Phone, internet and Wi-Fi working without having to call customer service!!!! Entire setup done online which is very impressive. Absolutely the easiest setup process I've ever experienced. Performance upgrade is noticeable compared to rental. Very happy with this purchase.

I wanted to avoid paying the monthly $10.00 for the Comcast Router, and unfortunately, Comcast wouldn't let me return the old router because I had phone service. When I saw this router, I thought this would be a great solution. Upon install, the item worked great initially! Fast speeds, all my wireless items (Nest/Tivo/Apple TV/Sonos) worked perfectly. However, after a few weeks, I started noticing that my office phone, hooked up over VoIP to my house would lose the connection, then the Nests dropped their connection, and I kept getting a Red dot on the my xfinity app saying that my modem was not connected. This was frustrating since my wife works from home, and needs to be able to wirelessly connect her laptop as well as our phone due to no wired cable connections. Our home was built before homes had ethernet ports, so we're mostly WiFi. It got to the point that I have reset the modem to factory multiple times, and the good news is I'm a pro at setting up the admin and apply my own wifi name and password, although it stinks having to do this 3-4 times in a one month period. I spent a good 1.5 hours with Comcast about the multiple issues and having to reset this router several times. Initially, Comcast thought it was something to do with my address, or the router not being found on my account. Personally, because this is such a new product, I suspect that there must be a firmware update that hasn't rolled out. The problem is I bought this new, and it only has 90 days of support from Netgear, even though it has a 1 year warranty. My 90 days will end aroud the 9th or the 15th. I ordered it on the 9th, and it arrived on May 15th, so I'm not sure how they calculate the 90 days. If you read forums online, you'll see that this router has had MANY reported issues. I only know this... I went back to Comcast 3 days ago, picked up a wireless modem from them, and everything has worked perfectly since I activated the new modem. Not once have I lost the signal in my house, nor have I had any wireless problems with our phones, or our internet since putting the Comcast modem/router back in place. I want to save the $10.00 a month box rental, and especially after paying $260.00 for this modem, and now an hour support with Netgear, I'm hoping they will either RMA this unit and send me another, or possibly help me figure out why this isn't working.

I absolutely love this device. I no longer need my wifi extender! Please do yourself a favor and replace the Xfinity cable modem and don't look back. This might be a little pricy but its worth it. PLUS, it has phone support if having a regular telephone is important to you. Setup was simple and you can install an app on your phone for easy configuration. Need a guess network or need to change your SSID, or wifi password? Its easy with the app. Do yourself a favor and get this product.

Bought to replace a defective puma6 modem

I bought this after having major problems with a puma6 modem router. This unit works so much better than that other brand. It provides great speeds on my Xfinity plan. I even hooked up the phone for emergencies. The unit software allows me to disable devices for quiet time or for when the kids are grounded.

Many hours of effort including remote access with NETGEAR support. Netgear claims that they can support all your devices for a fee of course and they peddle that at the get go. I finally gave up on TIVO which has become a Dinosaur and has equally bad support . I will also think twice before I buy another Netgear product.

    False Advertising

Im sure this is a great router. it is a part of the nighthawk line and I own the s8000 switch and the r7000 router so I know the nighthawk series is a great line. HOWEVER the information contained on the website and on the box itself is false. It says it supports up to 986 mbps from xfinity. So I purchased this online and had it delivered. Hooked it up and called xfinity. After 30 minutes of debate back and forth the tech on the line says this modem is only available to work with their extreme 500 package. then he tells me that's no longer available so I would have to get the blast pro at 400/10 speeds instead of the 986/40 I currently have. now either he is wrong (usually the case) or its not going to work for you. Tread lightly. I will say he did tell me I needed docsis 3.1 instead of 3.0. I will be returning this tomorrow. thanks.

They work very hard not to replace a bad product

I started having problems after two months. Let me first say I only use internet for about an hour a day. It would drop my signal, and in the beginning it would come back on right away. As time went on it took longer to come back on, and I was having to reset the unit all the time. Then it got to where resetting it didnt work either. In my job at then end of my day I have to transmit data to the company, if I lose internet during the transmission it causes a lot of problems. I told tech support this with every phone call. I tried to exchange it at Best Buy, but was past the return time limit, so had to Deal with Net gear. I was calling them every day, sometimes twice a day. The had me have my cable company check my lines etc. A further delay. I have been working with Net Gear for 6 weeks. Finally they decided they would send me a different one. I said thank you and waited. Two weeks went by and I still had not received it, so I called them. "we sent you an email, you have to fill out a return request" So I did that. Unless you want to return it to one of their centers, you have to pay to have them send you one and then you return yours. I paid. I got a call from Net Gear a couple of days later, I have to send them proof of purchase, after they receive that they will process my request. I told them I could not wait anymore, internet is mandatory for my job.. I have no choice but to purchase another modem router. I guarantee it will not be a Net Gear product.

    Poor/unstable wifi

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this router before there were any reviews. Owned it for about 30 days. Wifi is jumping all over the place. Never stable. Even on hard wire via Ethernet cable internet speed jumps anywhere from 2mb/s to 210mb/s on xfinity 300 plan. I changed channels, disabled antivirus, reformatted hardrive. Nothing seems to prevent this issue. Once I noticed that iPads and iPhones seems to experience same wifi inconsistencies I knew it was time to return this back. I exchanged it for arris svg2482ac and so far had not experienced any issues. On wifi on my PC I am getting stable 280 mb/s. Tested on few steam games. No issues. Not sure why Netgear released such an unfinished product, but I would definitely stay away from it.

    Scared to open it

Just bought this and I'm almost afraid to open the box. VERY mixed reviews. So many bad reviews on Amazon, they took the product off their site! I gave it 3 stars because I had to put something. But it seems like the only way to get help setting it up correctly is to post a bad review in order to get Netgear to reach out and 'make it right'. So here's my preemptive plea for you to reach out to me before I just take it back. WAY too expensive to take a gamble...

I bought this Netgear Nighthawk because it supported voice. It doesn't come with a battery. If the powers out and it does a lot, no phone. Netgear has no idea what battery it takes. No one else has a clue not even Comcast when this modem was created to be used with their service. A total waste of money. I would buy a battery but no one knows when or if it will be available.
