Stronger range than my older Gigabit Dlink

Purchased as a good D-link Gigabit unit bit the dust. I was not necessarily looking to change brand but price/performance was a factor. The installation via the App was smooth, unlike some comments I had read. I was up and running in less than 10 minutes. The range has expanded enough that I can now connect with a desktop that was behind 2 walls and out of range before. I thought I would need an extender of a new Ethernet line but this unit saved me that hassle, The 3 bands is a convenience in that I run my Roku next to it on a 5G an my far away rooms on the 2.4 GHz, which is in practical terms not behaving any slower than 5G. Overall happy with the purchase.

I changed from one cable company to another and used this opportunity to upgrade our internet needs and I started by deciding to get a better modem/router. Knowing nothing about it I relied on the Best Buy techs to help. They listened to what I wanted to accomplish with the internet and Wi-FI in our house and then made recommendations. This product was one of those recommendations. It is more than I wanted to spend but a customer listening close by said: "buy the best and cry once or buy less and cry every day". This resonated with me. I've not regretted the decision. I'm really glad I bought this product. In addition, it came with a 30-day trial of Circle by Disney which I love. I can control the Wi-Fi with an app on my phone. Really love that! I would recommend this router and definitely recommend Best Buy.

This worked great right out of the box-I gave it 5 stars however to use the extra 2 fastest "channels" of this router, you will have to look it up on the net, as the instructions are not that good You will get the regular "channel" "netgear89" right out of the box (by the way they say the password at unboxing is "admin" for user and the password is "password" This is the password for the router but not wifi. Do not confuse that with the wifi password which it assigns automatically. "admin" and "password' will not get you set up on wi-fi. for your phone or other wifi devices. Follow the website noted in the instructions (Something like "routernetwork.org" or something like that and once there you will find your wifi passwords and names of for all 3 "channels.") Mr Burk

I've had this router for about a month. The signal works good for our application. We have a smaller home, about 1300 sq ft all one level, no basement, and the router is centrally located. At the furthest points of our home the signal is good on all of our devices. When I say good, I mean the wifi signal is ALMOST maxed out. We used to have ATT uverse and the signal was stronger, the signal maxed out everywhere. I not complaining, but I would have thought that a router this expensive would have equaled the ATT router. The router has never crashed nor have we had to reboot it (so far), but after reading the reviews about Net Gears return policy we purchased a Geek Squad warranty. One of the "Head Geeks" at Best Buy said that the routers are some of the most returned items in the store... I gave it 4 stars because as most everyone has mentioned, the antennas are flimsy

Extremely disappointed. Got it home, set it up and installed the Net Genie app so I could manage the router. App told me there was an update available. As soon as you run the update, it permanently crashes and disables the router beyond any repair. Had to go to the store and exchange it for a brand new one. This time I called tech support first, who then tells you never to use the app manager because it ruins the actual equipment. They say you should always call network support for any/all updates so they can do it from their end, but then you have to pay $140.00 per year. Also, it didn't fix my problem of internet freezing because I had too many wi-fi devices streaming at once. Total scam!

I purchased this router to replace a 4th Gen Time Capsule. I was hoping to get better range and throughput. My desktop PC has an AC card, and I did notice a faster connection. However, I've run into numerous issues connecting with devices on the 2.4GHz band and will be returning the router. I use RDP to connect from my desktop PC to my work laptop (both on my home network). This allows me to use the 3 monitors that I have connected to my desktop with the laptop without having to switch cables around. The Netgear router frequently disconnects the session. When connected, I get significantly more lag than I did with the Time Capsule. This occurs regardless of whether my PC is connected to the 5GHz or 2.4GHz bands. I've also experienced issues streaming music and videos to my Apple TV which I didn't experience before.

Great reviews for this wireless router, but unfortunately it worked perfectly only for 1 week. Second week, it started to drop internet access for all the 2.4GHz items such as Amazon Echos, Dots, Wemo devices. Resetting to factory settings, even changing the to different DHCP from default 192.168.x.x to 10.0.x.x did not help. Internet access still dropped. Rebooting the device helped for a few hours then all the devices would loose access again. Firmware update was useless. 5GHz worked fine though. Go figure. After all the frustration, i just returned it and put my trusty old Apple Extreme back to good use. I’ll wait for the next round of WiFi-6 “ax” variants, which should be available in about 1-2 years.

I picked this router up in an attempt to solve the overheating issues my high end linksys router was experiencing since the day I picked it up. After the intial setup, I was impressed with the speeds and decided to play Titanfall and test it. Strangely, the router wouldn't connect to the servers properly and I kept getting dumped off of them. Later on, I noticed I was receiving terrible download speeds throughout my house. I tested and learned that it wasn't my ISP, but the router. The wireless strength also continued to drop horribly. Before this, I had tried the Netgear nighthawk ac 1900 R7000. It had the same servers problems with Titanfall, but it held a constant download speed and strong connection. Finally, I returned this and purchased the Asus AC2400 router and have been extremely satisfied since then.

I am genuinely impressed. We had an 802.11n access point, but the signal was pretty weak in the far bedroom of the house, to the point that the wifi would drop from my son's phone in his room. Elsewhere in the house, we were getting ~20Mbps downloads over WiFi from a 100Mbps internet connection. Connecting to the 5GHz AC network of this thing, we get 100Mbps everywhere except the far bedroom, and that gets 50-60Mbps. So, overall a HUGE improvement. The connection is just as fast as our hard-wired PCs. Installation was simple. It was up and running in 10 minutes. The only tricky part was using this just as an access point; I just had to connect via Ethernet and disable the DHCP. If you are going to replace your router with this, it would be even easier and quicker. This was a pretty expensive router, but I think it's worth it and should last quite a while.

This is my 2nd time purchasing a Netgear router,,,, Never again. I guess I had forgotten how terrible the first go-around was. Router started out working fine. A few weeks later some oddity occurs... unexplainable... router begins to issue random IP address to every user item in the house...contacted Netgear customer support... very helpful at level 2... but my problem is level 5 and will have to be bumped up to a higher level of service... and at a cost for an annual service contract... so that the level 5 team can un-corrupt my brand new modem and build a firewall so that it doesnt happen again. I bought into that scam 5 years ago.... not this time..... router went back to Bestbuy.... and I will never purchase Netgear again. inferior product and scandalous customer support. Unhappy customer... don't waste your time or money on Netgear product.

The product did not come with a manual...I am not an tech person so I went to the Best Buy site and with a quick look I clicked on what I thought was a connection to someone that could help me...that part did work out...but then all of sudden they were in my computer and it cost me another $180.00...while there work was good and m computer did need some work...but I thought was misguided by Best Buy in their site...I see this scam a lot but did not expect it on a product like this...the only good news is that the company was actually good at what they did...but was surprised by how weird and how fast that happen...beyond that the product is working well.

I have att uverse and have had a horrible time recently with wifi dropouts on wifi devices. have 3 levels including basement which houses the att modem. Multiple att visits and still no fix. Finally one of the guys suggested Nighthawk ac1900. Bit the bullet and went for the top of the line X6. Setup is easy, Just plug ethernet cable and let the software do the rest. Set it up as wireless access point. Its looks are out of the world and so is performance. Placed it on main level and now Every corner of the house has connectivity and same speeds. Would highly recommend especially if you have att uverse since the routers they provide are terrible. Note: newer devices with ac including iMac and iPhone 6 perform better.

My last router was a D-Link DIR-826L. I needed an extender to reach my office and my wife complained that the printer constantly dropped from the network. After reading the reviews and the product description that claimed multiple diverse products that can operate simultaneously, I took a chance at spending the big money to buy the Nighthawk X6. It did set up relatively easily and with my extender, I get screaming speeds in my office through my comcast network, but my wife still complains about the printer dropping from the network (only on her MacBook Pro) and her Google drive dropping. I haven't had any issues with those, but the network is sluggish on occasion. My son, who is a community PlayStation enthusiast was not impressed with the network performance over our last router. For the money I paid, I expected a happy family with no more network complaints ... that didn't happen.

Holy Moly..... get this router. Goodbye Cisco e2400, it was nice knowing you. Note to those setting up for the first time: If you have range extenders, access points, wireless bridges, or other devices plugged in, unplug them before you start the wizard on this one. Otherwise, it my get confused and be a tiny bit frustrating. There's one thing a lot of people are forgetting to mention here: with the 1GHz processors (dual) this thing takes care of WPA fast FAST FAST. Yes, speedtests got faster (finally seeing a solid upload!) but the DIFFERENCE in speed is amazing when using the web / video, etc. Really solid effort - don't forget to upgrade the firmware - which is simple enough. I had a tad bit of trouble getting going - but it was because of an access point plugged in that was rediredcting the setup program. That's hardly Netgear's fault.

I had trouble with my wireless internet in my home. We dont have cable tv so myself and my three children watch everything online and we were constantly waiting for the internet to load our programs and/or games. I even increased my wireless internet to 50 mps to try and improve the speed. Then I purchased this router. I have never had an issue since. Everything is fast and without waiting. I even lowered my internet service back to 30 mps and it still works better than my old router/modem combo machine that I was using. I had a small issue receiving on the far corner of the house but after I moved the antennas on the router it now works there also. This router really works. Pushes out a wonderful signal and solved my issues. We routinely have seven or eight internet downloads running simultaneously without issue. Awesome machine.

Review of the Netgear R8000 x6. Own the R7000 series and was looking for an upgrade due to r7000 dropping wi-fi channels after around 3years, a reported issue with that model. R8000 setup was very easy. Router login and device isp setup simple as most Netgear interface. Range is very good. 2.4 and 5Ghz signal strong, secure and acceptable. No issues gaming, streaming and definitely made for multiple devices and streaming. Tested on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Smart TV streaming Wireless and Wired tested. Had 0 packet loss on both tests. Speed very acceptable. Recommend this Router. Only a 4 Star due to price.

The Nighthawk R8000 is an over priced WiFi router, at $300+ you can buy mulitple routers and bridge them together. However, if you want to save yourself from having to purchase mutliplte routers and connect everything yourself purchasing this router is an excellent choice. First of all, i have muitiple WiFi devices( from Apple products, smart tvs, WiFi cameras, and my garage door opener). This rourter has no problem connecting all my decives to the internet, ensuring i get maxium speed and efficiency. Nevertheless, this WiFi router comes with Netgear 24/7 customer service at no additional cost, if you ever run into any trouble the Netgear team is ready to help.

I have had netgear routers before and they were very good. We outgrew that router though and I’ve been leasing an off brand router from the telephone company. I have wanted a Nighthawk router for a while and when I saw it was on sale for Christmas I bought it. I couldn’t get it connected to the internet and had to call support. She was very helpful and was able to get it connected easily. But it is unreliable. We’ve used it for a couple weeks and we are not pleased with it. I’ve rebooted twice this morning already. I am so disappointed in this router. I’ve decided today that I’ve had enough and I’m going to return it. I’m giving it 2 stars because when it works, it is fast.

Because of the layout of my house, I was having problems getting signal to all areas. I asked a co-worker to accompany me to Best Buy to purchase a router that would solve my problem. This was not the unit we intended to purchase, but when my co-worker saw this, he described it as a "kick***" router. I knew then I had to have it. As I made my way to the checkout area, the associated commented, "I wish I had this unit" as he placed it in a clear plastic bag. As I was exiting the store, the security associated saw the unit and simply said "awesome". I knew I had made the right decision. Setup was quick and intuitive and the expanded coverage was as expected. The only issue I had was that one of my Smart TVs repeatedly dropped connection to Netflix. After a few Google searches on the symptoms, I determined that the solution was to set a lower maximum speed on the 2.4 GHZ band. Problem solved.

Purposely waited to review this item, until we had it awhile. We got this in November 2015 - The problem we had, was the "whole-home" wi-fi router in our main floor office wasn't strong enough to reach the basement (the MAN-CAVE)! It constantly kept going in & out - making the DIRECTV (with box) there nearly useless, not to mention using an iPhone! We even bought an extra "extender" first. Never could get the extender to work (probably my fault with installing it), so we went to Best Buy with our dilemma. 2 of the salespeople (1 was the Mgr/Spvr of the department) spent a considerable amount of time with us telling us advantages/disadvantages of each router which ranged from reasonably priced to EXTREMELY high. But they suggested this one (priced in the middle of the others). Have had NO problems since & I now have a HAPPY HUBBY!!!! Thanks, Best Buy!
