA3-PSK —Enhanced Open (6 GHz band only) -LAN & WAN —RJ-45 port that supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T -Multi-Gig port 2.5 gps —RJ-45 port that supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T, and 2.5GBASE-T -RF Channel —2.4 GHz: Auto —5 GHz for WW: channel 44 —5 GHz for North America: channel 153 —6 GHz for WW: channel 37 (PSC) —6 GHz for North America: channel 37 (PSC) -Default operating Mode with AX Enabled —2.4 GHz: Up to 600 Mbps —5 GHz: Up to 4804 Mbps —6 GHz: Up to 1922 Mbps -Setting up: The process is same if not similar to rest of consumer oriented routers in the market, except one big difference to remark is the connection of Multi-Gig Port 2.5gps if the internet service is about greater than 1gbps. Once connected respective ports and cable modem, need to download its application, and scan the the QR code from the router to initiate the login and addition of new router to later setup SSID, password and so on. Among many options to configure and personalize, there is Smart Connect to use single SSID/Password for 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz band. -Note on Tri-Band In my usage, I setup separate SSID for each band to observe its coverage and level of bars. From which I was surprised to see how a stable signal was through the house even corners where another brand with mesh network didn’t work well. My notebooks, iPhone, and iPad was detecting the signal consistently 2.5GHz and 5 Ghz, except the 6Ghz. For this last one, the latest iPhone with WiFI6 support doesn’t detect the SSID setup for 6E. -Note on WiFi Range Despite of the router specification of wifi range coverage of 2,500 square foot, it worked relatively well in bigger space considering it was installed in the closet and connection was made after multiple wood made walls and multiple floors that another brand although older model but mesh network did not work well. -Note on App Form its App, it list all the devices connected to the router, It list by type represented via Icon, name of device, brand, and model. These are automatically detected and listed in the category Device Manager. However, it doesn’t allow user to modify the type or the attributes mentioned are not available to use for all of devices detected by the router. Some only has name field only for instance. Then the device manager seems to list duplicated device names. For example, I have installed in the house about 40 connected devices, but the application counts 87. Then some devices that I know it is connected via WiFI, it is listed as connected via Ethernet. The App also provide security feature at the router level as first layer of security. It tells when new device has joined to the network and it is secure. On the other hand, also it tell blocked threads from what device. Bub as is in my case of usage, one of device doesn’t show name hence can’t tell from what device is originally triggered. Then looking upon details of device, if it would include the MAC address, would be bit easier to locate and assess which one represent risk. Then enabling WiFi to Guest, is simple by selection of which band to enable, which all consist of three taps within the application. Regarding the Parental Control, out of box without the Premium service, it allow to select what device to Pause internet. It also give option to install Bitdefender Security. What I feel the router would work differently: —- For Parental Control, out of box, doesn’t have option to schedule Pause and Start per device without paid Premium Service. —- The Security of Armor is another paid service. Although I don’ mean it has to be free, but for what is the cost of the router, it feels bit odd that it need additional spending to safeguard internet usage. —- The need to install Bitdefender in each of connected devices when there is Armor service. Considering there is monitoring at network level from the router, at high-level, it feels duplicate service at device level adding redundancy. —- Unable to use different brand of security software than offered by Netgear. To finish, as hardware and software for network from WiFI range perspective, and from short time of usage, I would say it works superb compared to others I have used. It provide consistent connectivity to each of devices in the network distributed across different location within the house and nearby outside at backyard. Easy to control from the application to enable Guest WiFI, or check on list of connected devices aside of some details as mentioned before. But its required paid subscription for Parental Control and Network monitoring to take full advantage of it, makes to hold a bit before incurring in expensive router as is the Nighthawk AXE 7300 when there is other brand that doesn’t need such condition for same feature at least for Parental Control. Form technical specialist, it still offer variety of options to configure differently from out of box.

This is by far the most comprehensive package of a router that you can get for an average sized home. I normally like to go through a few pros and cons before I end up recommending or not recommending a product, but I can easily say this will fit just about any home networking setup with potential for upgrades. A great router that offers some modest future proofing. I’ve tried out about 4 different wireless routers from 3 different companies over the last year, and this one is almost the easiest to setup. The app does a great job of helping you walk through the setup. It honestly got me most of the way to ready to use, but I ended up logging in to the network from my PC to finish some tweaks. Your average user should have no problem setting up the router using the app, even without previous networking experience. After I made those minor changes, I have been able to control the rest of my networking needs directly from the app. It took a few minutes to get everything up and running, and even though I used the same Wi-Fi name and password as the previous router it took a few minutes for all my devices to successfully connect. I ended up having restart my modem and router a couple of times just to get rid of some issues. Now, the network has been up and running for a little over a week with no issues. Wireless performance is amazing, the 5GHz and 2.4GHz signals are strong. The 5GHz can cover my entire home, and the 2.4GHz signal is able to reach to my security cameras outside. This is achieved without a repeater, just the router sitting in the middle of my home. I’ve had to use repeaters with other routers to achieve the same coverage. Speeds on both networks is great, and I appreciate the added wired connections and USB-C connection for network storage. The 6GHz signal is fast, but currently is only dependable when you are relatively close to the router in the same room it works well but getting beyond the living room the 6GHz signal starts to degrade quickly. Also, only one of my Android phones currently is compatible to connect to the 6GHz signal. At least the router is ready when other devices start adapting to the new network. The last thing that I setup on my networks is the parental controls. I feel that this is something that all routers should have options to adjust and the basic parental controls that come integrated into the Nighthawk are very good, better than most. I used the router for a few days with just the basic, free tier of parental controls and it worked well enough. I decided to try out the premium Parental Controls, the require a membership, but you get a 30-day trial to test out the features to see if it’s worth the upgrade. I ended up buying the annual membership, to us it was worth the added cost to get a few more features and better controls in this department. This is a great router. Amazing signal and performance, great app and setup, and the parental controls that most parents will be grateful for. Our home is about 2,500 square-foot and this router has no problem getting all our devices throughout the house online. The 6GHz is a great feature but limited currently by range and compatible devices. Again, this will be a great feature to already have once more manufacturers adopt this technology. This is an easy recommendation.

I have used a couple of gigabit Wi-Fi routers in the past, and this Nighthawk AXE7300 has super speed, tremendous bandwidth, and great range. It works well on both LAN and Wi-Fi. Nowadays, most homes should have a Wi-Fi 6 internet, which supports 2.4 GHz and 5GHz, and this Nighthawk AXE7300 Wi-Fi 6E does better support. With 6E, this device gets you a future-proof band connection. My first attempt setup with the app was a bit of a channel, and I got no internet. I redid everything again on the Nighthawk app, and I was able to get a successful connection. After this setup, it has been working flawlessly. My teenage son, an extreme gamer, notices that there are no drops, and his gaming is fast. Also, while he plays everyone else can stream with out interruptions. The additional service with this router is the Netgear Armor and Netgear Smart Parental Controls; you get a one-year subscription with the first one. Overall, this router is easy to set up and provides fast speed to any device.

The Best Non-Mesh Router I’ve Ever Used

Ive used many routers over the years. Many have been both great and terrible. But ever since about 8 years ago when mesh router setups really started to take off stand alone routers have really fallen by the wayside. It pretty much became if it wasnt a one floor house with the router in the center you needed a mesh system to get the best coverage. There was a great black friday sale this year and this high end router was on sale and I decided to pull the trigger. It was well worth it! The rang on thai thing is unreal! Im in the front of my house in my drive way a ways from the router and still get great signal. Theres not a weak spot or deadzone in my house at all. Everywhwre in my two story house is full coverage. The set up was uock and easy. The speeds are great. And the royter just plan looks cool. Like a ship out of star wars. If theres a great sale i highly recommend it!

This router looks like it flew into my home and is something from the future. The Netgear Nighthawk AXE7300 model RAXE290, is a Tri-Band WiFi Router with clean looks and a solid WiFi signal. You’ll be getting 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, and 6Ghz bands to run all your devices. My home is approximately 2400 square feet and 2 stories tall. Overall the signal has been dispersed throughout the house without noticing any speed drop offs. The thing that sets this Netgear Nighthawk apart from my previous router is it's WiFi 6E, which is new to me. Fortunately for me I have a newer laptop that has the ability to recognize the 6Ghz frequency. The connection on that laptop has been fast and reliable no matter where I move about the house. Right out of the box this router is simple to get up and running. Simply fold up the "wings" which house the six antennas. Download the Netgear app and use that in conjunction with the router. The app does a good job at making the setup process easy and painless. Internally there is a 1.7 Ghz quad core processor that handles all the traffic and doesn't seem to get bogged down. There are a total of five 10/100/1000Mbps gigabit ethernet ports, plus one 2.5G/1Gbps Multi Gig Port. There is also a USB 3.0 port Type-C for network storage. Another nice feature is the 1 year of Netgear Armor All in one security. For some additional peace of mind this helps to ensure that my household data. The ability to run 8 streams for speed and coverage makes this an ideal unit for a home or business that needs reliable WiFi at all times. This can support up to 40 devices and hopefully keep all the devices going strong. Well worth the investment for my home needs of working from home, streaming, gaming, shopping. PRO: Design and looks Reliable WiFi signal Newer WiFi 6E frequency Helpful app

I guess it depends on how you wish to use this. I wanted to use my Firewalla as a router, but discovered you lose ALL security features when you disable router mode. Also lost the ability to split off the guest network. Not good. If it's going to be the only router/wifi access point, it's fine. That said, I have some real concerns with the use of power though. This access point is extremely powerful, but not a good neighbor at all. It not only appears to run at full power, but it also uses a very wide band to broadcast. That can cause major conflicts with other wifi devices attempting to operate in the same general area. If you and two of your neighbors all had the same device, someone's router will have a tough time finding an open channel. Actually surprised to learn this, but I discovered it accidentally scanning for available channels when I was having issues with my Unifi wifi access points jumping around, switching frequencies constantly. There's no need for this type of power unless you're out in the open country and trying to broadcast over a larger area, maybe an adjacent barn, etc. I had to hunt down my neighbor and help them power down their router and be good neighbors. Running at high power isn't only a concern for being good neighbor, but you don't want to be sitting near the unit for long either. Also, with more power, you'd normally expect better and faster connections, but the stream is actually far more error prone. The extra power is more a marketing thing to get good reviews on range than being responsible, so pretty disappointed in this implementation. Also, Netgear support is nopthing more than parrots. Very tough to get any real information outside of the canned responces.

This router provides good coverage for my home, The speed and through put is good with 15+ devices connected to it. It would be nice thought if it had a feature to reboot it at a specific time of day every day to assure it is operating at the top speed that my internet provider is providing.

Ngl i was skeptical on getting a netgear since ive been with asus router for a while now. I have the asus ax82u i believe and its fantastic but very recently the download speeds are struggling and the upload is aswell. Upgraded to this router and its hitting the numbers for sure. I did return this router cause idk about that pay for security thing and cause i want to try another asus router the gt 16000. If that beefy router does the same thing this asus router i have then im switching to netgear and not looking back. I have 1 gig down and 105 upload but its a new upload they working on so i have 60. I switched back to my asus before returning my netgear today and it was hitting the numbers before i left but now im back at the asus issue i had. I will test the new router when it comes and if its bad then netgear is the way

Internet using the local cable company provided router was never very fast and for years I pondered if it was in fact the router. Turns out that it most definitely WAS their router. My internet is so much faster. If you are having issues where the Internet stalls for a few seconds often and requiring you to press go again, do restarts, call your ISP, or etc., I can assure you it's the router. The purchase was so worth it.
