Have had the device a week. I read all the reviews before purchasing and a few were bad, which does happen. Bought it and hooked it all up and had it running in about an hour after connecting all my devices. Between iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, two iMacs, Mac Air laptop, and several wifi enabled cameras I have about 25 devices. The first few days the thing was a beast and handled all the traffic. Granted not all the devices are not on and used at the same time. But it worked great and we even streamed 3 movies from the iMac to the apple tvs while surfing the internet. about 3 days in devices wouldn't connect anymore and would start to prompt me for the password. They would even try to connect to my neighbors house. I reset the router and started over, worked again for a day or so and then all the devices once again started to disconnect. very very disappointing. right now I'm on day seven and I think its time to pack it up and bring it back as it has been two resets and it keeps reverting to dropping my devices and then not letting them reconnect.

Coming from a place where our wireless connectivity would fluctuate from bad to nil, I wanted to make sure we had good wi-fi in our new home. Looking around I settled on the AC3200 and so far I have not been disappointed. We've experienced no connectivity issues, even when multiple computers, gaming consoles, and tablets are using the wi-fi at the same time. The one downside was the initial setup of the router, which is preventing me from giving this 5 stars. It kept having trouble detecting the internet signal from my modem. Restarting the device would let it find the internet, but then it kept treating itself like a second router, wanting the information on the "already existing" router, which was just itself before it was restarted, and I couldn't get to a login screen to make manual modifications to the settings before it got through the automatic setup. After a couple of times restoring default settings, I was able to get it working and now I can log into it as needed to adjust settings or set up things like port forwarding or guest networks. Recommended, with a caveat regarding the initial setup.

When I was putting my home network together, my number one priority was WiFi coverage and quality. After having a long history of poor connectivity due to sub par devices, I was originally going to purchase an Enterprise grade AP to install in the house...but the $1,100 price tag was a no go. Enter the X6. At a price much more in my reach, I figured it was worth a shot. I have this installed inside of a closet, upstairs in my house (roughly 2700 sq ft) and I have perfect coverage everywhere in my house and even outside. The dual band aspect is nice as well since I have devices on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz networks, plus with the built in QoS I don't have any problems with traffic to all of my connected devices. (3 Nest thermostats, 2 laptops, 2 cell phones, 2 Nest Protects, Washer, and Dryer) I have the 300 Mb service from Cox and over the 5G network, I can easily achieve 170Mbps on my phone downstairs.

Well, first off, no 5 stars. Here is my reason, the equipment gives me decent reception all the way to my rear patio, but sometimes it just can't handle the distance. I'm asking a lot from it and what I will suggest is that it be located as high as possible to get the best reception. I have a 2 story home and have it upstairs pointing towards the major part of the house, interior reception is good throughout the house. I'm able to stream in HD anywhere in the house. As soon as I step outside into the patio area the HD will auto adjust and sometimes will lag a bit. I have to say that the home is 3000 sq. ft. and there is plenty of walls between it and the outside. Definitely has made an improvement over the outdated unit it replaces. Features, I like that it has plenty of RJ45 ports and the WiFi is excellent with 3 channels to choose from (two 5g and one 2.4g) It allows for multiple wifi electronics with no bottle necks. The installation/setup was simple, you can customize as much as you want or just use the default settings. So far it has worked flawlessly and my only gripe is the degradation when you go outside.

Noticed my old router couldn't keep up with my lifestyle any longer!!! I had a Linksys EA6900 for 2yrs...very good/reliable router..Highly suggest if on a budget or not looking to spend $$$$$$ I did come across a problem, but it was NOT the fault of the Nighthawk(NetGear)...Took me a day and half to figure it out..After installing the equipment, modem and router running...You have to open the browser and go to a specific link..Well,i couldn't get to the page...And you NEED this particular page to make changes to the router,etc....I called NetGear tech support line and with speaking with the tech,he directly asked me if i used KASPERSKY ANTI VIRUS....I said yes i do..And he made this noise like..OOHHH BOY...that's my problem, the anti virus i was using..So what i did...Paid for different antivirus(norton) and removed Kaspersky totally...With the new anti virus, was able to get to the page NO PROBLEM!!!! So that's my Warning...have that antivirus....go buy linksys...wont have any problems...Otherwise..The NetGear Nighthawk has GREAT performance,Fast, easy to use..GREAT RANGE!!!! If you have the $$$ do it..You will be covered twice as long with the technology in the Nighthawk...Wont regret it!!!!!

It seems these days that you need to replace your router every 3 years, which I do fine frustrating. Either websites are getting more and more data hungry, or the updates we do to our routers, slow them down, just like cell phones. Anyway, this router is huge, but not just its size. The coverage I now have with this bad boy is fantastic! I have a 2 story 2400 square foot home, no issues anywhere, even in my garage which has never been great. So far I have no complaints about the way it performs. My only issue is it's not very user friendly to set up. The included instructions I found some what misleading. It also wouldn't except the passwords that I've used on previous routers of the same make! I had to make up new ones, which it was happy with, and then change them back to my old ones. Very odd, but was able to get there in the end. I do like the ability to turn off all of the LED indicators, making the router much darker at night.

My ASUS router died the other day, so off to BB I went. Wanted a dual band at a minimum which could support several devices and home automation. Looked for "easy" setup, maybe app enabled also. Settled on the Blackhawk for what appeared to be a great deal (got 15% off for trading in non-working ASUS also). Got the Blackhawk home and set-up. I have 2 kids that I monitor and set there hours they can access the web (kids today need to get away from screens). So I find out that during the set-up of this Blackhawk, I can't access the parental controls in order to limit certain device's access times, I can only blanket everything. In order to have access to these "advanced" features, you have to pay Disney Circle $5 a month!! Seriously?? I just spent $200 bucks on a router, and I can't even use the features that are standard on other routers? I have to create accounts on a 3rd party app, and pay extra every month? Ridiculous.

    Buy an Extended Warranty!!!

I bought this router in December of 2016 and a compatible modem for our internet provider so we could "cut the cord" from cable TV. Being that we were new to streaming I got a hold of a Geek Squad tech and explained to him what we were trying to accomplish. On his recommendation we purchased this router and an extended warranty. As he put it, "THE MERCHANDISE IN THIS AISLE BY FAR, ARE THE MOST RETURNED ITEMS IN THE STORE". If there's a problem, you just return it to Best Buy and exchange it for a new one. Otherwise it's not a very friendly experience trying to return it to NetGear (as confirmed by other reviews). It doesn't quite have the range that our old Uverse router/modem had, but has worked well for our 1300 sg ft ranch, until lately. Over the last few months we have been dropping our internet connection at random. It started out a couple of times a week and now it's every few hours. I thought it was the modem, but after contacting xfinity and running their tests on the modem, it looks like it's the router. I'm exchanging the router today. Hopefully the problem will be solved...

I had purchased the previous version Nighthawk, but after a year and a half it died. I tried to call customer service and they will NOT speak to you about your product after that year is up. I was flatly told to go to message boards and figure it out. As upset as I was, I also have the Netgear extender already set up and use Netgear WiFi adapters. So I reluctantly purchased this item even though Netgear made me pretty angry. If I hadn't already had the other items I'd have probably purchased ANY other brand just on principle. I just felt like I didn't want to mix brands and end up with compatibility issues or more complex problems with customer service, since everyone likes to blame other components you might own. Example: When dealing with tech support Netgear likes to blame it on your ISP modem, and when you call comcast, they like to blame it on your router. Add a few more companies in there and you're really never getting to the bottom of anything when problems arise. Bottom line, Netgear sucks, but I bought this product anyway. I guess they win, but I'm not saying anything nice about them.

I purchased this router this morning to replace a new Asus RT-AC3100 that was misbehaving right out of the box and I got it to replace a failing netgear r7500. This unit automatically configured itself to my Comcast settings before I could get into the GUI to do anything. Once inside it was the same familiar setup that I've been using with my previous Netgear routers. I was able to assign static IP's to my security camera's and their DVR quite easily. Throughput has been as expected and I expect to receive good service from this unit. My only concern is the lack of active cooling on it even though the unit has lots of ventilation. I did place a laptop cooling pad underneath it and power it from one of the usb ports to keep active cooling on it which is working very well. I also wish that it had more than 4 gigabit lan ports but I won't subtract a star for that.

I have no complaints with this router even with a few of the reviews I read prior to purchasing this router mentioned that certain plastic pieces seemed like they would break with the slightest movement. I have a number of products such as gaming consoles, smart TV's (one smart TV is older an doesn't have wireless integrated so it's hard-lined to the router which is all in my room and I can tell the difference between it being hard-lined to my ISP's router to this router), smart thermostat, lights, locks and door bell not forget tablets, laptops, PC's and mobile devices in my house. I haven't had a problem with any of my products that are all on the same network, speed is through my ISP which isn't bad and the Tri-Band keeps each product in a designated lane so I never have issues with a decrease in speed. The NETGEAR genie app is fantastic, as I can control settings & guest access, share & transfer media, and get analytics. My house isn't large so the range is great for the sq ft in my setting. A purchase I don't have buyer's remorse and like others stated it looks awesome!!!

The wifi signal is strong and has relieved problems with major connected components (TVs and security cameras). On the flip side, my Android phone loses wifi connectivity several times daily, which is frustrating. Netgear tech suggested changes to channels, but it hasn't resolved the problem. When my phone says "WiFi not available on Netgear xxx" but the TV and cams are strongly connected, I know it's an issue with the router-phone connection. My phone settings are correct for maximum wifi connectivity. I rarely had to reboot my old R7800 router, but reboot the R8000 every week to maintain good connectivity. Fortunately, I only paid about $25 to upgrade to the R8000 as my failing R7800 was covered by a Geek Squad extended warranty. As long as TVs don't freeze in the middle of my favorite shows, I'm overall happy with this unit.

    Best router we ever had

When we finally got a decent internet company, we needed our own router. We had an older Netgear Dual Band Wi Fi router we used and the tech set it up. While the service was a big improvement, I thought we could do better with a newer router. After checking with son, who suggested ASUS, and looking on the internet, which gave the Nighthawk the highest rating, we went to check them both out. Thee salesperson suggested the Nighthawk X6 AC3200 model after listening to our needs. Since we always preferred Netgear equipment, we went with it. Setup was a breeze. In less than 30 minutes, the Genie was loaded on all computers, tablets, and phones, and everything was up and running. The router even found all the Dish hoppers and my husband’s WD drive where he stores movies. More research and a MyCloud drive was attached, as well as the furnace and watering system. We have yet to experience any problems or connectivity issues. The next test was the workshop200 feet from the house, and again, the router passed with flying colors without an extender. Prior to that, we could barely get coverage on the back porch. I highly recommend this router – it’s everything it says it is.

I wish I could give this router zero stars! It is complete garbage. Not only did my 4 year old router outperform this router, it did so with ease. My wireless speeds are half of what I’m paying for. You can literally have whatever connected electronic you want near the router and still makes no difference. It claimed “no internet connection” not once, but twice today within a matter of 15 mins apart. When you pay this kind of money for a router, it better perform the way it should; it unfortunately does not. And for a router that claims it’s optimized for multiple streaming devices and gaming, I don’t think a game with a ping over 100ms on multiple servers qualifies as “optimized” Save your money and don’t buy this router. This is also paired with a new modem and that is not the issue. I’ll be returning this as soon as I have time to do so. What a waste of money!

Our son bought this wireless router to resolve issues we had with our Belkin AC1200 DB router constantly wigging out and dropping signal. (Believe me, he was wigging out just as much himself every time he was dumped from a game or lost signal while watching something on Netflix). This Netgear Nighthawk router is the bomb! We haven't had one problem with it since we've had it (over a month or two now). Great signal strength. Solid construction. Doesn't overheat easily. This bad boy works seamlessly with our Motorolla Arris Surfboard SB6183. It has been 100% reliable in my home business use, which requires a dependable Internet connection. The only drawback, which is purely subjective, is its giant nanobot appearance (total oxymoron, I know). So, basically, if you're cool with displaying your inner-nerdness, rock your awesomeness and put this on your friggin' coffee table! Otherwise, a cozy little corner out of sight will do just fine w/o loss of signal.

I’ve been using the router for more than a month now , it is excellent and I should have bought it sooner. I have a very complicated home network setup with cameras, home sensors, VOIP, and 18 - 20 devices using all sorts of streaming. Tips: There is an option to setup multiple 2.4G and 5G wireless networks or a shared SSID where the router can choose the device need. I went ahead and disabled this feature and forced everything on the 5G network and disabled the guest and 2.4G. It saved me some headaches with the router putting some devices on the slower network. There is a Quality of Service feature (QoS). It works fantastic and the best GUI for using it. In the device list you can click on the device and assign high or low priority so streaming services or low priority traffic doesn’t mess up your VOIP or must have packet traffic.

I bought the Nighthawk x6 R8000 last month. The installation was very simple and easy. The setup was easy to. You can type routerlogin.net to start the setup Nothing to it. Per safety recommendations to prevent hacking, I changed the R8000 log in password. (The default is admin/password; changing the password is optional but highly recommended.) I have an older notebook that will connect at 300 MBPS, and I have a Netgear USB adapter 6200 that will connect about 950 MBPS. I have not seen this speed in any other router. I think I should be able to go even faster than that since this unit transmits on three bands, but I did not the time to tweak it yet. The R8000 has plenty of power and range. It covers my big house, backyard, and driveway with no problem at all. Also the tech support people are pleasant and very helpful and they don’t rush you. One thing I did not figure out yet is how to find the connection speed of the attached devices. I recommend the R8000.

I purchased this router for my home in hopes that it would be well built and future proof. My main concern was longevity as two previous Linksys and one Netgear routers all failed within a year. I am hoping that in the case of this router that the price is an indication of its quality as it is expensive, at more than double the price of my previous routers it better last. It was very easy to install and set up. Range and speed are no different than my previous routers, however with the beam forming and three wifi networks I won't have an issue with all the devices in my home interfering with one another or bogging down the speed. I am in the process of making our home "smart" and this router has all the right wifi features to help manage everything. I do wish it had a built in "Smart Hub" like the Wink or Samsung HUBs so that I could eliminate extra equipment. I love the remote access and geanie app. I am able to manage the second Nighthawk X6 I installed at my inlaws house in Florida. So far so good, just hope it lasts.

One star only because I can't do worse. After one month, only one of three bands worked. Got on the phone with Netgear and spent the next four hours going through their "protocols" so they could make sure this was a defective unit. The protocols are as idiotic as anything you can imagine. Changing all manners of settings, unplugging, resetting, reinstalling firmware. On and on and on. Nothing worked. And then to add insult to injury, when they agreed to exchange it, the choice was either send mine back and have no connections until they got around to shipping me a replacement or to pay them a fee to ship one to me before I sent mine in. My entire life, I stayed away from NETGEAR because it really is the Yugo of electronics. I can't believe I let someone talk me into buying this expensive paperweight.

This morning I exchanged my crappy NEW Linksys AC3200 router for this Netgear. I had replaced my failiing Asus router about a month ago and went with the Linksys AC3200 because it was on sale even though I wanted to get this Netgear x6. Man I was wrong. That router brought nothing but headaches and my home is a smart home so if a router can't do it job correctly then of course everything in my house doesn't work correctly either! This morning I boxed up that crap router (luckily i'm a BestBuy Elite member) so I have 45 days to exchange items and this morning I picked up this Netgear router! Set-up is super easy and fast and once I got everything in my house reconnected all my devices respond super fast and the connections are solid. I love this router and I am glad that even though the last time I owned a Netgear router (5 years ago) that their products are still fast and reliable. This router is DEFINITELY the way to GO! GO NetGear!!
